This iconic introduction is from Rod Serling's timeless and influential television program 'The Twilight Zone.' Perhaps he would also apply this description to 'Can Con,' the debut album by The Psych Fi's. The group is an offshoot of Canadian singer-songwriter Jerry Leger's rock'n'roll side project The Del Fi's. Just as The Psych Fi's describe themselves as "spontaneous psychedelic rock," The Del Fi's recorded two albums characterized by spontaneity, spirit, and trust. This time Leger brings his songs to a revolving door of musicians and singers (18 members, including Jerry, in the case of 'Can Con'). Most of the performers have not heard these compositions before recording them. They have no chance to second-guess; they must be fearless and jump in with both feet. Mountain was the legendary American rock band led by Leslie West. The band was formed by West and Felix Pappalardi in 1969 playing one of its early dates at the equally legendary Woodstock Festival in August 1969. In September 1969 Corky Laing joined Mountain replacing original drummer Norman Smart. They became a major live draw, following hard on the heels of Cream and Jimi Hendrix and the band's improvisational approach really took off in a concert setting. Now on CD - Fairport Convention's professionally re-mastered full-length Syndicated radio broadcast from their Philadelphia Folk Festival performance in 1970. The concert was performed at Old Pool Farm, Schwenksvilleon August 29, 1970. The arguably strongest line-up in Fairport Convention's long and illustrious history went on their first US tour in May 1970, opening for Jethro Tull. They returned in the summer to play the 9th annual Philadelphia Folk Festival on a Saturday afternoon where the Fairport rituals were duly carried out through the rigs, reels and laments of Fairport's 'Full House'-era setlist with gusto, providing a perfect launchpad for the delightful guitar/electric fiddle duels of Thompson and Swarbrick. The single's main side 'I Am Low' is a crude pounder in the long tradition of Cheater Slicks, but has the addition of wild alto sax solos by Bobb Hatt. The lyrics are from a poem by Phil Milstein, who started the Velvet Underground Appreciation Society back in the early '80s. On the flipside is a Bo Diddley song done in Slicks style with lots of fuzz guitar, and bass by James Arthur (Fireworks, Necessary Evils, Manhunt) and piano by Will Foster. Cheater Slicks are known for doing strong 7" releases, and this one, 37 years through their story, might top them all! Get it while you can and don't miss out on this fantastic new single! One of the best kept secrets of the Italian hardcore scene. Manimal took shape in the mid-1980s, in the tumultuous era of the Roman underground uprising. They've been actually one of the first hardcore bands - with label mates High Circle - rising from the ashes of the capital city punk scene. In 1985 they've been part of the historical German pack altogether with Negazione and Indigesti, a tour that made literally history! In 1986 they recorded their sole self titled album. The record saw the light on the legendary Contagio Records and was a furious example of the contemporary attack to the system. Eleven tracks in total with three of them previously appeared on 'Subject To Blackout,' a cultish American tape compilation (with early Offspring, Excel and Attitude Adjustment). No compromise classic Italian hardcore with fast guitar riffs, elaborate bass lines and hard-hitting drums. A necessary rediscovery that further delineates the greatness of the Italian scene in the early eighties.

During the 'Fly On The Wall' tour, serial killer Richard Ramirez was criticized as a Satanist, even by AC/DC, because he sought AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' as the motive for his murders and wore an AC/DC shirt and cap when he committed the crimes. Due to such circumstances, few live recordings from this period have been officially released, but this is a genuine live band, and their performance potential has not diminished at all. Comes on red vinyl.

Formed in London in 1968, Deep Purple remain among the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock, but their musical approach has changed over the years. Bona Dish were a scratchy pop punk group from Hertfordshire villages, brought together by their love of the Velvets, Supremes and each other. They were cool, handsome and gorgeous. The songs are simple but at the same time complex. The two girls, two boy's line-up added a tension that was both sexual and musically fragile. You felt it might all fall apart any second but it rarely did. After their "cassette in a tube" ploy worked for John Peel play, the band released a cassette on InPhaze and disbanded not long after. Collected here is a rediscovered gem showcasing the zest and spontaneity that gripped the UK DIY scene of the time, standing up to their contemporaries like Television Personalities, The Homosexuals and Marine Girls. This release marks the first vinyl release for Bona Dish, their complete recorded output compiled and newly mastered.

Still, the album's subjects, tone and references are almost entirely modern; the presence of Indian modalities, for example, seems to dutifully acknowledge the country's post-war multicultural make-up... in case you've forgotten that this is modern music made with an eye to the future, whatever that may bring. That said, 'Down To The Marshes', is somewhat brighter, almost optimistic in a manner that the two previous albums were not, though with a slightly ambiguous tone.

The Ruins' eponymous EP (also known as the "gray record") was originally released in the late spring of 1984 and in fact represents a significant moment in the Italian independent music scene of the early 1980s. The then contemporary burgeoning wave of entertainment music contaminated by experimental accents and conveyed essentially by electronic instruments saw the Ruins at the forefront. The band, essentially a duo, formed in Mestre (Venice) in 1978, had already carved out a window of national attention within the Italian new wave in 1981 with their first single 'Short Wave' and their participation in one of the very first (if not the very first) Italian new wave compilations entitled 'Samples Only.' There is also a Special Guest in the shape of vocalist Ronnie Spector. The band has recorded or performed several Springsteen songs, including 'The Fever' featured here.

David Lance Callahan's 2024 delivery 'Down To The Marshes' partially relies, as did the two volumes of 'English Primitive' which preceded it, on strands of vaguely arcane British Isles folk music. Still, the album's subjects, tone and references are almost entirely modern; the presence of Indian modalities, for example, seems to dutifully acknowledge the country's post-war multicultural make-up... in case you've forgotten that this is modern music made with an eye to the future, whatever that may bring. That said, 'Down To The Marshes', is somewhat brighter, almost optimistic in a manner that the two previous albums were not, though with a slightly ambiguous tone.

DARK ENTRIES		 SEVERED HEADS - EAR BITTEN (2LP)

A double LP reissue of some of the band's earliest material. As originary Aussie industrial legends - although founder Tom Ellard would balk at being branded as such - Severed Heads shaped the continental subcultural sound with their kitchen electronics, chaotic tape loops, and quietly infectious nursery-rhyme-esque melodies. In 1979 Ellard, Richard Fielding, and Andrew Wright abandoned the moniker Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign and adopted the edgier name Severed Heads "to pretend to be an industrial band such as Surgical Penis Klinik and Throbbing Gristle." 'Ear Bitten' was released in 1980; original copies now fetch obscene sums, in part due to most of Severed Heads' copies perishing in a fire at Richard's home. The band's next endeavor was a cassette titled 'Side 2,' a collection of free-form experiments fashioned as 'Ear Bitten's second side. For this reissue, Dark Entries has collected both 'Ear Bitten' and 'Side 2' on the first disc, presenting the album in its full form. Disc two includes the original first version of 'Ear Bitten,' which was only unreleased because it was recorded in a format not suitable for pressing. The album comes in a gatefold sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh and includes photos, liner notes, and reproductions of the original xerox inserts from the 1980 issue. 'Ear Bitten' delivers 22 tracks of pain you can dance to!

Nobody remembers when The Album was recorded, they say it was about 20 years ago. You might know the people behind the project by their future works, but now they want to hide the names. These sounds came from a very dark realm, pure evil showed its face on the nights of these music sessions. The human personalities were replaced by ancient spirits from the underworld. It has taken bodies and minds and created their unholy message through them. It was not one demon and it wasn't company. The blasphemous energy without gender, sex, or number. It could be anything and everything it wanted to be, could split itself into parts or merge into one. The synths were new to the artists but when the spirit of ancient even possessed them they knew what to do. The vision was clear and it wasn't their vision. All the knowledge disappeared after the sessions were done. The 40 minutes of the evil spells, secret codes, and the instructions for the unholy souls of this world are left. It has no author, no name, no title. It's just IT. The sessions weren't released or listened to but left in an archive. The darkest and blackest experiences of losing control of the bodies and minds were scary and traumatizing. The musicians tried to forget it without a chance, their path was predetermined to the dark music. Nothing ever gave them the same feeling again and despite the fear they wanted the same experience again looking for it over and over. The fear and the evil became their addiction. They don't remember The Album until late 2023 when the record has popped up from the basement of memories. Dark and lonely nights in the middle of nowhere, home studio, and the old mystical record - it was the second contact with IT and they know it's the last one. It will never come to them again. The fragile human bodies and minds can't stand it one more time. That was the same clear vision and instructions, the last farewell. The original session was slightly reworked, one 40-minute session transformed into 5 spells for the dark souls. The new portion of evil poison from Eternal Pride is only for those who dedicated themselves to pure darkness. Extremely limited tape edition, an unknown number of copies (some random number of the copies will be destroyed). Complete unknowableness.

Maestro Jiro Inagaki, in a particularly inspired year in which he also released the album 'Funky Stuff' also on Nippon Columbia, flawlessly manipulates the rare-groove by covering songs of Quincy Jones, Commodores, Graham Central Station, B.T. Express, Kool & The Gang, Stevie Wonder, Sly & The Family Stone, Ohio Players, Ripple & Billy Preston. The songs are arranged by himself and Hiromasa Suzuki, another high-sounding name in Japanese jazz. The musicians are experienced session men; congas and choristers are also present. Inagaki's open-mindedness and curiosity about all genres of music that surrounded him meant that over the years he became involved from jazz to popular music of the East, the hippie movement, funk, city pop, and more; and all succeeded him as original and credible thanks to his enthusiasm, perseverance, and skills as an arranger as well as a musician; even his time spent in America since 1969 helped him broaden his horizons. The purpose of this album was to have fun and entertain while engaging the listener with a strongly danceable sound. Even now the album is fresh and enjoyable for disco lovers and of course DJs. Originally released in 1975.

Amanda, a London-born musician, has a rich history in music by playing rhythm guitar in various bands, including her own Ancestral Home. Amanda then toured the Caribbean and Africa with the group Emashi and later performed with a Bob Marley tribute band. Her first full album, 'Roots Of Rectitude,' came out in 2013, followed by the EP 'The Food Of Life.' In 2019, her remix of 'Wild World' hit number one on the Stevie J Stingdem Radio Chart Show. During the 2020 pandemic, Amanda continued to create music, eventually collaborating with Leon Leiffer (The Blackstones), Alien Dread, and Iron Sound Records to produce this album.

With their name, London's four-piece jazz group Unknown To Known seem to prophesy their own rise to prominence, one that is especially more likely to unfold in a continual way now that they've released their next LP 'Lightship.' Although it was a big commercial success, reaching number two on the LP charts, this record would typify the erratic nature of much of Charles' '60s output - encompassing pop standards, lowdown blues, Mel Tormé songs, and after-hours ballads. Plus, if you love '50s and '60s jazz and pop vocals you cannot go wrong here. The sound is tonally correct, Tubey Magical and above all natural. The timbre of each and every instrument is right and it doesn't take a pair of golden ears to hear it.

Higher price! Another band that deserved much more consideration than they got, Murple released a single beautiful album in 1974 on the German Basf label, one of very few Italian releases on this label, that didn't care to promote the group at all and issued the record long after its recording. It's a shame, because 'Io Sono Murple' is a very regarding album, well presented in a fantasy cover and with lyric insert, and very well played by this experienced four-piece from Rome. The album contains a long suite divided on the two sides, based on the story of a penguin, and even if the lyrics are somehow naive, the music is very good, with classical inspirations especially in the keyboard playing and nice guitar parts. Vinyl reissue with the same gatefold cover and insert as the original from 1974.

Ancient Grease Records launched a successful campaign with feet on the ground in Florida to find these heavy rock maniacs and made their breakthrough in late 2020. Repress. Unbelievably great psychedelic garage rock from 1966-1968. Including songs written by Mars Bonfire, their material is up there with the 13th Floor Elevators, Love and the Seeds in quality, but with an outsider edge to it. Human Expression was a tough as nails deep heavy group who, in spite of releasing three cool singles, never got the exposure they deserved back in the day. A few songs leaked out on vinyl on psych comps ('Optical Sound', 'Love At Psychedelic Velocity' and 'Reading Your Will') but the rest has not been on vinyl until now. Beautiful singer/songwriter ballads and frantic rockers sit side by side, creating a truly great lost classic of the 1960's.

Repress! 'Protest And Spirit Jazz From France 1970-1976'. While singles from the Stones, Who, Kinks and MC5 provided an incendiary soundtrack for the revolution, it was Black Americans who truly blew the world from its foundations in the 60s. Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Eric Dolphy, Albert Ayler and Archie Shepp left behind the jazz of their fathers' generation, liberating the notes, trashing the structures, diving headfirst into furious improvisations, inventing a new land without boundaries - neither spiritual nor political. Free jazz endowed the saxophone with the power to destroy the established order. In 1969, the Art Ensemble of Chicago arrived at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier in Paris and a new fuse was lit. Their multi-instrumentalism made use of a varied multiplicity of "little instruments" (including bicycle bells, wind chimes, steel drums, vibraphone and djembe: they left no stone unturned), which they employed according to their inspirations. The group's stage appearance shocked as well. They wore boubous (traditional African robes) and war paint to venerate the power of their free, hypnotic music, directly linked to their African roots. They were predestined to meet up with the Saravah record label (founded in 1965 by Pierre Barouh), already at the vanguard of as-yet unnamed world music. Repress in digipack with new barcode. 'Under Acid Hoof' is this Greek band's second full-length album. The album was recorded in 2019, mixed and mastered by Dionysis Dimitrakos of Descent Studios, who also worked with the band for their debut album back in 2017. Drums were recorded in Dope of Sound Studios in Athens. The album is a direct continuation of the band's self-titled, debut full-length album, but darker, heavier, and fuzzier. Five tracks of doom, each one offering something unique to the opus. It just gets heavier and heavier as you dwell deeper into the album. The father and son duo on guitars offer to the listener a horde of Iommi-style riffs with fuzzy melodies accompanied by doomy riffing, which is supported by wicked bass lines and heavy drumming. The clean mellow vocals add to the mix, and the occasional talk of witchcraft and mammoths can lead to a sublime, heavy experience. The artwork is made by Branca Studio, whoelse could get the spirit of this album and put it on a cover? You have to dig this album loud if you are a fan of Electric Wizard, Monolord, Sleep.

HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS		 PILGRIM - WALKING INTO THE FOREST

Repress! Gabriele Fiori, already frontman of Rome-based outfits Black Rainbows and Killer Boogie and a key figure in Europe's heavy underground as the head of the Heavy Psych Sounds label and booking agency, was not exactly lacking for things to do. And yet, a couple years back, The Pilgrim started to nebulously take shape as an idea for a solo-project, something different than the hard-driving psychedelia and garage heavy rock for which he'd already been so revered. It wasn't until Jan. 2018 that he really got to putting songs together, but the end result on 'Walking Into The Forest' is a space-folk release with a personality unto itself. Songs like opener 'Peace Of Mind' evoke some of Fiori's more rocking side, while 'Sunset In The Desert' feels like an ode to the acoustic album Kyuss never made, and side B, which starts with the Hawkwind cover 'Brainstorm' and ends with the moody strum of 'Suite #2', originally from Void Generator's 2004 debut EP when Fiori was in the band, hones a cosmic drift and textures that nonetheless remain accessible and organic thanks to their acoustic foundation. "The main point in common with Black Rainbows is the diversity of the songs," Fiori explains. "You have mind-dreams like 'Dragonfly' or 'Sailor,' or the more folk rock 'Peace Of Mind,' passing through space with 'The Time You Wait' and the melodic-melancholic 'When I Call Your Name.' In completing the arrangements, Fiori turned to Black Rainbows drummer Filippo Ragazzoni, and as he says, "Songs came out so spontaneously and easy. I always played acoustic guitar and wanted to push further on this path. The songwriting, rehearsing and recording approach was so different from usual Rainbows or Boogie style, both to me and Filippo for drums, because all the instruments needed to be played smoothly, softly."

A beautifully fragile folk/soft rock daydream recorded in 1971 and unreleased until now. Flight was formed in 1971 in the Michigan town of Grayling by Phil Stancil and Doug Slater. The two teenagers, with no formal musical training, sat down for a year to explore a shared sense of vulnerability, and newfound freedom in expressing an emotional openness rarely seen in young American men at the time. What resulted was an 8-track LP, recorded over two days in two separate studios. Aside from one single release, 'I'm Coming Home' would wait for a full half-century to be released. This recently uncovered and restored music provides a unique glimpse into the world that was 1971 America: a time when young men felt emboldened to abandon machismo and explore the feelings of heartbreak, longing, alienation, and love in music.
