DOM - EDGE OF TIME
Monster tripped-out Floydian psychedelia/krautrock by this band from Düsseldorf featuring visual artist Gabor Baksay. This is their sought-after album originally released in 1972. Dark, atmospheric, hypnotic sound with percussion, flute, organ, guitars and early electronics/proto-industrial sound collages.
Dom (Gabor and Laszlo Baksay, Rainer Puzalowski and Hans-Georg Stopka) evolved from a beat/psychedelic band called the Early Birds, later Set Mind, who were in a sort of sporty competition with another group called Spirits Of Sounds, featuring Michael Rother's pre-Neu! and Kraftwerk drummer Wolfgang Flür. Dom were regulars at underground clubs from Düsseldorf such as the Creamcheese, where they rubbed shoulders with early Krafwerk and Can. 'Edge Of Time' was recorded at the legendary Neubauer Studios (Harmonia, Kalacakra, Anima-Sound...) and subsequently released on the tiny Melocord label in 1972. Its enigmatic cover was designed by a friend of the band, Jutta Keime.

Recorded when he was just nineteen, 'Dreaming With Alice' by British folk musician/artist Mark Fry' was (barely) released only in Italy in 1972, making it one of the rarest and most desirable acid-folk/psychedelic albums ever. Tracks like 'The Witch' or 'Mandolin Man' are considered nowadays classics of the genre. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve, sourced from the original master tapes, and includes insert with liner notes by Mark Fry and photos.

Ultimate kraut basement hard-rock garage monster. Originally from Brinkum (near Bremen), Grave was formed in a basement in 1975. Using a primitive tape recorder and just two mics, six tracks were recorded live at a makeshift studio located at the Brinkum Jugendhaus (youth center) in summer 1975, resulting in the Grave 'Nr. 1' album. Grave's music is raw, sincere, melancholic and unadulterated.

HORSE - HORSE
Horse formed in 1968 when former high school friends Rod Roach and Adrian Hawkins started writing songs together. Rod had previously played lead guitar with various groups (included a brief stint with Andromeda). Horse's final line-up was established in early 1969 with Adrian Hawkins on vocals, Rod Roach on guitar, Colin Standring on bass and Ric Parnell (Atomic Rooster, Spinal Tap) on drums. It's a fantastic example of post-psychedelia and early hard-rock/proto-metal, dominated by Roach's killer fuzz-wah guitar and Hawkins powerful vocals.

Stars align and Oli Heffernan brings his ever-(d)evolving Ivan The Tolerable to Riot Season for two LPs of sublime entropic drift. Having this time recruited Christian Alderson (The Unit Ama) on drums, John Pope (Ponyland) on double bass, Kevin Nickles (Ecstatic Vision) on flute and saxophone and Ben Hopkinson on electric piano - both works were recorded as a quintet almost instantaneously, the players barely brushing or breathing a note before the whole thing was done. 'Vertigo', is all claustrophobic, dense and disorientating - like Sun Ra sitting in with Exploding Star Orchestra. John Hubner (Complex Distractions) on 'Vertigo': "An expansive collection of free-flowing sound and mood bringing to mind Coltrane (John and Alice) as well as the great Albert Ayler, while touching on the forward thinking compositions of Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra. From the titanic soundscape of 'New Worlds On Earth' to the Marc Moulin touches of 'Liquid Voices' and the mysterious eccentricities of 'Swimming,' 'Vertigo' hangs in the air long after the final note plays."

By digging out certain beaches, the divine breaks of Anekdoten and Camel come back and with some little hints of King Crimson and Sigur Ros all that to say is that we are in the experimental progressive psychedelic corner. They define themselves as digging deep into the untapped subconscious, seeking the unknown from within and expressing the sound found, music inspired by common and unusual experiences on the surreal life we are currently living.

Every summer, Cardigan's Cellar Bar plays host to two days and three nights of great live music, organized by Sendelica's Pete Bingham and supported by the global might of Fruits de Mer Records, kindly sponsored by Record Collector magazine and Cardigan's Mantle Brewery. In 2023 London Underground and Pinhdar flew in from Italy to play alongside the UK contingent and Fruits de Mer produced a limited-run double LP of recordings from a selection of the artists that played - music on the double LP set ranges from instrumental progressive rock to psychedelia, space rock to trip-hop, kosmische synth sounds to a barber shop quartet (OK, so there was no barber shop quartet).

The Tours were an English new wave/power pop band from Poole, Dorset, founded in the late '70s during the punk era. The band consisted of Richard Mazda, Ronnie Mayor, Steve Jeff and Mark Spiers. They were unusual because there were two songwriters and two lead singers, Richard Mazda singing his own songs and Ronnie Mayor singing his. Virgin, Polydor/Fiction, EMI, Sire and other record labels were interested in signing them and the band ultimately signed to Virgin, but in 1980, there was a dispute between the group, the record label and the band themselves, before the ensemble split and members went their own way. According to various sources, John Peel played the band's self-released 'Language School' single for 50 consecutive nights (!!!) on Radio 1 in 1979, declaring it at the time his second favourite single of all time behind the Undertones 'Teenage Kicks.' Although 'Language School' was predominantly played by Peel, he also played their only other single, 'Tourist Information.' Despite the band being short lived, Peel did revisit them after the '70s, especially in the early '00s, when he played their 'Language School' song on his shows. 1980 should have been Tours' year. Boasting a killer live show and incredible strength in depth, they had a seemingly endless collection of two-minute pop classics. Yet the band were doomed never to make it to 1980, torn apart by a
conflict of egos and by a deep mistrust of industry dabbling with the band's line-up and sound. Only one single on Virgin was ever released - the mighty 'Tourist Information.' Having sold 13,000 copies of 'Language School' under their own
steam, it seemed obvious that a company like Virgin would do better. In the event, their efforts to promote 'Tourist Information" were pathetic. (Excerpt taken from Retroman65.blogspot.com). After a very long time of preparation it is finally here, the reissue of the classic and now very expensive single, as close as possible to the original, but with extensive liner notes and never before published photos in an four page booklet. Limited to 500 copies.

The album was finished, and recorded in his garden shed in Romford, East London. It's a beautiful juxtaposition about a boy from Essex, who fell in love with international music, discovered the world, and then produced a musical treatise about his adventures from his shed.

LOS DIABLOS ROJOS - RITMO SATANICO
Today, Los Diablos Rojos are known around the world for a unique tropical sound that has transcended passing fashions and managed to hold its own in an era marked by transience and oblivion. Over the years, they have become the forerunners of a trend that has been developing for half a century and is gaining more and more praise and recognition. They have become a musical reference for other contemporary tropical music bands that have found in Los Diablos Rojos, above all, an example of creativity and resilience. The Peruvian cumbia band Los Diablos Rojos was born within the quincha and adobe walls of Cañete Chico with a proposal very different from what all the musicians of the time were working on: an instrumental tropical music style of their own. Even Enrique Delgado (Los Destellos), Beto Cuesta (Los Ecos) and Berardo Hernandez (Manzanita Y Su Conjunto), who all found a source of income in música criolla, did not limit themselves to working for hire. They were all crossing the same bridge, the bridge of tropical music. Above all, the sense of renewal was the incentive for this bet. If they wanted to change the paradigm, they would not do it by copying styles they had already heard many times before.

LOS SANDERS DE NANA - CARRETEANDO, VOL. I
In the story of Los Sanders, many sources can be found to understand the emergence of "chicha," a style associated with the life of migrants in the city that saw its heyday in the 1980s, but also to understand the connections between youth music, "new ola," and rock with tropical rhythms. Los Sanders serve as a bridge between periods and styles, and their ability to adapt to musical genres and reinvent them has given them a unique style. Los Sanders De Ñaña reflect a Lima that was transforming, giving way to a new face and a new urban soundtrack. In the universe of Peruvian tropical music, one can distinguish a wide variety of styles. One of the most unique is known as the "carretero" style, also referred to as the "Carretera Central" sound, which alludes to the sound developed by a series of musical groups that became known during the 1970s in the areas surrounding this major highway. At that time, this area received a large influx of migrants from the provinces who came to the capital in search of a better future. The initiators of this carretero style were Los Sanders De Ñaña, and following them, other groups emerged, not only creating a unique style but also establishing a circuit.

Bogotá-based Colombian composer Eblis Alvarez, known as Meridian Brothers, has been concocting a unique blend of psychedelic sounds since 1998. With this album Alvarez explores the untapped potential of the electric guitar in a tropical Latin context. Drawing inspiration from African highlife and soukous traditions, Alvarez crafts a fearless sonic experiment infused with invention, playfulness, and emotion. Unlike typical tropical guitar records, this album eschews distortion and clichés, opting for a pure, clean approach. Through intricate compositions blending cumbia, champeta, soukous, Brazilian tropicalia, and underground psychedelic rock, Alvarez pays homage to the golden era of Congolese rumba, Ghanaian highlife, and Nigerian Afrobeat. 'Mi Latinoamérica Sufre' delves into the ego trip, presenting a humorous yet introspective journey of self-discovery and identity. The central character, Junior Maximiliano the Third, navigates through the complexities of self-discovery using psychedelic substances, political philosophy, and folklore. As he grapples with nostalgia, paranoia, and shared suffering, Alvarez showcases his vocal prowess, creating a sonic theater of the mind. Accompanied by visual narratives from Colombian artist Mateo Rivano, the album portrays various psychological states of disorientation, self-pity, enlightenment, and optimism. 'Mi Latinoamérica Sufre' emerges as a worthy and innovative addition to the concept album tradition, offering a distinctive blend of bitter-sweet flavors inspired by Latinoamérica.
