Graham has coupled punks energy with his deeply rooted love of American R&B, country and soul music. Hes got a snotty barroom brawlers rasp and sneer, a soulmans swagger and an ear for indelible hooks and pop songcraft. On Imaginary Television, his fourth studio record for Bloodshot (and 20th overall in a 30+ year career), Graham Parker combines indelible hooks, penchant for the British blues-rock revival with a touch of the reggae and biting political commentary to produce an incredibly solid record. Channeling Them-era Van Morrison, New York style Lou Reed, and the omnipresent Bob Dylan, Imaginary Television might be a concept record, but like American Songwriter wrote around Grahams last record, he "hasnt changed his sunglasses or his approach." Bruce Springsteen once said that the only band hed pay to see live was Graham Parker and The Rumour, and Grahams renegade spirit and ear for hooks have only sharpened over the years.

FLORES, ROSIE - WORKING GIRL'S GUITAR

FLORES, ROSIE - WORKING GIRL'S GUITAR

Rosie Flores, the Rockabilly Filly, the working girls guitar virtuoso, surfs some slinky West Texas waves, channels some lush, longing Beatles-inflected pop and adds some sly hither-come purrs to a classic by the King. Rosie can be an elegant classicist, or can let it all ... read more »

FULKS, ROBBIE - UPLAND STORIES

Produced by Steve Albini, Robbie makes songs that offer more than the usual verse-chorus structure. These songs have space, calmness, unresolved tension and the hallmarks of lived experience.
