ALBINO RHINO - RETURN TO THE CORE (SILVER)
Albinö Rhino are a psychedelic doom rock trio from Helsinki, Finland. The band has released 2 albums and various EPs over the years. They recorded this amazing 35 minutes continuous piece after jamming it at the practice room mostly improvised for years, in between the heavier pieces that Albinö Rhino is known for and jumped to the studio when the arrangement felt right. One of the parts is written just one day before entering the beautiful Suomenlinnan Studio with the talented sound wizard Ilari Larjosto. The album was recorded live in one day with some additional overdubs recorded later at Helsinki Music Studio, where the album was also mixed. The opus was mastered at Virtalähde Mastering. Dr Space, Olli Laamanen and Mikko Heikinpoika added their magic when the core was built. The piece moves from acoustic spacey music to heavy desert rock and doom with ease and grace and has an amazing flow to create one hell of a good psychedelic ride. Limited to 153 copies on silver vinyl.

Together since 2008 and borne from the wild Appalachian green of West Virginia, Horseburner has never cowered from hard toil. From performing their first live show, self-recording and releasing two EPs (2009's 'Dirt City' and 'Strange Giant' in 2013), putting on an inaugural tour in 2011 and releasing their debut full-length album, 'Dead Seeds, Barren Soil' in 2016, the band has, quite simply, done it all themselves. Having played hundreds of shows over the past decade, performing alongside acts such as Torche, Weedeater, Goatwhore, Obituary, Corrosion Of Conformity, The Obsessed, Karma To Burn and Bell Witch, in 2017 the band reissued their debut album through Hellmistress Records, which quickly reignited that song writing/recording flame, resulting in the gift of new music. In 2019, as well as hitting the road for a monster spring tour of the US, the band joined forces with Ripple Music, the California-based record label and world leader in heavy rock, stoner, doom and heavy psych to bring you the hard rocking yield of that fruitful and inspired year.

2018 album remastered and available on vinyl for the first time! "We all know that music moves in 'cycles'; a generation will discover, revisit and rework the music of a former generation. We've seen this happen on a regular basis with differing results. One of the most pleasing of these revisits sees contemporary bands look back to the early pioneers of electronic music, especially the Berlin scene of the seventies, and thus we see the likes of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and Klaus Schulze becoming huge influences on modern music (it is fair to say, however, that these have long been major influences but now that influence is worn like a statement of intent). Add to this the rise in popularity of film soundtracks and a whole new generation becoming familiar with the likes of Fabio Frizzi, John Carpenter, Goblin etc etc and you have a heady brew of contemporary analogue music that treats these influences with the respect they deserve but add their own distinctive twist on affairs. That preamble leads to this album by Mutante, the pairing of Alec Wood and Jonathan Parkes, who you may know from their equally as excellent Korb project. Previously out in 2018 on CD and digital on Dreamlord Recordings, this wonderful slice of nostalgic electronica is receiving a well deserved vinyl outing courtesy of those fine dudes at Up In Her Room Records. Now, as a rule I do try, not always successfully, not to use the word 'cinematic' but in this case I'm just gonna have to... The band Nukli from the UK were founded in the late '80s and
released several cassette releases and only one official CD,
'Time Factory', back in 1997. While the band have been playing live all these years and released a few live recordings this is the first studio album since 1997 and the band's first ever vinyl release. The songs on this album were recorded at the Foel Studio in Wales back in 2012, so they took their time to get this finished and released but it was worth the wait! This LP features 12 mostly long tracks with a really great positive message. They also mix in some interesting samples between tracks. Overall, the tracks just flow like good aged wine, with some nice solid bass and drum grooves over which Kev Hegan plays some fantastic and cool guitar with a nice use of effects pedals at times. He also plays some keys on a few tracks and they mix in some spacey sounds here and there as well. 'Foel Funk' is a bonus track only on the vinyl, not on the CD or Bandcamp! Limited to 200 copies on orange (Side A & B) and light green (Side C & D) vinyl.

In November 2017, Oresund Space Collective and Black Moon Circle played a show in Trondheim, Norway called 'Freak Out In The Fjord', which also featured the local band Red Mountains.
The next day they were booked into the excellent Ora Studio, one of the best in Trondheim, for a jam session. It took a few hours to set up all the gear (2 guitar set ups, 2 bass set ups, 3 drum kits (yes, 3!), modular synth, Fender Rhodes and Oberheim synth and OSC and BMC were ready to go. Four jams were recorded ranging from Miles Davis inspired ('Afterglow') to Grateful Dead ('Dinner') to heavy space rock ('Freak Out'). It is a hell of a 2 hour musical journey. Amazing artwork by Ed Unitsky. Limited to 290 copies on coloured vinyl, light green transparent (side A/B), light blue (side C/D) and turquoise (side E/F).

Auntie Vegetable were one of Medway's best supergroups, with members/ex-members of The Prisoners, Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes, The Milkshakes, The Gruffmen, The Dentists and some others, the world was their plate and they was ready for the goodness to spurt. With Jamie Taylor (Dan Stardust), Ian Smith (Kid Aphrodite), Allan Crockford (Rock Action), Bruce Brand (Stoop Solo ||) and Sexton Ming (Jive Phazer) gathering together to form an 'Acid Garage' group, their task was to destroy everything they could, but with much failure, they fully entertained a pub full of listeners way back in 1986, doing the same in other outlets after, including the legendary performance at The Bandstand, Chatham in 1986 (footage of which can be found on YouTube). With no particular 'break-up', the Auntie Vegetable parts went on to much success in formations such as The Headcoats/Thee Headcoatees, Phaze, The Prime Movers, The Solarflares, and each are still active in many formations, notably The Galileo 7, The Dirty Contacts, The James Taylor Quartet, The Masonics, The Mindreaders, Armitage Shanks, The Voo-Dooms, Sounds Incarcerated, Sexton Ming and many more! Some 35 years later, 2021 sees the Auntie Vegetable re-grouping for a one-off show in Medway, with this EP allowing us to remember the goodness that the edible plant matter provides. Here we have four of the five recorded covers from the 1986 Woolly Studios recording, the fifth to feature elsewhere. These tracks have previously been featured on the Medway Powerhouse albums, and Hangman Sampler from Hangman Records between '87-88, now with added mastering to fill your needed appetite. Side A's glorious take on Ray Stanley's 'Glendora' (in Downliners Sect take) sets the pace, with The Yardbirds' 'Stroll On' following up. The Thanes originate from Edinburgh, Scotland and have been playing as a group now for some 36 years. In that time they have made 23 singles and released eight albums. The Men With The Golden Gonads is the brains of the late, great Tim Webster. Tim made plenty of racket in his time, mostly with The Sputniks (releasing a 10" album in 1986), Timmy Tremolo and The Tremolons (who featured on three of compilations on Billy Childish's Hangman Records), Johnny Gash and plenty more! Tim would spend much of his spare (and not spare) time at Gruts Cafe on Rochester High Street, where many Medway musicians would gather to plan musical world domination. The Men With The Golden Gonads also included Tim's brother Stephen on saxophone, with Russ Baxter (Phaze, The Treasures Of Mexico, The Discords, and currently Secret Affair) on drums, Tony Cook (The Gravediggers, The Fugitives) on bass, Presun Amin (Envy) on organ, and Dave Gibbons on trumpet, some of which had also played with Tim in The Tremolons. Tim Webster sadly left this world on 20th June 2020. During 1990 and 1991, The Men With The Golden Gonads went into Red Studios, Kent and recorded a number of tracks, with Billy Childish on producer duties. This album contains fourteen of those recordings, which includes eleven of the band's favourite songs to cover, and three of Tim Webster's originals.

'Summer Forever And Ever' succeeds 'Blue Gene Stew,' 2019's debut by the Wolfmanhattan Project, a collective unit co-starring three musicians familiar to In The Red listeners: singer-guitarist Mick Collins, front man of the seminal Detroit-bred garage units the Dirtbombs and the Gories, singer-guitarist Kid Congo Powers who played in such legendary bands as the Gun Club, the Cramps, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and drummer-vocalist Bob Bert, whose skin work has distinguished albums by Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch's Retrovirus, and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers. The group was founded as a studio project by three musicians who are kept busy by their primary bands. 'Blue Gene Stew' was written and recorded quickly. Powers says, "I think that the new record was much more a group effort. I think there's more of a group kind of sound, as eclectic as it is. I feel like we all played together, as opposed to playing on each other's songs." Bert notes that the band's music is grounded in spontaneity: "Me and Mick went in and had a couple of rehearsals, and I would come up with a beat, he would come up with a riff. I still have a cassette Walkman, believe it or not, and we'd put it down on that. It wasn't even a full song. We'd just put down a bunch of ideas. When it came to recording we'd lay down the basic tracks and work out different things, and a lot of it was made up on the spot. It really is a great collaboration." Recorded and engineered by Mark C. of Live Skull at his studio, 'Summer Forever And Ever' finds Powers playing piano and the Kaoss touch-pad effects unit and Collins playing synthesizer, in addition to their usual instruments. The album reflects the same eclectic mix of musical styles heard on the debut. References and sometimes even direct quotes from sources as diverse as the Andrea True Connection, Captain Beefheart, the Count Five, and Eurythmics leap out of the speakers.

The High Span is a musical project based in Rochester, Kent and features three experienced, yet unjaded, musical souls in Kevin Younger (of Armitage Shanks, Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes, Subway Sect, Baby Birkin, The Speed of Sound and others), Mark Aitken (of Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes, The Men From Memphis, Bob Collins & The Full Nelson, These Guilty Men and others) and Jimmy Moore (of Pod, One Free Fall and revered Canadian alt-rockers Rusty). Sarah Post also joins them on backing vocals on the album and at live shows too. The High Span unleashed their 'Quirky Miniboss Squad' EP in August of 2020 (yeah, that year), and managed to grab attention from press and public alike, selected as one of Record Collector's singles of the year. The High Span's special blend is one of DIY post-pop jangle and edgier experimental sounds, of lyric-driven guitar-pop and English awkwardness. It's been described as 'sort of suburban Jake Thackray meets Stereolab.' The debut long player from The High Span, these thirteen tracks provide a good insight into their buttoned down hive mind, and features some current live favourites, including their take on Brian Protheroe's 'Pinball.' Guitarist and multi instrumentalist Chris Wilson is the ex-singer of the best-remembered line-up San Francisco's cult classic band The Flamin' Groovies and a long-term member of The Barracudas, another band with a dedicated and loyal fan base that stretches right around the world. His musical career's highlights include the classic Flamin' Groovies album Shake Some Action [1976] - one of the finest pop albums of its time - while his songs and music have appeared in Hollywood movies, including Clueless [1995], and are repeatedly covered by other bands. Now resident in North London, the US-born musician continues to gig and record - his most recent venture into the studio resulting in a new album, Second Life.
