Eleven-piece Canadian big-band jazz-rock powerhouse Illustration toured the US in 1969, supporting Ike & Tina Turner, Miles Davis and Funkadelic, with soulful lead singer Billy Ledster backed by a six-man horn section. This self-titled debut, released by Janus in 1970, captures the group in all their multifaceted glory: 'Upon The Earth' and 'I Don't Want To Cry' are soulful stompers reminiscent of Blood, Sweat and Tears and the better efforts of Chicago; 'Home' is a sentimental lament with gospel overtones and 'Thelicia' an emotive stunner.
