ANNEXUS QUAM - BEZIEHUNGEN
Re-release, originally released in 1972. Remastered from the original mastertapes. The seven-piece band formed in 1967 as a beat group called Ambition Of Music. In 1970, working with a local trombone choir led to a dramatic change of direction. Trombone, clarinet, saxophone, scat-like vocals, various percussion, even a bicycle pump or a guitar played below the bridge found their way into the band. Annexus Quam mixed two musical genres: rock and free jazz, but the group played both differently from what could be heard otherwise at that time. Elements of psychedelic rock with heavy organ sounds were combined with freely dabbed brass notes; at the same time the band was closer to Stockhausen's concept of "Intuitive Music" than to the expressive group improvisations of free jazz musicians.

ASGARD - FOR ASGARD
Previously unreleased heavy acid-rock/proto-prog album from 1972! Asgard (initially known as Osgoode, named after the street where Blue Cheer had their headquarter) was a San Francisco band featuring ace guitar player Bob Hardy (a veteran of many Bay Area bands since the early '60s) and Jake 'Gelon' Lau (Gideon & Power, Mary McCreary, Tribe...) on electric violin and vocals. This is their lost album, registered at Roy Chen Recorders in 1972, now released for the first time. 'For Asgard' features nine original tracks, perfectly recorded and played, dominated by Bob Hardy's outstanding fuzzy lead guitar and the cool touch of Gelon's Lau electrified violin that recalls UK prog-psych bands like the similar named Asgærd or High Tide at times. Hard to believe that such a pro-recorded, top quality album like this was never released at the time. After playing a celebrated free concert at the Provo Park in Berkeley alongside bands like Mother Cat and Summerhill, the band slowly disintegrated. The download card includes one studio track from the same album sessions plus three raw rehearsal tracks. Sourced from the original masters. Includes
insert with liner notes and photos plus a download card including four bonus tracks.

BLIND WILLIE - BLIND WILLIE
Previously unreleased '72/74 recordings by this US hard rock band! Blind Willie formed in Spokane (Washington) in 1972 and featured terrific guitar player Frank Trowbridge from hard-psych legends Sleepy John. They carved out a unique niche in the Northern Idaho/Eastern Washington rock scene in the early to mid-'70s, performing original music in a time when doing so wasn't widespread for regional bands. Within weeks of the group's formation, they commanded stages with a potent smattering of hard-rock, country-rock and psych. The band's history includes a brief courtship with the Doobie Brothers' Dave Shogren on bass, as well as major label interest from Columbia and Epic Records. Here's the first ever release of their amazing studio demos from 1972/74. Blind Willie's original lineup of Craig Karp (guitar, vocals), Frank Trowbridge (guitar), Charlie Bieker (bass, guitar, vocals) and Jim Griffith (drums) is represented via slices of incendiary rock'n'roll pomp recorded on a 4-track tape machine in a friend's apartment in 1972. Live in the studio tracks from 1974 feature later drummer Mike Garland and bassist Joe Johnson for a fiery radio set at the legendary Kaye-Smith Studios in Seattle. The album's selected tracks navigate Blind Willie's wide-ranging sonic explorations, anchored by formidable guitar-forward rockers that stand the test of time, and hold up to any of the more well-known work of their peers from the '70s. Writhing in the rock'n'roll milieu, Blind Willie's musical tributaries run deep, steeped in a spectrum of styles that range from hard blues-rock scorchers like the incendiary 'Georgia,' to heartfelt ballads ('I'm Wondering If') and into the upper echelons of sci-fi psych ('Zolly'), a comet ride through wah-wah geetar spacedust, replete with Rocky Horror cinematic sheen. It's also easy to imagine songs like the choogle-heavy 'Somebody Help Me' illuminating the vibe of parties, bars and theaters all over North America. Comes in hard cardboard sleeve with obi. Sourced from the original masters. Includes insert with detailed liner notes and rare photos plus a download card with a plethora of bonus tracks.

COLOURED BALLS - HEAVY METAL KID (BLACK)
'Heavy Metal Kid' was the last album Coloured Balls recorded during their all too brief three-year existence. It's often overlooked due to the enormous impact and success their preceding album 'Ball Power' had on Australian music. 'Heavy Metal Kid' was a natural progression for the band that could not be pigeonholed. They were still bringing their unique mix of proto punk, hard rock, blues, space rock, progressive and '50s rock'n'roll, but they expanded their sonic palette to include even a piano ballad and spaced-out ARP synthesizers. Each copy comes with both a poster and lyric insert.

DREAMWEAPON - ARS MORIENDI
Little Cloud Records, Infinite Spin Records, and Up In Her Room have joined forces to bring you 'Ars Moriendi,' the 2023 album by Dreamweapon. 'Ars Moriendi' is regarded as the end of an anachronic circle, initiated in 2016 with 'Rites Of Lunacy,' 2018 with 'SOL' and now concluded. Recorded between the end of the pandemic lockdown and the beginning of the Ukranian invasion, this record may be the darkest Dreamweapon production so far. 'Ars Moriendi,' as referred in the late Middle Ages Latin texts, offers protocol and procedures to a good death. It is a messenger of hope, as you take control of the past, by acknowledging it and accept it, you take control of the future.
Available on super limited transparent red vinyl.

FINE, PETE - ON A DAY OF CRYSTALLINE THOUGHT
Beyond rare private press album from 1974, a fantastic mix of progressive rock with acid-folk, spaced-out psychedelia and cool conceptual/soundtrack vibe. Pete Fine is a virtuoso acoustic and electric guitarist and also a self-taught composer and orchestrator. After playing with psychedelic hard-rock trio FLOW in the early '70s in New York, Pete, influenced by classical composers like Anton Bruckner, started to focus on his 12-string guitar, composing music in a symphonic style.
'On A Day Of Crystalline Thought' was his first solo album, self-released in 1974 as a private, home-made edition of 100 copies, now impossible to find. It was recorded using classical/rock musicians plus a chamber Orchestra from Harlem. It features 12-string guitars, electric guitars, timpani, string sections, French horns, flute, piano, organ, drums with early digital delays, female vocal harmonies. Comes with remastered sound, an insert with liner notes and photos plus a
download card.

HEAVY RAIN - HEAVY RAIN
Formed in Blackpool in the late '60s, Heavy Rain was a "heavy progressive blues" band who shared stage with big names like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies or Caravan. In 1973, now reduced to a power-trio (Geoff Carter on lead guitar/vocals, Oggy Hargreaves on bass and Bernie Worsley on drums), they went to London and registered an album which was never released at the time but a few metal acetates were made. Only one copy is actually known of this monster rarity. Music is 100% underground psychedelic hard-rock with heavy distorted fuzz-wah guitars and delay/echo effects. Seven original songs plus a spaced out Pink Floyd cover. Comes with remastered sound, an insert with liner notes and photos plus a download card including three unreleased studio tracks from 1972. RIYL: Iron Claw, Wicked Lady, UFO, Pink Fairies, Hawkwind, Pentagram, Sabbath...

HIGH RISE - DISPERSION (2LP)
From the moment they emerged in the early days of the '80s Tokyo underground, High Rise set themselves apart as radical
outliers, shattering the limits of rock and psychedelic music with a ferocity unmatched even in that heady era. The group's core duo of Asahito Nanjo on bass/vocals and Munehiro Narita on guitar had an explosive chemistry; they mutated, distorted,
amplified the raw velocity, heaviness, and electricity of late '60s/early '70s rock into an entirely new, monstrous form. Running in similar circles, their approach paralleled that of Les Rallizes Dénudés, but with a more garage/proto-punk attack and the blistering intensity of a full-on amphetamine rush. While Mizutani's guitar is what took Rallizes's to another level, the same can be said for Narita's guitar work in High Rise - rightfully placing him in the pantheon of psychedelic guitarists and for some to call him "the undisputed king of the motorcycle fuzz guitar." The band inspired the launch of the legendary P.S.F. label, giving it its first two releases which along with its third release, the debut of Keiji Haino's Fushitsusha, signaled a new era in the world of Japanese underground music. High Rise's second album, 1986's 'II,' was a triumph and fully lived up to the group's original 'Psychedelic Speed Freaks' moniker, instantly raising the stakes for any band to follow. It carved out a new stream of rock music, rooted in an encyclopedic knowledge of the music's history and an almost metaphysical understanding of its raw elements and spirit. High Rise's third album, 1992's 'Dispersion,' kept the group's in-the-red intensity while pushing into new directions. Less grounded in speed, Nanjo along with drummer Dr. Euro build powerful, dynamic riffs that swing with crushing levels of
heaviness. Slower pieces rife with blues infused tension appear alongside dissonant no wave inflected passages and rumbling
biker rave-ups. All of which provide Narita with the room to create one of rock guitar's most compelling high wire spectacles. Throughout the album he creates dizzying torrents of notes with a precision, control and endless inventiveness that crackles with chaotic energy. As P.S.F.'s own description proclaimed at the time "Munehiro Narita's guitar explodes!" this is "Killer-Fuzz-Wah-Wah psychedelic heaven!"

JAWBONE - JAWBONE
Psychedelic pop act Jawbone had ample talent and keen industry connections yet remained unjustly obscure. Core members had been active in The Mirage, who signed with CBS and later recorded for Philips; drummer David Hynes and bassist/future Elton John Band mainstay Dee Murray briefly joined the Spencer Davis Group, but regrouped as Portobello Explosion, which became Jawbone. Their rare self-titled debut, released by Carnaby in 1970, had an undercurrent of Americana, and there's a one-off cover of The Beatles' 'Across The Universe;' this edition features bonus track 'Way, Way Down,' a non-LP Carnaby 45.

KUUSUMUN PROFEETTA - KUKIN KAAPPIAAN SELASSAAN KANTAA (2LP)
Reissue of 2001 album. At the turn of the millennium, the first Kuusumun Profeetta album got an ecstatic response, and many now consider it a timeless psychedelic folk classic. The long awaited reissue is finally at hand. The Pori, Finland-based group of adventurers Moon Fog Prophet, born in 1994, arrived at a crossroads. The band had just wrapped up their fourth album 'Taunting Tin Bells Through The Mammal Void' that was in its narrative character, exaggerative scope and dynamic richness a work of art taken to extreme proportions. What next? The answer was found from the more minimalistic end of the spectrum. The singer-keyboardist Mika Rättö began to take more responsibility for the lyrics of the band. This resulted in a bunch of Finnish language texts, dealing with the sense of alienation among other topics, in a distinctively poetic but touching and identifiable manner. The guitarist Teemu Majaluoma, the bass player Mikko Elo and the drummer Veli Nuorsaari caught the plot immediately. The group created songs that were much smaller in scale than before and combined hues of folk, jazz and other flavours into a unique blend. The new soundscape of the band was on the one hand intimate and fragile, on the other hand imaginative and rich. Moon Fog Prophet had exuviated so thoroughly that they decided to release the album 'Kukin Kaappiaan Selässään Kantaa' under the name Kuusumun Profeetta (i.e. Moon Fog Prophet in Finnish) - which was of course a natural decision, as the language of the lyrics had changed. The record got an overwhelmingly ecstatic response especially in the Finnish alternative music circuit, and many now consider the first album under Kuusumun Profeetta name a timeless classic. The texts and the name in Finnish language did not remain a one album digression, but Kuusumun Profeetta carried on with their mother tongue through six albums and numerous live performances, constantly exploring new musical pathways.

LED ZEPPELIN - ONE NIGHT STAND: THE LONDON BROADCAST 1969
Led Zeppelin had many appearances on the BBC during their first year of existence. This one has always stood out from the others because it is the only one to be taped in front of a live audience. They sound very raw and it captures the excitement of their early live show. Up until June they were finding ways of expanding their sets to ninety minutes to two hours long, but the summer was filled with appearances at festivals beginning the following day at the Bath Festival on June 28th. This gives a glimpse into their stripped down, hour long festival set.

NICO - THE MARBLE INDEX
Nico immediately embarked on a solo recording career after splitting with the Velvet Underground and had an unfulfilling experience making her first album. For 'The Marble Index,' she seized control of the recording process, determined that her vision be more fully realized on her second LP. Writing all of the songs and enlisting John Cale's playing and production assistance, Nico created a dark, stripped-down atmosphere that was a million miles from Top 40. Centered around her signature harmonium playing, the songs have a stark, Gothic quality that profoundly affected listeners. Originally released in 1969.

REZN & VINNUM SABBATHI - SILENT FUTURE
On 'Silent Future', Chicago atmospheric psych-doom outfit Rezn teams up with Mexico City cosmic conceptualists Vinnum Sabbathi for a true union of heavy exploration. Allowing themselves a fluid, open canvas to experiment, members of both bands contribute equally to create an album of lush, hypnotic and frequently megalithic ambience, yielding an utterly cohesive trip into the riff-drenched astral reaches. The fluidity with which Rezn and Vinnum Sabbathi collaborate is unlikely, yet inarguable. ROCKY'S PRIDE & JOY - ALL THE COLOURS OF DARKNESS (BLACK)
Rocky's Pride & Joy began in a cursed railway cottage in the western suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia in mid 2020. Unexplained appearances of handprints, falling candles, disquieting sounds in the night, and vivid dreams of a tortured previous tenant haunted the residence for 12 months while the band wrote their first collection of songs including 'Crawl' and 'Time's Up.' With a friendship formed between vocalist/guitarist Brenton Wilson, drummer Jessi Tilbrook and bassist Dominic Ventra at Jessi's rock'n'roll club night, the trio's unbridled love for doom and fuzz led them to explore their collective vision and bring their first live performance to life at the end of 2020. Now in 2023, after a slew of live shows, the release of 'Time's Up' and 'Future Self' and months of writing and recording, the band have signed their debut album 'All The Colours Of Darkness' to international label Electric Valley Records, set for release in late 2023. Recorded at Adelaide's Twin Earth Studio, the band have continued their exploration of the dark side of life on this 8 track LP. Occult rituals, parasites, paranormal encounters and cold hard revenge are just a few themes covered on the album. Through nasty fuzz saturated riffs, heavy pounding drums and window rattling bass, Rocky's Pride & Joy are putting their stamp on doom. SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT - LONG DISTANCE TRIP (2LP/BLACK)
2023 edition of the first "cult"-album by Berlin's heavy psych monument Samsara Blues Experiment (SBE), originally from 2010. With a supernatural and organic flow they create an individual spirit, at first glance it does not appear as anything new, it's that rather old-fashioned kind of heavy psychedelic rock, BUT you'll be blasted by the full load of passion and the warm and epic atmosphere which fills every song, even it's 3 or 30 minutes, SBE lives what you hear and feel and they won't step back for one single note, until each one of their listeners will breath their groove and after the final 22-minute ride of 'Double Freedom,' will just gasp for MORE! A deeper listening will soon reveal the depths that linger within their mystic fusion of intense '70s feeling, spaced-out rock, extended blues guitar and oriental folklore. The debut, aptly titled as a 'Long Distance Trip' presents the band from its various shades, often long-terms jamming but well concepted and never losing their point. See this album as an invitation to let your thoughts flow and explore the depths of your inner self. Are you ready to take the trip, then crank it up all the way - SBE takes you back to those times, when music still was music!

STUDIO KOSMISCHE - BEYOND THE CIRCLE OF THE FIXED STARS
"Fans of the Kosmische sound rejoice as sonic pioneers Dom Keen and Jonathan Parkes return with another instalment of their essential record series. I found my way to Studio Kosmische via Parkes' Korb project. Whilst I am admittedly tardy to the party, I'm nonetheless smitten by the sounds your about to enjoy in the grooves of this here record. The album is split into two musical journeys across its two sides. 'The Rites Of Saturn' starts as a tribal dance before the song enters a black hole and the sounds of the cosmos permeate the speakers. We drift along for a spell enveloped in the calm of the never-ending expanse before emerging back where we started. The drums welcoming us back to the dance. I get lost in this track every time and it sends me running to the turntable to flip the record to continue the journey. Side B finds us 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' This is what I'd deem a groovy little number. The minimal bass trades licks with the guitar before a synth line kicks in. Check out the drums by the way. Gloriously busy but never intrusive. They absolutely steal the show for me. Another journey of a track, it transforms before your ears into this mellow, pastoral acoustic jam. It really does feel welcoming and almost like a homecoming. If you've been following Studio Kosmische then you'll know the quality these guys produce. If, like me, this is your first foray then my dear listener you're in for a treat. Drop the needle in the groove and let Messrs Keen & Parkes take you on a sonic voyage 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' ~Mark Anderson - Static Sounds Club.

MAHTI - MUSIIKKI 1
Mahti are a Finnish four-piece group presenting a unique mixture of ambient-rock, electronic music and traditional Finnish-Karelian music. Lengthy semi-improvisational pieces are built on top of complex, hypnotic grooves which are layered with opaque guitars and strangely soothing noise elements. In the heart of it all there's kantele, an ancient Finnish string instrument played by Hannu Saha, who has studied Finnish folk music in theory and practice for nearly five decades. The other players are Jussi Lehtisalo and Tomi Leppänen, who also form the rhythmic core of avant-rock group Circle, and psychiatrist Teemu Elo. Strange dreams guaranteed!

Ultimately, the endeavor is never limited to being one thing for long, any more than it is limited to being the work of a single band.

BRA SELLO - BUTTERFLY
With one foot planted in jazz and the other in the township groove of Mbaqanga, saxophonist Sello Mmutung was a powerful crossover figure in the history of popular music in South Africa. Using the stage name Bra Sello, meaning "brother" and used as a term of affection and respect in the jazz community, he came up in the era of shellac 78s as an exponent of the 1960s sax jive sound that brought the swinging rhythm of kwela into the domain of South African jazz. Despite the injection of American rhythm and blues into South African pop in the late-1960s, Bra Sello's first releases on vinyl on the CBS label saw him backed by the group Abafana Bentuthuko and holding down an unapologetic township sound. Joining the independent Soweto label under producer Cambridge Matiwane in the mid-1970s, Bra Sello recorded two records in the hit-making bump jive style popularised by serious jazz musician Dollar Brand on the one hand and prolific studio group the Movers, operating in funk and soul territory, on the other. Blending modern American and traditional African elements into joyful hip-swinging rhythms, 'Butterfly' (1975) and The Battle Of Disco (1977) reflect the vivacity of urban life in South Africa and document an era when dance music was performed by bands as extended jams laced with jaw-dropping solos. With music trends shifting dramatically in the late-1970s, the title of 'The Battle Of Disco' was an ironic call to arms in response to the territory that group musicians were beginning to cede to synthesisers and DJs. For enthusiasts of African music from the 1970s, a full appreciation of the continent's output is incomplete without South Africa's pop-jazz sound providing a regional counterpoint to the funk experimentation of West Africa. Reissued for the very first time, Bra Sello returns in 2023 with limited replica editions from Afrodelic using master tape sources from the As-Shams/The Sun collection. Afrodelic's unique edition of 'Butterfly' features a previously unreleased track on side B.

LOPEZ RUIZ, JORGE - UN HOMBRE DE BUENOS AIRES
Here's one for your long, breezy summer afternoons by the sea. Jazz, funk, tango and bossa vibes kiss each other, all wrapped up in JLR's trademark cinematic feel. In his colourful 'Un Hombre De Buenos Aires,' recorded in 1978, JLR puts the political outcry of his early '70s works aside and focuses on his love for the city of Buenos Aires. As always, Jorge López Ruiz enroled for the recording of 'Un Hombre De Buenos Aires' some of the best musicians in the country. The line-up includes Dino Saluzzi on bandoneon, Domingo Cura on percussion and his lifelong friend Pocho Lapouble on drums. Jorge López Ruiz gets far less credit than he deserves. His crucial role in shaping Argentina's jazz history should place him right next to Gato Barbieri and Lalo Schifrin, giants who found success abroad. It's an honour do dig deeper into his vast discography after having already reissued his masterpiece 'Viejas Raíces' and his historical milestone album 'Bronca Buenos Aires.'

SANDERS, PHAROAH - PHAROAH (2LP)
This record's origin story is as elusive as Pharoah was about everything Pharoah. It was born out of a misunderstanding between him and the India Navigation producer Bob Cummins, and was recorded at a crossroads in his career with a group of musicians so unlikely that they were never all in the same room again. There was a guitarist who was also a spiritual guru, an organist who would go on to co-write and produce 'The Message,' and a classically trained pianist - his wife at the time, Bedria Sanders - who played the harmonium despite never having seen one. At times ambient and serene, at others funky and modal, 'Pharoah' radically departed from his earlier work. It would become one of the artist's most beloved records and one of the great works of the 20th century. With Pharoah Sanders' blessing, the limited edition embossed version of this 2LP box set presents the definitive, remastered version of'Pharoah,' his seminal record from 1977, along with two previously unreleased live performances of his masterpiece 'Harvest Time.' This is the first official rerelease of 'Pharoah,' which has been bootlegged often since its original release in 1977. These exceptional live versions of 'Harvest Time' - which Pharoah performed during an intense European tour in the summer of '77 and which are included here for the first time - turn the original, beloved composition on its head. 'Pharoah' will be released a year after the legendary tenor saxophonists' untimely passing, and two years after the release of what was to become his final album, the widely acclaimed 'Promises,' a collaboration between the composer Floating Points and Pharoah Sanders, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. The first pressing of this limited edition box set comes with an embossed cover and is accompanied by never-before-shared photographs and ephemera, as well as a 24-page booklet featuring rarely seen photographs, interviews with many of the participants, and a conversation with Pharoah himself.

SWAMI LATEPLATE - DOOM JAZZ II (NEON)
'Doom Jazz II: Deception' continues the epic story of the 'Doom Jazz' saga, with Jamie Saft and Bobby Previte trading the slow, sensual lines of 'Doom Jazz I' for a more active, muscular sound. Side One, 'The New Friend' and 'Everyone Is Aware' uses a vintage Yamaha organ to create an atmosphere of mystery and space. Side Two, 'Deception' moves into different territory, Saft's distorted Hammond Organ sailing over Previte's active, commanding tom toms in a blues based jam of wild ferocity and intense foreboding. The plot thickens.

YONEKAWA, TOSHIKO/KIYOSHI YAMAYA -& CONTEMPORARY S - TAPESTRY: KOTO & THE OCCIDENT SEA
Now reissued on vinyl, the stunning LP 'Tapestry: Koto & The Occident Sea' is part of a three-album series produced by Nippon Columbia in the mid-1970s, dedicated to the koto, one of the main instruments of Japanese traditional music. The beauty of the trilogy, curated by composer Kiyoshi Yamaya, lies in the fact that they are a modern translation of tradition using newer and more avant-garde sound idioms, integrating the koto with jazz musicians. The result is an original 'crossover' that allows for the awakening and the consequential spread of traditional music in larger contexts.
