The Goblin Market is a long-time side project of Green Pajamas members Laura Weller and Jeff Kelly. The music draws inspiration from both art and literature. The duos third and latest album, Beneath Far Gondals Foreign Sky, takes another foray into 19th century England with a focus on the work of the Bronte sisters. The songs focus primarily on Emily, author of Wuthering Heights as well as numerous poems, many of which the subject is the imaginary land of Gondal, a place conceived by Emily in her youth.
The songs on their first album, Ghostland, focused on 19th century England, including Pre-Raphaelite art and poetry. In fact, the name Goblin Market comes from the famous Christina Rossetti poem written at the height of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Their second record, Haunted, featured songs inspired by the writings of American author Joyce Carol Oates, especially her more "gothic" short stories and novels.
Juicy bits: Limited edition numbered release of 500 copies. Both Jeff and Laura are members of The Green Pajamas, whose new album Death by Misadventure is due in the spring of 2012. Laura is also a member of longtime Seattle-based band Capping Day.
Track Listing: The Night is Darkening Around Me, Remembrance,
The Lock, The Night Wind, Tell Me, Tell Me, Song (The Linnet In The Rocky Dells), High Waving Heather, If This Be All, The Moorland Ghost, A Reminiscence, Love Song (Beneath Far Gondals Foreign Sky), A Lonely Thing.

JIM OF SEATTLE - WE ARE ALL FAMOUS

JIM OF SEATTLE - WE ARE ALL FAMOUS

Jim of Seattle makes a lot of different kinds of music. Somehow it all fits. Take some Van Dyke Parks, stir in some Beach Boys, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Dr. Suess and maybe youve got a start. Hmm. You might as well toss in Mancini, They Might Be Giants and Bjork ... read more »
