Previously self-released in 1977, the debut album by Aditus from Venezuela is a case of non-stop high-energy crossover, the progeny of 4 outstanding musicians who were versed in equal measure in prog-rock and jazz fusion. In the same manner that Vytas Brenner popularized local folk music by transmuting it through electronics, prog and jazz, Aditus bring high-energy jazz-fusion overladen with prog keyboards, with a fair share of latin percussion and juicy rhythm sections. Most notably, it features a space-age anthem ('El Conde De Casanare') that simply adds a mouthwatering grain to a versatile wall of sound. The album has been remastered from the original tapes and includes a bonus CD with a rare soundboard recording from one of the most spectacular live shows performed by Aditus in 1977, plus 2 previously unreleased studio tracks from the same period and a 12-page booklet packed with the original band-members' memoirs, rare photos and paraphernalia. Albinö Rhino are a psychedelic doom rock trio from Helsinki, Finland. The band has released 2 albums and various EPs over the years. They recorded this amazing 35 minutes continuous piece after jamming it at the practice room mostly improvised for years, in between the heavier pieces that Albinö Rhino is known for and jumped to the studio when the arrangement felt right. One of the parts is written just one day before entering the beautiful Suomenlinnan Studio with the talented sound wizard Ilari Larjosto. The album was recorded live in one day with some additional overdubs recorded later at Helsinki Music Studio, where the album was also mixed. The opus was mastered at Virtalähde Mastering. Dr Space, Olli Laamanen and Mikko Heikinpoika added their magic when the core was built. The piece moves from acoustic spacey music to heavy desert rock and doom with ease and grace and has an amazing flow to create one hell of a good psychedelic ride. Equilibrio Vital spawned 2 remarkable albums of equal gravitas that are on top of prog collectors' lists. 1984's 'Kazmor El Prisionero' is a concept album that not only appeals to prog and psychedelia aficionados, but will also surprise fans of prog and folk metal. JENS - BE AS GOOD TO OTHERS AS THEY ARE NOT TO YOU
'Be As Good To Others As They Are Not To You' starts as a mystery. A piece of tangible vinyl with often transient and evanescent content; sound appearing and fading such that you can lose certainty as to whether it emanates from the record or from out in the street. The music measured and atmospheric; a rural psychedelia on the cusp between folk and country; gnomic lyrics, meditating on loss as a stage in the cycle of nature, with a strong impression of a patient, unforced gestation.
The sleeve has a stark beauty; the front being a fine piece of John Hurford frontier art, akin to that of Jeff Horsey's 'Rattlesnakes And Heartstrings.' There is no legend and nothing on the spine either. The back shows two rustic, bearded gentlemen with small guitar, a pump organ, and an ancient zither; there are song titles but they're barely decipherable.
This pair are Jens Unossun and Arne Jonasson. Jens is a founder member of The Spacious Mind, a notable Swedish ensemble who, for nigh on three decades, have been releasing memorable psychedelic music. They famously accompanied Tom Rapp, of Pearls Before Swine, at his Terrastock appearance in London in 1999. Jonasson is a regular collaborator with Jens on such side-trips as The Holy River Family Band. They're the sole performers on six of the eight tracks here; Jens singing and playing keyboards, Arne on various stringed instruments, and both adding percussion. The other two - 'Sweet Home Blues (Redneck Dumbfuck Blues)' and 'Green Was The Day (Bottom Of The Well)' - see them joined by the Head Country Hoedowners - Snosun and Aarnson Jones, Black Owl, and Dave Hell - and the presence of these acclaimed purveyors of outlaw mutation boogie signal changes in mood. The Jones Brothers also serve as producers and arrangers.

"The West Country can be a strange and mad place. It surely was in those wild counter-cultural days as the '60s slid into the '70s. Arriving in Bristol in late 1971 for what proved a five-year stretch I crossed paths - in cider pubs, occult bookshops, venues, and record shops - with all manner of characters touched and changed by their doings during those times. Similar doings likely rubbed off and left their mark on me. This extraordinary artefact hails from that milieu, fleshes out a tale that's been retold a few times in various under-the-radar settings, and given three of the central protagonists are now dead perhaps now tells the definitive story. It rescues lost music and presents it as it was originally meant to be, before temporary silliness and pique took hold, making good on renewed but shelved intentions. It's music weird, crazy, and magnificent, possessed of truly creative, psychedelic madness. To frame it as an English 'Trout Mask Replica' is on the money, though along with the Magic Captain, Bartok and Stockhausen will be pleased to hear they are cited as influences, and there's elements of post-war radio comedy too." ~Bucketfull Of Brains. There was a time in the mid to late '70s when a modicum of mellowness and melody started creeping into heavy rock, it was a period that saw the rise of bands like Bad Company, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Boston and early Foreigner, bands who when called upon could rock like a cradle in a hurricane but also had in their locker songs that could tug at your heartstrings and didn't just rely on a riff to grab their listeners attention. Sweden's Snowy Dunes, Niklas Eisen (lead vocals, percussion, acoustic guitar), Christoffer Kingstedt (electric guitars, guitorchestration), Carl Oredson (bass, keyboards, mellotron) and Jonathan Wårdsäter (drums, percussion) do not exactly work from the same blueprint that those bands used to propel their careers into the stratosphere, Snowy Dunes' grooves are a little bit too gnarly and gritty, but they do bring to underground rock many of those same attributes of songcraft, melody and soulful gravitas that saw those other bands become staples of worldwide rock radio stations, attributes that can be found scattered quite liberally throughout the five songs that make up the band's third album 'Sastrugi.'

An all-time classic from the vast fields of eclectic prog that most probably will never grow old for as long as there are demanding listeners. 'Atabal Yemal,' recorded in 1979, is a gigantic clockwork formation of perfectly synchronized small parts that melt into surreal supple space. At times, symphonically weeping woodwinds in dialogue with zeuhl at its darkest, as the surface antithesis is resolved by a strange attractor that swallows them and then leaves a trombone pondering all alone 'what has just happened?'. At times, ferocious guitar attacks a la John Zorn, receding into a placid swan lake. This might as well be the soundtrack to a fantasy theatrical play, as it is so oneirically evocative as a multilayered impossible building with metonymic floors that refer incessantly up, down and sideways. The album has been remastered from the original tapes and includes a bonus CD with previously unreleased tracks from the 'Atabal Yemal' 1979 recording sessions, plus live tracks and a 12-page booklet packed with original bios, photos and paraphernalia from Tempano's 45 years in Progland. Singer-songwriter Peter Daltrey returns with the album 'Running Through Chelsea' together with The Know Escape. As one of Britain's finest songsmiths of the 1960s and 1970s, Peter's voice continues to convey magic and emotion with a lustre of lysergic lyrical lacquer. His brilliant '60s group Kaleidoscope were one of the great psychedelic groups to emerge from the U.K. during those heady days. With infectious pop tunes laced with folk-rock jingle-jangle goodness and anapaestic lyrics that set them apart from many of their contemporaries, Kaleidoscope were vital as was too their more progressive folk early '70s incarnation as Fairfield Parlour. The band has often been spoken about with the same reverence reserved for Pink Floyd's Syd Barrett era, despite their lack of mainstream success. This is a 50-50 collaboration with Mark Mortimer, formerly of DC Fontana and The Sorrows, who has always been a fan of Peter's work. 'Chelsea' is more sonic expressionism from the two musicians; the songs are "psychedelic" in a sense without ever falling into the trap of being shoddy xeroxes of past glories. This is modern, forward-looking music with a lot of techniques and textures that Kaleidoscope fans will enjoy. The album is produced by longtime Julian Cope producer Donald

Featuring a much bigger sound, this follow-up is more elaborate and cinematic than the first.

In 2010, OSC played the Bat Cave at the Roadburn Festival, Tilburg, Holland. It was a fantastic show and 16th SRP released this as a double vinyl LP (SRP003) that has long been sold out. In 2021 Dr Space did a hand-numbered totally new mix of this concert, which includes the full show. One song, 'Jam for Tobias' was not included on the double LP. In addition, a friend of the band, Anders, had filmed the show from the back of the hall and this has never appeared anywhere before. This has been sync'd with the new audio (thanks Larry) and is included on a DVD! Limited to 200 hand-numbered copies in 8 sided digisleeve.

UNICORN (UK) - TOO MANY CROOKS
Reissue of the classic third album from 1976 by pastoral British folk rockers Unicorn produced by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. It was their first for EMI's Harvest label in the UK and second for Capitol in the US. Almost completely penned by guitarist/keyboardist/singer Ken Baker, the album combines impassioned 1970s West Coast vibes with Beatlesque melodies and tight performances. Indeed, the album, while remaining sonically consistent, enjoys shifting effortlessly between gritty country rockers like the Lindsey Buckingham sounding 'He's Got Pride' and 'In The Mood,' to the funky 'Bullseye Bill'' and the gentle title track which is not unlike Big Star at their finest. While Unicorn were sadly unsuccessful in turning the proto-powerpop 'Disco Dancer' into a major hit, the album track 'No Way Out Of Here' went on to be the key track on David Gilmour's debut album. It's a must-have album for any serious music fan.

BRYARS, GAVIN - THE SINKING OF THE TITANIC
Gavin Bryars was born in Yorkshire, England in 1943. His first musical forays were as a jazz bassist working in the early 1960s with improvisors Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley. Bryars later worked with composers John Cage and Cornelius Cardew, founded the Portsmouth Sinfonia and collaborated with Brian Eno on his famed Obscure imprint. 'The Sinking Of The Titanic,' Bryars' first major composition, was inspired by the tragic event of the British passenger liner's cross-Atlantic maiden voyage. Bryars eloquently reconstructs the passengers' experience - at once forlorn and eerily calming - through assemblages of understated strings and indeterminate elements. A core principle of the piece is that the ship's band continued to play as the vessel went down. One of the most sublime works in the modern classical canon, 'Titanic' remains Bryars' magnum opus. 'Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet,' the album's second sidelong track, is based on a tape loop of a London street singer captured in the early 1970s. Featuring Derek Bailey, Michael Nyman and John White, Bryars' composition gradually builds around the cripplingly poignant voice until its emotional force is almost too much to bare. It's no surprise that 'Jesus' Blood' is known as Tom Waits' all-time favorite piece of music. Produced by Brian Eno in 1975 as the inaugural release on Obscure, 'The Sinking Of The Titanic' draws the listener in to a majestic world. While these exquisite, hymn-like recordings have not changed in nearly 50 years, their deeply personal nature and the audience's attention to their subtlety have only strengthened over time. First-time vinyl reissue.

...23 VIII 64 2:50:45-3:11 AM THE VOLGA DELTA' - Reissue of first album by composer La Monte Young, originally released in 1969 on Edition X. La Monte Young was born in Bern, Idaho in 1935. He began his music studies in Los Angeles and later Berkeley, California before relocating to New York City in 1960, where he became a primary influence on Minimalism, the Fluxus movement and performance art through his legendary compositions of extended time durations and the development of just intonation and rational number based tuning systems. With wife and collaborator, artist Marian Zazeela, they would formulate the composite sound environments of the Dream House, which continues to this day. Seeing reissue for the first time since its initial 1969 release, Young and Zazeela's first full-length album is often referred to as 'The Black Record' due to Zazeela's stunning cover design, complete with the composer's liner notes in elegant hand-lettered script. Side one was recorded in 1969 (on the date and time indicated by the title) at the gallery of Heiner Friedrich in Munich, where Young and Zazeela premiered their Dream House sound and light installation. Featuring Young and Zazeela's voices against a sine wave drone, the recording is a section of the longer composition 'Map Of 49's Dream The Two Systems Of Eleven Sets of Galactic Intervals Ornamental Lightyears Tracery' (begun in 1966 as a sub-section of the even larger work 'The Tortoise, His Dreams And Journeys,' which was begun in 1964 with Young's group The Theatre of Eternal Music). According to Young, the raga-like melodic phrases of his voice were heavily influenced by his future teacher, the Hindustani singer Pandit Pran Nath.
Side two, recorded in Young and Zazeela's NYC studio in 1964, is a section of the longer composition 'Studies In The Bowed Disc.' This composition is an extended, highly abstract noise piece for bowed gong (gifted by sculptor Robert Morris). The liner notes explain that the live performance can be heard at 33 and 1/3 RPM, but may also be played at any slower speed down to 8 and 1/3 RPM for turntables with this capacity. Cluster was the pioneering German duo of Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius. Formed on the cusp of the 1970s, they were a part of West Germany's nascent Kosmische Musik scene. The group would use restrained improvisational techniques similar to Gruppo Nuova Consonanza, working with both electric and acoustic instruments (organ, guitar, tone generators, cello, etc.) to create a singular sound that Julian Cope called "a huge beating heart, planet-sized and awesome." Originally released in 1972 on Brain, 'Cluster II' features six pieces of atmospheric, proto-ambient drones - a step forward from Cluster's 1971 self-titled debut, which had all untitled songs. On 'Im Suden,' hypnotic bass pulsations and repetitive guitar patterns flow serenely, while side two opener 'Live In Der Fabrik' dives deep into Roedelius and Moebius' foreboding industrial soundscapes and synergistic textural interplay.
As Roedelius told Uncut magazine in 2022, "This feels like a breakthrough? Well, we were just getting more into it, and getting more experienced at being able to elaborate it. Conny (Plank) was working with us again... as well as being a multi-talented artist, he was a very experienced sound master and great human being. He contributed as a fellow musician, adding sounds with his mixing table such as reverb, delay and other effects enriching the whole pieces so that they finally became somehow unique." It's no surprise that when Neu! guitarist Michael Rother first heard Cluster II, he suggested a collaboration with the band... resulting in the supergroup Harmonia who would make their first album together the following year.

Following the release of 'Cluster II,' the duo relocated to the village of Forst where they built a home studio and began to collaborate with like-minded artists such as Michael Rother and Brian Eno. 1974's 'Zuckerzeit,' Cluster's first album made in their countryside studio, marked a major shift in their music from experimental noise to avant-pop. 'Hollywood' starts things off with infectious loops, analog drum machines and sweeping synth. 'Caramel' seems to pick up the pace even more; its sugary groove promptly dissolves into a sea of ethereal keyboards, amorphous layers and sparse chords. For 'Zuckerzeit,' Roedelius and Moebius developed the tracks individually. They recorded in separate rooms on different days, although each piece flows into the next seamlessly. While Rother is listed as producer on the original Brain release, he was reportedly not present at the sessions and simply loaned the band some equipment. Bringing together Cluster's haunted melodic sense and motorik rhythms, 'Zuckerzeit' reveals not only how much the band grew from their experience in Harmonia, but also how instrumental they were in their later collaborations with Eno.

Limited repress, be fast! 1977's 'Transcendence' was not only Alice Coltrane's last studio album for Warner Bros., it would also be her last studio work for nearly three decades. While 'Eternity' and 'Radha-Krsna Nama Sankirtana' followed the composer's muse through an exciting range of musical styles and influences, 'Transcendence' is perhaps the most fully realized of the three LPs, synthesizing the best elements of each into a monumental whole. Side one consists of intimate compositions with Alice's pointillist harp enhanced by intricate string arrangements. At times, the emotional climaxes in 'Radhe Shyam' and the title track sound like the score to an epic film. This would be the closest Coltrane ever came to chamber music, yet rendered with her uniquely spiritual tint. Side two moves into celestial territory with uplifting chants, light handclaps and bluesy organ. These call-and-response chants, featuring members from her Ashram, completely embody both African-American gospel and Hindu devotional traditions, an uncanny fusion that is transformed through Alice's pure spirit. What runs through the album's two musical halves is a powerful sense of devotion and discovery. At this point in her life, Coltrane was on a journey toward truth through sound, and 'Transcendence' gives the listener a front row seat to this quest.

By the late '70s, Alice Coltrane had largely gravitated away from jazz, incorporating Hindu chants and hymns into her music to reflect a newfound sense of creative omnipotence. However, in April 1978, she would return to her roots, performing at University of California, Los Angeles to make her first and only live album. 'Transfiguration', featuring drummer Roy Haynes and bassist Reggie Workman, showcases Alice's many compositional talents and fierce improvisatory abilities. Throughout this double LP set, her playing evokes the time spent in her late husband John Coltrane's band and the avant-garde music of her earlier years. As biographer Franya J. Berkman writes, "Her up-tempo keyboard work here is the most exciting of her commercial career. With its rapid-fire transpositions of short figures; its long modal passages, rhythmic play, and timbral inventiveness; its sustained energy and burning pace; and the unrelenting support of Haynes and Workman, she takes leave of the jazz business with a truly breathtaking swan song." Alice Coltrane would not revisit jazz on record for another 26 years, turning instead to spiritual music made with students at her Vedantic Center and self-releasing a series of cassettes under her Sanskrit name, Turiyasangitananda. It is hard to imagine a better farewell than the intense and spellbinding 'Transfiguration.'
