For the first (self-titled) album, however, a singer was hired under pressure from the record company Roadrunner Records. 'Karma To Burn' was released in 1997. Shortly thereafter, the band separated from singer Jason Jarosz, who could be heard on the album. But in 1994 Karma To Burn recorded songs with singer Jim Davison. The three tracks that were recorded in Kentucky had long been a mystery whether they even existed. After 27 years in the vault of guitarist Will Mecum, they are finally published in full on the B-side of the album 'Thee Rabbit Hole'. In 1993 Karma to Burn recorded their first demo recordings in West Virginia as well as the Kentucky recordings in 1994 with the original line-up Mecum, Limbaugh, Mullins. The 4 tracks of the demo, which were released as demo tape in 1995, can now also be heard for the first time on vinyl on the album 'Thee Rabbit Hole'. The entire demo recordings from the early days of Karma To Burn have been remastered by John McBain (former guitarist of Monster Magnet). The house and yard graphic designer from Karma To Burn, Alexander von Wieding, is responsible for the artwork and has raised the old demo artwork from 1993 to a modern, new level. The debut album 'Soma' (the sacred drink of the Vedic cult) was born from a day of studio improvisation which also involved Laura Storchi, a Julie's Haircut founding member, Claudio Luppi and Pierluigi Lanzillotta, the latter two engaged in various projects including the psych-rock outfit Pip Carter Lighter Maker. As invigorated by the properties of the Soma itself - the nectar that brings health and immortality - our four "cantors" unleash their minds to give life to an initiatory journey in deep communion with nature. From the thrilling Fourth-World plots of 'Drinking At The River Of Light', which hides jazz-veins inspired by the Miles Davis of 'He Loved Him Madly' and 'In A Silent Way', to the psychedelic drifts of 'Spirit Animal', in which horn players Silvia Orlandini and Paolo Campani also participate playing their winds, Muni manage to make spaces and silences resonate, transforming music into an imaginary landscape. Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. The group was formed in 1979 in Placentia, a small town close to Fullerton and Anaheim, by front man Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Soto on bass, and Scott Miller on drums. That early line-up recorded the classic version of 'Bloodstains' in 1979 as a demo produced by Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). This is a highly limited one off pressing of the first documented recordings of SOAC featuring the original line up: Marlon King (guitars), Nick Hannon (bass), Stevie B (drums) and Blake (effects). The release reflects on the post metal progressive instrumental roots of the band in the original form. With new artwork from long term art collaborator Seldon Hunt (Neurosis, ISIS, Pelican) and a reversible sleeve print featuring the new 2021 artwork and the original 2004 artwork. This release has been remastered by John McBain (Desert Sessions, Monster Magnet). Limited to 100 copies on black vinyl.

"The skeletal composition and the relentless exploitation of synthesizers, electric guitars and '80s effect racks resulted in a spiced up psychedelic brew known as Edo Funk!" It was in Benin City, in the heart of Nigeria, that a new hybrid of intoxicating highlife music known as Edo Funk was born. It first emerged in the late 1970s when a group of musicians began to experiment with different ways of integrating elements from their native Edo culture and fusing them with new sound effects coming from West Africa's night-clubs. Unlike the rather polished 1980s Nigerian disco productions coming out of the international metropolis of Lagos, Edo Funk was raw and reduced to its bare minimum. Someone was needed to channel this energy into a distinctive sound and Sir Victor Uwaifo appeared like a mad professor with his Joromi studio. Uwaifo took the skeletal structure of Edo music and relentless began fusing them with synthesizers, electric guitars and '80s effect racks which resulted in some of the most outstanding Edo recordings ever made. An explosive spiced up brew with an odd psychedelic note dubbed "Edo Funk". That's the sound you'll be discovering in the first volume of the 'Edo Funk Explosion' series which focusses on the genre's greatest originators: Osayomore Joseph, Akaba Man, and Sir Victor Uwaifo. Osayomore Joseph was one of the first musicians to bring the sound of the flute into the horn-dominated world of highlife, and his skills as a performer made him a fixture on the Lagos scene. When he returned to settle in Benin City in the mid 1970s - at the invitation of the royal family - he devoted himself to the modernisation and electrification of Edo music, using funk and Afro-beat as the building blocks for songs that weren't afraid to call out government corruption or confront the dark legacy of Nigeria's colonial past. Akaba Man was the philosopher king of Edo funk. Less overtly political than Osayomore Joseph and less psychedelic than Victor Uwaifo, he found the perfect medium for his message in the trance-like grooves of Edo funk. With pulsating rhythms awash in cosmic synth-fields and lyrics that express a deep personal vision, he found great success at the dawn of the 1980s as one of Benin City's most persuasive ambassadors of funky highlife. Victor Uwaifo was already a star in Nigeria when he built the legendary Joromi studios in his hometown of Benin City in 1978. Using his unique guitar style as the mediating force between West-African highlife and the traditional rhythms and melodies of Edo music, he had scored several hits in the early seventies, but once he had his own sixteen-track facility he was able to pursue his obsession with the synesthetic possibilities of pure sound, adding squelchy synths, swirling organs and studio effects to hypnotic basslines and raw grooves. 'Exhibition Of A Dream'(L'Exposition D'Un Rêve) is formed of twelve dreams interpreted as songs. Exploded in time, these are played as temporary and evolving patterns of shapes and forms in an otherwise empty gallery following the drawings of mandalas. 'Exhibition Of A Dream' highlights the complex beauty of how to generate a dream in the mind of the spectator. A shared experience to be lived within our own personal inner space, these remastered dreams are an invitation to listen to a sensitive architecture of words and music. Created 2017, recorded both in public and in private in the amphitheatres and the garden of the Fundaçao Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, and in Einheit's own studio Steinschlag. The dreamers were Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Lee Ranaldo, Émilie Pitoiset, Susan Stenger, Susie Green, David Link, Pierre Paulin, Alexandre Estrela, Tim Etchells, Gabriel Abrantes, FM Einheit and Genesis Breyer P-Orridge. Originally released as a 3LP set, and only ever available at the 2018 exhibition at the Foundation. Presented in a 6-panel matt-laminate double digipak.

Judging by the quality of their respective solo outings for the label, the fact that Russell's band includes bassist Henry Franklin and guitarist Calvin Keys bodes very, very well for the quality of this record. And indeed, 'Talk To My Lady' represents a sterling stylistic leap for Russell from his 'New Direction' album, which was the first release issued on Black Jazz; here, he's leading an electric band instead of the basic piano trio format found on the former record, and playing a number of original, soul jazz compositions like 'Get Down' and the title tune. As for the covers, both 'Me And Mrs. Jones' and 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life' are heartfelt renditions given a little extra bounce by Russell's ivory tickling and Franklin's expressive bass playing in particular, while the version of 'My Favorite Things' goes way out beyond what John Coltrane played on his original Atlantic studio version. Beherit's first masterpiece, the hypnotic 'Drawing Down The Moon', was unleashed in late 1993. However, by the release of this black metal classic, Laiho had drawn colossal interest in electronic music, and Beherit was soon turned into Laiho's solo project. During the years 1994-1995, two characteristic studio recordings, namely 'H418ov21.C' and 'Electric Doom Synthesis', were published under Beherit's name. Experimental guitar-driven metallic assault was gone for good, as these records contained designated doses of ritualistic electronic music. Enter 1999. Helsinki-based Spinefarm Records, established in 1990 and mainly responsible for building up the international Finnish music scene during the last decade of the millennium, announced the signing of a new artist by the name of Suuri Shamaani - The Great Shaman in English. Behind Suuri Shamaani's minimalistic musical landscape was - who else? - Marko Laiho. - Beherit's widespread discography travels from relentless black metal to dark ambient and beyond. So, in some other time and space, Suuri Shamaani's record "Mysteerien maailma" - "The World Of Mysteries" in English - could have been released under Beherit's wings.
