0530940 LP SRP 78 0745240411130 SPACE ROCK	ALBINO RHINO - RETURN TO THE CORE (BLACK) Albinö Rhino are a psychedelic doom rock trio from Helsinki, Finland. The band has released 2 albums and various EPs over the years. They recorded this amazing 35 minutes continuous piece after jamming it at the practice room mostly improvised for years, in between the heavier pieces that Albinö Rhino is known for and jumped to the studio when the arrangement felt right. One of the parts is written just one day before entering the beautiful Suomenlinnan Studio with the talented sound wizard Ilari Larjosto. The album was recorded live in one day with some additional overdubs recorded later at Helsinki Music Studio, where the album was also mixed. The opus was mastered at Virtalähde Mastering. Dr Space, Olli Laamanen and Mikko Heikinpoika added their magic when the core was built. The piece moves from acoustic spacey music to heavy desert rock and doom with ease and grace and has an amazing flow to create one hell of a good psychedelic ride. 0531035 LP SOMM 80 4040824091910 SOMMOR	ANCIENT GREASE - WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST Heavy-rock/bluesy sound with West Coast overtones and some devastating fuzz-wah guitar. Originally named Strawberry Dust, Ancient Grease was a hard psychedelic band from Wales, connected to Eyes Of Blue and Racing Cars. They were supported by John Weathers (Eyes Of Blue) who also acted as producer and songwriter for their sole album, recorded in London. When eventually released in 1970, 'Women And Children First' was credited to Ancient Grease instead of Strawberry Dust (one of those "great" ideas by major labels). The album was first issued in the US and later in the UK, both on the Mercury label but with different sleeves (being the UK one the most desirable and collectable). 0531036 LP OSR 96 4040824092009 OUT-SIDER	BACCHUS - CELEBRATION Born out from the ashes of legendary Florida garage band The Tropics (of 'As Time's Gone' fame), Bacchus was a powerful psychedelic/hard-rock/boogie power trio influenced by Cream, Hendrix, Allman Brothers et al. They only released four rare 45s, collected here for the first time. When Eric Turner (guitarist, vocalist and songwriter), grew into a more progressive form of rock music after a split from The Tropics, he teamed up with fellow Tropics bass player Charlie Souza and drummer Bill Peterson: Bacchus (named after the Roman God of wine) was born. In 1970 they opened for Cactus and Free and after the good response, they recorded their first 45, the fab hard-rock sounding 'Carry My Load.' From there they went on tour with Grand Funk Railroad around the state. After more 45 releases, Bacchus was also the opening act for Lynyrd Skynyrd, BB King, The Outlaws, Redbone, Edgar Winter, and Ted Nugent. They also had the privilege to open a Florida concert for Mahavishnu Orchestra and appeared on the free stage at the Atlanta Pop Festival, just before Grand Funk Railroad on the main stage. Famous also in the recent years for appearing on one the famous 'Brown Acid' volumes, a vinyl comp of their complete output was long overdue. Here it is. PLAY LOUD! Groovy flute by Bernard Wystraëte plus heavy bass, drums (by André Ceccarelli), violin, occasional fuzz-wah guitar and Urszula Dudziak-like scat vocals. In 1970, the AFA label asked flautist Bernard Wystraëte to register a "pop" album after the worldwide impact of progressive bands like Aphrodite's Child and Jethro Tull. Bernard recruited some of his friends who were professional musicians and Structure was born. He wrote a collection of songs influenced by progressive rock, jazz and Brazilian music. The 'Pop Music' album was recorded live in the studio to give a "live show" feel. It was released later that year housed in a superb psychedelic sleeve. The band even toured across France and several countries at the same time that Bernard and other Structure members started backing famous French singer Marie Laforêt live. After the good reception given to the album, another label asked Bernard to record a Structure 45. 'Dilatation'/'Scale' was released under a new line-up. She was invited by avant-garde Italian composer Francesco Paolo Paladino in order to record the remarkable 'Under An Endless Sky' album. There are no guitars, bass, drums or other technological devilry, but only virtual sounds (sometimes without even keyboards) upon which are grafted some acoustic interventions: violins and violas, woodwinds and percussion entrusted to excellent musicians such as Italians Riccardo Sinigaglia, Angelo Contini, Stefano Scala, Trio Cavallazzi and Gino Ape, and English folker Sean Breadin. Bernard recruited some of his friends who were professional musicians and Structure was born. He wrote a collection of songs influenced by progressive rock, jazz and Brazilian music. The 'Pop Music' album was recorded live in the studio to give a "live show" feel. It was released later that year housed in a superb psychedelic sleeve. Cos in the following three tracks Mr. Hans and Mr. Patrick transport their garage-punk and early '80s hardcore roots to the early post-Altamont era, where it became clear that a world of love and peace was an illusion, friendly hippies got replaced by bad ass motorcycle gangs, and colourful lsd-trips turned into heroin fueled misery. The popularity of the single saw The Summer Suns become a more permanent fixture in the Perth scene, 1986-1996, releasing records on most of the world's best indie labels including Easter, Waterfront, Bus Stop, Parasol, Spring and Get Hip. Although plying his songwriting trade in other bands and other genres, Williams never entirely gave up on his love for melodic music. After some time playing sadcore then garage rock he formed The Love Letters with Katherine Browne, playing music very much like The Summer Suns unplugged. In 2013 with a stockpile of tunes he began working simultaneously on a new Summer Suns album and a Love Letters album with different versions of some songs to appear on both records. With Williams playing most of the instruments and producing the recordings, time took its toll. Katherine Browne quit to concentrate on her real career leaving Williams to decide what to do with the two projects. With about 30 recordings to choose from he decided to edit it down to a single project under The Summer Suns banner. Thus 'Eulalie' was born and self released in a limited vinyl edition of 100 copies, each numbered and with a unique vinyl colour and photo taken by Kim. With literally no publicity at all the album quickly sold out. With demand for this now impossible to find folk rock/power pop LP increasing over the years, Hanky Panky Records is set to reissue it in a limited edition of 250 copies with improved detailed cover and 2 bonus tracks! Originally an early death/doom metal band, having released their first material in 1992, the band developed a romantic, violin-led sound which partially mirrored (but mostly coincidentally existed with) the classic Peaceville sound. Releasing two gothic/death/doom metal albums in the early-to-mid 1990s (check out 'Solar Lovers'), Celestial Season abruptly shifted to a more stoner-oriented sound, casting off their original doom metal sound for half a decade before folding in 2001. The year 2011 brought about Celestial Season's surprise return, but the past eleven years have only given birth to one album. 2020's 'The Secret Teachings,' which brought about the return of their original, sad sound. In 2022, we are blessed with yet another Celestial Season album. 'Mysterium I' is a further continuation of that classic 1990s gloomy doom sound. This 3CD set includes the 3 albums recorded live at Roadburn festival in 2010, 2012 and 2014. On this triple-set release we get a neat showcase of the three, four and five person line-ups of Bong, the core trio of Dave Terry and two Mikes, Smith and Vest, with Benjamin Freeth joining on Shahi Baaja in 2012 (those unmistakable twinkling zoings on 'Dreams Of Mana Yood Sushai'), and then Pete Ryde a further addition on guitar for 2014. Mike Vest's guitar is all intense dread psych, from endless dirt krssshhhh, to a hurricane wheeling and whirling churn. 'Trees Grass And Stone' is stunning, starting with fully ten minutes of just pure wild electricity, like you've plugged your mind into the thick fuzz cable. There's unhinged insect skittering at the end of 'Dreams Of Mana Yood Sushai', and great crackling thunder shards of guitar are thrown down at the end of 'Onward To Perdondaris'. Across the band's releases, Vest seems to be assisting Dave Terry's bass in a shadowy heist where they've constructed some sort of occult sonic drill which just grinds and grinds away, threatening to break into the abyssal vaults of the universe's sonic consciousness.

'DANCING MOGADISHU - SOMALIA 1972-1991' - After being blown away by a few tunes -probably just as you will be after listening to this- Samy Ben Redjeb travelled to the infamous capital city of Somalia in November of 2016, making Analog Africa the first music label to set foot in Mogadishu. On his arrival in Somalia Samy questioned the need for a vehicle full of armed chaperones casually toting Kalashnikovs, deemed necessary to accompany him to the radio station archive every morning, but then began rifling through piles of cassettes and listening to reel-to-reel tapes in the dusty archives of Radio Mogadishu, looking for music that 'swam against the current'. The stars were aligned: an uncovered and unmarked pile of discarded recordings was discovered in a cluttered corner of the building. Colonel Abshir -the senior employee and protector of Radio Mogadishu's archives- clarified that the pile consisted mostly of music nobody had manage to identify, or music he described as being 'mainly instrumental and strange music'. At the words 'strange music' Samy was hooked, the return flight to Tunisia was cancelled. The pile turned out to be a cornucopia of different sounds: radio jingles, background music and interludes for radio programmes, television shows and theatre plays. There were also a good number of disco tunes, some had been stripped of their lyrics, the interesting parts had been recorded multiple times then cut, taped together and spliced into a long groovy instrumental loop. Over the next three weeks, often in watermelon-, grapefruit-juice and shisha-fuelled night-time sessions behind the fortified walls of Radio Mogadishu, Samy and the archive staff put together 'Mogadisco: Dancing Mogadishu - Somalia 1972-1991'. 'Mogadisco' was not Analog Africa's easiest project. Tracking down the musicians -often in exile in the diaspora- to interview them and gather anecdotes of golden-era Mogadishu has been an undertaking that took three years. Tales of Dur-Dur Band's kidnapping, movie soundtracks recorded in the basements of hotels, musicians getting electrocuted on stage, others jumping from one band to another under dramatic circumstances, and soul singers competing against each other, are all stories included in the massive booklet that accompanies the compilation - adorned with no less then 50 pictures from the '70s and '80s. As Colonel Abshir Hashi Ali, chief don at the Radio Mogadishu archive -someone who once wrestled a bomber wielding an unpinned hand-grenade to the floor- put it: "I have dedicated my life to this place. A piece of tangible vinyl with often transient and evanescent content; sound appearing and fading such that you can lose certainty as to whether it emanates from the record or from out in the street. The music measured and atmospheric; a rural psychedelia on the cusp between folk and country; gnomic lyrics, meditating on loss as a stage in the cycle of nature, with a strong impression of a patient, unforced gestation. The sleeve has a stark beauty; the front being a fine piece of John Hurford frontier art, akin to that of Jeff Horsey's 'Rattlesnakes And Heartstrings.' There is no legend and nothing on the spine either. The back shows two rustic, bearded gentlemen with small guitar, a pump organ, and an ancient zither; there are song titles but they're barely decipherable. This pair are Jens Unossun and Arne Jonasson. Jens is a founder member of The Spacious Mind, a notable Swedish ensemble who, for nigh on three decades, have been releasing memorable psychedelic music. They famously accompanied Tom Rapp, of Pearls Before Swine, at his Terrastock appearance in London in 1999. Jonasson is a regular collaborator with Jens on such side-trips as The Holy River Family Band. They're the sole performers on six of the eight tracks here; Jens singing and playing keyboards, Arne on various stringed instruments, and both adding percussion. The other two - 'Sweet Home Blues (Redneck Dumbfuck Blues)' and 'Green Was The Day (Bottom Of The Well)' - see them joined by the Head Country Hoedowners - Snosun and Aarnson Jones, Black Owl, and Dave Hell - and the presence of these acclaimed purveyors of outlaw mutation boogie signal changes in mood.
