Psychedelic hard-rock of the highest order with acid-fuzz guitar and melodic vocals. A must for fans of the genre. Sourced from the original masters. "...Straightforward fuzzy hard-rock that hits far more than it misses..." ~Aaron Milenski (Acid Archives). FLOW - THE FLOW'S GREATEST HITS (BLACK)

The Flow was a psychedelic hard-rock power-trio formed in New York by Pete Fine, Monte Farber and Steve Starer. It was the early '70s in NYC, the pre-glam/punk/new wave days, when Flow (who rehearsed next room to a band called Wicked Lester, later known as Kiss) decided to start playing music without limits, developing their musical horizons. Their sound was based on hard-rock and heavy-fuzz guitars but adding psych/experimental touches. In 1972 they self-released a private album, 'The Flow's Greatest Hits,' featuring their own songs. This is now one of the mega rarities and holy grails of the first psychedelic era. First officially reissued by the Shadoks label in the early 2000s and out of print for many years, Guerssen presents a new deluxe reissue. Comes with original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + obi. Includes insert with liner notes and photos and a download card with bonus tracks. One of the bands featured in the book 'New York Rock: From The Rise Of The Velvet Underground To The Fall Of CBGB.' RIYL: Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Cream, CSNY.

FOLKLORDS - RELEASE THE SUNSHINE (BLACK)

RTA version limited to 500 copies on black vinyl. A newly remastered edition of this Canadian folk/psych classic - perfect dreamy, sunshine-infused pop psychedelia with a folk bent, originally released by independent Canadian label Allied Records in 1968. When Lion Productions first issued this terrific album many years ago, the booklet featured the few scraps of information on the band they could find. They challenged "anyone out there" to find some information on this elusive and intriguing band. Well, they're pleased that someone took them up on that offer, and that the specific someone was band leader Tom Waschkowski (credited on the album as Tom Martin). He graciously offered a band history, lyrics, and some terrific photos. This allows Lion and RTA to offer up as perfect a reissue of this album as humanly possible. The Folklords' 'Release The Sunshine' is a captivating album, a notion shared by the many collectors world-wide who fight for original copies, which are few and far between. Strange thing is, if someone were to say that the Folklords album was released by Creation Records in 1987, it would be difficult to argue. You may well ask, why? The answer: the chiming guitars, the rattle of tambourine, the dreaminess, and the meandering harmony vocals of Martha Johnson place the Folklords closer to Biff Bang Pow, the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Revolving Paint Dream, or even My Bloody Valentine's debut, 'Ecstasy And Wine' (granted, at a much slower speed, and without the rampant fuzz guitar) than it does to sunny 1960's poppiness. Glorious remastered sound, as the twelve LP tracks were taken directly from the master-tapes.

LOVE CRY WANT - LOVE CRY WANT (BLACK)

Avant-jazz/psychedelic rock recorded live at an anti-war rally in Washington D.C., in June 1972. "Richard Nixon has heard Love Cry Want; you probably haven't - we're here to remedy that. The story: In June 1972, Nixon ordered aide J.R. Haldeman to cut short a concert in Washington, D.C.'s Lafayette Park because the president feared that Love Cry Want's roiling sounds would trigger rioting and possibly levitate the White House. It may have been the disgraced leader's most astute decision ever. For Love Cry Want's lone recorded artifact harnesses a scary power that rightfully put the fear in corrupt politicians. The six pupil-dilating tracks here still strike the ear as alien and terrifyingly wild. Love Cry Want consisted of Joe Gallivan (drums, steel guitar, Moog synth, percussion), Nicholas (guitar synthesizer, ring modulator), Jimmy Molneiri (drums, percussion) and Larry Young (Hammond organ). After establishing himself as a leader on the Blue Note label in the 1960s, Young played on Miles Davis' 'Bitches Brew,' John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana's Love Surrender Devotion, and the first three Tony Williams Lifetime albums. He emerged from those sessions at an exalted level of inspiration and with a formidable fire in his belly, and these traits helped shape Love Cry Want into a sui generis classic - a tone poem expressed with a flamethrower. Nicholas and Gallivan more than rise to the occasion. Using a self-built guitar synthesizer, Nicholas stuns throughout the disc with brash flashes of Hendrix-ian extravagance. Gallivan displays both inventive exoticness and cyclonic power as he and Molneiri deftly guide the group through its furious paces." -Dave Segal, Jazz Times. RTA version of 500 copies on black vinyl. Comes with an 8-page booklet with rare photos, bios of the artists + drawings and liner notes by legendary artist/author/musician Alicia Bay Laurel.

REED, LOU/JOHN CALE/NICO - ENFANTS DE PARIS (BLACK)

Black vinyl version. The Velvet Underground were undoubtedly one of the most important bands on the history of rock music. But their greatest line-up broke up in the late 1960s, and where not to reform for nearly 30 years. However, as early as 1982 the two prime movers teamed up with original chanteuse Nico, for this historic album which was recorded during a live show at the Bataclan club in Paris, on January 29, 1972, and was originally broadcast on French TV. The concert marked the first time since the breakup of The Velvet Underground that Reed, Cale and Nico were on stage together. SIDE 1: 1. Waiting For The Man 2. Berlin 3. Black Angels Death Song 4. Wild Child 5. Empty Bottles SIDE 2: 1. Heroin 2. Ghost Story 3. The Biggest, Loudest, Hairiest Group Of All 4. Femme Fatale 5. All Tomorrow's Parties 6. Janitor Of Lunacy

SILVERBEATS - THE SILVERBEATS (BLACK)

First reissue of rare cassette-only underground neo-psychedelic punk steeped in 'Pebbles'-era rock, from this Milwaukee band which featured Dan Mullin (Plasticland) on guitar and the talents - songwriting and otherwise - of iconic underground maven Tess (James Tessier). 'I Want Speed' shows The SilverBeats' affinity to West Coast psychedelia. And it's no coincidence that they cover the Human Expression's 'Calm Me Down,' rich with harmony vocal, and The Pretty Things' 'Midnight to Six (Man),' replacing the original's rough R'n'B-edge with a slight psychedelic tinge - a real showpiece for drummer Mike Hughes. Another killer is 'Over And Over,' penned by Tess (like all the other originals on this album). It layers beautiful, trippy guitar, a catchy vocal melody, lots of echo, strange effects, and weird sounds before it closes, and we move on to the jolly, jumping 'Love Comes Knockin.' Comes with an 8-page booklet featuring a description by journalist David Luhrssen of the Milwaukee underground music scene which produced Plasticland, Daszu, the band Ör, and the Violent Femmes, among others. RTA version of 500 copies on black vinyl. Comes with an 8-page booklet featuring an overview of the Milwaukee underground music scene.

THUNDER AND ROSES - KING OF THE BLACK SUNRISE (BLACK)

Led by explosive guitar player Chris (later Christa) Bond, Thunder And Roses was a power-trio from Philly in the best tradition of Cream or The Jimi Hendrix Experience. This is their sole album, originally released in 1969. A cult psychedelic hard-rock classic, including 'White Lace And Strange,' famously covered by Nirvana. Thunder And Roses (named after a story from 'The Astounding Science Fiction Anthology') started to take form when genius 18-years old guitar player Chris Bond and bassist Tom Schaffer met heavy drummer George Emme (previously of The Electric Power House). Rehearsing six days a week the trio gelled quick and soon they were playing memorable shows at venues like Electric Factory and the Trauma. Recorded at Sigma Sound by Joe Tarcia, 'King Of The Black Sunrise' was released by United Artists in 1969. Dominated by Bond's outstanding fuzz-wah guitar playing, the album featured seven original songs plus a storming cover of Hendrix's 'Red House.' Sadly, the record label took a wrong decision when they refused to release the killer 'White Lace And Strange' as a 45 to promote the album, choosing the mockery 'Country Life' instead. After Thunder And Roses split, guitar player and main songwriter Chris Bond had a successful career as producer, songwriter, arranger and session musician, working closely with Daryl Hall & John Oates as well as other top artists. Later in his life, Chris eventually transitioned from male to female and changed her name to Christa. She sadly passed away in 2019. Comes with remastered sound and original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve. Includes fold out insert with liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby) and photos. RIYL: Cream, Blue Cheer, Hendrix, Mountain, Black Sabbath.

USURABI - OUTSIDE OF THE WORLD

'Outside Of The World,' the second album by Japanese trio Usurabi, is a rare pleasure - a guitar pop album that's deep with spirit, bristling with energy, melodically rich and precious: full of life. It's even more thrilling than its predecessor, 2021's 'Remains Of The Light,' also released by An'archives, its eight songs falling together just perfectly. If you've ever swooned to the sound of rattling, humming organs on countless '60s garage rock sides, the wistful beauty of David Roback and Kendra Smith's music as Opal, the brittle immediacy of those '80s EPs from New Zealand acts like The Clean and The Chills, you'll find plenty to love here.

YAMA & THE KARMA DUSTERS - UP FROM THE SEWERS (BLACK)

Quintessential underground anarcho-hippie, anti-establishment private press blast by a band (and commune) from Chicago c. 1970, with poetic, sometimes vicious lyrics (Dylan-esque, or Arthur Lee and Love? you decide), and funky, hard-edged bones. Yama & the Karma Dusters (a.k.a. the Euphoria Blimpworks Band) were inter-racial, anti-war, Stop the Bomb, free love hippies, the wildest of the wild kids. They really cook on the up-tempo tracks, sounding like a cross between The Blues Project and Dylan's early electric period band circa 1966, augmented by a violin player. On the hard rockers, founding member Howard Berkman spits out protest without becoming precious, while the band simmers and sizzles. There are melodic folky ballads too, culminating in the gorgeous 'Hello Big City.' The band's ability to mix these elements into a coherent statement - recorded in surprising fidelity - solidify this an overlooked gem of the period. Need to know more? Check out the the massive 16-page gonzo memoir of their hippie commune - you can find out what happened when when Crazy Steve spiked the Gallo jug with acid! RTA exclusive of 500 copies on black vinyl. First legitimate reissue of this anti-establishment private press gem. ZEUP - MAMMALS

The first full-length album by Danish stoner rockers Zeup. The album was recorded "live in the studio" at the legendary Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen involving a minimum use of click tracks, samples, auto-tune, or other digital magic tricks - just like they did it "back in the day".

Strap in as Zone Six delivers a mind-bending, trance-inducing and flat-out aural assault. The vinyl has never been reissued, there was a CD edition in 1999 on Disconforme, but it has long since been out of print. The first bonus track is from the 1977 Swiss recording session, but remained unreleased at the time. MISSUS BEASTLY - MINDEN 1976

After their psychedelic and bluesy beginnings, Missus Beastly had been playing instrumental jazz-rock since 1974. This was also the case here at their performance at the Haus der Jugend in Minden on Friday, January 23rd, 1976. In the same month, just a few days before, they had also recorded their then third LP 'Dr. Aftershave And The Mixed-pickles', still with Jürgen Benz. The pieces on the 'Minden 1976' CD contain some elements of the LP tracks. It wasn't that the pieces were played live - they were free variations.

DIDDLEY, BO - IS A... LOVER

Unlike a lot of other rock'n'roll stars who had gotten their start in the 1950s, Bo Diddley kept going strong into the 1960s and even the early 1970s for that matter. Bo's sixth album from 1961 clearly prefigures most of his '60s output, while still keeping that classic rock'n'roll feel he had been one of the pioneers of, and probably its most original interpreter. From the flamenco-inspired instrumental 'Aztec,' to the two briskly-paced rockers, 'Hong Kong, Mississippi' and 'You're Looking Good,' or the goofy spoken word 'Bo's Vacation,' 'Is... A Lover' demonstrates what a huge influence the man was not only on British rock bands from the mid-1960s but what is commonly described as the "San Francisco Sound" as well. Another indispensable title from the man with the funny-shaped guitars!

KINKS - LIVE ON BEAT CLUB

The Kinks formed in 1964 and quickly became known for their distinctive sound and songwriting style. Led by singer and songwriter Ray Davies, the band went on to release a string of hits throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, including 'You Really Got Me,' 'All Day And All Of The Night,' and 'Lola.' By 1972 The Kinks were spending more time in America, their 1965 ban having ended. Live performance remained a priority for The Kinks with Ray Davis telling the in Melody Maker: "I think the people who have seen us play once or twice understand us more. We wouldn't have made it in the first place if we hadn't gone literally all around England for a year. We played every week in a residency in Manchester and built up a great following there. If I play badly somewhere I feel ashamed afterwards." They also played a short tour of Europe part of which saw them promoting their latest album 'Muswell Hillbillies' on German television. There was nothing for Ray Davis to be ashamed of. Time has not tarnished The Kinks' music nor their performance which shines as brightly today as it did fifty years ago. 'Live On Beat Club' presents The Kinks live in the studio as originally broadcast in 1972. TRACKS: 01. Top Of The Pops 02. You're Looking Fine 03. Lola 04. Muswell Hillbilly 05. CURE - CRACKED REFLECTION (2LP/BLACK)

Black vinyl version. The Cure had been gradually building their U.S. fan base when they embarked on their third American tour to promote their 1984 studio release, 'The Top.' This recording was made on that tour, and features the band during their most defining musical period. Coming off the success of hits like 'Let's Go To Bed' and 'Boys Don't Cry,' Robert Smith and the band had finally come to the point where they could take The Cure's eccentric, characteristically dark sound and combine it with a more radio-friendly approach. JACKS (USA) - ENGLISH E.P.

The story of The Jacks begins in the Summer of 1971, although its creators, Walter K and Mitch G had no idea at the time. Hey! They were 15, and what does a 15 year old know? With many permutations throughout the '70s, the boys started to develop a "sound". Four trips to a little studio helped as did the many high school dances they played. 1977 was when the name, The Jacks was tried on, although they waffled between that and The Cardigans. (Take that Sweden!) In the early months of 1978 Walter and Mitch headed east, initially to arrive in NYC. They had a tacit invite from Hilly Kristal, hey, who didn't, but ran out of the do-re-mi in CLEVO USA! Luck and lots of it resulted in an 8 months residency as Tulsa Jacks. Recordings were made and were to lay dormant for 40 plus years. Back in Tulsa on the cusp of 1979 the boys pondered the next step. 1980 was the debut of The Jacks mk1, they considered previous versions as prototypes, and their debut single, 'Just Like Yesterday' b/w 'In My Time.' Meanwhile Mitch had found fertile musical soil in Minneapolis, Minnesota to bang his drum loudly. In the waning days of Summer 1981 Walter came northward and the two recorded 'Walter's Vacation' as Tulsa Jacks with the help of friends, Bob, Tommy, and Chris. Released in 1982 as a cassette to several peoples acclaim. Meanwhile, in Tulsa The Jacks were up and running. Growing from a trio to quartet with the addition of the poptastic Jerry Casey on guitar and vocals. Recording off and on through 1983-1985 many served... 2 Brians, a Barry, a David, and a Stan. Then the long sleep, only to be awakened in 2020 by interest in a compilation (available on Reminder Records) that was being assembled at Shaggy Manor by studioEGG. Once issued in 2021 the boys set about to entertain themselves once again. This recording is the result. Two new songs, a cracking Jerry Casey tune excavated from a Jacks session from 1983, a cast off Jacks instrumental from 1985 with newly recorded drums and vocals added in 2022 and an orphan track from 'Walter's Vacation' sessions. Remixed with added vocals and other such fuss. So there you have it. 52 years condensed in too many words with so much unsaid. Yours truly, Weird Rogers.

The wedding of Sunn O)))'s brutal drone symphonies with Boris' kaleidoscopic noise results in a wholly unique album that alchemically merges familiar elements of each band's sound into a transfigured, mysterious whole; roaring drones rise and collapse beneath blasts of disorienting, warped horns, the end result a heaving, psychedelic mass that looks set to induct yet more devotees to the shadowy explorations of both acts. JACASZEK/KLEEFSTRA/KLEEFSTRA - IT DEEL I

'IT DEEL' is a project for the upcoming years by the Kleefstra Bros in collaboration with Popfabryk. The underlying motive for this project is the disastrous damage to nature. Together with guest musicians the brothers work on material in the Thomaskerk in Katlijk (Friesland, NL) which stands in relation to this theme of environmental decline. Each project is presented live in front of an audience after a week, and results in a vinyl release on Moving Furniture Records. The Kleefstra Bros: "Trees are pre-eminently the example of life forms that are predestinated to a fixed place. This spot is where they have to survive. For tens, to hundreds of years they are bound to this specific spot, surrender to it. With untouchable patience, many of the trees in Oranjewoud (an old forest in Friesland) have seen many generations of people pass by. But still we claim as if we can decide over their lives and let them suffer with all our interventions in their environment. The Kleefstra Bros are poet Jan Kleefstra and guitarist Romke Kleefstra. Both are member of (amongst others) Piiptsjilling, The Alvaret Ensemble, CMKK, Tsjinlûd and Kleefstra|Bakker|Kleefstra. For 'IT DEEL I' in 2021 they collaborated with the Polish composer, producer, and sound artist Michal Jacaszek. Michal Jacaszek creates electro-acoustic music in which electronic sounds are combined with acoustic instruments. He often collaborates with other artist from various backgrounds including video art, visual arts, dance choreography and photography. Limited to 300 copies.

LONNING/REINERTSEN/KLEEFSTRA/KLEEFSTRA - IT DEEL II

For 'IT DEEL II' the Kleefstra Bros have collaborated with the Norwegian duo Espen Reinertsen and Eivind Lonning (who also collaborate as duo Streifenjunko). Ten years ago the Kleefstra Bros saw Streifenjunko perform at Worm, Rotterdam (NL), and this always stuck in memory. This is why now for 'IT DEEL II' they got together. The music by Reinertsen and Lonning, with the use of wind instruments and electronics, is experimental, but open. It finds a way between improv, jazz and soundart. And like Jacaszek ('IT DEEL I') they work with field-recordings in their electro-acoustic music. Like the Kleefstra Bros, Reinertsen and Lonning are intrigued by forests, and for 'IT DEEL II' they brought field-recordings made in the forests surrounding Oslo. During the recording sessions as a quartet, they created a dialogue between the forest sounds from Oslo and the Frysian forests, and their instrumental improvisations.. The result you find on this LP is one of contemplation about how we treat our environment, our nature, and more specific our (local) forests. Limited to 300 copies.

SCANNER & MODELBAU - LOESS (2LP)

Collaboration is key to the practices of both musicians. Both Rimbaud and De Waard exhibit long histories of collaborating with others from very different fields. They both understand that the ability to exchange and share ideas is crucial, and how these collaborations allow both parties to work as both negatives and positives of each other, recognising spaces within the work fields and ideas. It teaches the respect of space and the relevance of context and extension of one to the other. Interestingly, despite the advent of digital technologies, file sharing and the ability to exchange material online, Rimbaud and De Waard agreed to make a return to their roots. The discovery that they both owned Fostex 280 four-track tape machines led to this musical conversation, where works were recorded in isolation, Rimbaud in the UK, De Waard in The Netherlands. The cassette tapes were then exchanged in the post and subsequently worked on. Neither could anticipate how the other might respond. Both musicians used a combination of music instruments at their disposal. For Rimbaud he used the quirkily named Ellitone Farm Detective Ultrarollz, and Little Boy Blue by Flower Electronics, both of which are creatures that cannot be tamed. Cheap DIY machines that produce something unpredictable. De Waard uses the trusted Modelbau gear, ranging from iPad synths to the Korg Monotron and his usual cheaper than cheap Chinese pedals. Both musicians chose the final recordings, but with very different results. Tape speed could be altered, and channel volumes could be adjusted, so in some ways, there are literally hundreds of ways the listener could experience these recording sessions. In a sense, 'Loess' is just one interpretation out of many. The results are startlingly enticing. Time seems to lengthen, and the interplay of tones and overtones create rich pathways of sound. There is a sense of space and form that envelops each piece. Unusual textures combine to form an elemental whole. At points, it's both equally serene and shadowy, hypnotic and poetic. Tape hiss at times enters the sonic conversation, reminding us of the source of these materials, but never distracts. Rimbaud and De Waard offer listeners an album using old-fashioned techniques, music recorded directly to tape, that penetrates through time and space, leaving us with this resplendent and absorbing moment to embrace. Limited to 300 copies.

DUPLANT, BRUNO - QUELQUES INSTANTS D'ETERNITE

After a trilogy under the seal of a pessimistic vision of our present time and of Humanity ('Élégie Du Temps Présent - Granny Records, 'Sombres Mirroirs' - Cronica, and' Insondables Humeurs' - Granny Records), 'Quelques Instants D'Éternité' is the first part of a new trilogy, always imbued with a certain mysticism and a deep melancholy, but, this time, more luminous, carrying a hope still possible. Once again, the omnipresence of the organ nevertheless leaves a place, discreet but important, to some related sounds, whether electronic or natural.

EVENTLESS PLOT - MEMORY LOSS

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities, serious enough to interfere with daily life. Loss of short-term memory is one of the most common initial symptoms. Several studies confirmed that music affects the brain in different ways; it doesn't just help retrieve stored memories, it also helps lay down new ones. Inspired by this fact, 'Memory Loss' is comprised of two compositions based on repeated patterns that create a sense of the familiar. By removing the expectation of time, constitutes a proposal to (re-) experience the very essence of things, in a tranquil but yet salient and adventurous way. Keeping clear the main composing idea in the foreground, embedded in the brain, layers are added gradually creating multiplicities and tone combinations that lead the compositions into new aural terrains. Instruments like the Model:Cycles synth have been extended with supercollider programming in an effort to remove the time and quantisation limitations of their sequencers and provide sounds richer in timbre and dynamics as well as organically evolving structures. The first part is based on sets of waves forming islands and constellations, seemingly repeating but never quite the same, creating a fluctuating space for the clarinet and other elements to evolve. In the second part, as a complementary element to the first but on higher intervals and pitch, the piano is setting the main theme. Here several pitch tracking and audio analysis algorithms have been used to add on the spectrum of the piano tones and slowly extend it in all dimensions. Though time can be perceived vertically and what is before or after doesn't really matter. Music can work in all scales more like a body experience and less as a cognitive process. This album is dedicated for those who suffer for memory loss.

HAARVOL - SEEKING THE INTIMACY OF SILENCE

"One of the things the pandemic brought us was an eerie silence: imposed, artificial. Together with the silence, it brought a concomitant isolation. It left its mark on all of us, in different ways, but a distinct mark which still remains today. This release which we bring you now, holds, at its core, this recent experience. That is why we wanted to address what we decided to call a kind of intimacy with silence. Above all, it is a question of highlighting the difference between the previous artificiality and imposition by another relationship: now free, now real. To be intimate with silence is to recognise its existence and importance (as Cage taught us many decades ago) and thus to attempt an approximation to try to bring reality into the sounds we have built. A part of that reality, at least, the one that is detached from anaesthesia; the one whose silence is active. The pandemic and the forced isolation brought us another need: to be with others again, to share life and reality (without screens or other devices to disguise the distance). That's also why this record was built in a different logic from all our previous ones: in face-to-face sessions, in which the tracks were being built in a live environment that we had never tried before. What is heard has been played and experienced in a continuous sound dialogue, and yet without a safety net. Perhaps the pandemic has brought us closer together and more eager to enjoy the present. It was, therefore, the sounds that approached and brought us closer to this longed-for conviviality with the idea of silence. Togetherness extended to the collaborations we love so much. To collaborate is to enhance sharing. On this record, we can hear Martijn Comes's guitar or Xoán-Xil López's cello in a crossing of intentionalities and sounds that feed our desired approach. A few words, too, for the importance of words. On this album, we built the track titles as if they were a poem. It was a deliberate choice to preserve its unity, its whole. This is an album that refuses the fragmentary, but rather is made of fragments. Fragments of a whole. And that whole is the result of this kind of poetic metaphor that is embodied in its title. May the approach to silence thus be an allegory of a time and reality that are ours and with which we want to interact intensely, even if we interfere in its most intimate moments, or in other words, its silences... Indeed, Cage again, or memory as a device to nullify distance."

LOCKWOOD, ANNEA -PERFORMED BY MAZE- - BAYOU-BORNE/JITTERBUG

"In 2017 Maze gave a stunning interpretation of 'Jitterbug' at the Tactile Paths Festival in Berlin, full of subtle detail and fluid energy. That they have returned to the work now - and have also created this beautiful realization of 'Bayou-Borne, For Pauline' - is something for which I am deeply grateful. Both works draw on improvisation and are guided by graphic imagery: of a river system in Texas and of rocks from the Continental Divide in Montana. 'Bayou-Borne, For Pauline' (2016) is dedicated to Pauline Oliveros and was composed with her passions in mind. She was born in Houston, Texas, so I created a graphic score from a map of the six bayous which flow through the city to Galveston Bay, thinking that she would have known one or all of those rivers intimately as a child - swimming, wading, river mud between her toes. She was a superb improviser, so it is scored for six improvising musicians with each player reading one of the rivers as a guide. Their lines move independently at first, coming closer together at the confluences to form duets and trios, before converging at the red star, the whole sound darkening as they approach Houston in memory of the devastation and deaths caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. This is one of eighty-five scores contributed to a memorial celebration of Pauline's life: 'Still Listening: New Works in Honour of Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016),' held at McGill University, Canada, in 2017. I wish to thank Doris Yokelson for the design of the map." ~Annea Lockwood, December 2021.

MENALLED, EZEQUIEL -PERFORMED BY ENSEMBLE MODELO62 - BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN

This new score for Sergei Eisenstein's 'Battleship Potemkin' internalizes the frantic, restless nature of the story-lines, breathes the jump cuts and fast action switches in reflections, mirror images, pan-shots, broad horizons and intense close-ups, pulled focus (and loss thereof) and forced perspectives. We hear the granulated nature of the film itself, almost see the razor slicing through the edit frame. While we miss the rattle of the projector, the music calls to mind the flicker of its light beam through the dusty din of time and space immemorial, materialized and contained for generations to follow in the celluloid. A disintegration reconstituted too, revitalized in the new performance by Modelo62.

ORPHAX - ECHOIC MEMORY

"September 2022 I had a short tour in the UK with a couple of performances. One of them was at the beautiful venue Cube Cinema in Bristol during the 'Echoic Memory' evening with Scanner. For this performance, I composed a new work, in which I further explore the perception of time. It follows much in the line of my previous works 'Embraced Imperfections' and 'Less Is More.' Not only because of the live performance, but also in atmosphere and mood. Yet, at the same time is even more dreamy, and as such fitting with the theme of the 'Echoic Memory' evening. I often have various recurring dreams. Each time these dreams occur, I wake up as if I had a strange memory of something that really happened years ago, or something that could happen in the (near) future. Yet, it always stays with these dreams. This live composition represents that feeling for me." ~Orphax.

ORPHAX - SPECTRUM

"'Spectrum' is a continuation of my interest in the perception of time, and at the same time an acknowledgement of me being on the autism spectrum. I got diagnosed with this about 2 1/2 years ago, which was quite the shock for me at that moment. But in the past 2 1/2 years I have learned so much about this. This album, with my interest in minimalism, opposed to bombastic music, is a form to embrace my autism and to accept it as it is. I didn't change as a person, but I do know myself better. The music was recorded live at various venues and home and edited and mixed into these two pieces between September 2019 and August 2020. Initially, this album was intended to be released through the amazing Russian label Stellage. It got delayed multiple times over the past 1 1/2 year, so it didn't happen. After the war in Ukraine started, I talked about the release with Viktor from Stellage. And the result is that I now release this album myself as a limited edition in hand made artwork. I want to thank Viktor for the trust and belief in my music." ~Orphax.

SUZUKI, KAORI - MUSIC FOR MODIFIED MELODICA

"'Music For Modified Melodica' was born out of two explorations: one of tuning (and subsequently degrading) the small reeds of a melodica, and the other to modify it playable with foot pumps, allowing for the sustained excitation of the reeds. Playing with the highly resistive foot bellows introduced massive 'volumes' of air to the reeds, overblowing them to vibrate loudly. This aspect led me to work with the sound potentials of combination tones which appear at high acoustical volumes- an area which has been elemental, especially to my durational sound works, over recent years. The pumped breaths of the melodica are amplified and brought through time delays, with electronically manipulated high frequencies and oscillators to further activate the mix. The resulting experience, as a performer, lends affinity to what a participant to the music previously called it... one which "rewards endurance with transcendence." 'MMM' was performed and recorded live. Similar iterations have been performed in New York, Osaka, and Tokyo in various settings, and at least once in an abandoned naval magazine. Intended for hi-volume listening!" ~Kaori Suzuki.

TONGUES OF MOUNT MERU - KALPA (2CD)

Since the start in 2008 Jon Wesseltoft and Lasse Marhaug, aka Tongues Of Mount Meru, have released a set of intense and mind tripping longform pieces. Their music often almost seemingly static and gradually building it's intensity over long streches of time. This is music that demands concentration, and hypnotically drill into the awareness of the listener. At times abrasive and intense, but also beautiful and calmly introspective. In 2022 they released the culmination of older work with the monumental 4CD box 'Naga Mountain' (Holidays Records) consisting of material from 2008 to 2011. After a longer hiatus they started recording again in the spring and summer of 2021. First came the over 2 hour long 'Lalit (2:14 Version),' being based around the Indian raga 'Lalit,' on the Italian Superpang label. Now they return with the latest culmination from those sessions with the 100 minute piece 'Kalpa.' This being probably their most heavy and crude outing to date. With more focus on actively fusing larger sections of almost clustered sound together with tonal activity. This without loosing the consistency of the longer stretches of overarching microtonal interaction. At times sounding like a churning minimalist nightmare ritual, but on the other end, a beautiful but heavy duty trance inducing drupad veena performance on half speed.

WAARD, FRANS -DE- -& MARTIJN COMES- - EQUAL WEIGHTS (+ART BOOK)

On 'Equal Weights,' Dutch sound artists Frans de Waard and Martijn Comes are tightening the bond of their collaboration without ever actually responding to each other. This paradox was made possible by a remarkable creative process: First, de Waard created two empty containers - acoustic canvases of a predefined length - and added his own sonic brushstrokes to them. Then, he sent them to Comes, who finished the "paintings" by filling in the blanks. What could have turned into a random collection of sounds ended up an immersive journey - thanks to a shared interest in an underlying topic. When Comes received the first version of the two long-form tracks, the old-school electro-acoustic timbres instantly put him into a very particular, sentimental mood. Topics like memory, grief, and longing came welling up. "I just felt a bit nostalgic," was de Waard's nonchalant response, but it sent Comes into an inspirational spiral. Nostalgia, both as a concept and a concrete pointer towards musical source materials, would turn into an unspoken leitmotif for the album. Embedded into the compositions on this CD are ethereal, recomposed sections from the works of 16th century murderer, psychopath and genius Gesualdo; dreamy trumpet and flugelhorn improvisations by fellow Dutch musician Marcel Klingeler; as well as synthesizer leads seemingly taken straight from a 1990s Warp 12inch. "We were working within and towards a shared form," Comes remembers, "At the same time, we were staying within our own space." Nostalgia is closely related to our personal perception of time. And so it can be no surprise that Equal Weights deals with time in many, both open and disguised ways - not least expressed by the fact that these pieces clock in close to the half hour mark each. That reference was also the guideline for the artwork by Bas Mantel, who arrived at the idea of using gemstones as a symbol for digging up objects from the past that have stayed underground for a long time. Once polished, they are suddenly charged with occasionally overwhelming emotions. For the duo, this technique was a deliberate counterpoint to their earlier album 'Various Weights' which was based on a highly interactive, extremely detailed and expansive process of continuously sending sounds and arrangements hence and forth between their studios. Since that release, the two had performed together as a duo several times, gaining a better understanding and a stronger sense of trust. As a result, Equal Weights, despite its exquisite corpse approach, feels more, rather than less, cohesive, than their debut. It also, in contrast with the title, has something weightless about it - a final paradox on an album which started out with one in the first place." ~Tobias Fischer.

ALESSANDRONI, ALESSANDRO - L'ALTRO DIO

Taken from the soundtrack to an obscure 1975 Italian film, Elio Bartolini's 'L'Altro Dio,' these two killer disco-funk instrumentals might have remained in oblivion were it not that Four Flies rescued and included them in the comps 'Esterno Notte' and 'Esterno Giorno,' both of which sold out quickly and have become almost impossible to find. It seemed more than proper now to release them for the first time ever on 7".

CLAUDRIC, JEAN - JEU DE DAMES O.S.T.

'Jeu De Dames, La Libération Des Femmes' was a 1973 film by director Christian Lara, starring Georges de Caunes alongside Danielle Palmero. It's just one of those films that, without being erotic, it failed to find a place in theaters on the traditional circuit. Faced with this commercial failure, the unscrupulous producer at the time, anxious to save his investments, decided to re-edit the film so that it could be screened in the X-rated circuit. This 7" has four short pieces from the original soundtrack.

Another welcome addition to Four Flies' 45s series, this 7" contains three uber-funky instrumentals taken from an unreleased soundtrack by Paolo Ormi, two of which previously included in Four Flies' now almost impossible-to-find comps 'Esterno Notte' and 'Esterno Giorno.' Featuring wah-wah guitars, pulsating bass, drum breaks and pronounced horn section. One of the funkiest blaxploitation-inspired soundtracks ever made in Italy.

CARROLL, BAIKIDA E.J. - ORANGE FISH TEARS

In 1972, trumpeter Baikida Carroll and some of his colleagues from the Black Artists Group(more precisely saxophonist/flutist Oliver Lake, trombonist Joseph Bowie, drummer Charles "Bobo" Shawand trumpeter Floyd LeFlore) took the advice of their friends in The Art Ensemble Of Chicago and left their native Missouri to come and discover the bright lights of Paris for themselves. The following year they would even get the chance to record their only album which would rapidly attain mythical status and a collector's item: 'In Paris, Aries 1973.' Therefore, it was not surprising that they crossed paths with Jef Gilson in the capital. He was always on the lookout for new artists for his recently formed Palm label and had been active on many fronts in jazz since the end of the '50s. The French bandleader/pianist/composer/sound engineer had already recorded, in the preceding months other American musicians who would go on to have great careers: Byard Lancaster, Keno Speller, Clint Jackson III, Khan Jamal... Gilson therefore offered Baikida Carroll the chance to record his first album under his own name, which would be the 13th release on the label. Carroll logically asked Oliver Lake to join him. He also recruited Manuel Villaroel, a young Franco-Chilean pianist from the group Matchi-Oul, who had already released an album on Futura in 1971 and would release another on Palm in 1976. The group was completed with the addition of Brazilian percussionist Naná Vasconcelos, who had just released a well-received album on the Saravah label. They were ready to enter the studio for the 3rd, 4th and 5th June 1974. The first side of the album is divided into two long tracks which send free jazz back to its long-lost African roots. The opener 'Orange Fish Tears' indeed rolls out a jungle of percussion of all sorts and sizes -the whole group is involved- which weave and mix together reaching a point where all bearings are lost, lending a sense of wonder to the majestic entry of the brass and woodwinds, flying suddenly out from the undergrowth. 'Forest Scorpion' (sic) is a real voodoo ceremony where a venomous percussive groove backs the fiery solos from keyboards and saxophone in a furious trance. A warning; after these two tracks listeners are physically and emotionally wiped out! The other side is more introspective. Deliberately using dissonance and repetition, 'Rue Roger' -the only composition by Oliver Lake- in a long dialogue between trumpet and saxophone, could almost remind us of Terry Riley in his favourite ballpark. 'Porte D'Orléans,' the fourth and final track on the album, has the group back to their old tricks in a long hallucinatory jam which owes as much to the contemporary music of György Ligeti as to the most angst-ridden Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack music (remember the heavy chords which beat through 'Planet Of The Apes'). With these two sides, and in under 45m, Baikida Carroll and his musicians show just what they can do, from cerebral to charnel without ever simplifying things. This is an essential album if you are a fan of free-wheeling avant-garde music from The Art Ensemble Of Chicago to Sonic Youth and including Shabaka Hutchings and Rob Mazurek. For those with good taste, in other words.

COLEMAN, ORNETTE -DOUBLE QUARTET- - FREE JAZZ

"The most important thing was for us to play together, all at the same time, without getting in each other's way, and also to have enough room for each player to ad lib alone - and to follow this idea for the duration of the album," explained Ornette Coleman of 'Free Jazz.' The 1961 Atlantic collection features a "double quartet" of saxophonist Coleman, trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Billy Higgins playing on one stereo channel, and trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bass clarinetist Eric Dolphy, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Ed Blackwell on the other. Much like the work of the painter who provided the cover art, Jackson Pollock, the set's approach was initially polarizing but is now hailed as a major leap forward.

TAPESTRY WORKS
MALOMBO JAZZ MAKERS - DOWN LUCKY'S WAY

First issue since 1969 of the Malombo Jazz Makers' unknown third album. Liner notes featuring interviews with Julian Bahula and Lucky Ranku. Lucas 'Lucky' Madumetja Ranku (1941-2016) was one of the greatest African guitarists of his generation. He first made his name with the Malombo Jazz Makers - the successor group to the legendary Malombo Jazzmen, formed in Mamelodi township by guitarist Philip Tabane, drummer Julian Bahula and flautist Abbey Cindi. When Tabane left the Jazzmen in 1965, Bahula and Cindi called on Lucky to replace him, and the Malombo Jazz Makers were born. Building on the popularity and success of the original Malombo Jazzmen, the Malombo Jazz Makers become immensely popular, touring widely, winning numerous jazz competitions, and recording two successful albums for the Gallo label. The deep and hypnotic 'Down Lucky's Way' was their third album. Recorded in 1969, it was the first Malombo Jazz Makers album to feature additional instruments, and the first to feature Abbey Cindi on soprano saxophone as well as flute. But more than anything else, 'Down Lucky's Way' is a transfixing showcase for Lucky Ranku's sui generis guitar virtuosity. Quite different from their previous recordings, the album shifted the Jazz Makers' sound toward hypnotic, extended compositions, layered by organ bass and guitar overdubs. Of all the Malombo Jazz Makers recordings, 'Down Lucky's Way' is the deepest of mood, and the richest of vision. However, through one of the erasures that are ubiquitous in South African musical history under apartheid, it seems that the record may not ever have been properly issued. Original copies are outrageously rare - only a few are known among collectors. When we asked Lucky about the album, he was unaware it had ever been released, and had never seen a copy. Perhaps it was pulled; perhaps it was pulped; perhaps Gallo simply took their eye off the ball. Nobody knows, but it is not impossible that the apartheid authorities were involved, for by 1969, the Malombo Jazz Makers were well known to them. Fully licensed from Julian Bahula.

MITCHUM, ROBERT - CALYPSO IS LIKE SO...

Influenced by the Calypso craze that was started by Harry Belafonte, the debut-LP as a singer by actor Robert Mitchum tackles Mighty Sparrow's 'Jean And Dinah', King Radio's 'Not Me', Wilmouth Houdini's 'Coconut Water' and other Trinidadian anthems with considerable aplomb, infusing his delivery with a faux Caribbean lilt that flatters rather than mocks. A few Don Rae adaptations broaden the palette of the peculiarly appealing record. The LP was originally released in 1957. Comes with obi.

Real underground heavy-prog/psychedelic hard-rock with raw, in-your-face production, German lyrics, insane acid-fuzz guitar, garage organ and dark, proto-doom atmosphere... the real deal! Named after the famous Lovecraft book, Necronomicon formed in the German town of Aachen in 1970, first influenced by bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Hendrix... In 1972 they entered a small studio on the Dutch border and recorded in just five days a concept album named 'Tips Zum Selbstmord.' The title roughly translates as "Tips on how to commit suicide" but the message the band wanted to give had nothing to do with taking your own life but instead with how mankind was facing self destruction, destroying its own planet by pollution, wars, exploitation and overpopulation. 500 copies of the album were privately pressed by the band, housed in a lavish, cross shaped multi fold-out cover. It was a graphical translation of what they wanted to express musically. Original copies are impossible to find, making it one of the most desirable and sought after Kraut/German albums ever. Here's a long overdue new vinyl reissue, including a faithful reproduction of the original multi-fold-out cross shaped cover. Sourced from the original master tapes. Includes insert with detailed liner notes and photos. "...one of the best and most unique German records of the early seventies." ~Cosmic Dreams At Play. "...Necronomicon has created a dark and powerful vision that blends psychedelic and progressive music with a proto-punk garage band sensibility" ~Rolf Semprebon (AllMusic). RIYL: Black Sabbath, Amon Düül, Gila, Paternoster, Hawkwind, Gäa, German Oak, Pink Floyd, Hendrix... SIDE 1: 1. Prolog 2. Requiem Der Natur 3. Tips Zum Selbstmord SIDE 2: 1. Die Stadt 2. THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER
VARIOUS - BOSPORUS BRIDGES

'A WIDE SELECTION OF TURKISH JAZZ AND FUNK 68-78' - The TWIMO Records project is the result of 6 years of traveling and record collecting in the meeting points between different music cultures; North Africa, the Bosporus and the far eastern parts of Europe. These two first two releases explores what happened when Western music styles such as modal jazz, bossa nova, fusion and funk met Arabic folk music, tone scales, instrumentation and rhythm structures in the late sixties and seventies in Turkey and Egypt. 'Bosporus Bridges' is a compilation of Turkish jazz, bossa, psych, fusion and funk compiled by Lasarus and Roskow. Four hundred years ago Turkey was the centre that connected Islamic, Byzantine and Persian music and even at this time Haydn and Mozart fused Persian tone scales and colour of rhytm into their compositions. Modern Turkish music history begins in 1923, when Turkey became a republic and the leader Kemal Atatopened the doors to the western world. Musicians in Turkey first adapted the waltz, but it was the tango from Paris that spread widely and became popular throughout the country. Youth in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara started tuning the radio to everything that was happening in London and rock arrived in the mid '50s. The first Turkish rock music came from armybands under the leadership of officers, but when The Shadows emerged on the scene, the popularity of rock exploded, since Turkish people was used to hearing instrumental music. In 1961 the magazine Ht arranged the competition Altin Mikrofon where the contestants had to arrange a traditional Turkish tune or write a Turkish song and perform it in a "western style" with electrical instruments. Altin Mikrofon is the godfather of all the turkish rock, psych, funk, fusion and jazz that came after. Western records by Black Sabbath, Ten Years After, Beatles, The Who, Jimmy Smith and James Brown got distribution in Istanbul and Ankara and the scene exploded during the years '61-'78 with names like Erkin Koray, Mogollar, Baris Manco, Siluetler, Mavi Isiklar, 3 Hür-El, Selda, Ersen and Mogollar. The blending of the electric loud, arabic percussion, horn instruments and arabic vocals with western jazz and funk rhythm, makes the sound of this forgotten scene unique. SIDE 1: 1. JUZZ
SHAGHAYEGH BAND - SHAGHAYEGH BAND

Shaghayegh was an Iranian rock band that emerged in the mid-1960s. They only released one EP, which was released under two different labels (Royal and Monogram), both versions rare as hell and go try find one, and their original vinyl records are some real highly rarity. Only four tracks are known to exist from the band, and they were printed on two different labels at the time. Now it's reissued thanks to the mighty Juzz label out of Tehran, bringing their garage-beat particular sound to a new life, in a well-cared production, limited to 500 copies on grey vinyl and in beautiful cover.

SOUFFLE CONTINU
CARROLL, BAIKIDA E.J. - ORANGE FISH TEARS (ART EDITION)

Art edition stricly limited to 175 hand-numbered copies pressed on ultra clear vinyl. Includes two color silkscreen printed wraparound and 8-page booklet with rare and unpublished photos. Carefully remastered and restored by Gilles Laujol Graphic design by Stefan Thanneur.

FLOW - THE FLOW'S GREATEST HITS (SILVER)

Limited to 80 hand-numbered copies on silver vinyl, but only a handful available here.

OUT-SIDER
THUNDER AND ROSES - KING OF THE BLACK SUNRISE (PURPLE)

Limited to 120 hand-numbered copies on purple vinyl, but only a handful available here.
