This sophomore release can now be discovered by those who might not have indulged in the bands eclectic and under-appreciated style back in 1970. Once again, the line-up of Howard Werth (lead vocals, electric classical guitar, banjo), Keith Gemmell (sax, clarinet, flute), Tony Connor (drums, percussion, piano) and Trevor Williams (bass, vocals) remained from the self-title debut, and the true sound of Audience seemed to be emerging in full force. Repress of 100 copies on hot pink vinyl, order fast, we only get a few! A long time in the making but good things always come to astral travellers as transatlantic soul mates Dead Sea Apes and The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol are joined together on black vinyl for the first time. Two artists that for over the last ten years (& longer) have spent their lives creating music that defies easy categorizations - psych rock/kraut rock/minimal/maximal/avant/free are phrases that only give you fleeting glimpses of what each artist represents. What we do know is that via a sprawling range of sound that is always uncompromising these two artists have pushed each other into a stunning realm of alchemy. The Dead Sea Apes create a hypnotic pulsing sound that weaves an ecstatic line starting from a raw minimal buzz and hum that takes in eastern modes and entrancing minimalism. The music is at once dissonant and hypnotic, rich with unfurling drones that dynamically ebb and flow as a searching interplay between instruments slowly emerges from a sparse open field and builds with the tension of a looming thunder storm. The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol recording is a live recording from the farmland in Richmond this year when Mr Cardinal Fuzz journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean to have his brain well and truly fried by these Ottawa acid punks. For this show TBWNIS was expanded to a 9 piece with the addition of Saskatoons Christopher Laramee (Shooting Guns, Wasted Cathedral, The Switching Yard..) and Mrs. Carol Lane (Resin Scraper/Beld). TBWNIS emerged to play as the Sun set over the never-ending Horizon and the Mozzies came out to play - And proceeded to lay down a barrage of high energy, free flowing ecstatic blues - like an endorphin spike into your cortex that felt like your head was sandwiched between the amplifiers as wave after wave of unrelenting free flowing orgasmic energy exploded within. Take note I was on some home made cookies that had me well and truly blasted as I merged with the universe and the vibrations emitting from the stage - it was a good place. 500 pressing. Black vinyl with a Brett Savage sleeve design based on the famous and much loved bootleg label - TAKRL.

DONOVAN - THE HURDY GURDY MAN
Donovan wrote and recorded much of 'The Hurdy Gurdy Man' in late 1967, not long after recording the songs that would form 'A Gift From A Flower To A Garden.' The rest of 'The Hurdy Gurdy Man' was recorded in April 1968, after he visited Rishikesh in India to study Transcendental Meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. John Lennon, Cynthia Lennon, George Harrison, Pattie Boyd, Paul McCartney, Jane Asher, Ringo Starr, Mia Farrow, Prudence Farrow and Mike Love were there as well. Harrison wrote a verse for 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' when they were in India, but it was cut from the studio version in order to ensure that the song was not overly long for a single.

This is a limited edition release on red vinyl - 500 copies! Mountain were originally formed in 1969 by Leslie West, Corky Laing and Felix Pappalardi as the American answer to Cream.
Their debut single 'Mississippi Queen' reached number 21 in the billboard charts in 1970 and is featured here on this live set, as well as their versions of Cream classics 'Crossroads,' 'Politician' and 'Sunshine of Your Love.' Replacing Felix Pappalardi on bass guitar is Richie Scarlet who also played with Ace Frehley of Kiss fame.

MOUNTAIN MOVERS - WALKING AFTER DARK (2LP)
The current lineup of New Haven's long running Mountain Movers have been playing together for over a decade now, and to those that are tuned in, the feeling of communion is evident in the Movers' playing. The members swap and cycle effortlessly through instruments without missing a beat, utilizing the downtime of lockdown to write and record every jam in their practice space. Those piles of tapes would eventually get edited and sequenced into 'Walking After Dark,' a tour-de-force double-album that balances fried, stony brilliance with outré excursions of experimental serenity. Consider the opening track 'Bodega On My Mind' that ambles in like a road-worn traveller,
its lysergic folk strums peppered with acidic lead lines from Battalene's Telecaster, eventually giving way to 'The Sun Shines On The Moon,' where the group's sizzling guitars are buoyed by Omonte's pillowy bass and Menze's percussion. From there on out, tracks like 'Factory Dream' give the listener a taste of The Movers' modus operandi here; a mixture of (more) traditional song craft interspersed between long-form, improvised pieces of modern psychedelia. The group shuffles through instruments; synths, drum machines, auto-harp, various forms of percussion (and whatever else was laying around) as well as the trad guitar/bass/drums configuration to craft a suite of songs that - while not necessarily similar in composition - feel unified in their overall sonic scope. Tracks like the 14-minute 'Reclamation Yard,' whose deep-space
electronic pulse is juxtaposed against side C opener 'See The City's persistent acoustic strum that showcase similar ideas of the 'spirituality' of losing ones self in repetition, but executed differently. In many ways 'Walking After Dark's duality feels like a merger of 'On The Beach'-era Neil Young and the collective freak-outs of Amon Düül, taking inspiration in the 'incorporeality' of free music and lacing it with Greene's hazy, haunting lyricism and is an exciting step forward for a band that's already a few steps ahead.

An acid construction built on the freshly cemented punk basement! This historic sole album from Planet Gong captures Daevid Allen and Gilli smyth with the classic '70s line-up of Here & Now on their 1977 'Floating Anarchy' tour. Planet Gong would prove to be Daevid Allen's jumping space-punk into his music, a kind of transitional project between the Canterbury Gong sound and his prog-punk era. Recorded live, the music on this album is a wild, spacey psychedelic jam. The rough load comes from crazed and rhythms, led by Allen and Smyth's ever-distinctive sound, clearly marked by Here & Now's anarchist style. Billy Mahonie is proud to return with new music for the first time in 15 years in thier original line-up with an album packed with their trademark melodies and hook. These eight instrumentals have an energy and charm that sets the quartet apart from the sometimes daunting post-rock genre. It's considered their best since the classic 1999 debut 'The Big Dig,' thus it deserves to bring them a new generation of fans.
Recorded over two long weekends in 2019 and 2022 (either side of Covid 19 lockdowns), it features completed songs half written decades ago as well as new songs written in the last couple of years. In many ways they have gone more simple, and yet it feels wider and deeper and with some nods to their heroes on the way. Released on 180 gram black vinyl.

One of the most exciting live bands in the world, Belgian 3-piece Brutus, released this live record in October 2020, capturing this incendiary outfit in their hometown of Ghent in front of 750 of their most die hard fans at this special, sold out show. With an album cover depicting Peter's (Mulders, bass guitar) step-son, who wrote out their set-list on the night of the recorded show, 'Live In Ghent' went some way to giving fans a taste of what they were missing in 2020 thanks to the ceasing of actual live shows. The band explain a bit more - "When the real world went into lockdown, early March 2020, a year of live music disappeared before our eyes. Going on tour, playing festivals, watching bands, it's all gone. It was as hard for us as it has been for everybody involved in live music. As a remedy, we took the time to look back on what we had already done and collected the footage we had of our previous shows. Painful and healing at the same time. That's when we stumbled upon the recordings of our show at Handelsbeurs in Ghent, May 2019. A hometown show we fully recorded and filmed after a period of touring, in front of all our family and friends. We know it's just a recording and not even close to the real feeling we had on stage, but looking back, we feel absolutely proud about that show." Released on black/orange vinyl.

"How the fuck are we going to turn this into a song?" That's the question Lou Barlow and John Davis have asked themselves since co-founding The Folk Implosion in the early 1990s.
Beginning with improvised jams featuring Lou Barlow on bass and John Davis on drums, the duo develop their beat-driven pop collages from the ground up. It's the process they used on their debut cassette, 'Walk Through This World' with the Folk Implosion, and one they've returned to 30 years later on their spellbinding, self-referencing reunion, 'Walk Thru Me.'
Separated from their homes in Massachusetts and North Carolina, Barlow and Davis collaborated remotely, flashing back to their early friendship as penpals. A sweaty bass and drums session went down in Barlow's attic, before they booked studio time.

So much about the album feels of-a-kind with its predecessors; field recordings and found sound permeate, narrative songwriting crashes into heady, swirling compositions. Jenkins sings with what can only be described as a powerwhisper (think Sufjan Stevens, Annie Lennox, Margo Timmins or YHF-era Tweedy), her vocals up close and intimate but subtly confrontational. "It's like a demon enters the room, whenever we get together", writer, singer and instrumentalist Cross says of the struggle to bring new Loma music into the world. Following the release of their 2020 second album 'Don't Shy Away,' Loma's three members were cast around the globe and the band-not for the first time-entered a deep sleep. In an attempt to salvage the record and the band, Cross suggested they regroup. With minimal recording gear and few instruments, Loma turned two whitewashed rooms into a makeshift studio, using a padded coffin as a vocal booth. What emerged was 'How Will I Live Without A Body?': a gorgeous, unique, and oddly comforting album about partnership, loss, regeneration, and fighting the feeling that we're all in this alone. Many of its songs have a feeling of restless motion; faceless characters drift through meetings and partings, tangling together and slipping away.

'Crocodile Promises,' the 2024 album from legendary post-punk/goth rock act The March Violets builds upon the band's 40 year legacy. Founding members Rosie Garland and Tom
Ashton are now joined by bassist Mat Thorpe (who already contributed to the 2007 mini-album 'Trinity EP'). 'Crocodile Promises' finds the March Violets in top form, creating a reinvigorated take on its trademark boundary-shredding goth-tinged post punk. The March Violets started in 1981 as one of Leeds' four famous drum machine bands and were label mates in the beginning of The Sisters Of Mercy. Their first two singles ('Religious As Hell' and 'Grovving In Green,' both 1982) indeed were out on Andrew Eldritch's Merciful Release label. The band released a number of highly successful singles under ever changing line-ups (incl. William Faith of Faith & The Muse and The Bellwether Syndicate) between 1982 and 1986 and 2 compilations of their singles appeared in 1984 and 1985 - but there was no official debut album until year 2013 (the album 'Made Glorious')!

Originally released in October 2000, 'The Coroner's Gambit' finds John Darnielle between physical and sonic spaces. The album came together slowly; the Mountain Goats had released music every year from 1991 to 1998, but between the release of that year's 'New Asian Cinema' EP and 'The Coroner's Gambit,' 1999 passed without an official Mountain Goats release. The additional time that went into 'The Coroner's Gambit' paid off: it is a breakthrough for Darnielle as a songwriter and practitioner of the full-length album.

"How the fuck are we going to turn this into a song?" That's the question Lou Barlow and John Davis have asked themselves since co-founding The Folk Implosion in the early 1990s.
Beginning with improvised jams featuring Lou Barlow on bass and John Davis on drums, the duo develop their beat-driven pop collages from the ground up. It's the process they used on their debut cassette, 'Walk Through This World' with the Folk Implosion, and one they've returned to 30 years later on their spellbinding, self-referencing reunion, 'Walk Thru Me.'
Separated from their homes in Massachusetts and North Carolina, Barlow and Davis collaborated remotely, flashing back to their early friendship as penpals. A sweaty bass and drums session went down in Barlow's attic, before they booked studio time.

Cassandra Jenkins is quite simply one of the best songwriter-storytellers currently making music. She finds herself in a singular corner of the Great American Songwriters, artists like David Berman, Adrianne Lenker, Jeff Tweedy and Sufjan Stevens. They're artists connected by a sense of immediacy, not just in the writing - which is precise,
evocative, brutal at times, pitch-back funny right when you need it - but by their delivery, by the way they sing with an immersive, total belief that carries you through their songs. These are the artists and songs that sneak up and really live with us forever, and on 'My Light, My Destroyer, Jenkins joins their ranks. What's most remarkable about 'My Light, My Destroyer' is it captures an artist at an exciting leap in her evolution. So much about the album feels of-a-kind with its predecessors; field recordings and found sound permeate, narrative songwriting crashes into heady, swirling compositions. Jenkins sings with what can only be described as a powerwhisper (think Sufjan Stevens, Annie Lennox, Margo Timmins or YHF-era Tweedy), her vocals up close and intimate but subtly confrontational. But it all feels bigger here, more
finely honed, bolder and richer than her previous work and than her peers. On 'My Light, My Destroyer,' many of the songs are devoted to specific feelings, and to really getting inside those feelings as opposed to getting inside a narrative arc. Lead single "Only one" is one example, as Jenkins's asserts that a moment, or a song, can be wholly myopic; it can embody a singular feeling, and provides no answers. Songs like 'Devotion,' 'Delphinium Blue,' 'Clams Casino,' 'Echo,' and 'Only One' speak to the liberating quality of focused observation, even to the point of disillusionment.

"It's like a demon enters the room, whenever we get together", writer, singer and instrumentalist Cross says of the struggle to bring new Loma music into the world. Following the release of their 2020 second album 'Don't Shy Away,' Loma's three members were cast around the globe and the band-not for the first time-entered a deep sleep. In an attempt to salvage the record and the band, Cross suggested they regroup. With minimal recording gear and few instruments, Loma turned two whitewashed rooms into a makeshift studio, using a padded coffin as a vocal booth. What emerged was 'How Will I Live Without A Body?': a gorgeous, unique, and oddly comforting album about partnership, loss, regeneration, and fighting the feeling that we're all in this alone. Many of its songs have a feeling of restless motion; faceless characters drift through meetings and partings, tangling together and slipping away.

'Crocodile Promises,' the 2024 album from legendary post-punk/goth rock act The March Violets builds upon the band's 40 year legacy. Founding members Rosie Garland and Tom
Ashton are now joined by bassist Mat Thorpe (who already contributed to the 2007 mini-album 'Trinity EP'). 'Crocodile Promises' finds the March Violets in top form, creating a reinvigorated take on its trademark boundary-shredding goth-tinged post punk. The March Violets started in 1981 as one of Leeds' four famous drum machine bands and were label mates in the beginning of The Sisters Of Mercy. Their first two singles ('Religious As Hell' and 'Grovving In Green,' both 1982) indeed were out on Andrew Eldritch's Merciful Release label. The band released a number of highly successful singles under ever changing line-ups (incl. William Faith of Faith & The Muse and The Bellwether Syndicate) between 1982 and 1986 and 2 compilations of their singles appeared in 1984 and 1985 - but there was no official debut album until year 2013 (the album 'Made Glorious')!

It is still a meticulously composed, delicately layered and pristinely produced piece of work that, in true W.H. Lung style, runs the gauntlet from dance to pop to indie while still capturing that distinctly unique quality that is unquestionably their own. While the band have drilled deeper into finding their own singular identity, it's not a record resting on its laurels. It's a significant leap forward, expanding on their solid foundations while also breaking new ground. The band's overall mission for the album was to revert to a classic songwriting structure and for the production to come afterwards. And so what you have on this record are deeply considered and well-crafted songs, then recorded with blistering intensity in the moment, and then given a touch of experimentation afterwards.

Toronto-based musician and producer David Psutka aka ACT! (f.k.a. Egyptrixx/Anamai/Ceramic TL) releases his project 'Face To Face, Day By Day' for his own Halocline Trance imprint.
This is is Psutka's third album proper as ACT! following the release of the "sonic mixtape" 'Universalist' in 2018 and the augmented reality soundtrack 'Grey Matter AR' in 2021; a series of Snapchat filters created by artist Karen Vanderborght and soundtracked by ACT! which explored the poetic and existential potential of AR and social media. Psutka said about the recording of the album that he had a few months to sit with this album and see clear throughlines connecting it to previous projects. There are aspects of the experiential and structuralist sound design ideas from the Egyptrixx records; and also some arrangement tricks borrowed from Anamai - specifically, the use of interruptionist sound events. Perhaps most of all, it feels connected to the Ceramic TL + Ipek Gorgun record 'Perfect Lung' and its splattered take on musical complexity. Many of Psutka's releases have received critical acclaim from media outlets such as Pitchfork, Exclaim, The Quietus and Resident Advisor. The contributions on this album, from Robin Dann and Ben Gunning, reflect the deeply collaborative nature of the Halocline Trance label and the Toronto creative scene more broadly.

It's been three years since Glasgow musical collective Nightshift's last album ('Zöe', 2021) and aside form an odds and sods tape compilation 'Made Of The Earth,' the group has remained relatively quiet on the recorded front. Newly regrouped into a quartet, the band has readied their proper follow up to 'Zöe' and their third album 'Homosapien,' again for Chicago's Trouble In Mind Records. On 'Homosapien' the lyricist wears her heart on her sleeve, but even in the song's darkest moments, the words create a sense of hope and potential. She doesn't shy away from politics or contemporary love languages and finds humor, earnestness, and critique at every turn. Nightshift's newest songs were born out of some genuinely existential times (birth, death and love all played a very real part in the gestation of the new record). Songs like first single 'Crystal Ball,' 'Cut' and 'Side Effects' all touch upon struggle created by an ever encroaching fascist government (exacerbated by Brexit) & the effects austerity has upon their people. Other songs like 'Sure Look,' 'Phone' and 'Crush' deal with matters of the heart while 'Your Good Self' and 'Together We Roll' take on self-preservation and community. It's a great irony that the band are sculpting their most succinct and tuneful music yet from this potential chaos, but it's this unexpected quality that drives them onwards into a dizzying universe.

This bonus edition of Schulze collects the third and fourth pieces of his 'Ballett' releases. Klaus Schulze talks about 'Ballett': "Apart from 'Ballett 1 & 2' the 'Contemporary Works' boxset also contained 'Ballett 3' and 'Ballett 4.' All four pieces were originally intended to be one composition in honor to my mother who had been a ballet dancer and had died in 1998. I never assumed that the ballet would be performed with dancing. Then I would have to cut down to about 15 or 20 minutes and would probably have to throw away all my favorite parts, which would be quite difficult! The music could have had another title but since it was the first production I did after the death of my mother, I called it 'Ballett' and just numbered the four parts. 'Ballett 3' once again features traditional instrumentalists such as Thomas Kagermann (violin, flute), Wolfgang Tiepold (cello) and Tobias Becker (oboe). Obviously, I could have played Tobi's oboe or Tiepold's cello with a sampler but it's really something different when those instruments are played live as there is a wonderful interaction with my electronics. Then, you not only have the instruments but also the musicians' ego. If I play a cello sample then I'll do it the way I play keyboards. However, a cellist or oboist plays the "real" instrument with all the subtleties that come with playing, which a sample can never reproduce. The pure sound of an instrument is not the crucial thing here however. It's the musician's personality that is important as it determines the character of the music."

They were probably right because Klaus created the songs a little with the fans in mind for whom the sounds of the previous album were too modern. In this respect 'In Blue' is a more traditional Schulze record and also because it featured Manuel Goettsching on 'Return Of The Tempel.' He came to the idea to ask Manuel if he didn't feel like playing a certain piece of music again when required. CLARK, SONNY - BLUES IN THE NIGHT
The piano trio material included in this reissue, constitutes a body of work which was never released in LP format during Sonny Clark's tragically short life. Clark was an underrated master of the hard bop genre who had a very subtle, artful touch. On this date, he exhibits the influence of Ahmad Jamal and Red Garland (a lighter sound) and less of the Bud Powell-inspired, hard-driving bebop lines. The arrangements are simple and concise; the tunes are all well-known standards. Sonny's conception is quite accessible-relaxed tempos and blues-inflected improvisations. His chord voicings and harmonies are exquisite on "I Cover the Waterfront," "Somebody Loves Me," "Dancing in the Dark," and Cole Porter's "All of You."

Les Chakachas' 'Discoteca Sudamericana' has been released by CBS Sugar in 1974 and when it originally came out it did not receive the attention it deserved. At least not the same as the previous album, a club classic with dancefloor bangers as 'Stories' and 'The Party.' But if we take a deeper look at the album, 'Disco Sudamericana' is much richer in terms of catchy tracks and killer grooves. 'Super Cat,' 'Liza & Brooks' or 'Selling Mango' are just some of the peaks here. It is then amazing to discover that such an exotic band came from Belgium! We stress to remember anyway that Tito Puente's wife is the lead singer here, giving the session an appealing Latin flavor. This is yet another major release on the legendary Easy Tempo label, offering this time two extra tracks not featured on the original release!

FOY, BUNNIE - THE GYPSY (WAY-O)
This extraordinary 1974 album, which Mono Jazz is reissuing on the occasion of RT 30 (the celebration of Right Tempo's thirty years of activity), is a tribute to the great Trinidadian pianist Sonnie Taylor who in these recordings, accompanied by the singer Bunnie Foy, expresses all his musical nature connected to Africa and the spiritual roots of jazz music. Many of you will recall Mayfra Combo, well, the leader of that seminal soul jazz ensemble was Sonnie Taylor. "I'm a Harlem Flower" says Bunnie "I was born right in Harlem, where I've listened to an infinite number of popular songs of all kinds since I was a child. That's why I learned to sing spirituals, blues, classic and modern jazz pieces by Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerlad, and even calypso and African music. These are things that are all equally familiar to me. On this record, for example, I interpret a Gershwin medley but also 'Go Down Moses' which is spiritual, 'Uelelé' which is an Angolan piece and 'Way-O Comin' Home' which comes from the Caribbean."
Her real name is Shirley, but the nickname - which in Italian means bunny - grew up with her. She arrived in Italy in 1968 after a very flattering career start, during which she collaborated with famous names such as Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane. When she decided to settle in Milan she had already been to France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and North Africa. Sonnie Taylor, the distinguished pianist and organist who leads the nine recordings contained herein, is a native of Trinidad. He has performed in England, Spain and Italy with a rhythm and blues ensemble. He currently leads a quintet that plays Afro-Cuban music. For about a year he has been working with Bunnie Foy on her concert tours.

Extremely obscure rare groove album recorded in Argentina in 1974 and produced by great radio and music producer Mochin Marafioti. It has been impossible to learn who the musicians of the amazing session were. Soul, funk, psychedelia and Latin melt into a sort of funkadelic sound. Spoken intro, sensual vocals and a monster rhythm section flirt with wah wah guitars and catchy melodies. A truly hidden treasure brought back to life by legendary Easy Tempo crew and destined to please the worldwide rare groove clubbing nation. To the original recording edits by Andrea Passenger are added, done in the spirit of the classic disco music manipulators like Tom Moulton, Danny Krivit and Walter Gibbons. To be played very loud.

On the occasion of RT 30 (the celebration of Right Tempo's thirty years of activity) the Italian record company has decided, among other things, to publish a new volume of this successful series. The 'Easy Tempo' series, born in 1996, aimed to disseminate a sound linked to black culture (in its broadest meaning and most varied forms) with contaminations ranging from psychedelia to vintage electronics through soul, funk and jazz. Having drawn from the world of soundtracks did not arise from a specific passion in this area, but from the simple fact that that universe offered a vast repertoire, however submerged, of music suitable for the 'groove' vocation of Right Tempo, as well as a distinctive sign of national identity, considering the caliber of the composers and musicians involved in writing and performing the music featured in the different tracking lists of the series. To that respect, starting from volume 11 that you are holding in your hand, 'Easy Tempo' will expand its editorial horizons, including tracks taken from obscure, underrated and/or hard to find records that transcend the congested world of soundtracks. It should also be emphasized that, given the label international vocation, the repertoire from which they will draw will no longer be limited to Italian record productions, but will have a global perspective. The sound journey you are about to embark on is steeped in soul, funk, jazz, Latin, psychedelia, with a pinch of electronics at times. Travelling flutes, tight and driving rhythm patterns and rich and colorful arrangements perfectly indicate the 'Easy Tempo' series' new direction. The most intriguing and ubiquitous aspect is particularly incisive thanks to the 'cinematic' cut given to the selection. This new chapter will meet the expectations of all those who have enjoyed the ten previous volumes of this collection of sounds and emotions over time.

Les Chakachas' 'Discoteca Sudamericana' has been released by CBS Sugar in 1974 and when it originally came out it did not receive the attention it deserved. At least not the same as the previous album, a club classic with dancefloor bangers as 'Stories' and 'The Party.' But if we take a deeper look at the album, 'Disco Sudamericana' is much richer in terms of catchy tracks and killer grooves. 'Super Cat,' 'Liza & Brooks' or 'Selling Mango' are just some of the peaks here. It is then amazing to discover that such an exotic band came from Belgium! We stress to remember anyway that Tito Puente's wife is the lead singer here, giving the session an appealing Latin flavor. This is yet another major release on the legendary Easy Tempo label, offering this time two extra tracks not featured on the original release!
