Nicolas Belvalette, known as Usé, doesnt really play the guitar, and that is barely a guitar anyway. He hits it, strikes the same chord ad nauseam, sticks a zinc cymbal on the neck, plays six instruments all at once. With his former band Headwar he atomized the labels of "noise", "rock" and "techno" that help us taming noise. He brings us back to the core foundations of sound, those primitive pulsations pre-existing language or melody, when the beating of our heart was all there was to our sound universe, at the bottom of our amniotic condition.

Also available: CHIEN D'LA CASSE (LP).

REGAL (FRANCE) - TWO CYCLES & A LITTLE MORE

REGAL (FRANCE) - TWO CYCLES & A LITTLE MORE

A vinyl release of the third album by this French band. Musically we get a mix of dirty garage rock -more or less in the style of The Black Lips- with country and folk vibes. Of course the group never neglects its punk background either.

CHOCOLAT - TSS TSS

CHOCOLAT - TSS TSS

In 2006, Jimmy Hunt (then a proverbial punk-troubadour usually found in bars) and Ysael Pepin (bassist for Demons Claws) started to jam here and there in one of the rooms of an apartment located above the late Zoobizarre in Montreal. Brian, Martin, and Dale eventually ... read more »

FEELING OF LOVE - DISSOLVE ME

FEELING OF LOVE - DISSOLVE ME

Born in a Metz's bunker during the 2006 summer, The Feeling of Love is at first the solo project of G.Marietta (A.H. Kraken's guitarist and singer, In the red records). Ephemeral idea that initially couldn't have gone further than a few short songs, belched and recorded for ... read more »

CANNIBALE - NO MERCY FOR LOVE

CANNIBALE - NO MERCY FOR LOVE

French band Cannibale releases an exciting album that sounds like a surprising -and very psychedelic- mixture of cumbia, African rhythms and garage music. Or, if you will, a kind of missing link between Fela Kuti, The Doors and The Seeds!

VILLEJUIF UNDERGROUND - WHEN WILL THE FLIES IN DEAUVILLE DROP?

VILLEJUIF UNDERGROUND - WHEN WILL THE FLIES IN DEAUVILLE DROP?

The music of the Villejuif Underground is the result of happy accidents and unholy alliances, something that was never meant to be but became an astonishing fandango of sorts. Think Fat White Family covering Oingo Boingo with Beat Happening's gear. Think Beck's 'One Foot In ... read more »

CLOTHILDE - FRENCH SWINGING MADEMOISELLE 1967

Compilation of the 1967 output (2 EP's for the Vogue-label and an Italian single release) by the queen of the 'Swinging Mademoiselles', which basically was the female equivalent of the French '60s Yé Yé movement. These songs are fruity, catchy, youthful, ... read more »
