 BURNING WORLD
35007 - PHASE V
35007 is the code name for a projectile with a unique sound. Ranging from firm grooves drenched in multiple layers of sound and hypnotic riffs to flowing soundscapes. A fine combination of past and future in influences and technique. This sound has been captured on the very well-received albums "Especially for You" - 1994 (remastered and rereleased in '99) and "35007" - 1997, released exactly 50 years after Chuck Yeager's first sonic boom. These albums contain instrumental as well as tracks with vocals. The 10" / CDM "Sea of Tranquillity" - 2001, marked the appearance of 35007 MARK IV as well as the shift to even more hypnotic instrumental terrain. It goes beyond the conventional rock formula and astonished critics and audience. It was followed in 2002 by the fully instrumental sound track "Liquid", which continued to expand the boundaries of their sonic universe. The album contains 4 voluminous tracks which take the listener on a surprising and sometimes unexpected journey. On the latest release, "Phase V", 35007 continue the fully instrumental journey, this time leading into more abstract terrain, led by the roman philosopher Boethius (480-526) who stated that "music is mathematics made audible". With the digit 5 hovering predominantly, the album is about numbers and sounds. No words, no images. The new album has already been nicknamed "songs for the blind", appropriately "visualized" by the minimal and sensuous artwork. Without th benefit of vision, the ears seem to work much better. Phase V is an intermediate state. No physical manifestation is to be expected in the foreseeable future, only time will tell what the next phase will be. First time on vinyl ever

ALUNAH - WHITE HOARHOUND
Limited 1 LP gatefold edition in transparent green vinyl incl. vinyl bonus track. "Fans of shroom-y, stoom-y doom should absolutely flip their wigs over White Hoarhound. Though I have no prior experience with Alunah's sound other than this record, the band had no problem winning me over track to track. I went from knowing nothing about them, to becoming a big fan in an extremely short span of time. If you like this kind of hazy, mega-heavy smooth groove sound; you should consider this an essential purchase."

COLOURED BALLS - BALL POWER
A legendary underground unit from Australia's early '70s scene. Featuring Lobby Loyde (a guitar hero whose pivotal roles in beat/psych/blues rock groups The Purple Hearts, The Wild Cherries and Billy Thorp's Aztecs made him a major player down under) The Coloured Balls were one of the best and most spectacular post-garage/proto-punk groups around. One could say these guys paved the way for The Saints and Radio Birdman. Originally released in 1972.

FLOWERS MUST DIE - FLOWERS MUST DIE (2LP)
After two sold out vinyls on the Rev/Vega label, this third release is shared with the Kommun2 label. This time it's a double album, again with original artwork from painter Danilo Stankovic. The album consists of eight songs recorded over a four year period and captures FMD unique music at its best. From the opening of "Jämfota" with its monotone trance-psych via the folk-rocker 'Spindlarnas Trad' to the Flower Travelling Band influenced 'Koket Brinner'. 'Horsagen' and Blagylta' capture them in a more stripped down style. 'Okenvandring' fills up a whole side which sounds like being arranged but is actually a lengthy improvised jam. With a name lifted from Ash Ra Temples masterpiece, you might easily assume that Flowers Must Die is just yet another band on the -stylistically rather narrow- spectrum of space rock revivalism that has grown increasingly crowded over the last decade. And you would be right, but only to a certain extent. Sure the Hawkwind and Amon Duul II influences are there and yes, there is definitely an abundance of effect pedals and improvised freak-outs. But listen beyond that and you might be able to catch the nuances. Its these nuances that inspire some listeners to come up with new genres like Doom Jazz and Oriental Hard Rock to describe FMDs musical palette. This double album is limited to 500 copies and comes housed in a gatefold sleeve and includes a full colour poster.

HENDRICKSON ROAD HOUSE - HENDRICKSON ROAD HOUSE
First vinyl reissue of legendary rare 1970 Californian psychedelic folk private pressing. Fully re-mastered sound, with lavishly illustrated/annotated insert, original front and back album sleeves, and pressed on heavyweight 180gm audiophile vinyl. Only 500 copies pressed, and sure to sell out very quickly. First release on the highly collectable Tenth Planet label for five years. Recorded to showcase the prodigious talents of teenage singer/songwriter Sue Eakins, the Hendrickson Road House album was issued in 1970 as a limited edition pressing by the Ojai-based Two:Dot studio/label. Now available on vinyl for the first time in more than forty years, this official reissue is limited to just 500 copies, pressed on audiophile 180gm vinyl. With a glossy insert featuring rare photos, interview quotes and the full Hendrickson Road House story, this is the definitive vinyl edition of a lost classic of the West Coast psychedelic folk genre. MARKS & LEBZELTER - ROCK AND OTHER FOUR LETTER WORDS
This New York based duo released their one and only LP in 1968 on Columbia Masterworks, just months after Zappa released 'Lumpy Gravy' in California. Although the 2 projects have some superficial similarity in structure, it would seem that this later LP must have been made (at least largely), without any knowledge of the Zappa masterpiece. Another reference point might be The United States Of America who also released their LP in 1968. Originally released simultaneously with Terry Riley's 'In C' and Walter Carlos' 'Switched On Bach', this new edition of Marks and Lebzelters complex 50 minute heady mix of spoken word, electronics and experimental psychedelia is taken from the master tapes and consists of a suite of 13 tracks. Where 'Lumpy Gravy' uses orchestral settings, here we have a combination of theatrical text and sung vocals by the Gregg Smith Singers, and on one track a full baptist gospel choir praising the virtues of baked beans. The core of this album though, stems from interviews conducted by J Marks for his book, also called 'Rock And Other Four Letter Words' (essentially a book of photos by Linda Eastman, soon to be McCartney, with quotes from many of the leading US and UK rock bands of the time). Included on this LP are numerous cut up and processed excerpts of these interviews with many young rock stars including Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Brian Wilson, Grace Slick etc. Add to this concoction, dense arrangements of tape loops, psychedelic rock, electronics and a huge guest list of contributors including jazz players Alan Silva, Andrew Cyrille, Roswell Rudd and Burton Greene and the scope of this project begins to be seen. Its hard to believe this is their first time in a studio, such is their confident musicality and bold handling of these varied talents. No doubt much of this is due to the helping hand of the in house engineers and John McClure who produced this, along with 100s of other recordings at CBS, including the Harry Partch records. After this album Shipen Lebzelter (1942-1986) went on to found The Trees (Community), who released a legendary Christian folk album in 1975. Marks (1930-2001) subsequently changed his name in the early 70s to Jamake Highwater, which is how he is best remembered; writing books, making documentaries and setting up his own foundation for Indian art and culture. This long overdue reissue comes in a standard sleeve with a 4 page insert that includes all the original artwork and more. Limited to 500 copies.

MONTGOMERY, ROY - MUSIC FROM THE FILM HEY BADFINGER
Here are 23 short and moody narratives, reminiscent of those by Carlos Paredes. Solo guitar music and loops from recordings he rediscovered/revisited several years ago. We've talked about how he feels they can't be altered, need to exist as they were in that time, in a skeleton form, a collection of fragments. A galaxy, or a sketch book; they all belong together.

ORESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE - (BLACK) ORESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE (2LP)
Sound Effect Records from Athens, Greece, in collaboration with Space Rock Productions in Denmark, release the debut album from the Öresund Space Collective on vinyl. This record was originally released on CD by the Transubstans label in 2006. As this release has been deleted quite some years ago, their founding member Scott Heller and Sound Effect thought that it was about time to offer this landmark of contemporary space rock once more in a specially re-mastered edition for maximum sound quality. So now here's a superb double vinyl edition, limited to 300 copies. It includes the complete jam that was called 'Falling Stardrops Explode Into Space'. This track was edited down to 15 minutes from the 24 minutes of the CD-version. A totally unreleased track called 'Star Burst Cinema' is included on Side 4 as a special vinyl-only bonus track. 200 copies on black vinyl.

SLEAZE (UK) - SLEAZE
1975 pre-Adverts LP from punk legend TV Smith. Originally released in an edition of only 50 copies. TV Smith says: "14th June, 1975. It was a studio, a proper studio -just like the ones the proper bands recorded in. At least, it was the nearest Id ever been to one and now my band Sleaze, that had so far had to make do with playing support slots at local clubs and discos- as well as the occasional 'headline' gig in local school halls - was about to record some of our songs, just like a proper band. Torquay in the mid seventies was not the easiest place and time to have a band, particularly a band that performed all its own material. The only group that anyone knew whod ever made it out of this tourist backwater in the South West of England to any kind of international success was a rock band called Wishbone Ash, and the local audiences wanted to boogie away their evenings to music like that - or live bands playing covers of Status Quo or Free - not us, with our peculiar lengthy songs that sounded like a crossover between glam à la Bowie or Cockney Rebel and prog bands like Genesis or Van Der Graaf Generator. Around these parts, such pretensions were frowned upon. But here we were, determined to get our music down on record whether anyone was interested or not. We set up our equipment, the engineer placed the microphones and recorded a few minutes to check the sound, then we put the whole album straight onto tape, song by song, playing live with no overdubs. Two hours recording time, twenty pounds for the lot, plus another half hour for the engineers time splicing the tracks together, and the price of the two reels of tape. All in all, the Sleaze album cost the princely sum of 38.88. We went on to press up fifty copies onto vinyl, most of which we gave away to family and friends. This record is the sound of that rebellion trying to find its way, the door creaking against its hinges - a year before punk exploded, the door finally blew open and the music scene changed forever.

BRAINCHILD - HEALING OF THE LUNATIC OWL (UK)
This progressive rock septet from Somerset and recorded its sole album in London in March 1970. Produced by Lennie Wright (drummer with the Web and Samurai), it originally appeared that October, after which it immediately sank without a trace. In recent years, however, it has been acclaimed as one of the best prog obscurities of its time, with its tight jamming and incisive brass arrangements, earning favorable comparisons to Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Its presented here with a rare non-album bonus track.

Long pieces of hypnotic free form rock hysteria with heavily fuzzed electric guitar à la Faust; Damo Suzuki-like vocal gibber; rhythm courtesy of sleigh bells, tambourine, bass drum and other whackadoo; hard-blown harmonica sludge; and plenty of masterful keeko-bleeko: flute, zither, mandolin, acoustic guitar and synth, tape loops, electronics, environmental sounds, backwards tapes and the hysterical laughter of Stan Laurel.

FINCH - MYTHOLOGY (3CD)
Founded in 1974 and derived from the legendary group Q65, Finch is still regarded as one of the most leading of the second generation Dutch bands. Complex and harmonic orientated long compositions with lots of space for guitar and synthesizers fill up three albums and one seven inch. Especially the live reputation of Finch is often remembered as legendary. Nuff said for the ones who were eyewitnesses. Others can now enjoy 'Mythology', a 26 tracks 3CD deluxe set that not only relaunches their three studio-albums and their Colossus-7-inch, but also presents three recently unearthed pieces that were recorded by Dutch radio station VPRO. 'Paradoxical Moods', 'Pisces' and 'Register Magister' capture Finch on stage shortly after the release of their debut, featuring the first definitive line up of Joop van Nimwegen (guitar), Peter Vink (bass), Cleem Determeijer (keyboards) and Beer Klaasse (drums). The recordings were made in December 1975 in De Tagrijn in Hilversum. Also included is 'Necronomicon', a live-only track recorded in late 1976 in Berkel En Rodenrijs. The set is completed by eight demos from the pre-production of Finch third album 'Galleons Of Passion'. The 3CD-set 'Mythology' is housed in a deluxe digipack cover full of rare photos, memorabilia and the complete Finch story featuring exclusive interviews with the band members. The recordings have been exclusively remastered from the original mastertapes. Chapter 1: 1. Register Magister 9:18 2. A Bridge To Alice 13:10 3. Pisces 9:27 4. Paradoxical Moods 10:41 5. A very rare album by a German power trio from Hamburg. This gem of a heavy rock record was recorded by Reaction before they disappeared into the mists of time. Nine pieces of sludge heavy blues-rock-boogie in the finest early 1970s tradition, with the stand outs being 'Mistreated' and 'Keep On Trying'.

LAUGHING EYE WEEPING EYE - WHERE SNAKES & SEERS GO
Laughing Eye Weeping Eye performances are akin to watching a vaudevillian storyteller in a medieval church with gospel singers, gnomes, and goats. Bandmates in this lifetime and gurus in another, Chicagoans Rebecca Schoenecker and Patrick Holbrook create a multifaceted experience that incorporates harmonium, looped vocals, toy instruments, and effects. Inspired by folk and spiritual music, LEWE performances induce sing-along incantations that often result in participants to shake and sing in tongues. LEWE has toured nationally since 2010, sharing bills with bands such as Arrington de Dionyso, Spires That in the Sunset Rise, The Cherry Blossoms, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Fursaxa, Weyes Blood, Circuit des Yeux, and others.

SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE - (PART 1) ANCIENT PATIENCE WILLS IT AGAIN
Part 1 of their 2012 release. The fifth full length from Illinois psych-folk auteurs, Spires That in the Sunset Rise. Founded in Decatur, IL, Spires was "once... a collaboration of up to five women from Decatur", but Hairy Spider Legs indicates that their latest should be construed as a "more intimate expression of long time members Kathleen Baird and Taralie Peterson". With four years between it and the band's fourth album, Curse the Traced Bird, some stylistic drift is to be expected, but the reduction in participants seems at least superficially connected to the album's more oblique, introspective strings and somber vocals. Having said that, album's full character is most readily defined by its eclectic ancillary instruments, endless in diversity; "harmonium, guitar... bowed psaltery... autoharp..." and even an "mbira", according to Hairy Spider Legs, making it a more easily rewarding listen to casual consumers.

FUTURE PRIMITIVES - THIS HERE'S (BLACK)
Introducing the wild sounds of The Future Primitives, a psychedelic garage rock three-piece from Cape Town, South Africa. Formed in late 2011, they set out to experiment with sounds from the past and the present. Drawing influence from early rock n roll, 60s garage and first era psychedelic groups, The Future Primitives are inspired by the pioneers, misfits and unknowns alike. Their name hints at a contradiction that can be heard in their sound as the recordings are stripped of all technological advances, using beaten analogue gear and minimal microphone setups to record live to tape. Tracklist: TRACKLIST: SIDE A 1. Instro 2. I'm The Sound 3. Fall To Pieces 4. Sea Of Words 5. Try On Something That's Really You 6. Open Up Your Door SIDE B 1. Open Up Again 2. Little Doll 3. MISSING LINKS - MISSING LINKS + THE LINKS UNCHAINED 7" EP
Though they have different approaches, a common thread runs through Australian bands like the Saints, Hoodoo Gurus, Midnight Oil and AC/DC: an aggressive, take-no-prisoners posture designed to grab audiences by the throat. This direct crowd-band interaction is essential on the rough-and-tumble Oz pub circuit, where if the group doesnt deliver the goods, theyre likely to go down in a hail of lager cans. Whatever it is that puts the raw in Antipodean rawk, its been there from the beginning. For proof, check the wild, outrageous sounds of the Missing Links. Formed in Sydney in 1964, a series of personnel changes eventually replaced all original members, leaving vocalist Andy Anderson, guitarist Doug Ford, drummer Baden Hutchens, bassist Ian Thomas and Chris Gray on keyboards. It was this lineup that recorded the bands 1965 debut album, The Missing Links. An instant garage punk classic, The Missing Links took the UK R&B combo model and drenched it in attitude and feedback, making contemporaries like the Troggs and the Who appear tame by comparison. The sonic guitar meltdown at the end of "Youre Drivin Me Insane" presages Jimmy Pages Zeppelin liftoff by a full three years while "Wild About You" defies description, except to say it still sounds shocking nearly 50 years on. This slice of vigorous vinyl became one of the most prized acquisitions for garage punk fans the world over, with each successive wave of Down Under musical malcontents spreading its legend. The globe-trotting team at Sundazed has now restored the album in all its magnificent MONO glory! What more could you want? Well, how about the IMPOSSIBLY rare EP, The Links Unchained, featuring four more cuts of mid-Sixties madness!?! For a limited time, Sundazed is offering both of these audacious aural artifacts in one convenient package! TRACK LIST: LP TRACKS: 1. Wild About You 2. Hobo Man 3. Bald-Headed Woman 4. Not To Bother Me 5. Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut 6. Some Kinda Fun 7. You're Drivin' Me Insane 8. Nervous Breakdown 9. Speak No Evil 10. On The Road Again 11. All I Want 12. Htuom Tuhs. 7" EP TRACKS: 1. I'll Go Crazy 2. Don't Give Me No Friction 3. One More Time 4. Wooly Bully.

BLACK IDEALS - THE FIELD
Self-released single-sided LP, limited to 328 copies. Comes in large Crass-style poster cover. Punk band Black Ideals (Mávra Idaniká) were formed in Athens, Greece in the summer of 1983. The original line-up comprised Pavlos Avouris (voice), Christos Vougas (bass), Petros Magoulas (guitar), Stathis Salvanos (drums). From January 1984 they carried on as a trio (omitting the guitar), until the Spring of 1985, when a second bassist was added (Maria Vassilakis). They played two gigs (Megara, 13/1/85; Patissia Students' Hostel, Athens, 27/4/85) and published two fanzines ('Why', 'Lauvepression') on their own Isobia Nárkh label (this LP is nr. 003 on this label). They self-released a cassette in 1985. Their songs were included on three compilation cassettes ('Instead Of A Magazine', US, 1984; 'S2D - Sous Deux Dictatures', France, 1985; 'Ground Zero', West Germany, 1985). The last rehearsals took place in the summer of 1985.

AUDREY HORNE - YOUNGBLOOD (2LP)
Limited edition DLP gatefold + vinyl exclusive track + limited CD (clear sleeve) on clear vinyl. Limited to 400 Copies. With their first three albums - praised by fans and critics alike - AUDREY HORNE positioned themselves in the premier league of rock! Furthermore, the band has shown that honest and hand-made music is still more than popular. The fourth album "Youngblood" follows this tradition and presents the Norwegian hard rock quartet full of fresh energy and a truthful love of playing. Songs like "Redemption Blues", "Straight Into Your Grave" or "There Goes a Lady" not only live up to the numerous AUDREY HORNE classics, but turn into irresistible tunes with catchy refrains right from the start and will stay with you for a long time. The great production provides the finishing touches and presents the listener with a warm sound that differs tremendously from the soulless plastic productions of this day and age. "Youngblood" is an excellent and sweeping Hard Rock album full of soul and without a doubt the highlight in the discography of AUDREY HORNE!

URIAH HEEP - SEA OF LIGHT
On 1995's Sea Of Light, Uriah Heep went back to try and regain the magic of the early '70s. And here, the band do regain the spirit and quality of their classic albums. There's a bit of everything here for the old Heep fan from the opening metal chords of "Against The Odds" , to the progressive epic ballad "Love In silence", to the brilliant acoustic ballad that closes this disc "Dream On" -- Heep show that they are not 'dinosaurs' of the 70s, but rather a very underrated band that still has lots of new great music to offer to fans of classic rock and HR. Sea Of Light consisting of 12 strong tunes, was the 3rd studio album by the line-up lead by original guitarist Mick Box, keyboardist Phil Lanzon, longtime drummer Lee Kerslake, bassist Trevor Bolder, and the magnificent vocals of Canadian boy Bernie Shaw.

NIGHT SINS - NEW GRAVE
Born by members of hardcore bands Salvation and Mother Of Mercy, Night Sins is the aural proof that life does not walk so dark all over Europe alone. Emerging sometime around 2011 under the oppressive skies of Philadelphia, these overcast malcontents are fitly connected to a city engrossed in shadow-soaked vices and dilapidated architecture. Not to imply that there isn't a comforting sort of gloominess in this musical malaise as Night Sins frolic down a musical path originally cut by The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox, with enough hints of Pink Turns Blue, The Mission, and other extensions into 80's darkwave to produce memorable songwriting that stands on its own. Bass and drums punch through the mist thick as thieves, guitar lines circle like falcons overhead, minimal synths street clean some of the residual dirt, and singer-songwriter Kyle Kimball's vocals confidently press through an intimate fog. There is a brilliant light in the midst of dimness, and Night Sins is carrying the torch.

ROBUST WORLDS - EMOTIONAL PLANET
Chris Rose's Robust Worlds has impressed us since first glimpse. He was actually barefoot, if you can believe that, and his set had the feel of a way more lysergic Kevin Ayers. It was freezing fucking cold and I'm pretty sure he wore a Hawaiian shirt. His debut LP is called Emotional Planet, and it's deceptively simple. Voice, guitar, some noisey shit, whatever. His playing is sick -- fluid, unforced, warm, soothed and soothing. It's a bath you don't want to exit. Seriously, if yr going to play guitar, play it like he does. With a trick in his back pocket and a Heavy Moon on his mind, Rose utilizes the sort of neo-noir narratives that you hear thru Neil Michael Hagerty, James Jackson Toth, Kurt Vile and other keen observers. Handguns, b&e, two-lane black tops, love, lust, and hard drugs. Life: summed up!

Slaves Of Chemistry is the long awaited second full length by the french melodic rock band. 64 dollar question has chosen to take more time and worked hard on every riff, every arrangement to make this new record sound exactly like they wanted. After seeing the band live on big french festival like Transmusicale, Beauregard, 24h de l'insa, and in clubs everywhere possible, lots of kids were waiting for their dose of powerfull rock. Influenced by US bands like Foo Fighters, The Bronx, Hot Water Music, Against Me... 64 dollar question recorded 10 new tracks sounding more personal than the first full lenght, darker and more complex as well. This comes in a classy matte digipack.

 SAHEL SOUNDS
VARIOUS - MUSIC FROM SAHARAN CELLPHONES 2
Music from Saharan Cellphones Volume 2 is finally on vinyl! The album draws from material from both of the first two cassettes - from hi-energy Moroccan Raï, desert ishumar guitar, Sonrai rap from Northern Mali, to yet to be named genres like "Tuareg Autotune". Production of the release was an effort in itself, involving tracking down the artists via Facebook, Youtube, and trips back to the Sahel (see previously), followed by a Kickstarter campaign to fund manufacturing costs. The music on the disc was originally collected in Kidal in 2010, tunes circulating on the unofficial "cellphone network" of Bluetooth exchanges and mp3 trades. Since then, many speculated that internet would wash over the desert rendering the peer to peer transfers of cellphone exchanges intil. Instead, a more sinister force of religious of extremists have spelled an end to cellphone music - banning any non-Koranic mp3s on cellphones. Northerners are holding their breath waiting for the sandstorm to pass. Includes extensive liner notes about the artists and tracks. Tracks: A1 Mdou Moctar - Anar A2 Mouma Bob - Imidiwane A3 Unknown Artist - Friday A4 Hasso Akote - Amidine A5 Lakal Kanaye - Soul Tamashek B1 DJ Mopo - Peguele B2 Koudede - Souveniram B3 Pheno S. - Waihidjo B4 Iba One - All (Remix) B5 Cheba Wassila - Hwa Heda.

BOHMAN, ADAM - BUNHILL ROW
In 1980, ADAM BOHMAN (MORPHOGENESIS, THE BOHMAN BROTHERS) made his first recordings using two budget cassette recorders, an ordinary trumpet, and a variety of other acoustic instruments and objects, many of which are still part of the current Bohman armory. Bunhill Row was Bohman's first complete album of material, but it and subsequent releases from the time remained in tiny cassette editions made for friends or exchanged through the mail art network. On vinyl for the first time, Paradigm Discs' hand-numbered reissue opens another window into the incredibly fruitful astral alignment that occurred over London at this time.

GERMAN SHEPHERDS - MUSIC FOR SICK QUEERS (+7")
Formed by Stephen Scheatzle and Sandy Stark (a.k.a. Mark Hutchinson), German Shepherds grew out of San Francisco's art-punk scene in the early '80s. Their first single, 'I Adore You', is a lost minimal synth nugget with an unforgettable rhythm box pattern, and their second, 'THC', showcases Starks menacing and child-like vocals. 'Music For Sick Queers' (originally released in 1985) brings together these and more beautifully disturbing songs with electronic noise reminiscent of Allen Ravenstine (Pere Ubu) and the best of The Residents, Suicide and Psychic TV. While more tracks would appear on compilations, such as Mykel Board's infamous The 'You'll Hate This Record' record, German Shepherds themselves virtually disappeared as their self-released album went out-of-print for decades. After years of searching the catacombs, Superior Viaduct finally caught up with only the surviving member, Stark, and uncovered the bands secret history growing up in Ohio. This first-time reissue comes from the original master tapes and features a special bonus 7-inch containing previously unreleased material plus archival inserts and a digital download card. "A masterpiece of minimal synth combined with experimental and noisy synth punkish elements!" -Mutant Sounds.

HOW MUCH WOOD WOULD A WOODCHUCK CHUCK IF A WOODCHU - HOW MUCH WOOD WOULD A WOODCHUCK CHUCK IF A WO
How Much Wood Would A Woodchuck Chuck If A Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood? is a trio from Turin, Italy consisting of Gher, Coccolo and Iside. They play guitars, bass, tapes and reverbs and throw in some voices. They love wood stumps, that's where the name came from. Now I know youre thinking it's a funny name but believe me when I say it makes perfectly sense, in sort of weird, creepy way. Their music is pitch black layers of drones and male vocals with crystalline guitar arpeggios and otherworldly female vocals hovering in the acoustic space. Something dwelling among the most experimental peaks reached by Coil, Current 93 and Death In June. They have self-released few CDRs and one spilt 7" with Father Murphy in recent times on Boring Machines and Avant! Records. The self-titled debut LP (coreleased with Boring Machines again) is composed of six new tracks, the music is slow, distorted, rich in reverbs and low frequencies, suggesting deep and dark landscapes. It's surely devilish and unsettling at first, but the melodies hidden in the drones tangle are peaceful and refreshing. Comes in total black look, thick cardboard jackets and printed inner sleeve.

ANAL MAGIC & REV. DWIGHT FRIZZELL - BEYOND THE BLACK CRACK
Beyond The Black Crack was the concept of Reverend Dwight Frizzell, a musician, film maker, Doctor of Metaphysics and minister in the Universal Church of Life. It remains a little known classic, and one of the most unique listening experiences in modern experimental music. Recorded between 1974 and 1976 in locations as diverse as factories, the pyramid opposite Harry Truman's grave site as well as more 'conventional' concert settings. Beyond the Black Crack is a dark, dizzying and exhilarating journey through free jazz, electronics and environmental sound, all shattered by Frizzell's radical tape editing. This CD re-release adds further material to the original LP: - "The Wandering Madness of Basilea", a suite from 1977 unheard until now, as well as unreleased material from the Black Crack sessions. Beyond The Black Crack was originally released in mono in an edition of 200 copies by Cavern Custom in 1976 (cat. no. 6104-12), to commemorate the First Annual End of the World Celebration, November 18 1976.

CUSACK, PETER -& MAX EASTLEY- - DAY FOR NIGHT
Over the last 25 years Cusack and Eastley have been gradually adding episodes to the collection of compositions that make up this CD. The foundation of this work consists of location recordings layered with the live or recycled sounds of Eastley's kinetic sculpture. Over the same period that this CD evolved Cusack helped with setting up the LMC, worked for 2 years at Studio Steim in Holland, co-founded Bead Records and released several LP's on this label. His long term musical collaborators have included: Clive Bell, Nic Collins and Viv Corringham, as well as the group Alterations (with Steve Beresford, Terry Day and David Toop). Recent CD's are available on Platelunch, ReR and Resonance. He also frequently works with artists in other fields, including most recently in September 2000, "The Week of Small Miracles", a large scale outdoor project in the Lea Valley area of East London which he curated. Meanwhile Eastley's last 25 years have been spent more in the art gallery than the concert hall, with exhibitions in the UK at The Serpentine Gallery (1976) and The Arnolfini (1980). Overseas installations include The Apollohuis in Holland (1984), the Museum Of Modern Art, Nagoya, Japan and Xebec Hall, Kobe, Japan (both 1994). His most recent exhibits were seen this year as part of Sonic Boom at the Hayward Art Gallery in London. He has also been involved in musical performance, especially the Whirled Music project in the 80s and also ongoing collaborations with David Toop and occasional work with Thomas Köner. He has recorded for many labels including Incus, Quartz and most memorably his 2 releases with David Toop (New and Rediscovered Instruments, originally on Obscure, 1975, and Buried Dreams, on Beyond, 1994). Eastley's work is concerned with creating delicate and elegant kinetic sound devices, either motor driven or animated by environmental forces like the wind, streams or the sea.

DETONI, DUBRAVKO -WITH ACEZANTEZ- - DUBRAVKO DETONI WITH ACEZANTEZ
Croatian composer and pianist Dubravko Detoni is a name barely familiar to even the most hardened and fanatical followers of avant garde composition. Although he has managed to consistently escape almost all forms of wider public recognition, Detoni has, since 1970 - both in the solo context and with his ACEZANTEZ ensemble - doggedly pursued a singular and unique musical path. Drawing on the conventions and traditions of modern composition, avant garde electronics, musique concrète and group acoustic improvisation, and liberally embellishing them with breathtakingly idiosyncratic sonic inventions, Detoni has carved for himself a body of work as toweringly significant as it is hopelessly obscure. This is the first time his music has appeared in Western Europe since his LP on the legendary Philips Prospective series. As this long overdue and timely release shows, he is eminently deserving of the adulation and acclaim afforded his more celebrated contemporaries. The 5 pieces on this CD are all reissued from 3 LP's that appeared on Jugoton in the mid 70s. The pieces explore a broad stylistic palette with a strong use of electric organ to create a manically conceived parade of sound effects, replete with passages of blinding instrumental clarity, and exuding his trademark sugary, almost campy melodic sensibility. Elsewhere a strong sense of theatre mingles aggressively with brut sonic components - cross-fade drones, harshly clanging 'industrial' repetition - with musique concrète, and extensive cut-ups and manipulation of female voices. Brilliantly arranged and executed throughout, all five pieces display Detoni's highly sophisticated ear for (at times), outrageous juxtaposition of instruments. ACEZANTEZ fuse the intellectual awareness of the avant garde with influences drawn from theatre to create surreal and dreamlike settings, in a manner reminiscent of nothing so much as the early outwardbound experiments of Nurse With Wound (suitably the cover lettering has been done by Steve Stapleton). Remastered from original tapes, this could be the release to finally earn Detoni the audience he so richly deserves. Paradigm Discs is proud to present the work of this hitherto neglected master for widespread contemporary re-evaluation. Giovanni Cavallin - recorders, clarinets, saxophone. Dubravko Detoni - piano, harpsichord, celeste. Fred Dosek - electric organ, celeste, glockenspiel. Veronika Durbesic - voice. Daniel Thune - viola, double bass, tuba.

DOWNES, BOB -OPEN MUSIC- - EPISODES AT 4AM
"Paradigm continues to uncover important fragments of the historic record. Bob Downes was everywhere on the musical fringes of the '60s, and his own 'Open Music' with Barry Guy and Denis Smith was part of the furniture of the time. Here, he and Wendy Benka with an orchestra of flutes, hammer dulcimer, marimba, gongs, percussion, jew's harp, saxophone, electronics, feedback, public telephones, water pump, zither, wind gong, cello, crystal glass vase, snail shells and tablas, produce an airy semi-electronic music - originally commissioned for dance, and released on Downes' own Openian label in 1974. What makes it especially interesting is the ground it explores between acoustic and electronic musics: all the sounds are processed, using the limited equipment available at the time, but with a great deal of inventiveness - and imagination will trump outboard computing power every time. Re-mastered from the original tapes, adding 7 extra tracks made between 1972 -2005 (one using only New York Public telephones, au naturel)." ~Chris Cutler.

EASTLEY, MAX - INSTALLATION RECORDINGS (1973-2008) (2CD)
What is essentially a retrospective of MAX EASTLEY's installation work updates and adds many new examples to New and Rediscovered Musical Instruments (split LP with David Toop, Obscure Records 1975). Of the 35 tracks on this, Eastley's first solo CD, only the last two have guests or "playing" (the most virtuosic moment being GEORGE LEWIS wailing on a grass blade). All the other pieces are either powered by the natural forces of wind and water, or else motor-driven gallery installations. The ethereal sounds of the Aoelian harps, the haunting Aeolian flutes, and the violent tension of his aerophone installations are hallmark Eastley sounds, which sit, with many others, amid a wide range of acoustic settings, from windy hill tops to quiet brooks, residential street scenes to coastal shores. The range of indoor recordings is no less varied: a rich variety of acoustics and gallery spaces from tiny micro sounds to large-scale amplification. Wood, metal and stone are brought to life with electricity. Although there are many photos in the 20-page booklet, much is left to the imagination; such limited access to the visual pulls the focus toward the musicality of the sounds themselves, reinforced by slow crossfades from indoors to outdoors, forming a series of suites. The recordings mostly date from the mid-'70s, but there are pieces from later decades. Nearly everything was recorded either to Revox or Uher and occasionally to cassette, using what microphones were available at the time. Recent recordings are digital. The varying quality of the recording set-ups across this double-CD adds yet another dimension to the shifting sound fabric of the anthology.

FRIZZELL, REV. DWIGHT - NATURAL SELECTION
After Paradigm Discs released the 1976 LP by Anal Magic and Rev. Dwight Frizzell, the true scope and diversity of this mans activities became more apparent to me. First there were the countless unused remnants from the original LP recording sessions, then the many films and their soundtracks, the regular radio shows, the dreamlanddiaries web page, the large scale intermedia events, performing weddings and leading the live group Black Crack Review. For 25 years there has been a dynamic continuity to his work, and a strong association with his collaborators. He has also contributed to books on Sun Ra, and is a popular tutor at the Kansas City Art Institute. After being so inspired by the discovery of this creative energy a second CD was immediately planned. All the pieces on this release deal with Frizzell's more experimental output, and include 2 long performance pieces that date from the 90s. One is a multi channel sound diffusion piece using electronics, tapes and acoustic instruments, the other uses graphic scores and is more acoustic with backing tapes. Both these pieces draw their inspiration from natural phenomena, using sounds from nature, the environment and the laboratory. They were both recorded in church spaces and, unlike the early work, use high quality recording equipment. Of the other 5 pieces, 4 are soundtracks, and all date from the same period as the LP and have the hallmark of the sound world that prevails on side 2 of the Anal Magic LP, a time when Frizzell was still a student at the Kansas City Art Institute. Natural selection was recorded in an ancient Ozark sinkhole, a plastics factory, a Gothic church and other acoustically rich areas in Missouri. These communal efforts and soundscape feedbacks were produced between 1975 and 1996, and freely orchestrate Tesla coll, river whirlpools, bass clarinet, dog-whistle, violin, oscillator, bassoon, CB radio and pipe organ' (notes on back of jewel case)

GRAVITY ADJUSTERS EXPANSION BAND - ONE
Although the Gravity Adjusters Expansion Band (GAEB) started in 1967 they remain one of the long lost and underestimated groups that explored the areas of sound sculpture, improvisation, experimental music and free jazz. The group have their roots in playing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, and finally recorded their first LP in Los Angeles. Free jazz drummer Lee Charlton seemlessly shifs the moods from jazzy phrasing into the far more abstracted ideas of the world of sound sculpure. It is this abstract world where the GAEB mostly reside, using the invented instruments of multi-media artist Richard Waters, many of whose percussive and bowed instruments incorporate water filled resonators to bend and tune the sound. Although many other improvisors at the time like AMM, MEV, Sonde and Taj Mahal Travellers all made extensive use of home made and adapted instruments, the GAEB are a very different concern with their own unmistakeable identity. Their first LP "One" appeared in 1973 on Nocturne Records, a small Californian label. It was the first of their 2 LPs, the second appearing some 8 years later. This CD edition is a reissue of the first LP from the master tapes and also contains some 15 minutes of extra material from the time.

GREENHAM, LILY - LINGUAL MUSIC (2CD)
Britain's best known sound poet is Bob Cobbing, but it's hard to come up with a list of other sound poets working in Britain in the '60s and '70s. It's equally difficult to think of any female sound poets working anywhere. LILY GREENHAM was Danish, but spent her childhood in Vienna. After several relocations across Europe she settled in London in 1972 with her British husband (musician and poet Peter Greenham), where she lived until her death in 2001. Nearly all of her own writings and compositions date from after her arrival in London, but prior to her arrival in London she had been involved in two major European art movements. The Wienner Group in the late 1950s and the "Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel in 1964. In London she began to record her own text based compositions that used a mixture of sound poetry techniques, electronics and multi-tracking. The term 'lingual music' that she coined for her compositions refers to her technique of using tape loops of text to create complex and dense musical structures. This 2CD set compiles a wide variety of her own work (1968 and 1984), including live solo performances, film soundtrack pieces, as well as many tape pieces.

ISHIJIMA, AKEMI - TIME DROPS
This mini CD follows on from her previous electroacoustic composition on 'Variations 2 - a London compilation' Paradigm Discs (PD 05). It includes one new piece and a reissue of 'Ab Ovo', previously released on '5 composers second coming' Fylkingen (FYCD 1003). The 2 pieces explore a broad range of traditional electronic techniques, both subtle and powerful. Time Drops (2000). A single stroke of a bell, in its decay, sometimes evokes a sense of infinity in our mind. Time Drops is an attempt to express such ideas as infinity, cosmic equilibrium, and moments of creation in the form of electroacoustic music. Like rain drops making rings in water, the sound generates rings of oscillation, which create parallel universes and coexisting ones. As each sound appears and disappears, the perpetual process of creation and decline in the cosmic equilibrium is experienced in the presence and non-presence of multiple resonance. A mystery still remains around the question of how it all began.Time Drops creates a poetic correspondence with cosmic harmony. Ab Ovo (1993). I once saw, in a science film, a pendulum placed in a peculiar type of magnetic field. It kept swinging in different directions for a while until it stoped at a non-perpendicular position. I was fascinated. I started imagining and creating electroacoustic sketches associated with this image, for example a tiny air vibration caused by the passage of a pendulum etc. Reflection upon two major aspects of the motion of the pendulum - periodicity, and the effect of interfering force - brought in another sound source eg. an egg. When I heard the amplified sound of an egg breaking in the studio, the composition magically came together. The piece starts with a rather striking impact of breaking an egg. This initiates the whole journey through the imaginary sound world circling around eternity and the inevitable point of disruption in a figure of eight. Composed at the Electroacoustic Music Studio of the University of East Anglia, England, 1993.

KYMATIK - DAR-AS-SULH, VOL. 1
The name 'Kymatik' is derived from the Greek word 'Kyma', meaning 'a great wave', and was used by Swiss physicist Hans Jenny as a descriptive term for the effects he saw using amplified tones to manipulate/create patterns in fluids and powders. More recently Jenny's research has led him to use these findings in a clinical environment for both therapy and healing. These ideas and the use of ambisonic surround sound equipment are the underlying influences on this CD. On this CD there are both environmental recordings as well as compositions that make use of UHJ encoding to enable ambisonic playback. Of the compositions; the musical styles range from the use of dense rhythmic patterns to subtle shimmerings and a pure tone piece that sounds like nothing I've heard before. The short environmental recordings are spaced between the compositions and offer some light relief from the intensity of these works. One thing all the pieces have in common a strong psychoacoustic effect which can be further enhanced for those fortunate enough to have access to a UHJ decoder.

MORPHOGENESIS - CHARIVARI MUSIC
The London group Morphogenesis have been in existence since 1985. The group consisted of seven people at the time of recording, but for all the sessions, except the live track, the line-ups are amalgams of various members and instrumentation. All tracks are free improvisations that were recorded direct to two channels and later edited with no other post production. Recorded between 1993 - 1996. Shorepoints was recorded live at the LMC Festival 1994.

MORPHOGENESIS - IN STREAMS, VOL. 2
Morphogenesis started recording in January 1985 and this is our sixth CD release, coming 3 months after the release of Volume 1. Like Volume 1, this CD also contains excerpts from 3 concerts (all in London this time) and a studio piece. Morphogenesis play a few concerts a year, almost always in London. In fact we have only ever played outside the UK twice. Concerts have always yielded our most varied material, but until now our CD's have mainly documented our studio work. Both volumes of 'In Streams' redress this. Of the concerts; one is a whole piece from the Spitz concert organised by Eddie Prvost, then there is a short extract from the Red Rose which has a ominous feel to it that is only partially due to the hostile audience. Finally there is the whole of our Sonic Youth support gig at the Shepherds Bush Empire which also has some interesting audience reactions - the initial cheer of approval on this piece was not because we had finally started, but rather due to a well aimed missile from the front row.

MUSLIMGAUZE - AL JAR ZIA AUDIO
If Satyajit Eye (which is released at the same time on Staalplaat) only blinks at Indian culture, the album Al Jar Zia Audio does this with both eyes open. It is known that Bryn Jones, the man behind Muslimgauze, looked further than the Palestinian conflict and used extensively the rhythms of India, Pakistan and other Eastern cultures. Like crossing borders in the bigger Islam regio, Jones takes whatever comes at hand and moulds into his own trademark sound - often imitated, never surpassed. The tribal bang of the drums, the sampled voices of the radio, combined with a strong sense of melody, makes the music of Muslimgauze stand out a mile from the rest. Whereas others fell into the traps of commercialism, Muslimgauze remained faithful to his own principals and methods. Even in digging the vaults of Muslimgauze, its hard to find material that is of a weaker nature, as Al Jar Zia Audio will proof. From the uplifting dance rhythms of We Have Shafika Habibi On Our Bus, including the chirping of crickets, the bubble bass of Arvinada Jewel Box and crackles of sun burned vinyl, but also some curioso piece such as the highly experimental All I Have Is Sand or the stop-start approach of Brotherhood Of Tikrit. Bryn Jones was not just a master who refined the art of sampling, but also knew how to create a fine piece of music out of it, more often then not displaying a fine sense of melody. Al Jar Zia Audio offers fifteen tracks in over an hour of exciting Muslimgauze music of a sheer varied nature. Less myserious, more open, this is the melting pot of many cultures, from sunnier parts of the world, served from a rainy UK city. Format: CD digipack. Limited edition of 500.

MUSLIMGAUZE - SATYAJIT EYE
It is rumored that if we mortals try to rewrite down everything that Mozart ever composed it would take us 80 years to do so, but then Mozart only lived to be 35. There is something similar with the work of Bryn Jones, also known as Muslimgauze. He died in 1999 at the age of thirty-eight but produced an incredible body of work of which still not all has been released. From the ultra creative period that brought us Hamas Arc and Vote Hezbollah, but also the lost album Shekel Of Israeli Occupation (which master was returned to Bryn Jones since its dedication to the PLO was regarded as betrayal by Jones when PLO signed a peace treaty in 1993, and the music was erased), came the first signs of much more material, so that Staalplaat decided to add a free release as part of the cover of Hamas Arc: if you would send in a blank DAT and cut out the insert from the CD cover, thus having a j-card for the DAT you would get a free six song DAT only release (and mind: xeroxes not accepted). Hamas Arc turned out to be one of the most succesful releases of Muslimgauze and endless amounts of DATs have been copied. Three original pieces, and three remixes from Vote Hezbollah plus three pieces that were on the original DAT master of this, but, for reasons we no longer know, not used on the DAT release. Surpringly enough, Satyajit Eye was bootlegged only this year and not earlier. This expanded version however completes the whole picture for this album, showing us first signs of looking towards Indian music, but also with breezy, desert like rhythms and sounds, such as the intense Zion Poison (which reminds us of O Yuki Conjugate) or the way out music of the title track. Satyajit Eye is a mysterious album, full of hidden layers and evoke a lonely, yet warm feeling of sun covered sand dunes. Format: CD digipack. Limited edition of 500.

ORAM, DAPHNE - ORAMICS (2CD)
DAPHNE ORAM is best known for her design of her Oramics system, and also for co-founding the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1957, but until now the only easily available piece of music by her on CD has been the 8-minute long "Four Aspects." There was also a 7-inch EP from 1962 on HMV, released as part of the Listen, Move and Dance series that was specifically designed to help children dance. Although the short pieces on this record are very basic it could be argued that this is the first ever electronic dance record! Now for the first time is a survey of nearly all the major pieces that she produced since her departure from the BBC in January 1959 until her final tape piece in 1977. The two and a half hours of music on this 2CD set covers the whole range of Oram's post BBC output. All of the music is electronic with some occasional use of real instruments, especially small percussion and piano frame. There is also some use of musique concrète techniques. The works fall roughly into the following categories: works for TV and cinema advertising, film soundtracks, music for theatre productions, installations and exhibitions as well as concert pieces and several studio experiments.

VARIOUS - I.D. ART #2
"When the Los Angeles Free Music Society 10 CD set came out I eagerly flipped through the contents to see what treasures had finally been made available again. Much to my surprise the early compilation I.D. Art #2 was not included in this otherwise major overview of the LAFMS. I.D. Art #2 was the second LP release on their label, coming after Le Forte Fours Bikini tennis shoes LP, and before the 2LP Live at the Brand, a split album between Le 44 and The Doo-Dooettes. It dates from 1976. It is also probably the most difficult LP on their catalogue to find. Originally released in an edition of just 200 copies, most of which were given out to the 44 artists and groups who appeared on this extraordinary LP. The deal was that each track was paid for by the contributor at a rate of $8 per minute in exchange for 4 copies of the disc. Consequently very few copies were ever made available via the LAFMS mail order service. With a running time of 66 minutes and the sheer variety of contributions, I.D. Art #2 remained for most people a mysterious and tantalising item. Most of the contributors came from the students at Otis Art Institute in LA, and many make their only ever recordings for this disc. Among the known names from the LAFMS scene are: Le Forte Four, Joe Potts, Fredrick Nilsen, Mr Foon, Ace & Duce, Dennis Mehaffey as well as 6 tracks by Smegma. Other artists include the painter Miles Forst, violinist Josie Roth, film makers Doug Henry and Gary Beydler, mail artist and dog portrait painter Irene Dogmatic, Otis librarian Joan Hugo, graphic designer Kathe Schreyer and many other creative artists and designers at the start of their careers who submitted their audio idea, be it via telephone, in subways, recontextualising old vinyl, philosophising, story telling, being abstract, joking, rehearsing and lo even playing instruments. This exhilerating journey, bursting with ideas was compiled by Joe Potts and Waynna Kato." ~Clive Graham/Paradigm Discs.

VARIOUS - VARIATIONS 1: A LONDON COMPILATION
This first release on Paradigm Discs includes many new names and is intended to redress the imbalance between the lack of new experimental music in London compared with the proliferation of the tried and tested. "Variations - a London compilation" is a showcase of 7 new London based experimental artists. Kymatik has been experimenting with music technology for several years. Crow is better known for his work in installation and performance art, whilst John Grieve is primarily a sound sculptor who was also a member of the early 80's Dadaist group Hastings Of Malawi. Andrew Jacques works at These Records and Adam Bohman is an original member of Morphogenesis. All the artists are involved in a wide diversity of musical disciplines but none have been released on CD before, with the exception of John Wall and Alquimia who, at the time of writing, both have two CD's available. Tracks: 01 JOHN WALL - Distil part 1 (09.18) 02 ANDREW JACQUES - ronco (10.04) 03 CROW - Music for blind limbs (09.23) 04 ALQUIMIA - The Nagual (12.16) 05 JOHN GRIEVE - 2, 4, 5-T (12.22) 06 KYMATIK - Morphology (12.02) 07 ADAM BOHMAN - Belgian barrage (08.36).

VARIOUS - VARIATIONS 2: A LONDON COMPILATION
Second compilation from Paradigm exhibiting nine works by lesser-know avant-garde composers from in and around the City of London. Features wonderful electro-acoustic work from Akemi Ishijima, minimalism performed on a traditional Mongolian string instrument- the morin khuur- by Michael Ormiston and high-energy avant-garde electronics from Tom Wallace . An obscure composition by Hugh Davies is a highlight, offering a piece for tape machine and Aeolian Harp which stands out on the compilation as it does in his own catalog of electronic improvisation. Saxophonist John Grieve also plunges into electronic transformations of his tenor saxophone. Obscure elders of sonic poetry Bob Cobbing & Lawrence Upton exercise the larynx on a sputtering piece of vocal work while label curator and Morphogenesis member Clive Graham presents his solo debut in the form of an electronic collage. The final piece is a stunning work by one-time Stockhausen technician Rolf Gehlhaar who's electronic work is an expansive and sophisticated sound processing exercise that has to be hear to be believed. (Skip Jansen/Allmusic). Tracks: 01 AKEMI ISHIJIMA - Catalysis (13.38) 02 MICHAEL ORMISTON - Hym (04.55) 03 TOM WALLACE - BrixtonQuatrain (05.08) 04 HUGH DAVIES - Strata (11.20) 05 BOB COBBING & LAURENCE UPTON - from Domestic ambient noise (05.59) 06 JOHN GRIEVE - 251.3.04.222 (03.08) 07 CLIVE GRAHAM - In tension (11.08) 08 ROLF GEHLHAAR - Cusps (16.46).

VARIOUS - VARIATIONS 3: A LONDON COMPILATION
A third and final collection of lesser known & infrequently recorded artists living in London. Considering its size, London is not well recognised as a centre for experimental and electronic music (at least not since the early 80's). Additionally there is virtually no funding or support for this kind of music from within the system. Consequently many composers and musicians who can fit in, work outside of the UK. Naturally enough there are many diverse artists in London that carry on their work in isolation, both at home and within a great many unsupported clubs and venues. This CD covers my own personal favorite discoveries and rediscoveries since the release of Variations 2 in 1997. ~Clive Graham/Paradigm Discs. Tracks: 01 SYNGEN BROWN - Ruckhousing (01.54) 02 SYNGEN BROWN - Rainer's corpse (02.20) 03 SYNGEN BROWN - Midland educational (02.17) 04 WITS - Live at the Lewisham Arthouse (14.32) 05 PHIL DURRANT - Depths (04.37) 06 VOLTAGE - Live at the Klinker (13.56) 07 CLIVE GRAHAM - Time spool (14.02) 08 ANDREW KING - Ninety and nine (03.08) 09 AQUILES PANTALEAO - Three inconspicuous settings (12.25) 10 BOB COBBING - Alphabet of fishes (01.38) 11 BOB COBBING - Tan (03.15) 12 BOB COBBING - Insults (00.33) 13 HASTINGS OF MALAWI - Boeuf en crut (02.08).

WISHART, TREVOR - JOURNEY INTO SPACE
York University's music department houses one of the UK's first ever electronic music studios, and during the early seventies it was a hotbed of creative activity. Much of the released output from the studio at this time revolved around the work of the dynamic composer Trevor Wishart. Journey Into Space was his first release, composed between 1970 and 72, and was privately pressed (shortly before the formation of YES records), as two separate LP's in 1973. (The CD cover amalgamates the 2 original designs). Along with other early private releases of experimental music in the UK (ie the LP of sound poems by Cobbing/Jandl, or the LP of musique concrète by Desmond Leslie), this record is also a total anomaly in the canon of British experimental music and has little to do with the current, or even subsequent work by Wishart. The vast length of this piece has many different styles. There are acoustic sections, mostly of junk and toys (bike bells, squeeze horns, bottles, metal tubes, combs etc.) as well as flute and brass sections that are used as raw material. There are also sections of everyday field recordings, scraps of NASA Apollo transmissions, as well as plenty of multitracking, editing, vocal acrobatics and musique concrète. Among the 48 participants credited on the original sleeve are a whole roster of York University alumni including nearly all the artists who were showcased on the then unreleased 3LP box set 'Electronic Music From York', along with other noteworthy students as diverse as Steve Beresford, Jonty Harrison, Roger Marsh, Dominic Muldowney, Bernard Rands and Jan Steele. The co-operative spirit of York's music and drama departments, plus the raw enthusiasm and open attitude of the participants involved in the project gave this music an immediacy, similar to the later LAFMS scene.

LUST FOR YOUTH - SALUTING ROME
Hannes Norrvide's LFY doesn't need any further introduction. The post-industrial synth-pop project was born in Goteborg, Sweden, a few years ago, joined by Amanda Eriksson. When she left, our man moved to Malmo actually), where the whole Iceage/Var/Posh Isolation thing is happening. So it was more than natural for Hannes to join those guys and for such a main character as Loke Rahbek to become the new LFY soldier. Saluting Rome is their latest recording as a duo. Originally released by Loke's Posh Isolation as a tour tape, the EP has now got its actual chance to make it on vinyl. I don't really have to tell you much about the music here: you know you will find simple yet killer synth melodies, clockwork drum machines beats, youthful lyrics for underground ice-cold anthems. The record has been mastered specifically for vinyl by Viktor Ottosson (Street Drinkers, Blodvite, Niding) and comes on 12-inch cut at 45 Rpm for the best analog sound possible. The tracklist is also different from the tape edition and features the totally unreleased track First Touch. Five more songs by one of our favorite bands going on out there in the cold North of Europe that will help us make it through the upcoming frosty months.

NATURAL ASSEMBLY - ARMS OF DEPARTURE
Natural Assembly is a new two piece dark synth-wave group from London, UK, consisting of J.Cannon & Z.Zsigo. Since the first demo tape released in 2011, when the band was Jesses solo project, a few limited cassettes have emerged. The sound is somehow similar to what our comrades Lust For Youth and Contrepoison offer, still these guys have developed their own version of what we like to call industrial synth-pop, with Arms of Departure being the first major work. Influenced by Front 242 and New Order, pounding drum machines sustain liquid synthesizer melodies and reverberated vocals beat until decay. Six tunes to mark a personal debut that will be the perfect soundtrack for your last days on Earth.
