'Dial M For Murder' was recorded at Channel One around 1979/1980 with Sly and Robbie as the rhythm section, Rad Brian on guitar, Bobby Kalphat and Ansell Collins on keyboards and piano, Tommy McCook and Herman Marquis on horns. It is a lean but stellar cast of players and one that was used regularly by producer Phil Pratt. In particular Bobby Kalphat who was to feature heavily on many of Pratt's recording sessions and cut some great instrumental sides that are well worth the search.

GRAY, OWEN - HEAR WE THEM A SAY/VERSION (AKA DANCING KID) (10")

A prodigy of the Alpha boys school, Owen Gray delivers a heartfelt roots vocal on a rhythm most likely supplied by Sly Dunbar and Lloyd Parks. This is a top tune and Phil Pratt's production is sympathetic to Owen Gray's voice. The rhythm was remixed at London's Easy street ... read more »

PARKS, LLOYD/WE THE PEOPLE BAND - SLAVING/PART 2

This cut of Lloyd Parks' classic 'Slaving', often referred to as the Steppers version, was recorded around 1980, when the song was re-recorded with added embellishment and more emphasis on the bass drum. Hard to find and a favourite with DJs and the cognoscenti. A first ... read more »

BROWN, AL - AIN'T NO LOVE/VERSION

BROWN, AL - AIN'T NO LOVE/VERSION

A real classic of its kind. Al Brown's 1975 cover of Bobby Bland's classic blues/soul refections on urban living had been a staple of his set at the Kingston Tit For Tat club. Not available on 45 since its first pressing on Tommy Cowan's Arab label.
