The Floyd taking a trip to Mars in Amsterdam. Here's the so called 'The Man And The Journey' a suite of music performed in concert during their 1969 tour. It consisted of several of their early songs, some unreleased, and material later included on 'More' and 'Ummagumma.' The concerts featured visual performance elements such as the sawing and construction of a table, and consumption of afternoon tea onstage. The themes of insanity and everyday life are similar to what would later be explored in the album 'The Dark Side Of The Moon.' The concept was first performed 14 April 1969 at the Royal Festival Hall in a show billed as 'The Massed Gadgets Of Auximenes - More Furious Madness From Pink Floyd.' The 17 September performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is the most widely known. Plans for an official live album release of 'The Man And The Journey' were considered, but abandoned in favour of 'Ummagumma.'

VARIOUS - BROWN ACID: THE 17TH TRIP (BLACK)
Lucky number 17? You better believe it. We here at 'Brown Acid' have been scouring the highways and byways of America for even more hidden stashes of psych/garage/proto-punk madness from the so-called Aquarian Age. There's no flower power here, though-just acid casualties, rock stompers and major freakouts. As always, the songs have been officially licensed, and all the artists get paid. Kicking off this trip, Grapple's 'Ethereal Genesis' is a heavy psych gem from 1969 written by J. Bruce Svoboda, a.k.a. Jay Bruce, formerly of The Hangmen and The Five Canadians (who were actually the same San Antonio band). The latter's 1966 garage favorite 'Writing On The Wall' has been endlessly covered, but Grapple were never heard from again. With a guitar riff that blatantly rips off Sabbath's 'Black Sabbath,' Image's mostly instrumental lysergic obscurity 'Witchcraft '71' (originally unveiled that very year) also boasts a horror-movie organ intro, a voodoo drum break and some championship chanting. Private press heads might recall late Image drummer John Beke from his '80s reemergence with country rockers Crossfyre. Stone Hedge were a seven-piece rock band out of Michigan with a penchant for Creedence and anthropomorphism. 'Smokey Bear' is their 1972 tribute to the official mascot of the U.S. Forest Services -not to mention the A side of their sole single- and it recalls the kind of organ-drenched swamp jam that soundtracked many a Burt Reynolds flick back in the day. If you think being a Southern rock band from Milwaukee doesn't make much sense, that's probably why Crossfire changed their sound along with their name -to Bad Boy- after signing with United Artists. Bad Boy's severely underappreciated second album, 'Back To Back,' is a 1978 hard rock jewel, but you can hear their boogie-woogie roots on this rare 1975 single. With a band name like Primevil and song title like 'Too Dead To Live,' you probably expect some gnarly proto-metal riffage. Instead, you a get a harmonica-drenched, soul-infused rock rave-up from 1972. Primevil would release their sole LP two years later: Entitled 'Smokin' Bats At Campton's,' it's a reference to their trusty singer, harp player (and bat smoker?), Dave Campton.
'Brown Acid' regulars already know Pegasus from their appearance with 'The Sorcerer' on our Seventh Trip. 'Ready To Rave' is the flipside to that 1972 single, in which they explain how they like their whiskey cold and their women hot. It's another killer glimpse of what might have been if these one-and-done Baltimore hard rockers had been able to keep it together. One of two obscure singles released by Texas musician Bobby Mabe in 1969 (the other appears under the name The Outcasts), 'I'm Lonely' delivers a heavy dose of vocal soul to the otherwise psych-garage presentation. Fans of fellow Houstonians the Moving Sidewalks -whom Bobby and his Outcasts may well have gigged with- will especially dig this one. Cedar Rapids, Iowa, may not be known as a cultural mecca, but they did give us Truth & Janey. This deadly hard rock trio delivered their holy grail full-length, 'No Rest For The Wicked,' back in 1976. 'Around And Around' is a Chuck Berry cover that originally appeared on a 1973 single the band released under the earlier name Truth. Originally released in 1973, 'High School Letter' is the debut single from San Diego rock squad Glory. This infectious bonehead cruncher features future Beat Farmer Jerry Raney and the original rhythm section of Iron Butterfly in bassist Greg Willis and drummer Jack Pinney. Glory is what they got up to after their former bandmates left for L.A.'s garden of Eden. 'Jack The Ripper' is a mercilessly bootlegged Cleveland classic from 1978 with a serrated punk edge and vocals that recall Mick Blood of Aussie savages the Lime Spiders. Or maybe it's the other way around - the Lime Spiders formed the year after Strychnine carved off this lethal paean to the infamous Whitechapel slasher of olde.

First time ever reissue of a savage R&B/freakbeat stomper. Hailing from Coventry, UK, The Boys Blue were formed in 1964 by vocalist Jeff Elroy. They were a backing band for Miki Dallon, who later became a producer for the New York Dolls and Elias Hulk. They also appeared on 'Thank Your Lucky Stars' in June 1965 with The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and Lulu. A scheduled tour in 1965 with Chuck Berry with The Boys Blue as a support act was cancelled at the last minute, and the group disbanded soon after in 1966.

(Violent Noise Attack) was the side-project of a crew of friends from the late '80s French scene formed by members of the Thrash band Nomed, Patrick from the highly missed label Thrash Records (that released Exit 13, Carbonized, Sorcery, Sentenced, Vital Remains etc.) and local HC bands/zine editors. Their debut demotape 'Final Execution,' the split 7" with Agathocles and the song on '1984, The Fourth' compilation LP have been always seen as some of the most intense and devastating expressions of the early short-song grind/noisecore era, worshipped by the most deranged noise extremists all over the world. Try to imagine a mix of Sore Throat, Napalm Death's b-side of 'Scum' and Fear Of God and you get the idea of the brain-drilling mayhem these maniacs were able to deliver, with a studio production that was fairly above the average level of the period. This LP collects all their existing recordings, mastered from sources directly provided and licensed by band members. 90 songs of absolute ear blasting horror! Side A includes their demo (1988), the split 7" with Agathocles (1989) and a couple of unreleased studio tracks. Australian post-punk band Pinch Points present the first-ever vinyl pressing of their 2018 debut EP 'Mechanical Injury,' celebrating the 5th anniversary of the release and featuring bonus track 'Pave Me.' This EP was originally released on cassette in 2018 through Roolette Records and Six Tonnes de Chair. 'Mechanical Injury' was self-recorded in the band's Coburg house over 3 hours, just months after forming. Listening today, this EP represents the start of the evolution of Pinch Points' songwriting. Originally released on CD as part of the 40th anniversary 'Henry Cow Box' and reissued here for the first time on vinyl, these high quality Swedish Radio live recordings, made in 1977, include previously unreleased material including Tim Hodgkinson's 'Erk Gah,' a long, epic, large scale composition considered as one of Cow peaks, a breathtaking rendition of Phil Ochs' 'No More Songs' - in fact the only real song ever played by Henry Cow - and Fred Frith's 'The March,' plus the legendary 'Ottawa Song' and other untitled free improvised pieces. Over an hour of outstanding experimental rock music performed by the Henry Cow original lineup: Dagmar Krause - vocals, Fred Frith - guitar, violin, xylophone, Lindsay Cooper - bassoon, flute, Tim Hodgkinson - organ, sax, John Greaves or Georgie Born - bass, cello, and Chris Cutler - drums. Henry Cow's natural habitat was the stage and the real-time pressure of public performance, because it was there that the music could live, breathe and evolve (C. Cutler). All music taken from the original radio tapes and remastered by Bob Drake. The album contains printed inner sleeves with full notes by Frith, Cutler and Hodgkinson, and photos.

'Fae Transit' is an expedition into a realm of faerie music Sam McLoughlin introduced us to in his contribution to Folklore Tapes' 'Swifter Than The Moon's Sphere.' If 'Green And Brown' was a sighting of a faerie parade, 'Fae Transit' is a full abduction, a journey through a woodland inhabited by spirits and haunted by the living. The album is written entirely for harmonium, nylon guitar, hand percussion and dictaphone, with harmonium and finger-plucked guitar continually exchanging roles as melodic and chordal instruments. The interweaving dialogue between these instruments has a chamber-like intensity, though the music flows with simple, rustic tunes singing above any complexity. If you have ideas in your mind of what faerie sounds like, this probably isn't it. The full-throated harmonium drones, triplet rhythms and meandering melodies are more McKenna's machine elves than Tinker Bell. But it's calm. An air of nostalgia and melancholy pervades the carnivalesque music, which is wistful, and occasionally menacing, but never violent. Then there's the anomalous clicks, pops and whirrs of the dictaphone, seemingly rewinding or fast-forwarding time itself, curiously framing the pastoral musings of pipe and string. Is it the listener's ear, or is the music searching for itself from beyond some unfathomable rift? This is deeply personal music that is at once a unique utterance and, unmistakably, Sam McLoughlin's work. Housed in a litho-printed sleeve. Liner notes printed and attached to reverse of sleeve. Hive Mind Records are absolutely thrilled to have worked with Honiunhoni to bring you a vinyl version of 'Jingul' by Ustad Noor Bakhsh. The album contains 6 exclusive solo tracks unavailable anywhere else. This is the debut solo release of Benju maestro Ustad Noor Bakhsh, from the Makran Coast of Balochistan. The album is named 'Jingul,' after a bird that often frequents Noor's house, and whose songs inspired the last track on this release - an original by Noor. The album was recorded live on location, over a memorable sunset on the Shadi Kaur creek, close to Noor's village, near Pasni, Balochistan.
Noor plays an electric benju, amplified using an old pick up and Phillips amp that he found in a market in Karachi three decades ago. The benju is said to have once been a Japanese children's toy called the Taishogoto. At some point in the 20th century, it was modified and naturalised by Baloch musicians who made it in to a refined folk instrument for themselves.
Balochistan straddles the space between modern day Pakistan and Iran but its music, particularly that of Makran, evokes the well documented migrations and seafaring; historical intimacies with Africa, Persia, and Arabia, via the greater Indian Ocean world. It is this world that Noor's music wanders through.

Plans were laid for the co-production of 'Tropical Gueto' in said tour; and the resulting efforts saw the participation of Indepe Roots, Bianca Ciocca, Moska Hernandez, Joyce Musicolor and Feo Feo Records, as well as Gran Om on art duties. 'Tropical Gueto' sets the bar high for digital cumbia, setting a clear benchmark for the genre. Angel Perez (aka Son Del Barrio) lends his voice to the streets and the "barrio" culture of Monterrey, in the expressive language of his own lyrics and compositions; through the sensitivity and technical ingenuity of producer and DJ Andrés Digital.

AGINCOURT - FLY AWAY
A UK underground psychfolk holy grail, originally released in a tiny private run in 1970, returns to vinyl. Agincourt featured Peter Howell and John Ferdinando, who also were responsible for collectable acid/psych-folk LP's by Ithaca and Friends, as well as the score to the low budget movie 'Tomorrow Come Someday' and the cult 'Alice Through The Looking Glass' theatre soundtrack. Agincourt's 'Fly Away' arguably is the best of their catalogue, partly due to the wonderful voice of female vocalist Lee Menelaus and the duo's incredible songwriting. In the '70s Peter Howell would become an influential member of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

Anonymous British funk band Ultrafunk was spearheaded by Blues & Soul magazine proprietor John Abbey, who ran a record shop and label called Contempo during the 1970s; he conceived of the
group as the UK counterpart to US studio bands like MFSB. Arranger Gerry Shury, who had worked with Barry White and Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees, drafted guitarist Chris Rae and bassist Frank McDonald (who often composed library music together) and future Rubettes drummer John Richardson. A lack of band photos, suggestive song titles and a predilection for American cover tunes led many to believe the band was US-based. Their second LP 'Meat Heat' shows the group at the peak of their powers, with five choice hard funk instrumentals, including a tasteful synth-led adaptation of Stevie Wonder's 'I Wish' (beautifully arranged by session guitarist Gordon Hunte, who had worked with Osibisa and Rebob Kwaku Baa), while their take on Norman Whitefield's 'Sunrise,' from the 'Carwash'
soundtrack, is exceptionally rendered. Sadly, Shury's death in a car crash would soon squash the group, leaving 'Meat Heat' the best reminder of their musical talents.

Repress. The musician and spiritual seeker Alice Coltrane was much more than just John Coltrane's second wife. One of the few harpists to feature prominently in jazz, she was also a renowned pianist and composer and her interest in spiritual matters greatly helped steer her husband deeper into Krishna consciousness, which had significant bearing on his music, most notably evident on 'A Love Supreme'. This mesmerising performance, held at Carnegie Hall four years after John's untimely passing as part of a benefit event for Swami Satchidananda's Integral Yoga Institute, comprised a stunning and largely improvised rendition of Coltrane's 'Africa,' with Alice's subtle piano and harp expressions excellently framed by the wailing saxes of Pharaoh Sanders and Archie Shepp, Cecil McBee and Jimmy Garrison trading non-standard bass lines, a dual drum onslaught from Clifford Jarvis and Ed Blackwell, along with members of the Institute on harmonium and tamboura.
