A collective whose recordings where in part due to the sad passing of Tibor Strauzs (a passionate Hungarian musician) - who over a lifetime as a recording musician had collected some of the best recording equipment available. Tibor's son David was tasked with safekeeping all this equipment he felt the best way to test all this equipment was with a monumental jam session at Psychedelic Source Studios. ::nepaal was formed from that session and the title sums up the essence of this project - eastern psychedelic wisdom, far-out improvisation, the legacy of a good man and the crystallisation of decades of musical friendship. So over 2 LP's get ready for head spinning jams where you can start to feel the universe expand and contract with the vibrations that emit from the grooves cut into these slabs of vinyl. It is a truly a special feeling to be immersed in the wonderfully explosive, difficult to predict and utterly mind-melting psychedelic mantra of sounds and harmony created by ::nepaal - a place guaranteed to illuminate many tunnels of spiralling trip-time. 'Am I Dreaming?' is the 2023 album by the very prolific Finnish psych/space/kraut project Astral Magic that has been channelling psychedelic and spacey music from other dimensions since March 2020. This time the inspiration came from late '60s/early '70s psych/garage/prog rock (think early Floyd, Stones, The Beatles, 13th Floor Elevators, The Byrds, The Who, The Zombies, Hawkwind etc.). As usual, Santtu Laakso (ex-Dark Sun) got help from international cast of psych rock veterans like for example Dr. Koch from Vibravoid who also made the cover design! This very cool sounding album was recorded
2020-2021 in Finland, Germany, UK and USA. The high quality 140g LP's were pressed at the new plant Helsingin Levypuristamo, the first one in Finland for almost 30 years. Limited to 200 copies on black vinyl. Lyon-based freakers Chico Magnetic Band began as Chico & The Slow Death, its front man a wild Tunisian-born singer otherwise known as Mahmoud Ayari, with drummer Patrick Garel, bassist Alain Mazet and guitarist Bernard Lloret, later replaced by Bernard Monneri. Conjuring a dark, excessive sound with unfettered guitar, pummelling drum rolls and Ayari growling and grumbling over the top, this sole LP from 1971 is culled from different permutating sessions, with plenty of audio freakery and extreme effects from Jean-Pierre Massiera; The Hendrix cover 'Cross Town Traffic' is rendered with love, despite Ayari's hefty accent.

DDT - SWEAT OF THE SUN
'Sweat Of The Sun' is the third album by DDT, the experimental project formed by members of Carlton Melton and White Manna. Like with their previous records, this album was recorded at 3D Light in Northern California where tracks evolved from several jam sessions and improvisations with steel and electric guitars, synthesisers, bass and double drums. Unlike their previous release, 2021's 'Freshwater,' which saw more members joining in with various parts and overdubs, 'Sweat Of The Sun' sees DDT paired down to just the core members, Anthony Taibi and Andy Duvall, with a looser, more laid back feel. The band has dedicated 'Sweat Of The Sun' to the memory of Anders Bröstrom, AKA Domboshawa, who sadly passed away at the end of 2023. It was Andy Duvall from the band who introduced the label to Anders' music and started a relationship spanning six releases on Drone Rock Records. This album is a perfect tribute to a wonderful, kind and extremely talented man. 'Sweat Of The Sun' is a super limited pressing of just 250 copies on 'Psychedelic Sun" coloured vinyl with the cover art giving a knowing nod to an iconic LP by the 13th Floor Elevators.

Born at the dawn of the new millennium in Italy, I.C.O. (Incoming Cerebral Overdrive) are heavy to the core. The end of the first decade of the new millennium marks a new step in the evolution of the band. The title of the new chapter is: "Le Stelle: A Voyage Adrift". The concept, an imaginary, dark and lonely trip adrift discovered in a diary. Emotions of fear, anger and irrational excitement are expressed, waiting for a certain epilogue into desolation, a final annihilation in a cosmic fusion. Sonically, this new album is a journey that intersects and expands in a huge, deep and at times, claustrophobic monolith. Heavy cavernous guitars with back-breaking riffs, multifaceted, effect laden vocals and rhythmic notes plunge into a psychedelic mix of unpredictable sounds of distress and madness that we, the recipient, can only succumb to. The album ultimately analyses the irrational, insane feelings of the man who face a journey toward the unknown. A diary has been found, but we cant say anything more than whats written inside. Impossible to identify the places (real or not, who knows) that he explored, what shines through his words are his fears, sensations and frustrations fed by a sense of belonging to a chaotic, incontrollable, and compromised whole. The participation of Urlo and Poia of Ufomammut, both during the composition and the recording sessions opens the project to a new light. Recorded in Rome at Locomotore Studio by Lorenzo Stecconi (already soundlord for such important discs as Ufomammut and Lento).

Last copies! Manas - otherwise known as the duo of iconoclastic guitarist Tashi Dorji and drummer extraordinaire Thom Nguyen - have made tsunami-sized waves in the free jazz and improv scene with their numerous tape and LP releases (drawing praise and support from such luminaries and fellow-travelers as Bill Nace and Ben Chasny) and their face-melting live shows, including high profile touring with Godspeed! You Black Emperor. Back in the summer of 2019 they invited Naujawanan Baidar's N.R. Safi to sit in with them at a show organized at Fleetwoods, a self-proclaimed "rock and roll wedding chapel" in Dorji and Nguyen's current home of Asheville, North Carolina. Captured on tape was roughly thirty minutes of raw and pummeling improvisation, guitar-become-drum-become-guitar, building and collapsing over and over again like a collective howl from the depths of a necrotic capitalist empire in decay. Limited to 300 copies but only a handful available here.

2024. DRR is kicking off in style with the welcome return of Psychic Lemon and their 4th studio album, 'The Unheimlich Kingdom.' It's been over four years since the band's last studio album, 'Freak Mammal' (released at the tail end of 2019 on DRR), and this is their first record since downsizing to a two-piece following the departure of bass player Andy Hibberd. It is the band's darkest yet, full of unrelenting repetition and piled high with dense slabs of sound, a total contrast to the sounds of their self-titled debut vinyl release on Drone Rock Records way back in 2016.

'FRÄLST!: SWEDISH CHRISTIAN GROOVES 1969-1979' - This 2LP album collection presents some of the best and unique music that could be found on rare records released by the Swedish Christian communities between 1969-1979. Between doubt and faith, there was way out pop, gospel, funk, heavy rock and psychedelic sounds with wah-wah fuzz guitars and conga rhythms. The common determinator: to spread the Christian message through music. Several of these cuts are from ultra-rare records that are known only to collectors, while others are from records so obscure that only a few copies are known to exist. One can compare some of the musical expressions of the Swedish Free Churches with the burgeoning Swedish "progg" music movement of the time. They share the same experimental musical moods, lyrical messages about love and community, justice, and international solidarity, but the recordings presented here also incorporate the Holy Trinity. Like the man it praised, much of this music was misunderstood in its time. But to a new generation of listeners, whether they seek salvation or soulfulness, these tracks may be a gospel that finally reaches its true believers.

Finally available on vinyl! Emmi Kujanpaa is a Finnish folk music professional who works currently as a folk singer, kantele player, composer and researcher. Zakary Thaks, youthful pride of Corpus Christi, could quite easily take the prize as the most precious and forward-thinking of all texas 1960's garage bands, save for the admittedly more seasoned 13th Floor Elevators. The evidence is plain for all to hear on 'A Passage To India.' EM Forster inspired the title, the Yardbirds inspired the arrangement, but the Thaks lent their own youthful impetuosity to this remarkable blend of wide-eyed mysticism and teenaged nervous tension. It makes its debut on 45RPM vinyl here, as does 'It's The End,' an obscure original from the band's early repertoire that superficially channels the Kinks but otherwise 100% Thaks sound: dynamic rhythm section, guitars both precise and flagrant, and a superbly poised vocal. Play loud and raise a glass to these Gulf Coast teens, the likes of whom rock'n'roll will probably never see or hear again. Recorded 1st November (Side A) and 25th September, 1966 (Side B) at ACA-Gold Star Studios, Houston, Texas.

The Sparkles were associated with the garage-band and psychedelic rock scene of 1960s Texas, as epitomized by their classic underground hit 'No Friend Of Mine'. The line-up changed few times before 1962, and Stanley Smith finally recruit Harold "Lucky" Floyd (drums and vocals), Donnie Roberts (guitar) and Bobby Smith (bass). Their first recording was the single 'U.T.' under the small label Caron. This third incarnation proved a great hit among the clubs of West Texas, notably the Music Box and The Village Swinger. Indeed, in 2000, local legend Joe Ely described them as the "city's best rock'n'roll band" in the history of the Lubbock music scene published by Texas Monthly. Interestingly, The Sparkles boasted a pair of drummers, with one, the flamboyant Harold Floyd, also
lending his voice to their performances. 1966 would constitute a turning point for The Sparkles. Larry Parks -drummer for Roy Orbison, turned producer in Nashville, Tennessee- invited them to sign with Hickory Records, the historic music label founded
by Roy Acuff and Fred Rose in 1954. The band came up with 'The Hip', which proved an immediate hit in Austin and extremely popular within the fraternity scene at the University of Texas. On a roll, The Sparkles then recorded 'Something You Said' followed by 'Jack And The Beanstalk'. In 1967, The Sparkles, already a decade old, recorded their chef-d'oeuvre 'No Friend Of Mine', with Nunn's raging guitar riffs and Floyd's remarkably tense vocals. This fiery tour de force would be consecrated by its inclusion on the first CD set of the legendary compilation 'Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968'. Following their final single, 'Hipsville 29 B.C.', for Hickory Records, The Sparkles once again entered rocky waters, with Nunn and Holt finally deciding to throw in the towel in 1968. Floyd, Smith and Marriot immediately set sail for California, along the way renaming their group The Pearly Gate. This brief interlude would include a handful of appearances on the ABC sitcom 'Judd, For The Defense'. Legend has it, they were also scheduled to perform before Bobby Kennedy the evening of his tragic
assassination on June 5th 1968... Returning to Texas, Floyd, Smith and Marriot resurrected The Sparkles, bringing into the fold Steve Weisberg, future guitarist for John Denver. But Floyd's departure in 1975 for California to join Red Wilder Blue spelled the end of this group's 15-year musical odyssey, a tumultuous journey typical of such modest rock'n'roll heroes posthumously crowned by multiple thematic compilations. However, the one you're now holding constitutes the very first anthology dedicated to these incredible Texans.

Zolle, self-proclaimed rednecks, on the loose and ready to run amok with the release of their self-titled debut album, an ode to okel ways of living. They might not take themselves so seriously but don't be fooled, their music is no hayseed dixie, brace yourself for a ferocious, rampant record of thunderous riffs and robust drum blasts. Zolle are - Marcello (Lan of Morkobot) playing meaty riffs and Stefano who beefs things up on drums and xylophone. The duo commenced work on their debut album throughout the summer of 2012, and in just two months they had the music ready to commit to tape. Their self-titled album was recorded in September of the same year by Michelangelo Roberti at Mizkey Studio (MoRkObOt) and mastered by Giovanni Versari (zu, Morkobot, OvO, One Dimensional Man).
It was played almost live, with overdubs reduced to the bone. The drums are of considerable proportion and made of copper and the amplifier an old digital model of the '50s which makes for a mammoth sound. Urlo from Ufomammut and Roberto Rizzo of Quasiviri/Runi add a little synth seasoning to flesh out the album also. The resulting album is mightily heavy, the short songs are direct and song titles are entrenched in references to redneck living. For example 'Mayale' is a play on the Italian word for pig [Maiale] but is written like 'Maya' to reflect the sacred image of the Mayan pig face adorning the album's cover. Similarly, 'Heavy Letam' is suggestive of 'Letame' which means manure in Italian - not to mention
being an anagram of 'heavy metal'. Sludge, metal. For fans of: Morkobot, Primus, Clutch.

Heatmiser was founded in 1991 by Neil Gust, Elliott Smith and drummer/producer Tony Lash. Within a year of adding bassist Brandt Peterson on bass, they were playing across the West Coast and demoing dozens of songs for their first LP. ...LES ÉDITIONS POPULAIRES - After the anniversary edition about the illustrious Ngoma label, Planet Ilunga moves forward in time with this release. With the new series 'Les Éditeurs Congolais' Planet Ilunga aims to honour and highlight the phonographic and entrepreneurial work of the first Congolese record label bosses. They kick off with a compilation of one of the most significant labels, Les Éditions Populaires, founded by Franco Luambo Makiadi. 'Indépendance Cha Cha' was an historic song, not only because it immortalized Congo's independence in its lyrics, but also because it was the first single published by a Congolese-owned record label. Joseph Kabasele's label Surboum African Jazz indeed paved the way for several Congolese musicians to become record publishers. It resulted in the 1960s in a plethora of newly found Kinshasa-based record labels, run by the biggest musicians of the time. Les Éditions Populaires was founded by Franco in 1968 after he first co-founded with Vicky Longomba the labels Epanza Makita (+/- 117 singles) and Boma Bango (+/- 50 singles) and after starting his first short-lived label Likembe (+/- 5 singles). It ran until 1982 and was mostly dedicated to the output of O.K. Jazz (later T.P.O.K. Jazz). This compilation brings together an original selection of 16 tracks from the first three years of Les Éditions Populaires. They are a showcase of the sound Franco had envisioned for his band. The focus was less on cha-cha-cha and Spanish lyrics, but on lingering rumba and bolero ballads in Lingala, tradition-rooted songs in Kikongo, Kimongo and even Yoruba, collaborations with Ngoma artists Camille Feruzi and Manuel d'Oliveira and not to forget solid tributes to American funk, which were showing that the O.K. Jazz musicians had an open-minded view on music and were capable of excelling in many genres.

The project with Mr. Idigo resulted in a highly addictive cosmic boogie album which includes four absolute highlights. Followed by the heavy boogie jam 'We Got To Love,' that is the personal favorite and a great track for DJ's . Helen Umebuani Nee Nkume was born in 1943 at Nbiabike Amekpu Ohafia. Though her father was a prominent member of the community, her family moved to the bigger city of Umuahia, capital city of Abia State, while she was still young. She received her education there and while in secondary school she met her future husband, Umebuani Onwuzulike. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children. Helen started her musical career in the early '70s, forming a group known as the Young Timers. They recorded their first couple of Highlife albums for Tabansi, both of which became hits in the east side of the country. By the late '70s she self-produced and released her two best albums: 'Young Timers Band' and 'Vol. IV,' which were pressed in very limited editions and distributed mainly in the area where the group was active, Umuahia and its surroundings. The music on those albums have a certain progression to them. The 'Young Timers Band' LP is mostly still steeped in the highlife mood that distinguishes her earlier work but one track, 'Umo Imo Special,' stands out from the rest. It's a fusion between highlife, jazz and Afrobeat and totally dance-floor friendly - what we would call "Countryside Afrobeat." By the early '90s Helen had become born again and started performing on gospel albums, eventually becoming one of the most successful Nigerian gospel musicians of the '90s.

This record was produced by the twenty years old Alex Tony Okoroji at the legendary ARC Studios in Lagos, a facility set-up by Ginger Baker. This is the third production for Alex Tony Okoroji's fledgling independent label Love Records, the previous record was the pioneering release by Udu: 'Sound Of The People' (1976) also reissued by Dig This Way in 2020. Musically these two records are poles apart but similar in as much as both the band and producer present a personal musical vision that sounds nothing like their peers at the time. The Springs Band formed in Ibadan (Oyo State) which is roughly 130km northeast of Lagos. The seven members met while training to be Reverend Fathers for the Catholic Church and come from both Nigeria and Sierra Leone... in retrospect as unlikely as this sounds (particularly when you hear the record) the band were the Seminaries event house band at the time... Musically, the record consists of five prime time dancefloor gems with two very subtle afterhours numbers to close - not a bad track on here - which at times in itself is unique for records from the region in the late '70s. The first five tracks are complex hypnotic Afro funk with an almost mesmerizing organ groove, that is deep and raw at the same time which well represent the time, the place and the people involved in the recording...
As odd as it may sound the spirituality of the band's chosen profession is reflected in the fluid deep funk of the groove... not being there we can only guess how the live performances of this "band in full flight" must have been. As luck would have it the recording captures all of those elements and that's what the end result sounds like near unbeatable! Judge for yourself via this enlightening release!!!

It would be easy to say the record is psychedelic, but at times that's an overused term for a broad spectrum of music which suggests something, but doesn't define anything in detail. It might be better in this instance to suggest the record has an otherworldly ambience, folk in essence and potentially devotional from a regional perspective; something possibly alluded to in the both the band's name and the title of the record. Whatever musical genres the record crosses it's a genuine shame that it's taken just over 40 years to reach the ears of a wider audience outside of the few people who would have heard the record at the time.

For its tenth release and in celebration of its tenth anniversary, the label launches with 'The Soul Of Congo,' its most ambitious project to date: a well-documented and extensive anthology about the illustrious and legendary Congolese music label Ngoma. 'The Soul Of Congo' is a compilation that spans the years from 1948 to 1963 as the Belgian Congo emerged from colonial subjugation into the first flower of Independence. Singers and players came to Congo's capital Léopoldville, from all over Central Africa - from the streets of Brazzaville on the opposite shore of the Congo river to the vast plateau of Mbanza Congo in Angola, from the mineral rich areas of Lubumbashi (Elizabethville) in the Deep South to the lively docks of Kisangani (Stanleyville) in the northeast, from the rocky wastes of Mbandaka (Coquilhatville) in the West to the majestic forests of Bukavu (Costermansville) in the East. Léopoldville became a cauldron of musical syncretism between the African rhythms that arrived with these musicians and the European, Caribbean and Cuban tunes that were popular in the big city. The new sounds were recorded for one of the big five Congo labels: Opika, Loningisa, Esengo, Olympia or Ngoma. None of the other Congolese labels better showcased the energy, variety and spirit of this era than the Ngoma label. The label was founded by the Greek Nicolas Jéronimidis in 1948. After his early death in 1951, it was further developed by Nikis Cavvadias and Alexandros Jéronimidis. During its existence, from 1948 until 1971, Ngoma made over 4500 recordings, creating a crucial cultural legacy. Comes with a 24 pages art book, an insert and a postcard. From the extended foreword insert by David Keenan: "Our co-ordinates are fixed, or more properly suggested, by the listing of instruments. Self-made double-bodied string instrument, handmade pocket harp, pedal effects, wordless vocalizations, modified analog drum machine, mini-keyboard, alientronics. [...] The session was recorded - instantly composed - in MCIAA's "Alien Zone", situated in the Western Alps, and it sounds it. The central fact of MCIAA's music has always been space but they have never sounded quite so far away, so removed. [...] Occasionally there is the sound of strings, strange steel resonances that populate the music like ghosts, the ghosts of Roscoe Holcomb's high, lonesome sound, of Dock Boggs and the sanctified steel of Washington Phillips. Ash Ra Tempel met Timothy Leary in the Alps [...] The transmissions are fuzzy up here and at points it makes for a music of almost terrifying quiet. It is minimal, sure, but MCIAA are not so much interested in repetition as in eternal expansion. [...] The Dance Of Oneirism is a music of unknowing, a dance with a phantom, the letting go of a dream."

SMEGMA - GLAMOUR GIRLS 1941
Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS) formed in the mid-1970s as a loose-knit experimental music collective and multimedia publishing vehicle. Founded by teenage Le Forte Four members Chip Chapman, Joe Potts and Rick Potts and soon joined by Tom Recchion of Doo-Dooettes, LAFMS incorporated free improvisation, modular synthesizers, tape music, sampling, musique concrète, homemade instruments, noise, mail art and avant-rock in permissive and anarchic sessions at the Raymond Building and Poo-Bah Record Shop in old Pasadena. Inspired by The Residents, LAFMS self-released records and periodicals, organized performances and connected with fellow outsiders via post in the years before punk. Their uninhibited, egalitarian ideal of music-making and DIY distribution would influence generations of underground artists. Poo-Bah Records, with its import bins and backroom jam space, attracted the pseudonymous artists forming the initial incarnation of long-running collective Smegma. Early members Ju Suk Reet Meate, Dennis Duck, Cheez-it Ritz, Big Dirty, Amazon Bambi and Dr. Id contributed to various LAFMS compilations and combinations before several core members relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1975, where they recorded their debut album 'Glamour Girl 1941.' Originally released on the LAFMS label in 1979, the LP combines rock instrumentation with tape, synthesizer, horns and voice in a tempestuous cauldron of anti-academy improv and alien noise. Beyond its roots in LAFMS, Smegma would help shape the early Portland punk scene in the late '70s alongside Wipers and Neo Boys. In more recent years, they have collaborated with Merzbow and Wolf Eyes. This first-time vinyl reissue is limited to 500 numbered copies. Comes with insert.

Following a slew of instant sell out, hugely acclaimed 45s, the first LP is utterly wonderful despite the apparent silence during its preparation, the wait is more than worth the while.
Comprising the duo of Mark Vorderhaus and Devi von Teufel. Ten absolute high end, synth pop nuggets, each one superbly crafted with the ageless electronics and pop savvy-ness of Mark's writing and electronics, icily coated with Devi's Germanic, Nico-esque vocal delivery. Based heavily on the tracks which formed the bulk of the duo's 7" releases on PY, these are an absolute joy and work superbly and seamlessly well over the course of the album. Hugely recommended to fans of early Mute/Blackwing studios output, Fad Gadget, DAF, The Normal and co; their music is often described as "typifying the PY sound" as imagined by label head Dom, upon his setting up Polytechnic Youth in 2014. A record that has that rare trait of sounding timeless in its (very European) nod to that key period of electronic pop from the mid '70s whilst also sounding utterly fresh and new in 2019. A fabulous record released as a vinyl only pressing on tasty half black and half pink vinyl, in a pressing of 500 only.

LAND OF YRX - FORGET THE LESSONS OF THE PAST
'SELECTED CASSETTE RECORDINGS MAY 1983-AUGUST 1984' - A wonderful -and long overdue- vinyl compilation of key UK electronic pioneers The Land Of Yrx's work between 1982 and 1984. Released almost exclusively across a series of DIY produced cassette only releases, the band's output is now revered in that golden period of groundbreaking, home recorded 4 track experimental/minimal electronics releases, all of which are highly sought after and hugely influential on the swell of electronic musicians that followed at that point in the UK. The duo consists of Shrewsbury based Rob Andrews and Dave Gate (extended for live shows) and with their core discography being so utterly wonderful, honing in on a fair representation of their work with 20 minute-a-side time caps here, was no mean feat. So much of their greatest work featured across epic 15 minute plus jams - ideal for the cassette format, but trickier for wax. But we've got there; 7 beauties which highlight the bands' love for experimental electronica, kosmische/krautrock and prog perfectly - all underpinned with Rob's superb often Gottsching-esque guitar work. A superb band, totally worthy of further investigation - massively recommended to anyone into any of the above, or that core of early UK electronic underground/cassette scene of Colin Potter, Paul Nagle, Neural Circus as well as overseas heavyweights like Conrad Schnitzler etc. Limited to 300 copies.

An album of sculpted synthsonics and Eldritch electronics originally released on a limited run, blink and you'll miss it cassette which sold out in 24 hrs. Heavy on basslines, with driving rhythms and tweaked synthesisers, it's a record which openly acknowledges it's nod to horror scores and the work of the Radiophonic Workshop whilst pulling off something uniquely and freshly new, with an assembled array of wayward equipment stored at his Analogue Hades base. British horror actor Laurence R. Harvey adds suitably menacing narration in places, and across 10 fabulous tracks this is a richly, deliciously diverse electronic record which comes hugely recommended to fans of John Carpenter, not to mention label mates The Heartwood Institute and Dream Division. A one time pressing of 300, destined to sell out pretty swiftly.

Reissue of this rare and unusually dreamy electronic ambient new age album. Originally created and released in a small edition in Japan back in 1987 by the mysterious
musician/magician Shiho. 'The Body Is A Message Of The Universe' features floating shimmering synthesizer textures. It's unique and extra ordinarily serene with shifting tone colors and spatial textures bringing the listener to a special
magic place. Although Shiho Yabuki continued her career in Japan, both as a musician and magician and became a pioneer of healing music in Asia, for most western listeners it was like Shiho was one of those mysterious artists who puts out an album and then is never heard from again. This is unfortunate, and
something Subliminal Sounds hope to rectify. This release also features a couple of special tracks originally composed and recorded by Shiho in the late 1980s for the Japanese Kanebo Beauty Research Laboratory.

'Allonsanfàn' is a 1974 historical film written and directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani; set in 1816 in Italy during the Restoration period, its cast features, among others, Marcello Mastroianni, Lea Massari, Laura Betti and Mimsy Farmer.
'Allonsanfàn' is the first collaboration between the two directors and Morricone, who would also compose the music for the film 'Il Prato' ('The Meadow,' 1979). The soundtrack starts with a main marching theme, 'Rabbia E Tarantella,' introduced by the piano and reworked in a thrilling way by the full orchestra; Giuseppe Tornatore liked it so much that in 2009 he asked Morricone to write a similar musical theme for a sequence of the film 'Baara.' This motif is alternated with the bucolic passages for flute and orchestra of 'Ritorno A Casa,' the festive 'Dirindindin,' the classical piece 'Te Deum Laudamus' for orchestra and choir and 'Frammenti Di Sonata' for solo
violin and small ensemble. This score was only partially issued on vinyl in 1979, and subsequently only on CD; for the first time, then, it's here released on clear red vinyl in an extended version, including a 30x30cm insert. 'La Donna Della Domenica' (Sunday Woman) is a 1975 giallo movie, an Italian/French co-production directed by Luigi Comencini and starring Marcello Mastroianni, Jacqueline Bisset and Jean-Louis Trintignant. The soundtrack of this film, composed, orchestrated and directed by Ennio Morricone, enjoys the typical elements of the Maestro's style, and mainly consists of a beautiful leading theme and various variations, alternating with more intense moments, perfect for a detective film, evoking the atmosphere of 'Indagine Su Un Cittadino Al Di Sopra Di Ogni Sospetto' (Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion) or 'Milano Odia: La Polizia Non Può Sparare' (Almost Human), two films for which Morricone himself wrote the soundtrack a few years earlier. Mystery, tension and melancholy are the main features of this excellent work. At the time, only a single 45rpm was released for 'La Donna Della Domenica,' including the main theme and 'Torino Di Notte' as the B-side, and only in 2008 the full score has been finally released on CD; this is therefore the very first vinyl version of this soundtrack! 'L'Arcangelo' ('The Archangel') is a 1969 comedy characterised by police and judiciary tones, directed by Giorgio Capitani and starring, among others, Vittorio Gassman, Pamela Tiffin, Adolfo Celi, Irina Demick and Carlo Delle Piane. This soundtrack follows the previous 'La Notte E Fatta Per... Rubare' ('The Night Is Made For Stealing') which marked the beginning of Umiliani's collaboration with the director. Mainly displaying a Latin American flavour, it contains several elements typical of the composer's style, mixing bossa nova and samba with beat rhythms and Hammond organ, and is enriched by various vocal contributions from Alessandro Alessandroni's Cantori Moderni and the delightful scat singing of Giulia De Mutiis, one of the choir's female voices. Distorted electric guitars with orchestral ensemble also create an atmosphere between spy and detective story. None of 'The Archangel' tracks have ever been released in any form for many years, and to date there are only three CD editions only issued in Japan. This clear yellow vinyl version therefore fills a void and finally returns these wonderful compositions to us in the format that suits them best! The Excitements are a hardworking band, almost hyperactive, so when you are in a state of perpetual motion, things happen fast and time flies. Within six months of their first show in March 2010, the group was touring all over Europe, and recorded their first long player. The album was a totally unexpected success which led the band across the continent for a year and a half. It's sad to say, but 'Sometimes Too Much Ain't Enough', the second LP, surpasses its predecessor in all respects, and gives the impression that until now the band was just... warming up. The essence of their sound has not changed substantially over the debut: early soul, r&b, and a hint of '50s gospel, but now fully developed, sharpened and fine tuned, thanks to two years of intense rehearsing and countless shows. Ndikho Xaba left South Africa in 1964, an exile from his homeland who eventually found his place in San Francisco's vibrant spiritual jazz scene of the late '60s. A songwriter, bandleader, pianist, and inventor of percussion and woodwind instruments, Xaba played alongside contemporaries like Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, and Sun Ra. But it was on the single album he recorded in the US, self-released in an edition of 100 copies in 1971, that Xaba realized his unique vision. Backed by a band that included Plunky Branch and Lon Moshe (Oneness of Juju and Black Fire label), Xaba bridged the Black Atlantic, connecting the music of Africa with the most brilliant lights of the Diaspora, and drawing a line between the Black Power movement of the US and the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Across five songs, Xaba and the band move through spiritual invocations, wrenching soul, and dizzying layers of rhythm knocked out on homemade instruments. The album is a critical political and historical document, and one of our favorite spiritual jazz albums of all time. Licensed from Nomusa Xaba, Ndikho's partner, a poet, storyteller, album-cover artist, and namesake of the stunning track immortalizing her name. This is a reissue of the remastered 2015 release by Matsuli Music, pressed on 160gm vinyl, including booklet with rare photographs and concert bills, personal recollections from Plunky Branch, and extensive liner notes by Francis Golding and the great Thulani Davis, who was a part of Xaba's musical community.

Previously available digitally, as well as a limited run on cassette, this edition of the album is being presented in a 500 copy vinyl pressing. Mohammad Mostafa Heydarian is a young Kurdish tanbur player from Kermanshah, a city in the mountainous western Iranian region of Horaman. The son of a local instrument builder, he grew up surrounded by the local traditional music styles, studying with a number of well-known master musicians before recently entering university to study Persian classical music. Heydarian currently resides in Tehran and has deep affection for the land of his upbringing. Featuring Behzad Varastev on daf on tracks A1, B1 and B3.
This is a co-release between Radio Khiyaban (NL), Centripetal Force (USA), Cardinal Fuzz (UK), and Ramble Records (AUS).

TALBOT BROTHERS OF BERMUDA - THE TALBOT BROTHERS OF BERMUDA
The Talbots were one of the first notable vocal groups from Bermuda to gain international acclaim. The group frequently performed for television in the 1950s, appearing on Ed Sullivan's variety shows and other programs. The Talbots performed Trinidadian calypso in a smooth melodic style, influenced by popular music. Notable in the group's instrumentation was Roy Talbot's home-made upright bass, created out of a large meat-packing crate and a single fishing line. This LP, presented here as a splendid vinyl reissue, was originally released in 1958 by ABC-Paramount.

And yet our ol' pal El Vidocq has somehow pulled it off, limiting his prospecting to France, Belgium and Canada to unearth a selection of real nuggets. As usual, the convivial disc jockey has favored danse-inducing, out-of-the-ordinary tunes, while yet steering clear of the simply strange or anecdotal... This album combines rock, jerk and froggy yé-yé, with eminently cinematographic instrumentals. Certain songs are astonishingly modern, while others are simply outrageous. Gaston's reply to Nino Ferrer. The addictions of José Salcy. Cléo evoking the '60s lifestyle, and Annie Duparc the changing society. Tao settles his parental scores, while Christian Gaubert and Claude Bolling masterfully direct their ensembles, on a level with the world's greatest orchestras!
Once again, and it's no surprise, not a drop of ennui taints this fun and groovy album, packed full with talented musicians, many forgotten but here happily rediscovered.
