'Am I Dreaming?' is the 2023 album by the very prolific Finnish psych/space/kraut project Astral Magic that has been channelling psychedelic and spacey music from other dimensions since March 2020. This time the inspiration came from late '60s/early '70s psych/garage/prog rock (think early Floyd, Stones, The Beatles, 13th Floor Elevators, The Byrds, The Who, The Zombies, Hawkwind etc.). As usual, Santtu Laakso (ex-Dark Sun) got help from international cast of psych rock veterans like for example Dr. Koch from Vibravoid who also made the cover design! This very cool sounding album was recorded
2020-2021 in Finland, Germany, UK and USA. The high quality 140g LP's were pressed at the new plant Helsingin Levypuristamo, the first one in Finland for almost 30 years. BARBICAN ESTATE - BARBICAN CITY OF TOKYO
A fabulous mini LP from London based, Japanese psych band Barbican Estate. Four beguiling tracks of atmospheric, occasionally acid folk flavoured, melodic freakout shifts, taking in tips of the hat to Popol Vuh (check Miri's beautiful vox on 'Angel'), Amon Düül and fellow countrymen Acid Mothers Temple and Kikagaku Moyo amongst others. Formed in 2019, this three-piece consists of Kazuki Toneri (guitar, sitar), Miri (bass, flute, vocals), and Koh Hamada (drums, percussion). Each member is well-versed in music, film, and various other arts, drawing inspiration not only from experimental, psychedelic rock, and noise music but also from art across the world, both past and present. Their music weaves solid, architectural elements with destruction into a dark and gloomy soundscape, is often described as "dark psychedelic." They released their first album, 'Way Down East,' in 2021. In 2022, they relocated to London, where they performed on UK tours and at festivals. Having already played nearly 50 live shows, they are gaining attention in the local scene. Their EP 'Viscum' was released in June 2024. 'Barbican City Of Tokyo' is a compilation of tunes previously consigned to digital release only that label head Dom had free rein to assemble an EP from, which luckily the band wholeheartedly agreed upon! ...and all four tracks appear on vinyl here for the first time. This release hopefully cements a growing interest in the band's fabulous music, and early reviews of both the LP here and their live shows are overwhelmingly positive. Limited to 100 copies, so be fast!

In the '60s, in Chile there were two styles of pop music that were very popular: one was the 'new wave', something like the descendants of the Anglo-Saxon pop soloists; the other, naturally, were the groups that, under the influence of the British invasion by the hand of the Beatles, played rock and roll. With 'Juegos Prohibidos,' Beat 4 begin to detach themselves a little from that current that was limited to copying and covering especially British hits, and began to sing in Spanish, and to risk more in the production of their songs, approaching psychedelia and experimentation. With its own personality and a fresh sound, 'Juegos Prohibidos' is a key piece to understand the first steps of Chilean rock, an album that although it keeps winks to the greats of rock, especially the Stones ('Encontrarás Otro Amor'), also gives original steps ('Quiero Fugarme Con Ella A Una Isla Solitaria (Donde Haya Paz)'), and mystical experimentation with psychedelic touches already influenced by the hippie generation ('Viaje Fantástico'). One of the jewels of a pioneer band of the Chilean rock of the '60s. Originally released in 1967.

Last copies! Debut album by a Italian psychedelic rock band Citrus Citrus.
Citrus Citrus was born in Padova in 2020 as an idea by guitarists Lorenzo Badin and Luca Zantomio, joined after some months by bassist Enrico Maragno and drummer Marco Buffetti. Citrus Citrus started as an instrumental project based on several jams and past explorations in psychedelic music, but eventually found its final form when joined by singer and producer Thomas Powell. 'Albedo Massima' revolves around the idea of metamorphosis: myths and legends from ancient Greek and Latin cultures contain the roots of our present feelings and obsession as humans and western societies. Along with the content of these mythologies and their migrations across the Mediterranean Sea and beyond, the concept of metamorphosis is reinforced by the Pomelo (the citrus in the cover art and symbol of the band), one of the three originary citruses from which current species have evolved, both in natural and human purposes. The title is a play on words between botany and science: pomelos have a thick albedo under their peel, which is usually discarded but has distinct scent and texture; also the maximum albedo ("Albedo Massima" in Italian) is registered when all incident light is reflected by a surface. 'Sunday Morning In The Sun,' the opening track and first single from the album, follows the reflections of the sun as they dissolve into the space around them as well as 'Echo,' the nymph whose body dissolves and whose voice eternally lingers in the landscape.

Like an unsent love letter to a psychedelic London where everyone is trying to find their way to a secret Television Personalities gig, Cuneiform Tabs emerge with an astounding debut of lo-fi pop and DIY experimentation. A hazy collage of joyful heartaches, twisted children's TV themes and sing-song melodies, the album echoes the sounds of '60s AM radio from a dozen narrow alleyways to the North. Over 18 months, the Tabs' Matt Bieyle and Sterling Mackinnon traded 4-track tapes between the Bay Area and the UK. While they previously played together in indie band Violent Change, the duo's physical distance and their songwriting process of building, blurring and distorting across the Atlantic would create something no one saw coming. Grabbing any instruments at their disposal and splitting vocal duties, Bieyle and Mackinnon pushed their Tascam to its limit to make glittering, odd-shaped gems. There is an insular feel to Cuneiform Tabs, suited for late nights after the entire city has stumbled into dreamtime or lazy afternoons when you can't quite recall where you need to be, but you know you won't make it there on time. It's like a pirate radio show where Bob Pollard alternates Swell Maps and Cleaners From Venus records while randomly unplugging various bits of gear and reading passages from a book on R.D. Laing. Originally released in a hyper-limited artist edition, W.25TH/Superior Viaduct is thrilled to bring this kaleidoscopic LP to a wider audience.

Previously completely unknown second, unreleased LP by pastoral English songsmith. Recorded in 1973 at the University of Surrey Music Department where Robert was a Guitar Degree Student. A kaleidoscope of beautifully sung, intense, impressionistic, self-composed songs. Some simply backed by his stunning guitar work, others with full chamber folk-rock backing. Heavily symbolic lyrics and deceptively sweet music, much of the imagery seems to anticipate his tragic early death, in his sleep, aged 19, just weeks before he graduated. Obvious comparisons can be made to Nick Drake and even Tim Buckley, but perhaps more sharply to early Al Stewart and with a strong resonance of Village Thing artists, especially Dave Evans' two classic LPs. Timeless, sharp, wistful and eccentric. A miracle this has survived. Fully laminated sleeve, NO BARCODE, features inner with full lyrics and insert with memories from his brother, designed by the immortal Bobby Blisters. Mastered by Reynolds Mastering, the kings of reconstruction and pressed on the old EMI presses by Vinyl Factory for maximum quality. As always pressing run limited to 227.

Limited edition of 154 handnumbered copies on translucent blue vinyl. Plankton Wat began as a home studio recording project by Portland, OR musician Dewey Mahood in the early 2000s. The playful band name was inspired by Popol Vuh, and combines the names of krautrock producer Conny Plank and bassist Mike Watt. Mahood made several low key albums on various formats for obscure underground labels, and played occasional solo guitar gigs around the West Coast. Full of swirling, abstract guitar-based instrumentals, 'Corridors' furthers the themes of social and ecological breakdown that he explored on 2021's 'Future Times.'

Poll formed in 1971. Moving from hippie-rock to electric folk-rock they managed to get themselves in the top ranks of the Greek '70s rock pantheon. Both of their albums (originally released on Polydor) contain well-structured songs with lyrics of high sensitivity. Acoustic, electric and 12-string guitars, organ, piano, percussion and drums along with a lot of harmonies from the male and female vocalists. But also the covers of their albums were amazing and inventive! The second, same-titled one (1972), was recorded at the same time that the band was ready to split. Inside its gatefold cover there was a 12-page comic book where the 4 members of the group were a kind of "superheroes." The story of the comic (made by Kostas Tournas himself) was describing the short life of the Poll, from their birth till their final recordings. Just after the split, Kostas Tournas released his magnum opus 'Aperanta Chorafia' and some months later, Stavros Logaridis presented 'Akritas.' Two of the best Greek rock albums ever. These Poll official reissues are from the master tapes and have the same covers as the original ones. Includes original 12-page full-coloured comic book, gatefold cover, 180gr vinyl.

Last copy! In the 20th year of Sula Bassana's career a new album is showing up! It contains songs composed and recorded from 2013 to 2018, but finished at a few evenings within the last years.
After some more electronic orientated albums, this one here is more in the style of the rock orientated albums like 'Dreamer,' 'The Night,' 'Dark Days' or 'Live At Roadburn 2014.' The first two tracks include some vocals, which is rare on Sula albums, and show the more rockier side of this album. The title track is something different, very melodic, even slightly jazzy, and features Mellotron and some pure fuzz. 'Wurmloch' is a full space flight based on a synthesizer arpeggio with the rest recorded around later. And the album ends with the oldest of these tracks: 'Mellotraum.' This was the first track Sula recorded with his freshly arrived Mellotron (4000d) on it's first day, back in 2013. Limited to 500 copies on 180gr two-colour corona vinyl.

Julissa, the woman who was censored in Mexican rock! Rock and roll in Mexico had an impact practically all over the world, yet it was never free from censorship. Several songs made it to the radio, and among them was the track 'Ven Cerca,' performed by Los Spitfires and their singer Julissa. Julissa entered the entertainment industry at a very young age, as she was only 13 years old when she started singing with The Spitfires, a rock and roll group formed by her brother Luis on bass, Juan Ramón Sordo on drums, José Luis de la Huerta, and Manuel González Galindo, better known as Johnny Dynamo, on guitars. Los Spitfires, a band originating from Mexico City and formed in 1960, were one of five winning groups in a contest organized by CBS Columbia and the Radio Éxitos station, held in November of that same year. Los Escupefuego were the runners-up, as first place went to Los Hooligans, who, in addition to recording an album, would also appear in a movie. The other groups that won the opportunity to record an album with CBS were: Los Loud Jets, Los Blue Caps, and Los Sparks. Los Spitfires only recorded two tracks: 'Loco Amor' and 'Ven Cerca,' Spanish versions of Paul Anka's 'Crazy Love' and Johnny Restivo's 'Come Closer.' Although these songs are not widely known, except among true fans, they serve as a reference to the early rock being made in Mexico during that time. At the time, all rock musicians were copying foreign hits, including the musical arrangements, and simply translating the lyrics into Spanish. For Julissa, this task wasn't difficult, as she was fluent in English. 'Ven Cerca' ('Come Closer') with its highly suggestive lyrics, was the first song she recorded with her group. She translated the lyrics exactly as Johnny Restivo sang them in English. It began like this: "Come closer, just a little bit closer, because I want to hug and kiss you, come closer." Julissa sang it with whispers and sighs, and with the microphone so open, all her breaths and gasps sounded like genuine moans. Very soon, the record was pulled from the market. Interestingly, she had no idea what those suggestive expressions implied, as she was almost still a child. That record 45s it is very difficult to find and is a rare piece sought after by collectors from around the world! Limited to 300 copies.

Small repress. These guys were the absolute definition of the term "mayhem"! The Crimson Shadows were among the very few and the very first that took on garage punk not only in Sweden but Europe in general, the first half of a suck ass decade like the '80s. They had three at least talented song writers (Peter Maniette, Jens Lindberg and Mans P. Mansson), that more or less on 'em the whole rock n' roll scene of Sweden lean on, with later bands like The Wylde Mammoths, The Highspeed V, The Livingstones and continue to these days with the Maharajas, the Maggots and the Strollers! They were drunks to the bone, savages and terrorists not only in their music but in lifestyle. There are lots of stories about them on how raised hell and gave the creeps in every single band of that scene or every single show! This LP compiles all the tracks officialy released by the Crimson Shadows in the '80s, on vinyl. Original records long gone and beats top dollar in the collectors market. All the tracks have been taked from the original master tapes.

Repress! Dara Puspita (trans. "Flower Girls") was arguably the world's greatest all-female garage rock band. The reason you've probably never heard of them is that they came from Indonesia where they were extremely popular during the 1960s. Their career spanned from 1965 until 1973 including 3 years (1969-1971) living and touring in Europe. The four albums recorded by the original members between 1966 and 1968 (the material represented on this LP) is one of the great chapters of 1960s popular music history never to be reissued in vinyl, let alone recognized beyond a few tuned-in souls and adventurous record collectors in the Western world. This is an amazing compilation for all garage rockers, fuelled with fuzz tunes and groovy rhythms.

In 1966 Riddles became a popular live attraction in the band's hometown of Piraeus by delivering top notch Beatles-covers and other Brit invasion songs with a healthy garage edge. After winning a local Battle Of The Bands contest the combo entered a studio to record four songs. Two of those songs, the originals 'Alone Alone' and 'I Tell You A Story About My Life' made it to an official 45rpm release in 1966. These killer tracks are of course included in this album. 'Summer Forever And Ever' succeeds 'Blue Gene Stew,' 2019's debut by the Wolfmanhattan Project, a collective unit co-starring three musicians familiar to In The Red listeners: singer-guitarist Mick Collins, front man of the seminal Detroit-bred garage units the Dirtbombs and the Gories, singer-guitarist Kid Congo Powers who played in such legendary bands as the Gun Club, the Cramps, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and drummer-vocalist Bob Bert, whose skin work has distinguished albums by Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch's Retrovirus, and Jon Spencer and the HITmakers. The group was founded as a studio project by three musicians who are kept busy by their primary bands. 'Blue Gene Stew' was written and recorded quickly. Powers says, "I think that the new record was much more a group effort. I think there's more of a group kind of sound, as eclectic as it is. I feel like we all played together, as opposed to playing on each other's songs." Bert notes that the band's music is grounded in spontaneity: "Me and Mick went in and had a couple of rehearsals, and I would come up with a beat, he would come up with a riff. I still have a cassette Walkman, believe it or not, and we'd put it down on that. It wasn't even a full song. We'd just put down a bunch of ideas. When it came to recording we'd lay down the basic tracks and work out different things, and a lot of it was made up on the spot. It really is a great collaboration." Recorded and engineered by Mark C. of Live Skull at his studio, 'Summer Forever And Ever' finds Powers playing piano and the Kaoss touch-pad effects unit and Collins playing synthesizer, in addition to their usual instruments. The album reflects the same eclectic mix of musical styles heard on the debut. References and sometimes even direct quotes from sources as diverse as the Andrea True Connection, Captain Beefheart, the Count Five, and Eurythmics leap out of the speakers.

Repress of 1000 copies! This 19 track double LP is a recut of the 2014 release of a live concert recorded at Paddington Town Hall (Sydney Australia) in December 1977. Recorded just prior to the band's departure for the UK to promote the Sire release of their 'Radios Appear' album, this recording was mixed from 16 track master tapes that had languished forgotten for decades. It is a totally wild and raw record that captures the band's true primal energy perhaps in a way that other recordings haven't. 'Living Eyes' was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales during a break in the band's 1978 tour of Britain and Europe. Relations between members were falling apart and Sire had dropped the band prior to the start of recording. Their breakup soon followed. Initial releases of the album were cut from a tape dub of trial mixes as the band never received an official master. In 1994 the original tapes were retrieved from Rockfield and remixed in Australia for a CD only release. This is the first time the remix version has been released on vinyl. It has been remastered and cut to lacquer. Same front cover as the original though the back has been altered. The inner sleeve contains liner notes explaining the genesis of the remix.

There is not a shadow of a doubt about that. So if the question comes to the first speed metal song in history, there could only be two contenders. Either it's Raven's furious 'Faster Than The Speed Of Light' from their second landmark album 'Wiped Out' (issued in 1982 on Neat Records) or it's 'Axe Crazy' by Bristol's most famous sons Jaguar (released as a 7" single also by Neat Records the same year). Jaguar released their first single 'Back Street Woman' in 1981 via Heavy Metal Records. But before that they had already recorded a highly praised demo cassette.

Rita Braga is a Porto-based, Portuguese singer and multi-instrumentalist. Rita is a prolific artist who has released a string of cult records, most recently 2020's 'Time Warp Blues.' She has performed hundreds of shows in the last fifteen years all across Europe, Brazil, Japan, US and Australia and is a lynch-pin of the ever-burgeoning music and arts scene in Portugal. For 'Illegal Planet' Rita continues to traverse realms of sci-fi pop and synth-folk dream-worlds whilst also grappling with dystopic mundanities of modern life such as smartphone apps for Rádio Pardal and YouTube, with the closing track 'Unclassified' thanking the listeners who stayed until the end and asking them not to forget to hit the subscribe button. Elsewhere 'Ikea Snow' ruminates on existential dread in the shape of global climate collapse. These very modern tales of transcendence and woe are filtered through a kosmische haze of synths, old-time drum machines and all manner of musical instruments from around the world. Rita's vocal is inspired by her love of early jazz and Hollywood actresses of yester-year and this brings a nostalgic tinge to the gorgeous suite of mini-narratives. Jazz-inflected noir-pop for the end times, indeed. As well as recording, releasing and touring her solo music she has collaborated with a host of cult musical figures including a current project with German composer and sound artist Felix Kubin. In 2022 she worked with Ana da Silva of post-punk group The Raincoats and also collaborated and toured with American post-hardcore hero Ian Svenonius of Nation Of Ulysses. Rita completed her bachelor degree in Music Sciences in Lisbon and in 2018-2019 she took the MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths, University of London. The songs for 'Illegal Planet' were composed by Rita and produced by her and Rodrigo Cardoso at Sonoscopia studios in Porto. The album features a range of guests with enviable
CVs such as Nik Phelps (Tom Waits/Frank Zappa), Phil MFU (Vanishing Twin) and leading figures of Porto's experimental music scene such as Gustavo Costa and Luís Bittencourt. 'Illegal Planet' was mastered by Tó Pinheiro da Silva.

Christian Death was formed by Rozz Williams in Los Angeles, California in 1979. Williams was eventually joined by guitarist/songwriter Rikk Agnew of Adolescents, James McGearty on bass and George Belanger on drums. This Christian Death line-up was responsible for recording the band's iconic 1982 debut, 'Only Theatre Of Pain,' widely regarded as the #1 American goth album of all-time. This exclusive double-LP version commemorates its 40th anniversary - the first disc is the digitally remastered, original version of the album while the second disc is comprised of 'Dogs' from 'Hell Comes To Your House,' four pre-Frontier demos, two studio demos made for a second Frontier Records LP that never happened and two alternate studio mixes from 'Only Theatre Of Pain.' The gatefold LP jacket is printed in its original black and metallic gold, includes a Colver collage poster and a hardcover copy of the photo book 'Only Theatre Of Pain' and all come in a hard slipcase. The oversized 12" x 12" book features rare and never-before-seen photos of Christian Death as well as new interviews with photographer Edward C. Colver, the surviving band members, Frontier's Lisa Fancher and others. Colver befriended the band and followed them around in late 1981 and early 1982 at more than a dozen concerts as well as photo shoots in Rozz Williams' family home (used on the back cover and insert) and a session of now famous images at a Pomona CA cemetery. This is a one-time only, strictly-limited edition box set, never to be sold as a set once these are gone.

Flaming Tunes' sole release is perhaps the finest elegy to the '80s home recording ethos that you've never heard. Originally released in 1985 on cassette (with individually hand-colored covers), this self-titled album grew out of the collaboration between childhood friends Gareth Williams and Mary Currie.
Williams is best known as a member of English art-rock band This Heat. After leaving the group in the early '80s, he travelled to India where he studied classical Kathakali
dance... an experience that would profoundly shape the
music of Flaming Tunes. In an old Victorian house in South London, the duo recorded during the day while Currie's young son attended school and Williams conducted tape treatments at night. They were joined by various guests including This Heat
guitarist Charles Bullen as well as long-term collaborators
Martin Harrison and Rick Wilson. Using whatever instruments they had on hand (clarinet, piano, bells, etc.), Flaming Tunes create lo-fi melodies around simple arrangements, oblique rhythms and densely layered natural sounds. The results are a
mesmeric collage of instrumental daydreams and sideways pop songs, floating into one another in a hazy confluence of late '60s Canterbury psych-folk and early Residents experimentation.
All of these beguiling elements converge in a personal manner, quietly insistent in listeners' ears like the blood pulsing in one's veins on a warm summer day.

Originally released in 1996 as a limited fan-club pressing for
Rockathon, Guided By Voices' 'Tonics And Twisted Chasers' has
always existed as an anomaly in Robert Pollard's vast discography. In many ways, the album serves as the tail of a creative comet that in just two years included the "classic line-up" trilogy of 'Bee Thousand,' 'Alien Lanes,' 'Under The Bushes, Under The Stars' and countless singles that crammed endless hooks in their grooves. In the intervening space,
'Tonics And Twisted Chasers' has taken on a mythic status. It's arguably Pollard's strangest, gnarliest, most enlightened record and also the fans first chance to see the stitches that bind his galaxy of songs. It's like peering at the caliber inside a watch, responsible for making the whole enterprise tick. This nineteen-song collaboration with guitarist Tobin Sprout could be interpreted as spontaneous sketches, late-night improvisations, ideas that blossomed later in the timeline ('Knock 'Em Flyin'' and 'Key Losers'), but as with anything in Pollard's orbit, its intention is clear when heard as a cohesive whole. The Pollard tenet that "less is more" is on full display here. The songs rarely creep past ninety seconds and coalesce much like Pollard's collage-styled visual art. Black vinyl edition.

Following the success of Mott The Hoople at the BBC 1970, our second compilation contains further good quality broadcast tracks from Top Gear, Sounds Of The Seventies and The John Peel Sunday Concert. Highlights include rare-as-hens-teeth 'Like A Rolling Stone' and 'When My Mind's Gone.' The versions of more familiar numbers are sourced from their original transmissions without the ubiquitous Brian Mathews' voice-overs. Also included are a brace of tracks from Beat Club and a medley of 'Keep A-Knockin'' and 'What'd I Say' recorded for Australian TV. Comes with full credits and extensive sleeve notes. Sound quality very good except the Sunday concert tracks which are of lesser quality but still totally listenable.

Cutting their teeth as teens in a West Bromwich bedroom, The Sea Urchins were nothing like the heavy metal that seemed to fill every bar in the UK black Country. Fringe haircuts, perfect trousers, suede jackets and infectious tambourines gave plenty of hints as to their youthful ambition, but nothing could fully prepare you for just how utterly spellbinding these songs would be. Compiling their fanzine-only flexi material with the full complement of singles for Sarah Records, 'Stardust' runs chronologically from late 1986 to the middle of 1989, beginning with the singles split for Clare Wadd's Kvatch and Matt Haynes' Sha La La, before hitting the first of what would be an even hundred releases from the new label Wadd and Haynes would form - Sarah. The song that launched a legendary label and defined a sound, a scene, a place and time; 'Pristine Christine' still rings out as immediate and magical today as it did on first listen. What a glorious jangly rush racing around the corners of pop's history! The band would reach such heights time and again over the course of this three year burst. The melancholy swinging folk of 'Everglade' and it's wonderfully yearning vocal; the organ-fueled British invasion garage rock sing-a-long of 'Solace'; the playful psych pop of 'A Morning Odyssey'; the acoustic sweep of 'Wild Grass Pictures'; the perfectly named 'Summershine' leaving you with a ramshackle smile out on the dancefloor. All of it is just so filled with delicate humanity, yet somehow absolutely perfect.
As Bob Stanley said about the shimmering ballad 'Please Rain Fall' while bestowing it with NME Single Of The Week (an honor also bestowed upon 'Pristine Christine'), "think of some variations on the word marvelous and you're most of the way there." In their time, they might have seemed wildly out of step, but it's not crazy to say that things could have been very different for the likes of Radiohead, The La's, and Oasis without The Sea Urchins.

Since the mid-1960s, Jon Gibson has played a key role in the development of American avant-garde music. As a versatile reed player, he has performed with everyone from Steve Reich and Philip Glass to Terry Riley and La Monte Young. In the 1970s, Gibson would emerge as a minimalist composer in his own right and release two exceptional albums, 'Visitations' and 'Two Solo Pieces', on Glass' Chatham Square imprint. 'Songs & Melodies' brings together recordings from 1973 to 1977 (mostly previously unreleased), featuring prominent figures in New York's scene including Arthur Russell, Barbara Benary and Julius Eastman. This double LP collection showcases the breadth of Gibson's expressive range_from introspective piano meditations to cerebral ensemble works_and the subtlety of his radical compositional techniques. The front cover artwork, a hand-drawn diagram by Gibson, originally appeared in the program for a March 1974 concert at Washington Square Church in Greenwich Village. While this concert was not the first to feature the composer exclusively, it would be a pivotal event in Gibson's early career as a composer. When these pieces first appeared, on the adventurous French record label Shandar, they were regarded as defining works within a musical movement that had developed during the late 1960s. Reich was seen as a pioneer of minimalism, along with La Monte Young, Terry Riley and Philip Glass, whose music also featured in the Shandar catalogue. These two tracks from 1970 are purely minimalist, in a way that the visual artists and sculptors who formed Reich's early audiences would have recognised. The gatefold sleeve includes an insert with liner notes by Julian Cowley and a download code.

A double LP reissue of some of the band's earliest material. As originary Aussie industrial legends - although founder Tom Ellard would balk at being branded as such - Severed Heads shaped the continental subcultural sound with their kitchen electronics, chaotic tape loops, and quietly infectious nursery-rhyme-esque melodies. In 1979 Ellard, Richard Fielding, and Andrew Wright abandoned the moniker Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign and adopted the edgier name Severed Heads "to pretend to be an industrial band such as Surgical Penis Klinik and Throbbing Gristle." 'Ear Bitten' was released in 1980; original copies now fetch obscene sums, in part due to most of Severed Heads' copies perishing in a fire at Richard's home. The band's next endeavor was a cassette titled 'Side 2,' a collection of free-form experiments fashioned as 'Ear Bitten's second side. For this reissue, Dark Entries has collected both 'Ear Bitten' and 'Side 2' on the first disc, presenting the album in its full form. Disc two includes the original first version of 'Ear Bitten,' which was only unreleased because it was recorded in a format not suitable for pressing. The album comes in a gatefold sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh and includes photos, liner notes, and reproductions of the original xerox inserts from the 1980 issue. 'Ear Bitten' delivers 22 tracks of pain you can dance to!

Founded by teenage Le Forte Four members Chip Chapman, Joe Potts and Rick Potts and soon joined by Tom Recchion of Doo-Dooettes, LAFMS incorporated free improvisation, modular synthesizers, tape music, sampling, musique concrète, homemade instruments, noise, mail art and avant-rock in permissive and anarchic sessions at the Raymond Building and Poo-Bah Record Shop in old Pasadena. Inspired by The Residents, LAFMS self-released records and periodicals, organized performances and connected with fellow outsiders via post in the years before punk. Their uninhibited, egalitarian ideal of music-making and DIY distribution would influence generations of underground artists. Poo-Bah Records, with its import bins and backroom jam space, attracted the pseudonymous artists forming the initial incarnation of long-running collective Smegma. Early members Ju Suk Reet Meate, Dennis Duck, Cheez-it Ritz, Big Dirty, Amazon Bambi and Dr. Id contributed to various LAFMS compilations and combinations before several core members relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1975, where they recorded their debut album 'Glamour Girl 1941.' Originally released on the LAFMS label in 1979, the LP combines rock instrumentation with tape, synthesizer, horns and voice in a tempestuous cauldron of anti-academy improv and alien noise. Beyond its roots in LAFMS, Smegma would help shape the early Portland punk scene in the late '70s alongside Wipers and Neo Boys. In more recent years, they have collaborated with Merzbow and Wolf Eyes. This first-time vinyl reissue is limited to 500 numbered copies. Comes with insert.

'Sound: An Exhibition Of Sound Sculpture, Instrument Building And Acoustically Tuned Spaces' opened at the Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art in the summer of 1979 (and was also on view later that year at PS1 in New York). Curated by Bob Wilhite and Robert Smith, the exhibition surveyed the field of sound art. The forty-four participants were painters pivoted toward performance, conceptual artists attracted to time-based mediums, self-styled creators of environments, and musicians (formally trained and otherwise) fashioning new instruments from household items and consumer electronics. They were more or less object-oriented and, at the same time, more or less music-oriented. What brought them all together, as the exhibition catalog gamely asserted, was sculpting in three-dimensional space. The 'Sound' exhibit included installations, recordings played in the exhibition space and a series of live performances, demonstrating instruments that otherwise rested inert in the gallery. For a broader sense of the show than a single visit provided, the curators also produced a compilation album featuring short pieces, or excerpts from longer works, by many of the participants. (Artists in the exhibition, but not on the LP included Alvin Lucier and Mike Kelley.) Selections from bright lights of the 20th century avant-garde - such as composers Bill Fontana, Yoshi Wada and Paul DeMarinis; conceptual artists and performance artists Terry Fox, Tom Marioni and Jim Pomeroy; experimental vocalist Joan La Barbara; and Los Angeles Free Music Society members Tom Recchion and John Duncan - feature alongside the sounds of Jim Hobart's tuned jars, Ivor Darreg's fretless banjo, Doug Hollis' aeolian harp and Richard Dunlap's rubber bands. Vor-stellen is the experimental project of Brendan Moran, which blends fixated guitars and drums with ad-hoc electronic layers producing perforated waves of sustain which echoes off the fourth wall. Brendan has released work previously as part of avoid!avoid (their album 'Particle And Wave' was released by Flying Nun in 2016) and The Subliminals, of which Flying Nun re-released -in 2021- a vinyl edition of their highly acclaimed album 'United State.' With Vor-stellen he picks up where those other projects have left off as a foray into 'kraut' inspired compositions "which seek to transform pre-determined ideas of music into open-ended sound objects, untethered from any sense of conventional outcomes." On this, second VS record, he teams up with his Subliminal buddies once again to continue on an exploration, "folding the weird and the eerie into a dark ecology of long-sound via indefatigable environments of modulation and improvisation, creating sonic counterpoints that hinge on a reanimation of musical gestures." The record features two side long slow builders and are released in a beautiful Brendan Moran designed sleeve.

Originally released in 1974 on Shandar, 'Dream House 78'17"' is the second full-length album by La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela. This first-time US edition reproduces the original gatefold sleeve with beautiful calligraphy by Zazeela and liner notes by Young and French musicologist Daniel Caux. Side one was recorded at a private concert (on the date and time indicated by the title) and features Young and Zazeela's voices against a sine wave drone with Jon Hassell on trumpet and Garrett List on trombone. This work is a section of the longer composition 'Map Of 49's Dream The Two Systems Of Eleven Sets Of Galactic Intervals Ornamental Lightyears Tracery' (begun in 1966 as a sub-section of 'The Tortoise, His Dreams And Journeys,' which was begun in 1964 with Young's group The Theatre Of Eternal Music). The piece evolves with the oscillator changing pitch and dictating an ornate pattern over the course of the performance. Side two is an example of one of the sets of frequencies sustained in the 'Dream House,' the composite sound environments conceived by Young and Zazeela. The composer suggests listening while seated - to experience how the sound interacts with the room and other perceptions of its arrangement - as well as while walking. As Young states, "The frequency ratios are monitored continuously as lissajous patterns on the oscilloscopes and, in spite of the great stability of the oscillators, the phase relationships of the sine waves gradually drift which causes their amplitudes to add and subtract algebraically. Not only does the sound become a bit louder and softer, but at very loud levels, one actually begins to have a sensation that parts of the body are somehow locked in sync with the sine waves and slowly drifting with them in space and time."

COMBO XINGU - XINGU
In days of high politicization of music, the so-called New Song was undoubtedly the one that monopolized the media. In that environment appears the Combo Xingu, a band far from the Latin Americanist line and political ebullition, took elements of soul and funk to build this jewel mostly ignored at the time, which is his only legacy. Stevie Wonder and James Brown are their most notorious references, but they also bring their own personality and elements, especially in the song 'Black Power', as the band's position. It is also worth mentioning a memorable interpretation of Led Zeppelin's classic 'Moby Dick'. Far from the conjunctural, the band dissolves with only two years and one album to their credit, separated from the mainstream by a style that although it was very popular in the north, was of null diffusion in Chile, but they leave this unique piece as a sample of other bands that would come years later to continue their legacy, ahead for the times. Finally, the long-awaited reissue of this Australian Soul Jazz masterpiece. Joyce Hurley's first album was recorded in Sydney in 1978 by Joyce Hurley, who learned piano basics in the United States and is currently a European singer, pianist, and composer. Although it has been featured in many record guides and reviews as one of the coveted DJs for a long time, it was, for a long time, a rare LP much sought after by collectors. In addition to the standard number, it is composed of instrumental songs by David Martin Group, who serves as a backing, and Afro-Cuban numbers such as 'Sambole' and 'Here And Now' are the highlights and the killer version of Herbie Hancock's 'Maiden Voyage.' Joyce was a Detroit-born singer who came to Sydney to study at the NSW Conservatorium and recorded this album with the David Martin Group while she was here. The album was recorded at Earth Media Studios in late 1977 and 1978. Comes on 180g vinyl in hard cardboard sleeve with obi.

First volume of legendary Yale concert by Graves and Pullen. The late percussionist Milford Graves was one of the most unique artists the world has ever seen. Born in Jamaica, Queens in 1941, he began his career in the early '60s as a part of New York's vibrant Latin jazz scene. His focus quickly turned inward, shifting towards a practice that explored the very nature of self. From his work in the New York Art Quartet and collaborations with Albert Ayler, Sonny Sharrock and more to his important contributions during NYC's loft era - he is, simply put, free jazz royalty. In April 1966, the duo of Graves and pianist Don Pullen played at Yale University. As John Corbett writes in the liner notes, "This performance was something of a turning point for Graves. Until then he had been working in other people's bands or collective ensembles. He was phenomenally busy. In 1965 alone, he recorded with NYAQ (two LPs), Giuseppi Logan Quartet, Paul Bley Quintet and Lowell Davidson Trio, and he made his first recording released under his own name, 'Percussion Ensemble.' Every one of these is important in its own way, but none of them quite anticipate how radical was the music that he and Pullen would unleash that evening in New Haven." Originally released on the artists' own Self-Reliance Program label, this legendary one-night performance would be split into two volumes: 'In Concert At Yale University' and 'Nommo.' While rooted in African rhythms, Graves' music has its own sense of time. As the drummer stated in a 1966 DownBeat interview, "Time was always there, and the time I see is not the same as what man says time is. It works by impulsion."

BOLA DE NIEVE - BOLA DE NIEVE
Born Ignacio Jacinto Villa Fernández, Cuban pianist Bola de Nieve (literally "Snowball") is one of the big names in Cuban music. He worked as a chauffeur and played piano for silent films until his friend Rita Montaner took him on as an accompanist in the early 1930s. After Montaner returned to Cuba, Bola de Nieve remained in Mexico and developed an original performance style as a pianist and singer. He was an elite rather than a popular figure, a sophisticated cabaret stylist known for ironic patter, subtle musical interpretation, with a repertoire that included songs in French, English, Catalan, Portuguese and Italian. He toured widely in Europe and the Americas, and his friends included Andrés Segovia and Pablo Neruda. He identified as black and gay, and was self-confident in his personality, and accepted for what he was: a memorable talent. This LP compiles some of his most memorable performances, including his visions of hits from the era, traditional tunes and also some self-penned numbers.

Today, Los Diablos Rojos are known around the world for a unique tropical sound that has transcended passing fashions and managed to hold its own in an era marked by transience and oblivion. Over the years, they have become the forerunners of a trend that has been developing for half a century and is gaining more and more praise and recognition. They have become a musical reference for other contemporary tropical music bands that have found in Los Diablos Rojos, above all, an example of creativity and resilience. The Peruvian cumbia band Los Diablos Rojos was born within the quincha and adobe walls of Cañete Chico with a proposal very different from what all the musicians of the time were working on: an instrumental tropical music style of their own. Even Enrique Delgado (Los Destellos), Beto Cuesta (Los Ecos) and Berardo Hernandez (Manzanita Y Su Conjunto), who all found a source of income in música criolla, did not limit themselves to working for hire. They were all crossing the same bridge, the bridge of tropical music. Above all, the sense of renewal was the incentive for this bet. If they wanted to change the paradigm, they would not do it by copying styles they had already heard many times before.

"This LP with Sexteto Caracas will be, from now on, the favorite of all parties with a happy atmosphere, because through its interpretations it has that rhythm and party flavor that we all want to hear and dance to" reads the back cover of the original edition of the great album that the El Palmas Music label has the enormous pleasure of reissuing on vinyl, respecting every detail of its original art. 'Ritmo Y Sabor De Fiesta Con El... Sexteto Caracas,' was launched in 1969 by a small Venezuelan label (Discos Diana), it appeared when salsa was already a consolidated popular phenomenon in the country. The era of the rage of the tasty crossover of genres with guaguancó and boogalú and even soul, of the "superdiscotecas with cinematic sound and psycho-delirious dance floor," as was announced in the promotion of a show at El Palacio del Baile when Caracas was experiencing an impressive cultural explosion.
In this context, the only album by Sexteto Caracas was released, a group of young but seasoned musicians through dozens and dozens of shows, with a luxury musical director (Abiezer M. D'Aubeterre, better known as "Ajoporro," also in charge of the piano and guitar) and the voice of Alfredo Antonio, who had previously ventured into pop music as the singer of the group Chicles. Sexteto Caracas was born in the mid-'60s as the initiative of the timbalero Jesús "Chui" Osuna, who conditioned his own house for the group's rehearsals, and it established itself as it added concerts in that Caracas of great musical revelry until it reached its unique album, a collector's item that El Palmas Music proudly recovers, faithful to its objective of cultural archeology and revaluation of artists who deserve a privileged place in history.

'14 FLAMENCO POP BEAT BIG HITS 1968-1977' - "Flamenco Pop. Just like any other label, it is born out of the need to define in two words a series of songs that share a same stimulus. The term was coined in the late sixties on the eponymous record released by Alfonso Santisteban (Madrid, 1943-Málaga, 2013) and Rafael Ferro, 'Flamenco Pop' (Sintonía, 1969/Música para un Guateque Sideral, 2018), an easy listening wonder with a bossa nova edge that takes flamenco elements and melodies to recreate sophisticated instrumental atmospheres. Santisteban had previously produced recordings for Bambino, Lola Flores, La Polaca or Chacho, and was a renowned soundtrack composer. His pop flamenco shows were more an environmental sound that a pop one, but the label "pop" used as a diminutive for "popular" sets a pace for imagination. Santisteban, Adolfo Waitzman (Argentina, 1930-Madrid, 1998) and Augusto Algueró (Barcelona, 1934-Torremolinos, 2011) were the triumvirate of arrangers/conductors/producers who defined the genre and took it to the charts of the era. Waitzman, who married stylish singer Encarnita Polo in 1969, took his wife to the top of the charts with the single 'Paco, Paco' (RCA, 1969) first, and with the LP 'Encarnita Polo Y Olé' (RCA, 1971) two years later, an LP on which he mixed his love for The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' with popular couplets (or "coplas" as they call them in Spain defining a whole genre) written by Quintero-León-Quiroga, Sevilla's very own answer to Holland-Dozier-Holland at that time. He had previously produced some beat and prog-rock outfits like Canarios, Pop-Tops or the legendary UK ex-pat band The End. Last but not least, Algueró, who married the explosive Carmen Sevilla in 1961, who had already attempted to mold his wife's flamenco talent on the 'Flamenca Ye-Yé' 45 (Philips, 1965), was also a key character in the era thanks to his many soundtracks, among them the iconic 'Tuset Street' (Philips, 1968). The selection of this compilation has a bit of everything. A pack of exuberant "copla" singers presented as a folkloric mod squad: Carmen Sevilla, Encarnita Polo, Rosa Morena, Dolores Abril, Carmen Flores (Lola Flores' sister), Dolores Vargas "La Terremoto" and La Polaca. To name this line-up back in the seventies in front of a Spanish "macho" was an instant activation of his lust.
Pointing out this idea today is possibly a crime of female objectification. On prosecution we'll have Manolo Escobar, Juanito Valderrama, El Principe Gitano, El Noy, Moncho, Richart and Los Nevada. If someone had told me these names a few years ago I would have bet they all came from a typical sixties Spanish film by Mariano Ozores, but do this: drop the needle, close your eyes, hear their stories - no matter if you know the artist or not - and try to fit it in its time (the 1970s, Franco's Spain, grey colors, austerity), but above all do listen to the music. We should refund your money if at any point you think "wtf?." And if your imagination can't go that far, just look for the clips on the films mentioned below."
