Loviatar from Canada releases its self-titled debut-album. Thunderous elements of doom and post-metal contrast (or conflict) with hypnotic moments of atmospheric introspection. The band's sound reminds of the hazy gloom of My Bloody Valentine, the cinematic pysch landscapes of Wovenhand, and the crushing riffs of Isis. But the unique vocals, equal parts sombre and soaring, set Loviatar apart from others in the genre.
