Rhode Island rock band Cannabis are another of those fabled groups that were gone in the blink of an eye. They're at their best on songs like 'See You In The Morning' and 'Sleeping Bride,' both of which display a strong late-period Beatles influence. Another lost gem that is ripe for rediscovery, of interest to all fans of melodic, early '70s psych rock.

Limited to 200 copies on amber coloured vinyl. This is the previously unreleased second album by the Dutch psychedelic hard rock band Cosmic Dealer. Their first album 'Crystallization' from 1971 is an outstanding and rare masterpiece for all psych collectors and for sure one of the best Euro-Underground rock albums of the '70s. In 1971 the band briefly disbanded. They got together again in 1973 with a few line-up changes, but kept the same musical intention: heavy psychedelic, progressive and guitar driven hard rock, with catchy song writing, a few US-Westcoast flashes but also extended instrumental jam excursions. This album contains 6 songs which were recorded in 1973, plus 3 demos from 1971 and as bonus youll find 7"EP with 4 live cuts (25 mins) and was recorded in 1971, including the title track from their debut Crystallization. The album is is carefully re-mastered to catch the real spirit of the beautiful and intense music and contains a poster and a with lots of photos and linernotes.

1972 debut album by cultish Japanese combo! This unbelievable psychedelic/progressive rock band came together the same year after Shigeru Narumo and Hiro Tsunoda shelved their project Strawberry Path (they had a sole album release in 1971 and eventually a 7 inch). Their sound is pure adrenaline, a stormy hard blues kinda thing, with heavy Hammond organ riffs and more than a freakbeat influence. Partially informed by contemporaries, British bands like Deep Purple or Uriah Heep, they opened to more gentle and sophisticated arrangements in the soulful ballad 'I Love You' with an epic string section. The hypothetical single 'Plastic Fantasy' could have been an alternative dancefloor classic with that Traffic/Brian Auger feel in the end.

GARDEN OF WORM - ENDLESS GARDEN
'Endless Garden' is the third album from Garden Of Worm. Having released their eponymous debut slab of doom metal under Shadow Kingdom Records in 2010 and having taken their sonic palette into a trajectory of their own on the 2015 sophomore album 'Idle Stones' (Svart Records), third album 'Endless Garden' arrives after another long pause after its predecessor. Six years in the making, their third album once again sees the band through different eyes than their previous two full-length efforts. The on-and-off process really took flight in 2018 when they recruited Antti Korpinen as their second guitarist. Around the same time, JM Suvanto decided to step down as the drummer and left the band a three-piece once again with Erno Taipale now doubling as both drummer and lead guitarist. Lead vocals and bass remained in the steady hands of Sami Harju. Having known each other for more than 20 years, the trio was on the same page from day one. Their goal was to create a solid and timeless rock album that was more ambitious and adventurous than its two predecessors. An album that stood tall, feet firmly in the muddy earth and hands reaching towards the sky.
Recorded with the help of another longtime friend Tommi Lind and mixed by themselves between 2019-2021, 'Endless Garden' opens wide into spheres of rock, psych, improv and prog - and beyond. Jorma Saarikangas is a Finnish musician and poet from Lahti. He used to record these weird, experimental and psychedelic soundscapes in the '70s at home using primitive gear and has been releasing these previously unheard home-recordings on limited edition vinyl issues since 2004. This fourth and final(?) part in the series was recorded between 1974 and 1976 after the 'Ancient' trilogy. The album contains mostly cosmic synth experiments, but you also get some spoken word, a strange manipulated howling voice, vocals and a little bit of guitar. The best release in this series is very psychedelic and odd. Limited to 250 copies.

Billy Joe Rocker was the guitarist and singer of the Old Stuff Trio during 18 years. In December 2016 Joe formed with his son (Johnny B. Gordon) the band Joe and the Hill Valley Boys, they have been composing together and playing almost daily songs influenced by '50s rockabilly originals.

The Liquorice Experiment hails from Valencia, Spain and was formed in 2016, initially as a kind of moody, neo-garage-psych outfit. Various musicians came and went, but always around the core of guitarist Bruno Cruañes and singer Alex Amorós. The band issued their own lathe-cut 7" back in 2019 and posted various tracks to their Bandcamp page, all the while playing shows in the UK and Europe. Fast forward to 2022, the band had undergone a slight change in direction, emerging as proponents of a tougher, R & B-based British beat sound. Back in April 2022, the band entered State Records' custom-built 8-track recording facility, North Down Sound, to record an LP's worth of material (which should be out in 2023 on the Spanish Snap!! Records label). State picked 2 of their fave raves to issue as a 45, and here we are! Topside 'Novice Pretender' features Bruno taking the (double-tracked) lead vocal, and is
a classic slice of spiky beat, circa '64/'65, driven by tight propulsive drums and some beautiful heavily reverbed guitar, while the flip, 'How Many Lies' sees Alex taking the
lead vocal, with a more aggressive, gritty vibe... great driving bass and drums from Carlos and Brian respectively, and some fantastic distorto guitar from Bruno! Beautifully presented in a laminated flipback-style card sleeve, plus a super-cool authentic push-out centre on the vinyl itself, this is an audio/visual dream and we can't wait to have it circulating!

The Bowlers were from Paris, formed in 1964 by a group of teenages. They got inspired by notably English groups played on French radio, especially the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. After performing in Paris, they eventually became a support act for with the Yardbirds, the Moody Blues, Ronnie Bird, Antoine and the Problems, among others. They recorded 2 EPs in 1966 for the Barclay label, mixed by an engineer who was not at all in phase with the group. A third EP, which would have a contribution by a brass section, was also planned, but it was never released. That EP, with tracks unreleased for more than five decades, appears on this compilation LP.

Cheveu built its third LP on the ashes of those unholy hours, around the majestic 'Polonia', a track on which David Lemoine recites a few lines from Bertrand Blier's 'Buffet Froid' with the set expression of a man empowered by the fact he just shit his pants, while Etienne Nicolas and Olivier Demeaux slowly unwind the rapturous scenery of a theologian western. The song is beautiful, grotesque, heart-rending, just like a scene out of Jean Rays Malpertuis backed by a funeral choir of angelwitches, and is definitely one of the most amazing things youll hear this year. 'BUM', just like 'Polonia', is an inner trip, an odyssey bordered by the walls of an antique mansion, full of baroque embroidery and padded club chairs, perfect aural counterpart for the paintings, of Rousseau, master of the exotic which -paradoxically- never ventured out of France. Cheveus third record is full-on excess and absurdity, but is also much more legible and effective than their previous efforts (see 'Juan In A Million' or the sure-fire hit 'Albinos', which lyrics are taken from a monologue in Harmony Korine's 'Gummo'), even traditional at times ('Pirate Bay' seems like the very first Cheveu song where guitars sound like guitars). This time, the band opted for a much more live-based, organic and fully-produced sound, replacing 1000s of messy cut-ups and Cheveus shitgaze blur by throbbing organs (played by Xavier Klaine and recorded at Saint Merri Church) and wall-of-sound choirs (arranged in Tel-Aviv by Maya Dunietz, already in charge of the lush string arrangements on 1000). The result : 10 tracks drier and sharper than anything Cheveu has done before, definitely out-of-this-world but elegantly mannered, veined with unaltered genius and ending with the spectacular 'Johnny Hurry Up', an unreal track which owes Wall Of Voodoo and X as much as Francois de Roubaix and crowns Cheveu as the masters of a new world where love burns over piles of rotting meat and shit.

D.U.D.S. - IMMEDIATE
'Immediate' is a deepening of the sinister sonic territory they have been exploring, in various forms, since they formed. Bass lines and percussion lope through the undergrowth while jagged guitars pierce the ears. Then there's the brass section, which works less as a means of driving home a song's point, than as a warning that whatever comes next is unlikely to be anything you expect. Lyrics are still somewhat hard to make out, emerging from the rhythmic chaos at intervals, as though you were listening to the recording of an Old Testament prophet, preaching from the ruins of the twenty first century. I don't know what kind of band D.U.D.S. are supposed to be. There are labels you could apply to them, terms like wave and punk with various prefixes designed to qualify the fact that they don't really sound like anyone else. 'Immediate' makes that fact all the more obvious and all the more compelling.

Upon reading the characteristically generous liner notes of this new Analog Africa release, you will be given more hints of the crucial melting pot that allowed this short period to have such an outstanding productivity. Featuring 44 pages acquired in coordination with the National Library of Luanda and the art magazine 'Note E Dia', Analog Africa head honcho Samy Ben Redjeb has managed to collect newspaper clips, extremely rare pictures of the bands on stage and printed interviews from the '70s. DEK: André Dekeyser, Patrick Dekeyser, Vincent Epplay. DEK, three enigmatic letters that say no more... but it was with this name that it all started in the early '80s, when the ashes of punk were still smoking but no longer very hot. The time has come to change your shoulder guitar neck and explore other
lands. It is on the isolated heights of a village in Provence, hidden in a vaulted cellar, lined with boxes of eggs (acoustic ornament in vogue at the time), that the first roar and
hammering of this small group will resonate... especially for the neighbors unaccustomed to this new mode of noisy jerks. The machine is launched, propelled by a Revox tape recorder, witness and engine of these first sessions of raw and spontaneous recordings. Despite the relatively rudimentary technical means and a still rough and rustic way of playing, the table is ready for regular nocturnal meetings, in the enthusiasm to do battle with new sonic territories! Under the influence of the magnetic spirits invoked and after decantation, the rules of the game appear with this slightly demiurgic or even incongruous idea: to revisit different styles and musical genres, more or less known, played from memory then recorded, the first take acting as a trace final. We cast the nets and we see what comes out of them, fishing not always being miraculous as we suspect... This fiercely independent approach of non-musicians will give a kind orchestral catalog of "painful music", where the collective experience and the
blurring of genres and rules are clearly assumed and claimed.
DEK becomes a kind of production micro-cell which, under cover of anonymity (influenced by the fabulous San Francisco band The Residents), reveals his first musical snapshots, or sound polaroids, by burning them onto magnetic tape. DEK is the name which instinctively imposed itself on a micro label of k7
production accompanied by graphic essays for the Musik picture books: covers and booklets of images and drawings - in an aesthetic well suited to its time: the black and white photocopy. DEK comes out of his cellar and migrates to other lands. In the momentum, the first video productions on VHS and U-matic, under the name of KBB will begin, as well as a series of radio programs: Our friends the sounds. It was, it should be remembered, the beginning of the release of the airwaves, and above all a good opportunity for the DEK to thwart 'Boredom In Nice' (opening title of the B-side of this LP). In the meantime, some of the members of the "community" will integrate the Beaux-Arts of Nice while continuing its more or less clandestine activities in this academic context. Only a privileged few and friends will have the first to hear these strange nuggets and taste this expansive sound foam. A few decades later, with the generosity and insistence of two passionate of bizarre music, founders of the label Jelodanti Records, part of the remains of the feast is offered to you on a black vinyl platter... To be consumed at full volume,
despite the long-exceeded expiry date! What shared pleasure! Vinyl edition limited to 200 copies in variable covers, hand stamped.

Giovanni Di Domenico's "Zuppa Di Pazienza", recorded and produced in five months, has resulted in more thorough compositions. Using numerous analog keyboards at the Klangendum/Worm studio in Rotterdam, "Zuppa Di Pazienza" is entirely played by Di Domenico. The filed recordings and overdubs were recorded in a second session, without listening to the original version of the music. Di Domenico then edited the whole project. The result is a tingling of sound material around the main theme.

Inspired by graphic designer and director John Koenig's project 'The Dictionary Of Obscure Sorrows', Electric Litany's 'Sonder' is a musical description of certain emotions, consisting of five tracks, which deal with five emotions so specific that our language does not yet have the words to contain them. Alexandros Miaris wrote some drafts on the piano and the band booked the studio for two days, without hearing the tracks not even once as demos. They found again the spirit of live recording and kept the first one or two takes full of improvisation, without any amendments.

Persistence Of Sound presents a split LP from two leading
artists in electro-acoustic music. Beatriz Ferreyra and Natasha Barrett are known internationally for their intense explorations of the movement of sounds through space. A member of the original Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM), Ferreyra moved from her native Argentina to study with Nadia Boulanger and Edgardo Cantón in Paris in the 1960s. Following Ferreyra's 2019 album 'Huellas Entreveradas' this album presents her follow-up 'Souvenirs Cachés'. Whilst studying with Jonty Harrison at the University of Birmingham, Natasha Barrett was able to work with BEAST (Birmingham Electro Acoustic Sound Theatre), which led to a doctoral composition degree supervised by composer Denis Smalley. Barrett has since established an international reputation as a composer of 3D audio and ambisonics.

The group has surprised itself with this dazzling yet almost dangerous collection of pieces that keep alive the glorious memory of composer Cornelius Cardew - comrade and champion. His work, while of its time, remains strangely contemporary. It is difficult music - mystifying perhaps, idealistic certainly, and contentious without doubt. That said, Cardew was also drawn to rousing, goose-bump melodies that wear their politics on their sleeves. Since his untimely and sinister death in 1981, the world has come full circle and Cardew's desire for rebellion, democratisation, rejection of crass popularism, and a revolution in politics, thought and approach have all become relevant once more. Officer!'s tribute to Cardew features several dynamic re-interpretations of his key works, as well new music that draws inspiration from his principles and philosophy. For this outing, Officer! is Mick Hobbs, Felix Fiedorowicz and Bill Gilonis alongside a stunning line-up of 30 performers from 8 countries. No one knows quite how this project came about - it's almost an international conspiracy, and certainly a closely guarded secret. We hope only that upon their unleashing, these fierce new sounds may be heard by as many ears as possible.

Przepych is a Wroclaw, Poland based duo consisting of members of Kurws, Ukryte Zalety Systemu (UZS), Pustostany and Norymberga. The band is a member of local DIY underground music scene CRK Salka oriented around CRK social-cultural center which is their daily rehearsal room. Although the duo uses typical rock instruments and sound, they avoid referring to typical rock or post-rock structures; instead, guitars and drums as tools of composition owe a lot to the syncretic Rock In Opposition scene, funk-hitting no wave, and post-punk that wished to turn its own limitations into unlimited space. Przepych is a response to these endeavors. The LP is published cooperatively by Red Wig, Déguelite, La Loutre Par Les Cornes and the band.

Muneomi Senju played drums in the Japanese experimental band The Boredoms and Urichipangoon, and he has also performed with Arto Lindsay, Bill Laswell, Merzbow, Otomo Yoshihide, EP-4 and Keigo Oyamada (aka Cornelius).

The Threshold HouseBoys Choir was a project by Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson. Operating out of Bangkok, Thailand, the Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV founding member started this audio and visual endeavour following Coil's end. Despite the name, it was a solo project which relied heavily on computer generated vocals. 'Form Grows Rampant' is the soundtrack of a film shot by Christopherson (a video capture at the GinJae Vegetarian Festival in the south of Thailand) and his first major musical project since the tragic death of John Balance and the subsequent demise of Coil. The music is a suite of lenghty dense atmospherics that combine shuddering electronics with sampled vocals, eerie digitalia, buried melodies and sinister undercurrents hinting at a gleaming heart of darkness, with a joyful melodic progression that sounds positively triumphant towards the end of the disc. It's both Coil-esque and quite different, and undoubtedly is the worthy successor of the legendary group that Christopherson created with his partner John Balance.

Inspired by the likes of Yukio Mishima, Oswald Spengler, Tom Of Finland and Friedrich Nietzsche, Dieux Des Cimetières' 'Stormens Tidsålder' is an album of majestic, orchestral and at times even epic martial industrial exploring men in places and times of dissolution. Throbbing, droning synths, martial percussion, neoclassical orchestrations and neofolk elements weave images of trenches and ruins, marching armies and passionate lovers, and a world aflame in the conflagration of Kali Yuga. Formed in 2017, Dieux Des Cimetières have since then put out a number of independent digital and small-run releases, culminating in the debut album 'European Fire,' released by Steinklang in 2020. 'Stormens Tidsålder' sees Dieux Des Cimetières expand upon the lyrical concepts and musical expression of 'European Fire,' resulting in a much more fleshed out, ambitious and evocative work. Created with an understanding of, and utmost respect for the traditions of martial industrial, neoclassical and neofolk, it is an album that places itself within that continuum, but without restricting its expression to banal conventions or genre limitations. 'Stormens Tidsålder' is an album that takes the listener from the battlefields of the Russian civil war of 1917-1922 to the bombings of Helsinki during the Second World War, to the run-down shacks where those irrevocably traumatized by war drown their pain in alcohol, and finally to the bleak, conflict-torn future looming in our horizon. In an unlikely turn of events, this album exploring the long and lamentable history of conflict in modern Europe was completed just weeks before war returned to Europe - a melancholic soundtrack for this age of the storm we now live in.

Lugola is a noise project from Poland that began in 2012. Since the very beginning the solo work of Michal 'Neithan' Kielbasa is a combination of noise, power electronics, drone and dark ambient. 'You Are Not Special' is a return to the project's roots and is so far Lugola's most radical and extreme record. Regard Extrême is a name that should be familiar to anyone into neofolk, neoclassical and martial industrial. Since its inception in 1990, Regard Extrême has collaborated with luminaries Les Joyaux De La Princesse and was featured in both the book and on the compilation album 'Looking For Europe.' One can safely say Regard Extrême and its sole member Fabien Nicault have left their mark on orchestral post-industrial music. The grande finale of 'Extreme Rituals - A Schimpfluch Carnival', performed and recorded live at Arnolfini, Bristol UK in December 2012. Four leading figures of the international noise circus team up for a unique performance, solely based on their brainwave activity. Each performer is wearing a wireless electroencephalograph (EEG) headset. The EEG signals sent from the stage are received by sound-engineers, transformed from data into sound and processed to emerge through eight speakers surrounding the audience. The performance took place without prior tests or rehearsals. The performer develops and gains control over his own brainwave patterns during the performance, by listening to the sonic results of his mental activity. By changing electric impulses of the brain during meditative and ecstatic trance, the performer begins to sculpt the sound through the mind alone. Featuring Rudolf Eb.er, Joke Lanz, GX Jupitter-Larsen and Mike Dando.

A FAREWELL TO HEXES - RENDLESHAM
A Farewell To Hexes is one of a number of pseudonym/side projects of Adam Leonard who has quietly - and noisily - tinkered at the edges of eccentric English folk, electronic music, and more recently garage art-rock with Invaderband, (issuing a plethora of original music to critical acclaim via highly regarded boutique labels such as The Great Pop Supplement, Northwestern Recordings, Tectona Grandis, Polytechnic Youth, Castles In Space, Bibliotapes and TDO Cassettes) attaining a 'Northern Ireland Music Prize' nomination in the process. The 'Rendlesham' LP is an incredible record of often eerie, Radiophonic workshop-esque electronics and the story behind it is equally momentous. The events across two nights December 25 & 26 1980 in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, have gone down in history; nowadays often dubbed the UK's most famous UFO incident or "Britain's Roswell". The artist and label strongly urge you to further investigate, it's an incredible passage of events with long lasting repercussions to the present day. The music on the record is intentionally redolent of British underground electronic music at the time of the Rendlesham Forest incident. The Gabe Knox side collects a trio of hard-to-find rarities and 'lost' gems; kicking off with 'Student Disco '81,' previously available on a limited Record Store Day 7", it's a sickly-sweet Krautrock inflected synthpop confection, with just enough bite to fill the dancefloors of a bygone era. The other two cuts, fan favourite 'Carbon Bubble' and the ultra-rare 'Cosmic Debris,' which amply showcases Knox's more expansive, experimental-but-still-melodic side, made available for the first time on vinyl. On the flip, Mat Handley's Pulsliebhaber project was an exercise in super-fast recording with as little computer use as possible (for sequencing or processing). Although, as Mat explains "my keyboard playing skills are rudimentary (at best), first takes were used just about every time. Each of my seven tracks were written and recorded in a single session with not one of them taking more than a couple of hours to finish, some of them significantly less than 60 minutes. I think the original intention was to record a bunch of tracks and revisit them later, but after sending them to Dom PY it was agreed to release them as they are with just a little sheen provided by Jez Butler's mastering. So yes, some of the timings are shaky with the odd bum note here and there, but the process was very refreshing especially after spending five years each on the first two Pulselovers albums. Drums were all provided by Volca Beats and the Volca Kick (with maybe one appearance of the Drum Brute). Synths used were the MFB Dominion X, the Korg MS20 Mini and my trusty old Bass Station 2. Everything was fed through a variety of noisy guitar pedals and recorded either onto tape or directly into Audition, whilst titles were all selected from a half hour spent down a Wikipedia rabbit hole and mean absolutely nothing. Thanks go to Gabe for agreeing to share this piece of plastic with me, to Jez for making my synth noodles (almost) presentable and especially to Dom for his enthusiasm and for giving us all Polytechnic Youth." There you have it, a wonderful LP recommended to anyone into Sky Records, Kosmische, previous PY input of course and everything inbetween. Expected to sell out super quick. Limited to 300 copies on neon yellow vinyl.

Discodelic introduces its fifth launch in its series of exclusive limited editions, the second piece of the trilogy of Afro Latin Nicaraguan music. From Managua, we present you the mythical Bwana, the Afro tropical rock ensemble pioneers in its style in Central America, with two themes of their second LP: 'Ritmo Matizon' and 'Pa Gozar', an incredible continuation of their first well known LP, which includes the international successes such as 'La Jurumba' and 'La Patada'. Interestingly, this second LP was less promoted and is a piece very much desired by Latin music collectors, and only intrepid diggers have been able to find an original copy traveling in Nicaragua.
Bwana was born in 1970 from the need to unite the bata drums, the African tradition of Palo Mayombe and the more acid and modernist rock of tropical music. The ensemble was led by Roberto Martines (Maguila), a versatile visionary and creative multi-instrumentalist, who since he was a child has been engaged in spiritual sessions with his family. To complete the idea of Bwana, the perfect connection was Salvador Fernandez (Chava), conga player and great expert of Afro rhythms. The group had massive success in Nicaragua, Colombia, Mexico and Panama, but inexplicably disintegrated in the mid-'70s and its members disappeared from the musical map. In 2019 we met Roberto Martinez (Maguila) in Los Angeles, where today he is the high priest of Palo Mayombe and dedicated to healing through spiritual methods and astral travels. This music project grew up with the idea to build a selection of some of the best tracks of the great Eugene 'Yonachak' Cline, genius producer, multi-instrumentist and singer from St. Lucia. A-side opening track 'Too Much Confusion' is a deep and obscure roots suffering track recorded back in the mid-'70s.
It now receives, for the first time, an instrumental version and two different dub versions. The B-side starts with an extended crazy digi-roots track recorded in 1987. This one received an experimental dub too. The LP ends with the killer hit 'Calypso Fever' which is a reggae/calypso/funk (or unclassifiable) fusion track from the early '80s. You can't sit during this one! This LP has been mastered and cut using original high grade tube/valve analogue stuff from the '60s and '70s. Play it loud. Your system needs it!

Dorothy Ashby was the very best and most swinging performer on the multi-stringed instrument associated with the gates of heaven. Here on Earth, Ashby adeptly plucked and strummed the harp like nobody else, as evidenced on a single reissue containing her two best LPs for the Prestige and Prestige/New Jazz labels from 1958 -- 'Hip Harp' and 'In A Minor Groove.' Alongside her prior efforts for the Savoy label, they collectively represent a small but substantive discography for the Detroit native in small group settings. With the exceptional flute sounds produced by Frank Wess, the combo plays music that is oriented via a unique sonic palate, further enhanced by the principals in the standards and originals they have chosen. Fellow Detroiter Herman Wright is here on bass, with duties split between legendary drummers Art Taylor and Roy Haynes, who place particular emphasis on subtle brushwork. Of course, the watchword of Ashby's sound is elegance, as she and Wess weave magical threads of gold and silver through standards like the circular and pristine 'Moonlight In Vermont,' the dramatic, slow 'Yesterdays,' or the sad 'Alone Together.' In a more Baroque or chamber setting, 'Charmain' and 'It's A Minor Thing' have Wess and Ashby thinking on a regal or Grecian platform. The variety on this collection is impressive, as you hear cinematic bluesy proclamations on 'Autumn In Rome,' striking mystery in 'Taboo,' mischievous and sly winks during 'Rascallity,' and a sexy calypso-to-swing beat as 'You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To' unfolds. Musician, composer and one of the most revered figures for today's younger generation of experimental and alternative Arabic music-scenes, Kamilya Jubran (text, oud and vocals), collaborates with long standing musical partner, composer, accomplished trumpet player and seasoned electronic musician Werner Hasler (trumpet and electronics). In 'Wa' (Arabic for and), their third album together as a duo, Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler continue to interrogate their listening and their expression, their research and their desires, to unravel a musical universe of possibilities; "a unison of timbres, cultures complementing, the complicity of verses, and modes and languages confronting each other" in the duo's own way of communicating respective origins and contemporaneity. For this release, Jubran and Hasler seek new sonic and phonetic territory, based on the wasla compound form found in the classical repertoire of Near Eastern music and in Western modern and improvised music; a suite of musical explorations within one composition. In the 45-minutes-long piece that makes up the full length album, they gradually unveil to us the tenants of this artistic dialogue, as they deepen a longstanding musical pact nurtured since 2002 based on the probing and opening up of musical modes and traditions. The chemistry between Jubran and Hasler's exchange gives birth to a singular, original and extratemporal sound.

Brooklyn based baritone saxophonist Jonah Parzen-Johnson presents 'Imagine Giving Up' on Helsinki's We Jazz Records. The album sees Parzen-Johnson move into new domains of sound as he uncovers newfound energy and pulse in his music. In addition to the sonically rich analog synth elements that accompany his earlier solo saxophone work, Jonah has layered heavily sound designed samples of his own saxophone to create truly one of a kind percussive snaps, reverberant basses, and warbling leads. At its core, the music remains deeply devoted to almost vocal sounding melodic lines and patiently developed compositional ideas. A compact set of six original compositions, 'Imagine Giving Up' is Jonah Parzen-Johnson's most ambitious album yet. While taking a step away from the previous world of "ambient jazz", this music stems from the use of drone-like sounds for baritone saxophone. Electronics are blended in for good measure, creating a coherent vision of abstract jazz with depth.

Recorded by Lucien in March 2018 in Tamlalt, Moroccan High Atlas, in the blue room at the Bibliotatlas collective. Lahcen perfroms his songs on a lothar, an instrument that he made himself, with a wooden handle, a palm soundboard and goatskin.

Lahcen was born in 1969 in the village of Tamlalte in the Moroccan High Atlas. Influenced by acoustic music and traditional songs, he started making music at a very young age. Lahcen perfroms his songs on a lothar, an instrument that he made himself, with a wooden handle, a palm soundboard and goatskin. He is regularly accompanied by his brother on percussion.

Raï is the music of a youth hungover from Algeria's recent independence. It became a space for a liberated, transgressive dialogue that told the social truths of its time -- an up-front yet poetic voice that covers the taboos and frustrations of daily life, expressing emotion without detour. This voice is heard at weddings, cabarets, in the nightclubs of the Oranese coast, and casually on the street... With the boom of the audio cassette, an avalanche of raï tapes were produced in Oran and diffused all over the world. Both women and men sang and listened to the new sound, as raï is intimately tied to parties, alcohol and the night. With the spontaneous improvisation of its singers as the main part of each song, raï keeps reinventing itself. In this style, Cheb Hasni, along with Cheb Nasro, incarnates a second generation of musicians. With the "love raï", or sentimental raï, Hasni sings about love, passion and its setbacks -- moving away from the bittersweet daily chronicles of the first chebs and chebates. Having recorded nearly 150 cassettes, Cheb Hasni remains one of the most prolific and talented raï singers of his generation. SABREEN - DEATH OF THE PROPHET
"Those awaiting", the name chosen by the musicians of Sabreen, still rings true forty years after the foundation of this group in Jerusalem. Voice of the hopes as well as the anger of the Palestinian youth, this group has recorded four self-produced albums. With the weapons of poetry, they will embody the voices of resistance against the occupation but also the desire for emancipation from tradition. Emblematic of this state of mind, their second album 'Death Of The Prophet' was released on cassette at the beginning of the first intifada. It will be the soundtrack, while providing the tuning fork of the future generations. Whether meditative beaches or collective outbursts, joyful outbursts or more serious moments, the band goes through the range of feelings, drawing its inspiration from the sources of classical Arabic music and popular folklore. The result is a unique style, irreducible to any category. All that makes that forty years later, this cult album, never released on vinyl, remains very current. '14 FLAMENCO POP BEAT BIG HITS 1968-1977' - "Flamenco Pop. Just like any other label, it is born out of the need to define in two words a series of songs that share a same stimulus. The term was coined in the late sixties on the eponymous record released by Alfonso Santisteban (Madrid, 1943-Málaga, 2013) and Rafael Ferro, 'Flamenco Pop' (Sintonía, 1969/Música para un Guateque Sideral, 2018), an easy listening wonder with a bossa nova edge that takes flamenco elements and melodies to recreate sophisticated instrumental atmospheres. Santisteban had previously produced recordings for Bambino, Lola Flores, La Polaca or Chacho, and was a renowned soundtrack composer. His pop flamenco shows were more an environmental sound that a pop one, but the label "pop" used as a diminutive for "popular" sets a pace for imagination. Santisteban, Adolfo Waitzman (Argentina, 1930-Madrid, 1998) and Augusto Algueró (Barcelona, 1934-Torremolinos, 2011) were the triumvirate of arrangers/conductors/producers who defined the genre and took it to the charts of the era. Waitzman, who married stylish singer Encarnita Polo in 1969, took his wife to the top of the charts with the single 'Paco, Paco' (RCA, 1969) first, and with the LP 'Encarnita Polo Y Olé' (RCA, 1971) two years later, an LP on which he mixed his love for The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' with popular couplets (or "coplas" as they call them in Spain defining a whole genre) written by Quintero-León-Quiroga, Sevilla's very own answer to Holland-Dozier-Holland at that time. He had previously produced some beat and prog-rock outfits like Canarios, Pop-Tops or the legendary UK ex-pat band The End. Last but not least, Algueró, who married the explosive Carmen Sevilla in 1961, who had already attempted to mold his wife's flamenco talent on the 'Flamenca Ye-Yé' 45 (Philips, 1965), was also a key character in the era thanks to his many soundtracks, among them the iconic 'Tuset Street' (Philips, 1968). The selection of this compilation has a bit of everything. A pack of exuberant "copla" singers presented as a folkloric mod squad: Carmen Sevilla, Encarnita Polo, Rosa Morena, Dolores Abril, Carmen Flores (Lola Flores' sister), Dolores Vargas "La Terremoto" and La Polaca. To name this line-up back in the seventies in front of a Spanish "macho" was an instant activation of his lust.
Pointing out this idea today is possibly a crime of female objectification. On prosecution we'll have Manolo Escobar, Juanito Valderrama, El Principe Gitano, El Noy, Moncho, Richart and Los Nevada. If someone had told me these names a few years ago I would have bet they all came from a typical sixties Spanish film by Mariano Ozores, but do this: drop the needle, close your eyes, hear their stories - no matter if you know the artist or not - and try to fit it in its time (the 1970s, Franco's Spain, grey colors, austerity), but above all do listen to the music. We should refund your money if at any point you think "wtf?." And if your imagination can't go that far, just look for the clips on the films mentioned below."

'CANON SINGING IN CHINA, VIETNAM, LAOS' - Other-worldly Canon singing from Mien (Yao) hill tribes in China, Vietnam, and Laos. Raw, ethereal, and cosmic - for fans of Bulgarian choir music and Javanese court gamelan and Sundanese styles of vocal ascension. Although their name comes from a pejorative Chinese expression that means "dog" or "savage" - stemming from a legend that they were founded by a dog who saved the life of the daughter of a Chinese emperor and thus was rewarded with her hand in marriage - the largest branch of the Yao minority call themselves Mien, which means simply "people". They number 4 million and are spread over the southern Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan and also migrated to Vietnam, Laos and Thailand over the last centuries. Part of the Miao-Yao (Hmong Mien) group of the Sino-Tibetan ethnolinguistic family, they have many subgroups, usually defined according to colors of their traditional clothes.
Recorded and produced in the field by Laurent Jeanneau (Kink Gong), this limited edition LP comes with a two sided insert of photos and liner notes with extended track descriptions by Laurent Jeanneau.

On this album Kuvezin is accompanied by his long-term Tuvan friend and musical accomplice Sholban Mongush on igil (a bowed horsehair 2-string cello) and backing vocals.
