Walker, Scott

Tilt

Originally released in 1995, this was SCOTT WALKER's first release in over a decade. It must be stressed that even those who were familiar with Walker's career were shocked by 'Tilt.' The bleak, gothic theatre that Walker's oblique lyrics and operatic vocals convey is bolstered every step of the way by dark string arrangements, reverbed guitars, the whirring of synthesizers and the rattle of percussion. It furthers by an astonishing margin the already singular breadth of his long career, finding him at still another and different peak of his ability as a vocalist and lyricist... and God what a barren and unfamiliar summit it is! The 30 yr career of Walker, his ever growing cult status, and continual reissue of his early work is promotion in itself for this album, not to mention he's been an influence on greats like David Bowie, Pulp/Jarvis Cocker, Marc Almond, Nick Cave amongst others. The term "inimitable" can truly be used in all sincerity here.
