'Cri D'Amour' by French singer Melanie was produced in a seaside setting, which may explain its flowing, organic character. This collection of self-composed, string-drenched songs recalls Jean-Claude Vannier's work for Serge Gainsbourg. Yet, polyrhythms influenced from Afro-beat legend Tony Allen, and the touches of guitar, piano, percussion and synthesizers, end up giving the whole album a resolutely atemporal color.
