Quote from the label: Sometimes a stupid, harebrained idea CAN become a reality. "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - terrible film, The League Of Psychedelic Gentlemen would have been a much better bet?", I thought, one alcohol-fuelled day. Sober the next day, if still felt like a bloody good idea, all it needed was for four cult heroes of new psychedelia to be mad enough to agree to get involved - some chance. So, after plucking up the courage to ask four musical mavericks and cult heroes whether they would ever, even vaguely consider, grovel, grovel...I staggered back to the comforting arms of Mr Carlsberg when they all said, "yes" and I realised I had to get off my backside and pull a record together that would do them justice. And here it is, old songs, new songs, archive recordings, new recordings - each artist has contributed an exclusive track to the ep to create a cracking little 7" EP that gives you just a taster of what makes each Gent a English National Treasure (except Anton, hes from Sacramento). Tracks: 1. Nick Nicely - Rosemary's Eyes An October 2012 solo recording by Nick Nicely, whose return to Hilly Fields earlier in 2012 on Fruits de Mer Records was an instant sell-out. Nick is currently working on updating his Lysergia album, which should see a full release in 2013, but he wrote Rosemary's Eyes and committed it to tape or the WAV equivalent especially for this release; new psychedelia doesn't get better than this. 2. The Bevis Frond - I'm A Stone. Again, an all-new song and recording by Nick Saloman, who epitomizes what The League is all about - brilliant, eccentric, willfully uncommercial, a smashing bloke. 3. Anton Barbeau/Three Minute Tease - When I Was 46 (In The Year 13) Ant and his new band Three Minute Tease (with Egyptian's Andy Metcalfe on bass, Morris Windsor on drums) revisit Ant's track from a few years back, with Pat Collier from The Vibrators on production duties, and inject new life and energy into a fine song. 4. Paul Roland - The Puppet Master. Paul took a break from recording and writing to search through his archives especially for this EP and found this wonderfully-atmospheric version of his classic song from 1980, featuring Knox (again from the Vibrators) and Robyn Hitchcock on backing vocals! ...NIK NAK PADDY WHACK. After the Watts Riots in South Los Angeles in 1965, the working-class community suffered further with no improvements to the infrastructure and a lack of opportunity. The community felt isolated and left behind. An underfunded educational system contributed to delinquency, and gradually gangs gained strength. The spread of drugs and the accompanying increased crime rate raised the level of violence in neighborhood. In that vicious circle in the early '70s, a group of children in Watts began playing music using junk and scrap metal as instruments. A community activist, Mike Joseph, who worked with "problem" children discovered this eccentric group. He brought them into a studio in Los Angeles and produced a record in 1971 in cooperation with the Watts Writers Workshop and other community groups. The intention was to have them feel a sense of accomplishment. Their instruments included scrap oil drums, iron bars, metal cans & other urban castoffs, which they played with enthusiasm, singing R&B favorites and a kid's song. But it was more than a mere document of child's play. This peerlessly unique musical expression sends a strong message, quite distinct from steel pan music or '80s noise/industrial groups despite a shared use of metal percussion. A tiny but positive change was born in their music, using detritus to create magic. Bristol Punk Pioneers DISORDER formed around 1980, during the second wave of UK punk rock. Their approach to DIY ethics was so deep that they decided not to sign to Riot City, but to create a label of their own, for a bunch of classic singles the average distortion level of which led BBC DJ John Peel to describe Disorder as sounding like "shit". In fact, unlike many contemporaries like Crass or Conflict, Disorder showed no ambitions in stylistic experimentation: their debut LP 'Under The Scalpel Blade' is one blast after the other of pure rage, packaged in two-minute bursts of hyper-speed drumming, distorted guitars, and screaming vocals. My first sensation as I got this record in my hand was kind odd: at first sight, looking at the cover photo, I thought it was the umpteenth reference to Banda della Magliana style; after a book, a movie, a tv show which is affecting the pose of an entire generation downhere, I can't stand any other 'legendary' Freddo & Co. Luckly, of legendary, Funny Dunny have only the r'n'r' spirit. It is sufficient a listen to Both of You, to catch up their roots, 5 young men from Avellino (southern Italy), and it is like they are not so far from the boundless country living among 50s and 60s. In case You don't agree with me yet, we'll do with Why Did I?, a cover for our gentleman Jerry J. Nixon. Later, with Don't Beleve It we make up our mind and realize that Funny Dunny dress like Monks, - sort of preachers of the word of garage; simply granitic. Mugellos Theme, now get your swimsuit, because band's sound makes us dance like on the surf table, in perfect Trashmen style; and so on with the following B-side track.. I mean, the sea gets rough. The first side of this disc ends with Failure, a melancholic ballad with fuzzed guitar, and Sal Mirabella's voice which recalls Andrea Carminati's from The Kaams. Once again, North and South meet into the surprising national scene of garage panorama. The other half this record takes a more classic 60s British R&B drift. With I've been and Zizinzi, Funny Dunny drown the pain of blues pioneers in a lethal mix of alcohol and amphetamines; but, sometimes, as Pennac writes, you must "forget everything, even the future, and if they don't want to, if they want to remember, well, double shot!". Then it comes Otis, one of those tracks you should play during a lonely walk with no destination, when everything around you is just the frame of what you have lost; I haven't lost my Pazienza yet: "never take a step back, not even to take a run". White Powder Dream, and Funny Dunny tune with that kind of garage punk that I like; a track like Kicks from the Boot is one of those more appreciated podcast from downhere. Reissue of this hardcore classic for the recently reformed-band tour. As someone who always thought What Feeds the Fire was just "okay," I was hesitant to believe all the hype surrounding Verse. However, once I actually gave them a fair chance and listened to them myself, I found what all the commotion was about. Each time I listened to their four-song demo I heard something new that I liked about Verse. I feel the same way when I listen to Rebuild. There's so much urgency in this record that its infectious. Rebuild to me is a homage to a time in hardcore that was more about heart than hair styles and more about passion than posturing. Initially what grabbed me about Verse was the music. It's fast and heavy, but also very melodic and catchy. It instantly reminded me of the last recordings Turning Point did before they disbanded, a connection that in my opinion is a great thing. The songs are so driving and well written that theres never a dull moment on the record, which is a pretty tough thing for me to say about a hardcore LP. And although the music may have been what originally attracted me to Verse it was the lyrics that pulled me in. Sean Murphy's lines are bursting with optimism, emotion, and realistic idealism. The idealism I speak of is the kind that fuels personal revolutions: the idea to change, grow and progress. His lyrics are words everyone can identify with to some extent. Each line is one small step in the direction of a positive change rather than just blind sloganeering. Sure, some of the lyrics sound as cliché as it gets, (i.e. "tear down these walls") but overall they are solid and straight to the point. Verse is not the only band playing this brand of melodic heavy hardcore. They are just the best of the recent bands to do it. If youre into Bane, Burn, late Turning Point, or bands like With Honor and Comeback Kid, it is in your best interest to check out Verse. 		PUNK/HARDCORE

Wada's earliest musical memories are of hearing Zen Buddhist ritual chants in his native Japan, and those memories are reflected in the deep vocalisations here; also evident is Wada's period of intense study with Indian master singer Pandit Pran Nath. Thus there is a definite "Eastern" feeling to 'Singing In Unison', with further elements added by Imani Smith's Sufi background and Wada's interest in Eastern European vocal styles, but the music is also informed by Wada's experiences in the Fluxus movement and as a member of the New York avant-garde community. The edgy atmosphere of 1970s New York City pervades these recordings, adding a hint of menace.
