More than simply being a band, Addict Ameba is a wide Italian collective that makes brotherhood the weapon to live music together crossing all cultural boundaries. The driving force lies in the heterogeneous background of its members and the relative familiarity with different folkloric areas. In this first work, their personal Afro-Latin-beat reveals a sincere meeting between African and Central American traditions... for this reason they are against the drift of continents! The collective is connected to Al Doum and the Faryds, sharing some of their members, the same music label and the Guscio Studio where the album has been cooked thanks to the wisdom of the great master pirate. You can travel halfway between the Atlantic continents, where a gritty guitar deploys a solid knowledge of the stronger Latin-rock - you know the "Santana of Piola" is on board! - but it absorbs funky and Tuareg riffs too, as well as brilliant psych deviations. Heavy horns abound with solutions and influences, blowing arias of Ethio-jazz or Cuban-salsa crossings, such as calypso and Caribbean progressions. However, it's the rhythmic sailors section that supports all the dynamics of the sound with impeccable qualities of polyrhythm, sending seas of bodies into ecstasy; maybe they learn this rowing on a boat? Panamor represents "a profound union between living beings and objects in an increasingly divided World". Such pirates of love!

Rubinho e Mauro Assumpçao's 'Perfeitamente, Justamente Quando Cheguei' has to be up there as one of the finest Brazilian-psych-folk-MPB records. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find in the wild; even on digging trips to Brazil, an original copy rarely shows up, and when it does, it comes with a hefty price tag. This highly sought-after rarity was released on the Brazilian label Tapecar Records in 1972 and is the one and only album by the sensational pairing of Rubinho and Mauro Assumpçao. Effortlessly blending folk, MPB, funky-psych, rock, and relaxed, swaggering samba, this record ought to be heralded as a true Brazilian classic. However, maybe due to its scarcity and the previous reissue predominantly being only available to the Brazilian market, it has not had a chance to fully shine and find the wider audience it deserves. Through Mr Bongo's reissue they hope to put things right. Fans of records by Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges are sure to enjoy the same magic and allure in 'Perfeitamente, Justamente Quando Cheguei.' In addition to being the album's songwriters, Mauro Assumpçao took on the role of producer and Rubinho was co-producer as well as playing piano, organ, acoustic guitar and performing vocals. The record features the drummer Gegê who worked with Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, Nana Caymmi, Dom Um Romao and more. It also features guitarist Rick Ferreira, who played with Erasmo Carlos, Gal Costa and other greats. Rounding off the players on the album are Darcy Da Cruz and Formiga who have graced many a fine recording on horns. 'The Long Stuff' was originally released in 2002 as a limited edition CD. There were just 110 copies pressed and sold to the members of the then online 'Bevis Frond Community.' Since then it has never been reissued in any format. The album was a collection of unreleased tracks from Nick Saloman's archive, but what tied this lot together was that all of the tracks (bar one) were rather lengthy. When assembling this album for a double vinyl release, it required some extra music to fill four sides of vinyl. So what you have here are two sides taken from the original CD and a further two sides of previously unheard epics. These tracks were recorded between 1995 and 2020, and feature songs performed by Nick Saloman alone, and others with a full band. Some are home demos, while some are studio recordings. There's also one mammoth live recording. Other musicians featured are Adrian Shaw, Andy Ward, Paul Simmons and Dave Pearce. So to all those who don't go for long, self-indulgent workouts, you're not going to like this album. But for those who do... WOW! Limited to 1000 copies.

'Reet' is a lost treasure of late 1960s folk/psych-folk. The only album she ever put to tape, with clear pure voice and guitar, luckily recorded by Andres Raudsepp in 1969.
When Hendrikson arrived in Canada in 1968, her formal musical background allowed her to create the arrangements that accompanied her simple but pure singing voice. Having heard her under northern Muskoka pines at an Estonian summer seminar, it didn't take Andres Raudsepp long to bring her to a recording studio and capture the songs.

For this offering, originally released in 1972 on Toshiba Records, Akira Ishikawa takes us on a deep tripped-out journey. 'Uganda (Dawn Of Rock)' is a fusion of progressive and psych rock with African percussion workouts, dergy-wah wah blues-funk, and jazzy sensibilities; with different genres morphing and uniting as they progress. A long way from his funk and Afrobeat album 'Back To Rhythm,' reissued on Mr Bongo in 2019, this record has a darker, deeper, abstract and experimental stoned tone with the listener being pulled into its vortex for the ride. This record doesn't pull any punches. For this album, Akira is joined by Hideaki Chihara on bass, guitarist Kimio Mizutani, sounding at times like an early '70s Peter Green, percussionist Larry Sunaga and composer Takeru Muraoka. The album has become highly sought-after amongst psych, prog and acid rock collectors and due to the rare nature of original copies they come at a hefty price tag. Jorma Saarikangas is a Finnish musician and poet from Lahti. He used to record these weird, experimental and psychedelic soundscapes in the '70s at home using primitive gear and has been releasing these previously unheard home-recordings on limited edition vinyl issues since 2004. This fourth and final(?) part in the series was recorded between 1974 and 1976 after the 'Ancient' trilogy. The album contains mostly cosmic synth experiments, but you also get some spoken word, a strange manipulated howling voice, vocals and a little bit of guitar. The best release in this series is very psychedelic and odd. Limited to 250 copies.

Oneiric voices refer to the hybrid chaos of a metropolitan jungle, as a hypnotic and psychic dimension of mind layers. 'Goud' is steeped in numerous literary, mythological, philosophical, ecological and alchemical references. Pulsating and magnetic Farfisa, mesmeric basses and flutes or poisonous pinkfloydian and krautrock patterns forge a clear divinatory aspect of the music. The trip ends in the dark night of the forest, with more acoustic flavours and percussive incense of pure acid-folk. The beautiful cover by Virginia Genta of Jooklo, with her amoebic-cosmic graphics, seems to perfectly seal the sound inspiration of one of the most advanced forges of Italian neo-psychedelia.

STUDIO KOSMISCHE - BEYOND THE CIRCLE OF THE FIXED STARS
"Fans of the Kosmische sound rejoice as sonic pioneers Dom Keen and Jonathan Parkes return with another instalment of their essential record series. I found my way to Studio Kosmische via Parkes' Korb project. Whilst I am admittedly tardy to the party, I'm nonetheless smitten by the sounds your about to enjoy in the grooves of this here record. The album is split into two musical journeys across its two sides. 'The Rites Of Saturn' starts as a tribal dance before the song enters a black hole and the sounds of the cosmos permeate the speakers. We drift along for a spell enveloped in the calm of the never-ending expanse before emerging back where we started. The drums welcoming us back to the dance. I get lost in this track every time and it sends me running to the turntable to flip the record to continue the journey. Side B finds us 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' This is what I'd deem a groovy little number. The minimal bass trades licks with the guitar before a synth line kicks in. Check out the drums by the way. Gloriously busy but never intrusive. They absolutely steal the show for me. Another journey of a track, it transforms before your ears into this mellow, pastoral acoustic jam. It really does feel welcoming and almost like a homecoming. If you've been following Studio Kosmische then you'll know the quality these guys produce. If, like me, this is your first foray then my dear listener you're in for a treat. Drop the needle in the groove and let Messrs Keen & Parkes take you on a sonic voyage 'Beyond The Circle Of The Fixed Stars.' ~Mark Anderson - Static Sounds Club.

VARIOUS - NIPPON ACID FOLK 1970-1980
The birth of Japan's nascent acid folk scene was rooted in the messy and invigorating political climate of the late 1960s. It is a story of Dadaists, communists, pharmacists, and cult leaders, led by a young generation of upstart students, artists, and dreamers hellbent on turning their world upside down. At the forefront of this movement was Yellow Magic Orchestra's Haroumi Hosono, a polymath innovator whose band Happy End released the first Japanese language rock album, and whose influence would go on to be felt across Japanese music for decades. Alongside, and informed by the Kansai scene's Takashi Nishioka and Happy End collaborator Ken Narita, they experimented with cadences and accents of the Japanese language to open the door for others to experiment with their own forms of psychedelic folk too. Charting the decade from 1970 to 1980, 'Nippon Acid Folk' surveys a little explored corner of Japanese music history, but one which ultimately laid the foundations for an independent music industry, launching the careers of Hosono and others in the process. 'Nippon Acid Folk 1970-1980' is pressed on vinyl and represents the start of a deep dive into Japan's rich history of folk and psychedelic soul music.

3-D - 4 TRACK INSTRO EP
A quarter-century after its creation, the debut EP from 3-D - the solo project of Michael Purkhiser, younger brother of late Cramps legend Lux Interior - is released by MuSick Recordings and Trash Wax Recs. Michael dubs 3-D's style "surftrack" music, combining as it does the British background music for 1960s and '70s movies/TV shows and classic true '60s surf sounds.
Incredibly, the spirited yet musically accomplished songs on the 3-D EP were written and recorded mostly on the same day, with the goal of capturing true, visceral spontaneity. It was mastered by musician/producer Evan Foster (The Sonics, Boss Martians, etc.) at No-Count studios in Seattle. Lux's original, ultra-evocative album artwork has been adapted for the EP.

Another Junkshop Glam jam sees a reissue: A Raincoat's 'It Came In Night'. Here it comes with a different B-side, entitled 'Vote For Me' instead of the original B-side 'Morocco'. A Raincoat was a studio creation from Andy Arthurs. 'It Came In The Night' was used in Kenneth Anger's short film from 1979, 'Rabbit's Moon'. It sounds like prime era Giorgio Moroder producing a Halloween record for The Sparks. This is the first time this single has been available since 1976.

Somewhere between The Heartbreakers (Petty) and The Heartbreakers (Thunders), Atlanta five-piece The Barreracudas find a shallow well of inspiration just deep enough to produce one of the biggest foot-tappers of 2011, which now is re-pressed. 'Nocturnal Missions' blends elements of dirty '70s glam and the radio-friendliness of Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour. The Barreracudas' sound shouldn't come as a great surprise as most of these guys have been playing with Gentleman Jesse and His Men for the past couple of years. There's no Pulitzer-worthy poetry in the lyrics, but the hooks in these songs are more infectious than encephalitis. It's even got a sweet cover of Cheap Trick's 'Come On, Come On.'

Johnny's words about this recording: "Living in Spain I have found myself playing a lot of solo concerts all throughout Spain and into Europe, so I had the idea to record a bunch of songs in this more intimate stripped back way. I went into Estudio Tigruss in Els Poblets Spain with nothing more than a guitar and a handful of ideas in my hands and mind, I sat down in front of the microphone and started singing and playing almost exactly as I do when I play solo, 3 or 4 hours later I had recorded 12 songs in a live performance kinda way. The original live recordings were sounding good but I as I usually do I decided that I wanted to add an extra guitar part here and there (for better or for worse it's what guitar players do right??) that led to me adding a bunch of different guitars , some bass and some percussion and finally asking a new friend Hendrik Rover from the legendary Los Deltonos to play some pedal steel on the songs (I had recently worked with Hendrik while I was producing a record for the wonderful Los Chicos, and I found Hendrik not only great to work with but I also found we traveled in similar spaces musically speaking) . The adding of the extra instruments was a little like treading a fine line because I did not want to lose the original intimate, raw bare bones live feel but just to "flesh" the performances out a little, to open them up sonically speaking, make them more landscape as opposed to portrait. What you have here is a collection of songs, yours and mine, and the vibrations that travel through them and connect all or at least some of us."

JACK CADES - PERFECT VIEW
The Jack Cades formed in 2017 when their first mini LP was recorded at North Down Sound in Kent, UK. At this time it was just two people (Mike & Elsa) wanting to record a few songs they had written. They asked Mole (State Records, The Embrooks) to join them on drums and John Gibbs (The Masonics, Wildebeests) to join them on bass for the session. Their sound is raw, influenced by rhythm n' blues and '60s garage punk.
When they decided to carry on as a band, this required a full time bass player at which point they brought in Alexandra Cools (Speedball Jr.) and The Jack Cades were born. The band has always been hugely influenced by the sounds of the '60s, mainly US garage and UK beat bands from that time, but they are also influenced by a wide range of bands from different eras, some more modern, such as The Stone Roses for example. In April 2019, they decided to go record the 11 songs that would form the album 'Perfect View' with Liam Watson at Toe Rag Records in London. Liam completely understood what they were trying to achieve. The result is powerful, listen, and you will see!

The Mudd Club are a garage-punk band consisting of guitarist Sadie Capps, drummer Julian West and bassist Huw Hickman. Sadie and Julian grew up in landlocked Lawrence, Kansas. They now spend most their time between Bristol in the UK and Wales. They write most of their own material drawing on the best of '50s, '60s and '70s trash and punk although when they do cover a track, it's guaranteed to be a killer as in the case on this album where they cover the 1962 released 'Wombat Twist' originally by Glenn & Christy. These kids are top notch and way ahead of what their tender years may imply... A true delinquent teen band (alright, early 20's).

Second release by Greek Label Sunnyboy66 Records. As Sao Paulo's east side is home of a garage scene that never lost breath, Os Estilhaços could not have been formed in any other context. Directly influenced by '60s psychedelia and drawing on the garage punk groups of that time (The Seeds, Count Five, Electric Prunes, Music Machine), the band presents its own compositions and some covers, having already played throughout Sao Paulo's alternative circuit and also in other states of the country and festivals such as Dia da Música, Garageira and Grito Rock, held in more than two hundred cities, in several countries. Caio Sergio (ex-Haxixins [vocals/guitar]) and Felipe Blasi [guitar] joined their longtime friends Paulo Nobre and Alexandre Rodrigues (ex-Panoramas [bass/drums respectively]) and invited Cristina Alves [organ] to complete the team. With some time on the road and after Felipe's and Caio's leaving (replaced by Rodrigo "Bob"), the band goes on as a quartet, without losing its sound essence. They consolidated a repertoire and recorded the tracks of their first album that could only achieve the desired sixties sound with analog equipment and touch of the friend and producer Luis Tissot (Caffeine Sound Estudio). The sonority of Os Estilhaços faithfully demonstrates the obscurity of garage scene. In live performances, the audience feel itself in the '60s, inside that primitive atmosphere in which each instrument contributes to the collective trip, always filled with plenty of fuzz guitars, the strong rhythm of the drums and the bass, supplementing with organ that flows melted in each song. Worth giving up consciousness for a few moments and get carried away by the acid trip of Os Estilhaços.

High quality reissue of Steve Lacy's rare Japanese collaboration album 'Distant Voices'. 180 gram vinyl and 4 page insert with liner notes by Julian Cowley. On 24th June 1975 Takahashi sat at a grand piano, with celeste and vibraphone alongside him and small bells attached to his hands. Kosugi was equipped with violin, flute, mouth organ, an electronic modulator, porcelain bowls and at times he used his voice. Lacy played soprano saxophone, of course. Now and then he pressed the mouth of the instrument against the skin of a kettle drum. He occasionally fiddled with a transistor radio, and also found uses for a stepladder, a toothbrush and a spinning wheel. This was in no sense a routine musical session. Distant Voices preserves a unique occasion when three singular musicians joined together to embrace the unknown.

Iku Sakan, in 2004, produced 15 copies of a handmade CD-R with Muneomi Senju and handed a copy to Karlheinz Stockhausen, in Tokyo for his last festival appearance in Japan - this release is the vinyl version of that CD-R. Sakan has played with Sun Araw, Anders Lauge Meldgaard, Pekka Airaksinen, Gunter Schickert and Damo Suzuki among others. Muneomi Senju played drums in the Japanese experimental band The Boredoms and Urichipangoon, and he has also performed with Arto Lindsay, Bill Laswell, Merzbow, Otomo Yoshihide, EP-4 and Keigo Oyamada (aka Cornelius).
