Free Ride channels the spirit of the '70s with their raw, unapologetic approach to rock music. The garage doom trio from Norway, Magmakammer, are back with their long-awaited sophomore album 'Before I Burn'! 'Before I Burn' tells stories of egoism, greed, and the evil it promotes within people's minds. When it feels like the whole world is burning, do you punch out, or do you stay and burn? The album will sound familiar to longtime fans. Although this time around the band has doubled down on the melodies and hooks. If you like Black Sabbath and Uncle Acid and Deadbeats, you will love the sound of Magmakammer. Musically, 'Before I Burn' was inspired by a wide variety of bands and sounds, everything from Tears For Fears to Darkthrone. The title track, for instance, was heavily inspired by the ballad-y tunes of Neil Young, as well as eighties power rock legends Ratt. The album's lyrics are the band's most sinister to date. Drums, bass, and guitars were tracked in the basement of an old building in downtown Oslo. Overdubs for guitar, as well as vocals and keys were tracked in different locations in and around Oslo. Like in the past, the band was in charge of the entire process from songwriting and artwork, to recording and mixing. However, mastering was done by Tony Reed (Mos Generator). Limited to 350 copies on heavy transparant yellow and red splatter vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.

Guitarist-singer Pappo aka Norberto Aníbal Napolitano (1950-2005) is one of his country's biggest rock legends, who also managed to make a career outside his home country. He was there right from the beginning of Argentine rock, as guitarist of the first version of Los Abuelos de la Nada, Conexión N§ 5, Engranaje and Los Gatos, the band that made Argentine rock a household name thanks to the success of their first single, 'La Balsa,' which sold more than 200.000 copies in 1967. Jorge Alvarez (co-founder of the first Argentinian independent rock label Mandioca) encouraged Pappo to develop his own music. What followed was the formation of the first version of Pappo's Blues in 1971, a trio that had Pappo himself on guitar and vocals, David Lebón on bass and Black Amaya on drums. Their self-named debut album was an unqualified success among the ever-growing audience of Argentine rock. It contained a bundle of all-time classics such as 'El Hombre Suburbano' (The Suburban Man), 'El Viejo' (The Old Man) and 'Adónde Está La Libertad' (Where Is Freedom). 'Pappo's Blues' (1971, also known as 'Volume One') introduced a new element to Argentine rock: a harder rock and blues sound, combined with intelligent and sensitive lyrics with centered on the vicissitudes of a typical young man trying to live life according to his own rules, surrounded by the mores of an intolerant society. The arabesques of Pappo's guitar, complemented by a solid and yet elastic rhythm section, made for an exciting and daring sound, where his trademark rock and blues sound also extended to embrace blues ballads and even excursions into psychedelia. Amber/black smoke vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

The Masonics are still the Kings Of Medway Beat, and are known for being 'the best Rhythm and Beat combo since The Milkshakes,' and there's a very good reason for that... Formed in 1976 and active until 2009, The Cramps only called it a day after the death of mainstay Lux Interior who, along with wife and musical partner Poison Ivy, were the only permanent members of the group. Indeed it was the Interior/Ivy partnership which provided the impetus, inspiration and drive for the entire Cramps ethos and body of work. The gig presented here, from a live FM Radio Broadcast and so in the finest quality possible, presented on limited edition white vinyl 2LP, features a good splattering of tracks from 'A Date With Elvis,' alongside a number of Cramps fave-raves and a good helping of cover versions - most interesting of which is rockabilly legend Charlie Feathers' 'It's Just That Song,' the number that finishes the album but which has rarely been performed live by the band. During this show they perform the song also as the final number albeit with an intro by Lux that has to be heard to be believed. Completed with a fascinating interview with Lux Interior, recorded by the radio station responsible for the broadcast, this 2LP set provides a hugely entertaining and inimitable performance by one of the most individual and respected bands of the decade that all too often saw music as a vehicle for risible haircuts, rather than one to promote alternative attitudes and unique sounds.

A year after the release of their debut 7" EP, The Sences strike back with their debut album. 'Better Than Before' contains 12 original compositions, that show their big love for garage and moody sounds of the '60s! It's really impressive to watch these youngsters boldly write and record so many high quality garage songs with such energy and passion, one after the other, like it's the easiest thing in the world! The answer is that The Sences live and breathe those sounds! Their teen angst-ridden songs are influenced by bands that played in clubs on the Sunset Strip such as The Pandora's Box in the '60s like Love, The Chocolate Watchband and early WCPAEB, as well as all the obscure '60s garage bands from the USA suburbs, that we all love. The LP kicks off with 'Don't Care,' the ultimate garage punk anthem of 2024! Tracks like 'No Pain No Sorrow,' 'Either Way' or 'Byrds Won't Fly Today' may have well escaped a teen campus or a college dorm from New England circa 1966 or so, while teen garage stompers like 'She Knocked On My Door,' 'One More Night' and 'My Girl' are filled with raw fuzz, swirling Farfisa, pounding drums and tons of screams. Their LP closes with the mind-blowing acid punk instro 'Psychosis,' that may well have been the main theme of the soundtrack of a mid '60s psychsploitation flick. The Sences don't try hard to look or sound "cool" or "authentic." Actually they "don't care," because they are already cool and authentic! Let The Sences take you to the magical world of their music. Darkend is the band fronted by Animae (also guest vocalist for Gaahl's Wyrd on various European festivals and venues). After rather humble beginnings mostly inspired by orchestral extreme metal, Darkend developed a quite peculiar artistic style blending black metal patterns, ritual ambience, dark classic metal riffs and solos in the vein of Mercyful Fate/Angel Witch and a ritualistic, hypnotic vibe explicitly created in order to generate a deep sonic and spiritual transcendence.

Rippikoulu's 'Musta Seremonia' is both an international cult item and an integral part of the history of Svart Records as well - a reissue of the original 1993 tape was one of the earliest Svart releases back in 2010. Back then, this album was considered as one of the best kept secrets in the Finnish underground metal scene. Several quickly sold out reissues later, Rippikoulu's greatness is no longer a secret, and Svart Records are happy to bring 'Musta Seremonia' back on the market. Rippikoulu began their musical endeavours back in the late eighties, and like so many of their contemporaries, evolved from primitive punk noise to death metal. However, while many bands played death metal with groovy riffing and overall headbanging attitude, Rippikoulu's choice of style was darker. Their downtuned metal is bleak and nearly unbearably heavy in its execution, dark and soul-searching in its themes, intertwining faster bursts of chaos with slow, doomy passages.
Rippikoulu released the 'Musta Seremonia' demo album on tape in 1993 and then disappeared. They never gained much popularity in their time, but their legacy has steadily grown in time. The album has been carefully remastered from the original DAT master tape, cleaned up and amplified.
