After the success of their first Sulatron Records LP and CD 'Make It Better' from 2021 this album is ready to blow your mind! A/lpaca are a psych-punk band formed in 2018 in Mantova, Italy. In these four years spent electrifying venues and festivals across Europe, the UK, and the US (notably including their participation at SXSW in Austin, Texas), A/lpaca have continued writing music, evolving their sound - moving away from "psych" to incorporate more electronic elements - while staying true to their kraut origins and their "sonic" spirit, two of the traits that define them. The themes have also evolved: "The concept of the album," they say, "is probably a continuation of 'Make It Better.' The difference is that the temporary remedy for life, the thing that saves for a while, is no longer music, the club, the concert, and an artistic world to discover and live in, but only the presence of friends, the blurring effect of drinks, and the 'laughter' that pushes away responsibility and the everyday grind." Compared to their debut, A/lpaca have grown both artistically and personally. They've had new experiences and met people who have influenced their way of thinking and writing music. "We've listened to a lot of experimental and electronic music, and met many people from this 'underground' world. Of course, we also continued listening to a lot of punk and other genres closer to our style. We also organized concerts for two years at Arci Tom, and that experience was undoubtedly important for our approach to the new tracks. The fact that it took us so long to make this second album is due to the fact that the process, with its ups and downs, with songs we were initially excited about and others we no longer care for, was quite natural. We wanted to offer something more diverse while still staying true to our compositional style, which relies heavily on melody, riffs, and repetition." "Laughter is something we confront with, understand, and accept all the sides of ourselves that both distinguish and unite us." BARBICAN ESTATE - WAY DOWN EAST
'Way Down East' is Barbican Estate's first album. The title is inspired by D.W. Griffith's film 'Way Down East' and was created with the image of a journey from west to east. Side A is mainly influenced by Western pop culture, while side B is inspired by Eastern mysticism. This album was recorded at Tsubame Studio, a recording studio in Tokyo. Hideki Urawa (Rollo), who has produced Kikagaku Moyo and Satomimagae, was also involved in the mixing and production, and in addition to the organic noise sound produced by vintage equipment, the sound has evolved into a more psychedelic and majestic image.
The artwork and artist photo were designed by Kentaro Takahashi. Co-release between Worst Bassist Records, Echodelick Records and The Weird Beard. Few copies available here, so be fast!

Hailing from the southwest side of Detroit, Michigan, Dusty Rose Gang makes music that sounds like a celebratory summer evening with friends on the beach of the city's crown jewel, Belle Isle. Sulatron Records is proud to announce the release of a very promising new band in the scene, which is like a melting pot of the current and old psychedelic-kraut-noise scene in Germany! And this Krautfuzz album is nothing less than a super intense psychedelic noise fest with guitarlegend J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.! The improvisational band Krautfuzz, with Imari Kokubo on drums, Dirk Dresselhaus on guitar and occasional vocals, and Derek Shirley on bass, is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock, abstract, heavily processed minimalism to pure noise, and is open at the fringes, which also means that they usually invite surprise guests from diverse musical backgrounds for their live shows to play energetic, dynamic, and time-transcending music without a safety net while giving some extra attention to communication in-between each other as well as to the individual subconsciousness. Illustrious guest performers so far were Murat Ertel (Baba Zula), experimental sax player André Vida, Eleni Poulou (ex-The Fall) and Hilary Jeffery (Zeitkratzer), Xambuca's Chandra Shukla on processed e-sitar, and J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), who contributed a bunch of his outstanding electric guitar performances in the second part of this live recording, which organically blend into the transcendental sound approach of Krautfuzz. As the three core members come from a variety of musical activities with the likes of Schneider TM, Faust, Die ANGEL, Locust Fudge, The Still, Monno, Vladislav Delay Quartet, Piratezombiedog or Hi-Speed Dubbing, the premise is to reduce stylistic concepts to their essence, implement moments of CHANCE and allow inspiration from unexpected styles such as contemporary classical or stochastic music. What started with occasional studio sessions in late 2022 has so far led to 5 regular Krautfuzz releases and some live shows that left enthusiastic audiences behind. From the depths of somewhere unsavoury a new album emerges. Pascere Lamia is the classic power trio dynamic, but mutated into an unrelenting and sinister machine. Charlie Butler is known to many as the multi-instrumentalist and prolific dronemeister, based in Scotland. His is an intense back catalogue of sonic shapes to be savoured. Mike Vest sits at the darker end of guitar-centric noiserock. Again, little introduction is needed for those already with an ear to the ground for brutal cult music. Having stumbled across drummer Nick Raybould, a percussionist from a different timeline altogether, Pascere Lamia is the strange fruit thats grown from their collaboration. It's probably poisonous. 'Animals' was released in the U.S. in February 1977. A few months later Columbia Records staged a publicity stunt in New York City to promote the album. A week or two later WNEW-FM began airing spot announcements for another upcoming publicity event. This would be a giant inflatable pink pig launching in Central Park's Sheep Meadow. On this day in 1977, Pink Floyd played their second consecutive concert at New York's Madison Square Garden.

TIBET - PORTA WESTFALICA 1975
Tibet from Werdohl in the Sauerland were founded in 1970/71, but only released their only 7" single in 1976 and their only studio LP in 1979. On July 13th, 1975, they performed at the Goethe open air stage in Barkhausen, which now belongs to Porta Westfalica, an artificial structure created by the planners' brains in 1973. The performance was professionally recorded and has now been remastered by Eroc. Only the last track comes from another source. The sound of the LP is flawless. Tibet played progressive rock in the style of the seventies. Worth mentioning: Only one track of the performance ('Fight Back') is known from the Tibet LP. The 48-page LP booklet contains, among other things, a very readable review by Jürgen Krutzsch of his time with Tibet. The Bellaphon LP by Tibet is well known. Here comes an instrumental live gig from 1975 in top sound quality.

Some will know this moment: suddenly everything is clear. When Lulu (Electric Moon) and Oli (ex-Urlaub in Polen) bump into each other at a concert in the legendary Vortex Surfer music club in Siegen, they both know that same evening: We are a band. They tell Falko, who has just destroyed the club with his instrumental post-metal band Sarkh. Just a few months later, the first songs were arranged during the first rehearsals - fragments of poetry and word play written by Oli, melodic
lines and ideas that were taken up by the band and subsidized and refined on the respective instruments. The debut 'White Clouds' was created in less than a year - recorded, mixed and mastered in Falko's underground recording studio Institut Für
Angewandten Krach. During that time, the band attends one of the last concerts of the wonderful noise post-math rock band Shellac in Amsterdam. All three are equally deeply impressed and moved by this show and incorporate Steve Albini's spirit into their debut, which they ultimately dedicated to him. Added to this is their very own drift - pain and hope, the unconditional will of rock'n'roll, depth and steep flight, highly dynamic, playful, hypnotic-driving passages and repeated melodies with resonance, as well as the connection between the three musicians, promise a debut and live concerts with a yeah factor.

Hailing from the southwest side of Detroit, Michigan, Dusty Rose Gang makes music that sounds like a celebratory summer evening with friends on the beach of the city's crown jewel, Belle Isle. The band's feel-good rock & roll rests its laurels alongside many of the city's musical heavyweights, bringing a swagger and heft present in the best of the MC5 and the Stooges, while balancing the subtle tones and attitude found in prime-era Sabbath, Queen, Jimi Hendrix and the Flower Travellin' Band. It should be no surprise that the band's songwriter, Dusty Rose, haunted the same high school halls as the MC5 at Lincoln Park High, as much of the attitude, poise and spirit can be found on the band's 'A-One From Day One' long player debut for the legendary Riding Easy Records. The songs shimmer and shake, shredding through solo after solo, while packing just enough hazy '70s influence to make it sound like Dusty Rose Gang has been here all along. This is Detroit rock n' roll made by lifers for lifers, the no-bullshit real deal that the Motor City has been breathing since before Gene Simmons coined the term 'Detroit Rock City.'

Sulatron Records is proud to announce the release of a very promising new band in the scene, which is like a melting pot of the current and old psychedelic-kraut-noise scene in Germany! And this Krautfuzz album is nothing less than a super intense psychedelic noise fest with guitarlegend J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.! The improvisational band Krautfuzz, with Imari Kokubo on drums, Dirk Dresselhaus on guitar and occasional vocals, and Derek Shirley on bass, is embossed by an angular-futuristic tension, spanning from fuzzed-out neo-psych-rock, abstract, heavily processed minimalism to pure noise, and is open at the fringes, which also means that they usually invite surprise guests from diverse musical backgrounds for their live shows to play energetic, dynamic, and time-transcending music without a safety net while giving some extra attention to communication in-between each other as well as to the individual subconsciousness. Illustrious guest performers so far were Murat Ertel (Baba Zula), experimental sax player André Vida, Eleni Poulou (ex-The Fall) and Hilary Jeffery (Zeitkratzer), Xambuca's Chandra Shukla on processed e-sitar, and J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), who contributed a bunch of his outstanding electric guitar performances in the second part of this live recording, which organically blend into the transcendental sound approach of Krautfuzz. As the three core members come from a variety of musical activities with the likes of Schneider TM, Faust, Die ANGEL, Locust Fudge, The Still, Monno, Vladislav Delay Quartet, Piratezombiedog or Hi-Speed Dubbing, the premise is to reduce stylistic concepts to their essence, implement moments of CHANCE and allow inspiration from unexpected styles such as contemporary classical or stochastic music. What started with occasional studio sessions in late 2022 has so far led to 5 regular Krautfuzz releases and some live shows that left enthusiastic audiences behind. Performed and recorded live on June 15th 2024 at Ev. Kirchengemeinde Genezareth, Berlin. Live mix and recording: Jaike Stambach.

This is the 34th studio album by the Oresund Space Collective. Following in the footsteps of previous albums this one starts off with an epic 50 minute track that takes into the depths of space and back in under an hour. 'Slow To Fast First Rays' is a beautiful melodic piece of music and then halfway, picks up into an uptempo jam, a bit funky at times, a bit dissonant. 'Weberian Bass' is a sort of hypnotic piece with fantastic guitar lines and synth textures to support the track. 'Tangled Foot Badger' is where things get a bit strange and experimental and you got a trip into a new magical world to disappear forever. 'Echoes Ambientic' is a more ambient synth based mellow track and a good way to come down at the end of the 2nd CD. Limited to 300 copies in 6-sided digisleeve.

Spawing as a reaction to the lack of creativity among punk bands in Utrecht at the time of the original release of their debut album (1981), this legendary Dutch quartet embraced an approach slower, darker, and more bass-driven than on their 'Dead Excitement' EP from 1980.
The bass of Heino is the lead melodic instrument here, while Gang Of Four-inspired attacks issue from the guitar. The drums churns the heaviness in different directions, particularly on tracks like 'Birds' and 'My Ideal Man'. But it's the thoughtful lyrics and unique voice that separate the group from rest; delivering a distance but honest, with a tone that makes you feel like hthe vocalist'd seen things you don't and may never understand.

ROBERT emerged from the ashes of anarchic punk collective ?FOG, active in Auckland's underground scene from 1984. Originally formed by Roger Allen and Lindsay McKay, and later joined by vocalist Sam Swan, the group thrived in the chaos of The Red House_a hub for experimental art and music. Known for confrontational performances and a fluid lineup, they released a 7" EP in 1985 before rebranding as ROBERT. With support from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, they recorded and self-released ROBERT THE RECORD in 1986.
This 40th anniversary reissue includes a 16-page full color booklet of photos and an interview conducted by Stuart Page (THE AXEMEN) with band members Roger Fogorelli and Lindsay Fog. Plus, a reprint of the bonus questionnaire that was included in the original release.

Released in 1981, Now available again as an LP including CD! 'Here We Are' by Sphinx was a visionary blend of progressive rock and heavy metal. The band, formed by sons of Italian guest workers in Stuttgart, mixed powerful guitars with playful keyboards and complex rhythm changes. Guitarist Thomas Metzger, later known as Tommy Newton, shaped the band's sound.
The album was re-released in 1985 under the title 'Burning Lights' but never received the recognition it deserved at the time. Today, it is considered a cult classic, especially among metal fans.

AHOE-AHOEA - TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES
Ahoe-Ahoea started and ended in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. They were short-lived and little-known, and their footprint in the history of Dutch DIY might have escaped detection if not for their self-released cassette in 1983. Relative to that of its surrounding countries, the '80s post punk/"DIY" scene of The Netherlands remains largely unexplored. If the famous 'Messthetics' series had focused on the Dutch instead of the English, surely Ahoe-Ahoea would have found a place on Issue #101.
Determined not to take themselves too seriously, they performed their first show as Na Een Keer Oefenen (After One Rehearsal) before eventually choosing the name Ahoe-Ahoea, a reference to the Tarzan films of the 1930s. The band's playfulness and sense of humor is an important part of their approach, but these elements are carefully balanced with sincerity, great songwriting and brilliant lyrics. While the opening track hinges on the ululating yell of Tarzan, as portrayed by actor Johnny Weissmuller in the film from 1932, it also explores themes of genocide, racism, the destruction of culture and the melding of totalitarianism and ignorance. The TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES LP is a reissue of Ahoe-Ahoea's outstanding and under-circulated cassette from 1983.

Presented on 180-GRAM VINYL (500 copies made) is a collection of songs from the archives of the friends and family of Sam Jayne, the indie musician best known as the frontman of Love As Laughter and Lync who passed away in 2020. It's an assembly of 10 songs spanning over 20 years that were compiled from home demos, studio outtakes, obscure compilations and out of print EPs. Many of these recordings were never released on a vinyl album format until now. Expect a condensed and intimate collection of five cover songs and five original compositions that embody Sam's endless depth of wit, absurdity, humility, passion, and heartache.

T.C. Matic was a Belgian rock band founded in 1980 in Brussels. Centered on singer Arno Hintjens and guitarist Jean-Marie Aerts, the band played a kind of music sometimes referred to as "eurorock", containing various styles including new wave, blues, funk, hard rock, avant-garde and French chanson. On their 2nd album, L'Apache you can hear the band at their peak.
This reissue also contains the bonus track 'Mummy.' "'I Love You, Honeybear' is a concept album about a guy named Josh Tillman who spends quite a bit of time banging his head against walls, cultivating weak ties with strangers and generally avoiding intimacy at all costs. This all serves to fuel a version of himself that his self-loathing narcissism can deal with. We see him engaging in all manner of regrettable behavior. In a parking lot somewhere he meets Emma, who inspires in him a vision of a life wherein being truly seen is not synonymous with shame, but possibly true liberation and sublime, unfettered creativity. These ambitions are initially thwarted as jealousy, self-destruction and other charming human character traits emerge. Josh Tillman confesses as much all throughout." The album progresses, sometimes chronologically, sometimes not, between two polarities: the first of which is the belief that the best love can be is finding someone who is miserable in the same way you are and the end point being that love isn't for anyone who isn't interested in finding a companion to undertake total transformation with. I won't give away the ending, but sex, violence, profanity and excavations of the male psyche abound. My ambition, aside from making an indulgent, soulful, and epic sound worthy of the subject matter, was to address the sensuality of fear, the terrifying force of love, the unutterable pleasures of true intimacy, and the destruction of emotional and intellectual prisons in my own voice. Blammo. This material demanded a new way of being made, and it took a lot of time before the process revealed itself. The massive, deranged shmaltz I heard in my head, and knew had to be the sound of this record, originated a few years ago while Emma and I were hallucinating in Joshua Tree; the same week I wrote the title track. I chased that sound for the entire year and half we were recording. The means by which it was achieved bore a striking resemblance to the travails, abandon and transformation of learning how to love and be loved; see and be seen. There: I said it. This is a limited double-LP collection of artists who've been on either Fourth Dimension Records or Lumberton Trading Company, or are even indirectly associated. The title, based on the name of a childhood '50s sci-fi film favourite, not only reflects the bringing together of these two labels but also the fact that most of the artists they are concerned with tend to navigate a wide range of ideas and approaches. The 2LP also began as a reflection of the two labels coming together on 18 May 2024 at London's Cafe OTO for an event featuring Alternative TV, Splintered, Edward Ka-Spel and Bass Communion. This was the third such label event in London and sold out. The album was initially supposed to tie in with this event but due to growing into something bigger and more expansive (and expensive!) has had to wait a while. The 2LP, beautifully packaged in a Puppy38 designed sleeve, includes the following artists mostly with exclusive tracks.

After the release of 2017's 'Chroma,' Buzz Kull (real name Marc Dwyer), returned with his sophomore album the year after. Traversing EBM, darkwave and goth sounds with ease, 'New Kind Of Cross' traverses much darker waters than Dwyer's last effort, speaking to the rapid change and tension at play in Dwyer's own life. Marc spends a good portion of each year in a new city every night - and when settled in Sydney, is constantly between jobs. In 1995, Masters Of Funk's representative song 'Kool Like Otis' was used as a commercial song for a certain domestic car
manufacturer, and its fast-paced, jazzy and funky hip-hop sound became a hot topic. The R&B song '(Love) Undeniable' was played a lot when it was released, and now it's the first time it's been released on a 7-inch by W-SIDER, selected by PoLoGod.
In particular, side A's 'Kool Like Otis' is a representative jazzy and funky hip-hop song that was played by many DJs on 12-inch at the time. If you like Digable Planets/'Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat),' check this out! Use the thick drum groove in the intro with two discs!

'Action Speaks Louder Than Words' is the 1975 debut album by Chocolate Milk, a funk and soul band from New Orleans. The band emerged in the mid-1970s and quickly gained recognition for their unique sound that blended the rich musical traditions of their hometown with the influences of contemporary funk and soul. The band was endlessley sampled by numerous artists, including Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim, Aaliyah, Neneh Cherry and Toni Braxton feat. The Notorious B.I.G & Puff Daddy, cementing its place in music history. 'Action Speaks Louder Than Words' is available as a limited edition of 500 copies on blue vinyl.

Official reissue of Coke's audacious, engrossing self-titled album from 1972, originally released on Manuel J. Mato's collectible Sound Triangle Records imprint. It's a heavy hit of Miami Latin-funk, dosed up with psychedelic garage rock and gritty soul excellence, making for an intoxicating blend of styles and genres on this highly sought-after LP. Predominately sung in English, Coke's only album under this moniker is a sumptuous melting pot of influences, tied together with bright funk drumming, flavourful organs and zesty horns. With a garage band attitude and sensibility, the lineup consisted of Paul Garcia on guitar, Ariel Hernandez on bass, Ruben Perez on drums, Jose Rubio on the keys, a host of guest horn players and Peter Fernandez on vocals, whose tone and delivery was often mistaken for that of a woman. Produced by Mato, the record and band were well-received in Miami and Southern Florida at the time. Due to a lack of promotion outside of Florida and the threat of a lawsuit from the Coca-Cola corporation for usage of their name, the band fell into relative obscurity, becoming Opus following the dispute. They say the cream always rises to the top though, with Coke being rediscovered by diggers and collectors searching for a rare groove. One of the standout cuts on the album 'Na Na' was recently featured on the soundtrack to the Netflix drama 'Griselda' (a biopic of Miami/Cuban crime boss Griselda Blanco). Other highlights include the crooner-jazz-rock 'Got To Touch Your Face,' the psych ballad 'You Turn Me On' with a guitar line reminiscent of The Doors, and the Latin-rock groover, 'Te Amo Mas.' Coke is a sensational crossover record, that draws from a sea of different influences. Fans of early Santana, garage-psych, Nu Yorican and Latin-funk productions should all investigate this cherished album - it will have something for you.

Singer James Ambrose Johnson, born on February 1, 1948, in Buffalo, New York, fled to Toronto, Canada, to avoid the draft. There, he started The Mynah Birds, a rhythm & blues band and changed his name to Rick James. In 1966, Neil Young joined the band, but their journey ended when James was exposed as a draft dodger and jailed. After serving his time, Rick James joined several bands, including The Great White Cane, and developed his unique funk style. In 1978, Motown signed him to their Gordy Records, releasing his debut solo album Come And Get It!
Rick James Collected includes most of his hits and early songs and the 2LP, is available on black vinyl and includes liner notes.

Source of an all-time 'Breaks and Beats' classic, Mr Bongo reissues Herman Kelly's timeless 1978 album 'Percussion Explosion!.' Immortalised in hip-hop folklore, when the anthemic 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat' was featured on the influential 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' compilation series in 1986. 'Percussion Explosion!' was the brainchild of drummer, percussionist, producer and arranger, Herman Kelly and his percussive disco-funk group from Miami, Life, that featured Aaron McCarthy, Oliver Well, John DeMonica, Michal Cordoza and Travis Biggs. The album houses a collection of disco, funk and Latin-inspired cuts that were destined for greatness. Nestled within the grooves is the B-Boy and B-Girl's anthem, 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' which contains a now legendary break. A cursory glance at Whosampled will show that it has been sampled in over 125+ songs. These include Double Dee & Steinski on their groundbreaking 1985 production 'Lesson 3 (History Of Hip Hop Mix),' as well as by DJ Shadow, N.W.A, Masters At Work, Run D.M.C. and a whole host of heavyweights across hip-hop, dance and pop music. When the album was released in 1978 it came out on two different labels, Alston Records and Electric Cat. Each label pressed different versions of 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' with the former featuring a 4:12 version and the latter a longer 5:09 version that has a different structure, crowd noise at the start and overdubbed percussion. For this Mr Bongo reissue, they have chosen the classic 4:12 version from the Alston Records release, which would later find its way on to the illustrious 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' compilation. To make matters even more confusing the Alston version art on the back cover also states the track length as 5:09, whilst the centre label lists it correctly as 4:12. Aside from the much celebrated 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' the album includes a range of other fantastic overlooked cuts. From the percussive soul stepper 'Share Your Love,' to the beautiful Latin-flavoured 'A Refreshing Love' or the party disco-funk groover 'Who's The Funky D.J.?.' This wonderful and inspirational record features an important piece of hip-hop heritage and deserves a place in every collection.

Official reissue of Coke's audacious, engrossing self-titled album from 1972, originally released on Manuel J. Mato's collectible Sound Triangle Records imprint. It's a heavy hit of Miami Latin-funk, dosed up with psychedelic garage rock and gritty soul excellence, making for an intoxicating blend of styles and genres on this highly sought-after LP. Predominately sung in English, Coke's only album under this moniker is a sumptuous melting pot of influences, tied together with bright funk drumming, flavourful organs and zesty horns. With a garage band attitude and sensibility, the lineup consisted of Paul Garcia on guitar, Ariel Hernandez on bass, Ruben Perez on drums, Jose Rubio on the keys, a host of guest horn players and Peter Fernandez on vocals, whose tone and delivery was often mistaken for that of a woman. Produced by Mato, the record and band were well-received in Miami and Southern Florida at the time. Due to a lack of promotion outside of Florida and the threat of a lawsuit from the Coca-Cola corporation for usage of their name, the band fell into relative obscurity, becoming Opus following the dispute. They say the cream always rises to the top though, with Coke being rediscovered by diggers and collectors searching for a rare groove. One of the standout cuts on the album 'Na Na' was recently featured on the soundtrack to the Netflix drama 'Griselda' (a biopic of Miami/Cuban crime boss Griselda Blanco). Other highlights include the crooner-jazz-rock 'Got To Touch Your Face,' the psych ballad 'You Turn Me On' with a guitar line reminiscent of The Doors, and the Latin-rock groover, 'Te Amo Mas.' Coke is a sensational crossover record, that draws from a sea of different influences. Fans of early Santana, garage-psych, Nu Yorican and Latin-funk productions should all investigate this cherished album - it will have something for you.

Source of an all-time 'Breaks and Beats' classic, Mr Bongo reissues Herman Kelly's timeless 1978 album 'Percussion Explosion!.' Immortalised in hip-hop folklore, when the anthemic 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat' was featured on the influential 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' compilation series in 1986. 'Percussion Explosion!' was the brainchild of drummer, percussionist, producer and arranger, Herman Kelly and his percussive disco-funk group from Miami, Life, that featured Aaron McCarthy, Oliver Well, John DeMonica, Michal Cordoza and Travis Biggs. The album houses a collection of disco, funk and Latin-inspired cuts that were destined for greatness. Nestled within the grooves is the B-Boy and B-Girl's anthem, 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' which contains a now legendary break. A cursory glance at Whosampled will show that it has been sampled in over 125+ songs. These include Double Dee & Steinski on their groundbreaking 1985 production 'Lesson 3 (History Of Hip Hop Mix),' as well as by DJ Shadow, N.W.A, Masters At Work, Run D.M.C. and a whole host of heavyweights across hip-hop, dance and pop music. When the album was released in 1978 it came out on two different labels, Alston Records and Electric Cat. Each label pressed different versions of 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' with the former featuring a 4:12 version and the latter a longer 5:09 version that has a different structure, crowd noise at the start and overdubbed percussion. For this Mr Bongo reissue, they have chosen the classic 4:12 version from the Alston Records release, which would later find its way on to the illustrious 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' compilation. To make matters even more confusing the Alston version art on the back cover also states the track length as 5:09, whilst the centre label lists it correctly as 4:12. Aside from the much celebrated 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat,' the album includes a range of other fantastic overlooked cuts. From the percussive soul stepper 'Share Your Love,' to the beautiful Latin-flavoured 'A Refreshing Love' or the party disco-funk groover 'Who's The Funky D.J.?.' This wonderful and inspirational record features an important piece of hip-hop heritage and deserves a place in every collection.

Before the band recorded their own work they backed Van Morrison in the gap between his departure from Them and the beginning of his solo career. In 2016, nine young men from different parts of Diepkloof, a celebrated neighbourhood brimming with talent within Soweto's sprawling township, came together to form the sound of a new South Africa under the name Diepkloof United Voice. Diepkloof United Voice's music has gone viral multiple times on TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, garnering between 60,000 to 2 million views. The comments section displays flag emojis from Brazil to India, showcasing the global reach of their music. This album was recorded on site in Soweto, in an abandoned classroom of Lebowa Elementary School in Diepkloof Zone 3, where the choir rehearsed for years. Diepkloof United Voice's music has gone viral multiple times on TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook, garnering between 60,000 to 2 million views. The comments section displays flag emojis from Brazil to India, showcasing the global reach of their music. This album was recorded on site in Soweto, in an abandoned classroom of Lebowa Elementary School in Diepkloof Zone 3, where the choir rehearsed for years. Amid rolling blackouts, Diepkloof United Voice poured their heart, soul, and vocal chords into their debut record, combining classic South Africa gospel, Soweto's own kasi soul, American blues, and Zulu flavor, to present the contemporary gospel sound of a changing South Africa. The promise of a new South Africa might finally be realized, as Diepkloof United Voice guarantees the country's future is guided by the truth, uttered with each gasp of breath from their inimitable voices. Repress! 'Transa' is the fourth album by Brazilian musician Caetano Veloso, released on 1972 by PolyGram. Like its predecessor, it was recorded while the artist was exiled in London, though he returned to Brazil shortly after completing it. Evocative, eclectic, intimate, and rhythmically complex, 'Transa' contains everything that has made Caetano Veloso the most distinctive and, arguably, most important voice in modern Brazilian music. The record was cut in 1972, shortly after Veloso's return from political exile in England. Though the songs are not overtly political, they seem allegorical, celebratory, and plaintive at once, and point to a tension between the artist's expressive impulse and the strictures of his native country. This tension is further heightened by the presence of lyrics in both English and Portuguese. The beautiful, desperate 'You Don't Know Me' may be the world's first bilingual bossa nova/folk-punk anthem of identity. The jazzy 'Nine Out Of Ten' gives way to the gear-shifting 'Triste Bahia,' which features webs of accelerating Brazilian percussion. A spare treatment of the classic samba 'Mora Na Filosofia,' the cosmic ditty 'Neolithic Man,' and the 12-bar 'Nostalgia,' (ending with the wise line "That's what rock & roll is all about") close out the set. 'Transa' is a jewel in Veloso's discography and a must for anyone interested in Brazilian pop--or brilliant, original pop in general.
