0529128 LP BONF 20 7427252014709 BONFIRE	CHILLUM - CHILLUM Fully licensed, limited to 500 copies. The sole self-titled album by English progsters Chillum was in fact an offshoot project of famous psychedelic icon Second Hand. They shared three members - George Hart, Ken Elliott, Kieran O'Connor - with the former band, giving birth to a more experimental act. The record originally saw the light of day in 1971. The LP was supposed to be the third Second Hand album, but apparently the members decided to change the band's name. Their heavy swinging approach was in the end similar to such contemporary luminaries like Atomic Rooster, Leaf Hound, and Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come. A jam album with lots of roaring percussion and an impressive organ to make big sound. Combining their early recordings, including the 1979 'Flesh As Property' EP and 1980 'State Of Emergency' EP, 'Courts Or Wars' takes its title from the first song that served as the pair's introduction to listeners. Right from the beginning you are enveloped in what The Quietus described as, "a monochrome worldview morbidly obsessed with the dehumanizing effect of war, nuclear weapon annihilation, and the fracturing and negation of the self within an increasingly distorted and technologically mediated society." Where The Sound fit snugly next to Echo And The Bunnymen, Second Layer had far more in common with the pulsing menace of Suicide. Borland's familiar vocals and sense of melody hold a connection to his other songwriting, but within these songs he takes far more risks in his guitar work to suit the subject matter. What really drives everything is Bailey's propulsive bedrock, formed by his homemade pre-drum machine rhythm generators, creating an innovative mechanical approach that somehow inserts a jittery neurotic touch that merges perfectly with his electronic layers driven by the wasp synth, various unique effects boxes or tape loops. Adding in Bailey's own distinctive bass playing, the results feel personal and experimental, pointed and harsh, while also bracingly accessible and covered in dark manic energy. 'Smog' is an electro-acoustic work in five parts of equal duration (18 minutes) divided into several variable sequences. It was composed as the music score for the ballet 'Smog' commissioned by the choreographer Michel Caserta. The work was premiered on October 18, 1974, by the Ensemble chorégraphique de Vitry at the Théâtre Jean-Vilar in Vitry-sur-Seine (Paris). As a musical work, it has acquired over the years the scope of a legend in the electro-acoustic-avant-garde scene, for its richness and value as a composition, the composer's ingenious use of the means available at the time regarding the production of electric sounds, and their combination with natural sounds, as well as for the four-channel recording and live performance. A new sound mastering and artwork was developed for this release in collaboration with the composer, whose liner notes are included on the cover. The title 'Smog' obviously refers to the famous London fog but, according to Mr. Caserta, it is more precisely "a fleeting and fragmented vision of things, events and characters, in bright, colored or opaque spaces. Visions truncated, mutilated, lost and found in a constant movement of shapes, rhythms and colors". If the first part of the above reflection evokes the work of the choreographer, that of the composer seems directly concerned with the second part, and we can imagine that it was a precious indicator for the composer who tells us, "imagine a music produced in a spatio-temporal context, the creation of which is possible thanks to the multiple simultaneous functions of three sectors: psyche-imagination, bodily pulsations and pictorial visions. The continual war evolving through these «multiple functions» creates the right preconditions to allow music spring from them, like an image of real life on earth, an event of a borderline expression emerging at a given moment in time and space." Noise Cluster is an industrial/noise project by Flavio Derbekannte and Arianna Degni Lombardo of DBPIT and XxeNa, started June, 2016. 'Medusa, Who Else?' looks afresh at the ancient myth from the modern perspective which depicts the only attractive Gorgon not as the evil creature she is traditionally portrayed to be, but as a victim whose narrative was twisted to better serve a patriarchal culture. Those who dared to look into her eyes were turned to stone because of the coldness in their own hearts, but Medusa was blamed for the stony fortress constructed around their own souls. Her hair was turned into magical snakes by the goddess Athena as a punishment for having been raped by the god Poseidon in her temple. Her gaze was known to turn men into stone and only by a cunning trick did Perseus manage to behead her, during a supposedly suicide mission the king Polydectes had sent him on, in order to get rid of him and have a free hand with his mother. In conclusion, this new musical interpretation illustrates how hers is the story of a witch-hunt, a case of victim blaming where the real perpetrator is condoned, thus turning her into a symbol of all the victims of sexual abuse. Please note this this is an environment-friendly CD-free release to help reduce plastic pollution. You will get an A3 art poster printed on high-quality recycled paper which comes in a fine black paper envelope with an illustrated seal and a Bandcamp download code. Limited to 100 copies only.

Noteworthy is the romantic love theme 'Addio Sera,' in an instrumental version for guitar, piano and orchestra, played both by a female voice and, in the end credits, by Rascel himself. For 'La Supplente,' on the other hand, Renato Rascel has composed a pleasant score with Latin rhythms, which alternates happy moments with other tender and romantic ones, but there is no shortage of suspense pieces and baroque music for choir and rhythms that keep us nailed to listening to a full 74 minutes and 24 seconds. The record was originally published in 1993, but the first session dates back to 1979. It was around this time that Earl 'Chinna' Smith (of The Wailers and Soul Syndicate fame) approached the singer with the idea of re-making some Curtis Mayfield songs. 'We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue' was the first track generated during the meeting, followed after a couple of years by 'Move On Up.' Devon Russell's birthplace and date are as much a mystery as the gaping holes in his recording career. He began with the Tartans, a mid-'60s rock steady vocal group comprised of himself, Prince Lincoln Thompson, Linbergh "Preps" Lewis and Cedric Myton; they disbanded after their 1967 hit 'Dance All Night' (Federal Records). It is no mystery Jamaicans loved Motown soul, but this tribute was an epiphany on its own. With a crew comprised of eclectic master drummer Sly Dunbar, the album was completed at the Leggo Studios in Kingston, Jamaica with The Firehouse Crew on board. This 20-track compilation of 1978-'79 material collects a mix of studio and unreleased live recordings in clear and powerful quality. Empire was an offshoot of the legendary UK punk band Generation X. Originally released in 1981 and now reissued on vinyl, 'Expensive Sound' had a huge influence on Washington D.C.'s '80s hardcore scene and the UK's neo-psychedelic movement of a few years later. This LP may somehow be regarded as a missing link between new wave, post-punk and grunge.
