Long - awaited, the LP sold out almost immediately, and already changes hands for three - figure amounts. An'archives is pleased to announce a CD edition of Paradise Of Delusion, making this music accessible again to a wider audience. Drawn from a 2001 performance at Binspark, Nishi Ogikubo, Paradise Of Delusion is gorgeous and otherworldly. Shizuka first came to wider attention at roughly the same time as their peers in the Japanese undergro und - during the early nineties, when people started to get wise to the surprisingly wide - ranging post - psychedelic sounds from the PSF label. But even by the standards of their closest peers, aesthetically speaking - Fushitsusha (with whom they shared two m embers, Maki Miura and Jun Kosugi), Kousokuya, Chè - SHIZU - Shizuka were mysterious. Led by the late Shizuka herself, a guitarist, vocalist, song writer, and doll maker, with her husband Miura, a devastatingly powerful guitar slinger, their songs were pote nt and seductive. Shizuka's slow iterations of simple chord changes, with her psalmic vocal melodies over the top, suggest an existential exhaustion, often torn asunder by a soaring surge of guitar from Miura. 'BARBARIC, CRUDE & PRIMITIVE 1975-1979' - Greg Prevost played in different bands before forming the Chesterfield Kings. Only one of them, the Distorted Levels, released a 7" in 1978. But there were many more mystery bands where Greg played with, such as Mr. Electro and The Void, The Cutdowns and Mr. Electro and the Psychedelic Burnouts. They all recorded profusely, but most master tapes eventually got lost for some reason, but some of them have been retreived. Here is a selection of the material: all demos, all previously unreleased, plus the Distorted Levels 7", as well as five tracks recorded by early Chesterfield Kings line-ups from 1978-79. Their oddball 1980 album on Owl Records with 10 enthusiastic raunchy lo-fi cuts is one of the definitive punk rock mystery albums out there sold for absurd prices. The songs of the album have been traded on DIY cassette compilations for ages but very rarely you met someone who had the actual record. The relentless teenage symphonies on the platter deal about being a Rokker having to put up with all the wankers out there, tall sugar girls and punk rock themes like anger in classroom, being disconnected or having the rock fever. The records alltime outright überhit 'Who's A Punk? Your Mother!' is the bizzare portrayal of the American middle class "happy family" in the '70s. Listening to these hymns no one would ever think that Rokker actually had two "careers" up their sleeves in parallel: A country'n'blues band in the bright light of day and a fierce punk rock band by night. This double burden took its toll somewhen in the early '80s and Rokker passed over into the happy hunting grounds. A fate shared with so many great bands of the '70s and '80s. Reissue of this rare and unusually dreamy electronic ambient new age album. Originally created and released in a small edition in Japan back in 1987 by the mysterious musician/magician Shiho. 'The Body Is A Message Of The Universe' features floating shimmering synthesizer textures. It's unique and extra ordinarily serene with shifting tone colors and spatial textures bringing the listener to a special magic place. Although Shiho Yabuki continued her career in Japan, both as a musician and magician and became a pioneer of healing music in Asia, for most western listeners it was like Shiho was one of those mysterious artists who puts out an album and then is never heard from again. This is unfortunate, and something Subliminal Sounds hope to rectify. (2LP) 'FRÄLST!: SWEDISH CHRISTIAN GROOVES 1969-1979' - This 2LP album collection presents some of the best and unique music that could be found on rare records released by the Swedish Christian communities between 1969-1979. Between doubt and faith, there was way out pop, gospel, funk, heavy rock and psychedelic sounds with wah-wah fuzz guitars and conga rhythms. The common determinator: to spread the Christian message through music. Several of these cuts are from ultra-rare records that are known only to collectors, while others are from records so obscure that only a few copies are known to exist. One can compare some of the musical expressions of the Swedish Free Churches with the burgeoning Swedish "progg" music movement of the time. They share the same experimental musical moods, lyrical messages about love and community, justice, and international solidarity, but the recordings presented here also incorporate the Holy Trinity. Like the man it praised, much of this music was misunderstood in its time.
