PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

ALIEN MUSTANGS - SUNRAYS/FOREST (7"/HYPNOTIC BRIDGE)

Harnessing the equine-like spirit of certain otherworldly entities, Alien Mustangs forge a fresh path through the psychedelic wilderness, sometimes glancing at maps sketched by The 13th Floor Elevators, Loop, Stooges and Spacemen 3, but more often exploring enticing new frontiers. Emanating sonically (and physically) from Thessaloniki, Greece, the band has been crafting its unique blend of '60s-flavored, hypnotic, space-psych trippiness since 2013, releasing their debut LP "Alienation" in 2018. Propelled by psychic waveforms like a lightsail powered by solar radiation, "Sunrays" transports listeners beyond Earth's orbit, into the rarefied company of the guitar gods of Ganymede-along with the first three spacemen to smoke cannabis on the moon. Prepare for blastoff at 2:40. "Forest" is the soundtrack of a trip through verdant wilderness, shafts of sunlight breaking through the canopy above, dragonflies and hummingbirds zipping overhead as dryads leave gifts of sacred mushrooms alongside the path ahead.

ENBATTA, MARK -'S TRIBE- - MARK ENBATTA'S TRIBE (LP/BAM BALAM)

Mark Enbatta's recording career started in 1982 with The Vietnam Veterans. Although an official split was declared in 1987, the members of the band never stopped working together under various names like The Curanderos, The Late Veterans, The Veterans, The Vietnam Chain, The Smiling Droopies, The Gitanes or even on solo projects. By the way, the audience never stopped calling them The Vietnam Veterans... There was nothing you could do about it! When Lucas Trouble died in 2016, Mark officially declared they wouldn't use the original band's name anymore. Lucas wasn't an original member but he was Mark's friend and partner in crime since the early days. The further psychedelic adventures of The Vietnam Veterans will now happen as The Tribe. Same singer/songwriter, two former members of the VV's and a new bassist. The Tribe's first album is maybe darker than what people could expect but Mark wrote it during Lucas Trouble's agony. Five years after 'A Fistful Of Love', here is another trip inside haunted human minds. Some bad trips give special emotions.

MELTING CLOCK - DESTINAZIONI (2LP) (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

Melting Clock is a musical project born in the Faculty of Physics, University of Genoa, in 2001. At the time the group's aim, which brought together experienced musicians and beginners, was sheer amusement and musical growth, pursued through the covering of songs by more and less known bands of the progressive rock scene. Over the years the pieces studied have influenced Melting Clock's sound: much attention has been paid to some of the most interesting contemporary bands such as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Opeth, Ayreon, without however neglecting milestones that have made the history of the progressive genre like Pink Floyd, Genesis and PFM. Melting Clock have undergone many line up changes: alongside the four founding members Sandro Amadei (keyboards and vocals), Stefano Amadei (guitars), Alessandro Bosca (bass guitar) and Francesco Fiorito (drums), Simone Caffè (guitars) and Emanuela Vedana (vocals) more recently joined the band. The skills acquired and the renewed enthusiasm led to the decision to devote to the composing of original music. Melting Clock's style is characterized by evocative and powerful sounds, which aim at immediately capturing the listener - without giving up elements of complexity - and conveying a strong emotional charge. Lyrics are in their mother tongue, Italian. They fully follow the spirit of progressive music in our free approach to writing and interest in contamination from the most diverse genres.

MOONRITE - LET ME BE YOUR GOD (LP/TOPSY TURVY)

Heavily attracted by the mix of genres "gothic/pop/psychedelic", the two brothers from Grenoble, France (including Yann Cracker from Towerbrown and The Gentlemen's Agreements) play dark and groovy music, that sounds like a gloomy hippie trip interpreted with an original organ/drum line up. After their fantastic debut album, the duo further developed their sound and now serves us their second LP 'Let Me Be Your God'. Their sound has become even darker and, just like the artwork its covered in, more occult while adding synthesizer and slightly descending musically from the '60s towards the '70s and '80s.

As a ten year celebration they are really proud to announce that these three albums are finally released on vinyl and that this whole prolific era of their musical journey is getting an overhaul with many unearthed recordings receiving a first time airing. Limited to 150 copies on mustard coloured vinyl.

SKELETON GOODE - SKELETON GOODE (LP/MEGA DODO)

Sài Gòn based artist Skeleton Goode is the nom de plume of Jack Briggs - an English guitarist and songwriter. Skeleton Goode provides Jack with the opportunity to drag his maladies from post-industrial North-East England, through the sticky heat of the Mekong Delta and into your ears. Nuggets of disjointed pop-sike for your listening pleasure. The recently recruited Skeleton Goode Band (an international 4-piece consisting of American, Japanese and English musicians) have just returned from a 3 week SE Asian tour and are champing-at-the-bit to perform their wistful ditties to a brand-new audience.

TEMNEE - DIALECTICS (BLACK) (LP/SOUND EFFECT)

Spiritualistic session in space. Supersonic travel to singularity on an acid fuzz. Epic odyssey in the depths of consciousness. Hypnotic jams with orgasmic catharsis. Outstanding psychedelic trip iridescent with all shades of outer and inner space. And all that's Temnee. 'Dialectics' is the debut full-length album of Temnee, the band from Tver, Russia. Powerful instrumental heavy-psych stoner with deep and thick riffs, psychedelic passages, southern blues jams, oriental melodies, a lot of Sabbath's legacy and a krautrock drive.

YETTI - YETTI (LP/DRONE ROCK)

The 28th release on Drone Rock Records is the debut album by Yetti from Brighton, UK. This group plays heavy stoner-rock reminiscent of The Heads. Comes on clear vinyl. Only a handful available, so be fast!

CHRISTMAS, KEITH - FABLE OF THE WINGS (LP/MAGIC BOX)

The second album by this gifted British underground singer-songwriter was originally released in October 1970. Featuring superb acoustic guitar from Christmas, as well as expert backing from members of Mighty Baby and a stunning duet with the enigmatic Shelagh McDonald, it's finally made available again here.

HARD STUFF - BULLETPROOF (+CD) (LP/MAGIC BOX)

Led by underground guitar hero John Du Cann (formerly of Andromeda and Atomic Rooster) and also featuring bassist John Gustafson (Quatermass) and drummer Paul Hammond (Atomic Rooster), this energetic trio's debut is packed with crunching riffs and wailing solos, and benefits from a strikingly clear production. Originally released in May 1972, it's nothing short of a lost hard rock classic, and is finally made available again here, accompanied by a CD with three bonus tracks.

HIGHWAY (USA) - HIGHWAY (LP/ALTERNATIVE FOX)

Obscure Minnesota-based power trio Highway has a long and convoluted history. In 1965, guitarist/vocalist Steve Murphy joined The Epicureans, a band formed from the ashes of The Pacers and The Corsairs, both previously active in the town of Fairmont, located southeast of the state capital, Minneapolis. The group issued a couple of singles along the way (both on small independents, which unfortunately failed to generate much interest), and ultimately morphed into Highway in 1972, then with Murphy and fellow Epicureans Tim Messerli on keyboards and vocals, Tom Olson on drums and John Goossen on bass. After opening for REO Speedwagon in Wisconsin, Olson was replaced by Dan Cammarata and Goossen by Eric Bannister. The resultant group's self-titled debut album was recorded at Westminster Studio, near Fort Dodge in neighbouring Iowa, during a time when Highway was based in the tiny town of Ceylon, Minnesota; privately pressed in only 500 copies, it has since become a highly sought-after item for its unusual blend of melodic hard-rock lead guitar, psychedelic garage rock and wistful, country-tinged blues rock. Although some fans and critics have compared the group to Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash, primarily because of the melodic and distortion-free lead guitar licks, the band has a sound all their own, especially since all three members provide vocals, as well as fierce instrumental licks, with furious drum rolls from Cammarata and Murphy and Bannister sometimes playing the same notes in unison. Highway's membership did not remain static for long and the group has since undergone further changes to yield the enduring Murphy Brothers band, yet their sole LP remains the most prized testament of their long, shifting tenure.

MORSE CODE - LA MARCHES DES HOMMES (LP/RETURN TO ANALOG)

Reissue of third album by this progressive rock band from Quebec, Canada, also known as Morse Code Transmission. Originally released in 1975.

RALLIZES DENUDES/TAJ MAHAL TRAVELLERS - OZ DAYS LIVE 1973 (LP/ALTERNATIVE FOX)

Japanese experimental group Les Rallizes Denudes are the ultimate rock'n'roll enigma. Sometimes referred to as Hadaka no Rallizes or even as Hadaka no Rarizu, each appellation a variant of the name "Fucked Up and Naked" which equates to being high on hard drugs, they are seen as noise-rock pioneers, yet sifting fact from fiction isn't easy with their oddball tale. Emerging from the radical hippie communes of Kyoto during the late 1960s, the band was formed in November 1967 by university student Takashi Mizutani, taking the overamplified, distorted guitar of the Velvet Underground as a starting point. Early demo recordings apparently suffered from poor sound quality, leading the perfectionist Mizutani to retreat from the studio environment, meaning that most of the group's output has appeared as live bootlegs, with the occasional studio demo surfacing as well. Performances were initially staged as part of avant-garde theatre, though the band's propensity for super- loud noise soon put paid to such collaboration; the ever-changing membership saw Mizutani the only permanent force, despite his embroilment in the 1970 Red Army hijacking of a civilian Japan Airlines flight, enacted partly through bass player, Moriaki Wakabayashi, who defected to North Korea in its aftermath. Though perhaps not quite as notorious, fellow improvisational group, Taj Mahal Travellers, has a backstory of random international travels that is almost as intriguing as that of Les Rallizes; formed in 1969 by six experimental musicians and an electronic engineer, they embarked on a series of improvisational gigs across Japan, notably including an all-day marathon held at a Kanagawa beach, and made their way to Europe in 1971, where they crossed paths with Don Cherry and other likeminded practitioners. They later drove from Holland to the Pakistan border, acquiring santoors in Iran on the way to help broaden their already unpredictable repertoire. The 'Oz Days Live' release is culled from the Oz Last Days festival held in the autumn of 1973, to benefit Tokyo's Oz Rock Café, which had been closed following repeated drug busts. Here the Taj Mahal Travellers are suitably cosmic, their echoing jams featuring looped vocal chants, disjointed string instruments and sparse, off-kilter percussion; in contrast, the contributions from Les Rallizes are more standard examples of instrumental psychedelic rock, which veers more towards the acid rock end of the spectrum as the performance progresses.

FUMIO & OSAMU - SHIN CHUGOKU (CD/EVERLAND PSYCH)

'Shin Chugoku' (1972) is a beautiful early 1970s psychedelic folk rock effort, on which Osamu Kitajima cooperated with Fumio Miyashita (aka Far Out) and members of the very popular Far East Family Band, to create a bunch of mind altering colorful tunes with a mellow, yet intense approach.

KITAJIMA, OSAMU - BENZAITEN (CD/EVERLAND PSYCH)

'Benzaiten' (1976) is an album which is called Osamu Kitajima's masterpiece by many aficionadoes of 1970s progressive rock, with its mixture of haunting Japanese folk elements and skillfully played spacey rock music that takes you on a spiritual journey to the center of your mind.

KITAJIMA, OSAMU - DRAGON KING (CD/EVERLAND PSYCH)

The step from 'Masterless Samurai' to 'Dragon King' (1981) has not been such a big one as it has been with the albums before. We experience a softer version of Osamu's jazz rock/Japanese folk fusion, that often even shows soul pop aspects, typical for it's time.

KITAJIMA, OSAMU - MASTERLESS SAMURAI (CD/EVERLAND PSYCH)

On 'Masterless Samurai' (1980) Osamu completely abandons the space rock aspects here and takes a turn into jazz rock with a progressive edge, that he still combines with these totally exotical sounding Japanese folk elements.

KITAJIMA, OSAMU - OSAMU (CD/EVERLAND PSYCH)

'Osamu' (1977) is Osamu Kitajima's third album which marks another change in direction. Still Japanese elements and some haunting melodic space rock elements flow gently into another, but by incorporating jazz, funk and even reggae, Osamu broadens the whole musical colour palette by far.

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

VARIOUS - WHO WILL BUY THESE WONDERFUL EVILS, VOL. 6 (LP/BUSY BEE PRODUCTION)

Since 2003 the 'Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils' series has conducted archeological diggings in record vaults and sound archives constantly in search of hidden artefacts and smooth hits worth shining a light on again. The Swedish '60s and '70s produced a mind expanding mixture of happy-go-lucky pop and feral grooves and way too many tracks didn't reach their audience, neither in its homecountry nor the rest of the world. The 'Who Will Buy' series is on a mission to save a slice of Swedish pop-history from the grubby paws of connoisseurs and collectors. Vol. 6 includes everything from Swedish Beatles-covers to mind melting freak outs. Quietly bubbling introspection, mysterious agent-pop, finger tapping cocktail lounge and sun kissed summer pop with its shirt off. SIDE 1: 1.Titti Sjöblom - Vi Kan Börja Om 2. Black Mike's Waterloo - Lapini 3. Taste Of Blues - Schizofrenia 4. Bo Nilsson - Gorillan Går In 5. Ulla & Ammi - Ett Ord SIDE 2: 1. Lee Kings - Coming From The Ground 2. Raunchy - Flygmaskin 3. Tony Lightfoot - Cocaine Blues 4. Fire - Sommaren Är Skön 5. Rowing Gamblers - A World Of Roses

VLAD & THE IMPALERS - SERFS UP! (7"/SOUNDFLAT)

'Ghoul A Go-Go' is an American TV-show based on the American tradition of the Horror Host of the 1950s and 60s á la Vampira and Zacherle. The show itself started in 2000 and ever since has not only become a cult TV-show including a lot of musical gems (such as star appearances by Hasil Adkins or The 5678's), but the show also does many live-shows, hosting horror conventions, burlesque-shows and lots more. This 7" features two brilliant songs recorded by Vlad And The Impalers - Mister Vlad Tsepis being one of the spooky hosts of the show and The Impalers, who might look and sound suspiciously familiar when you compare them to our favourite German 60s-Garage-heroes THE Satelliters. You will dig the surfy sounds of the ghost guitars on the A-side 'Serfs Up!' with spooky Hammond organ, ghoulish sounds and creepy laughs by Mister Vlad Tsepis himself! The B-side is a sing-and-dance-along-tune featuring noises by the creepy Creighton and backing vocals by the Japanese girl-trio The Go-Devils! The fabulous cover artwork is made by Stephen Blickenstaff (who famously did the Cramps cover artwork for 'Bad Music For Bad People') - to make sure this single not only sounds great but also looks it! This single is an absolute must-have for anyone, who likes chilling '60s horror-films and shows, all fans of 'Ghoul A Go-Go' and of course anyone who likes some good '60s dance tunes!

CHICKENBACKERS - YEH, RIGHT, YEAH! (LP/SOUNDFLAT)

The Chickenbackers nail that '60s Merseybeat sound perfectly with their catchy melodies, tight surfy guitars and great harmonies! These newcomers from Madrid certainly have a lot to offer. Their debut-album 'Yeh Right, Yeah!' consists of fourteen fabulous tunes with true hit potential! If it is their own compositions such as 'Because I Was Blind' or 'Hipsterboy' or their fantastic cover versions of The High Numbers' mod-anthem 'Zoot Suit' or The Dxie Cups' 'I'm Gonna Get You Yet', their sound will capture you and make you dance and shake right away! You can hear it instantly, these boys just love '60s music, garage, r'n'r, beat and surf. They manage to mix all these genres playing old school beat music with their secret weapon: a combination of vocal harmonies with a huge instrumental base. The Chickenbackers will surely make you shake your hips with their rhythm and beat sound!

SHOOTS - R & BEAT (LP/HEAVY SOUL)

You dig The Pretty Things? You dig The Animals? You dig The Small Faces? What about some freakbeat, rock'n'roll and blue eyed soul? You dig Paul Orwell? Well, man, Heavy Soul! has a treat for you... the first long-player by The Shoots. Mixing raucous rhythm & blues along with some delicate soulful touches and the mighty, mighty voice of Lord Essien - the result is a scorching hot 12 inches of '60s inspired POWER. All recorded in mono and on heavyweight vinyl and featuring the single 'Two Steps'.

THEE CHA CHA CHAS - RUNNIN' OUT OF TIME (7"/SOUNDFLAT)

Thee Cha Cha Chas are a one-woman/one-man garagepunk-band from Melbourne, Australia that originally formed as a joke for a backyard battle of the bands in 2015... but the joke never stopped and we're extremely glad it didn't! This power-duo plays raw garage bubblegum-punk with '60s roots and a high dose of wit, so they are an absolute blast to watch live!

ZERODENT - NOT GOOD FOR ME (7"/ALIEN SNATCH!)

Tour 45 with exclusive songs from this Perth, Australia four piece. The unique sound of Lee Jenkins' vocals and performance and Pex' relentless power pop guitar play and Clinton's utopian pills overdosed bass lines are fused with sped-up early Television Personalities riffs.

LAS ASPIRADORAS - ANALGESIA SEDACION DELIRIO (LP/SOUNDFLAT)

Your favourite Spanish garagepunk-sensation LAS ASPIRADORAS serve yet another smashing LP! Their wild fuzz- and organdriven garagepunk with a lot of Spanish temper is what we know and love them for and is what you can also enjoy on their third album "Analgesia, Sedación, Delirio".Fantastically primitive, fuzz- and organdriven garagepunk with a wild, Spanish party atmosphere - what more can you possibly want!?

REAL TEARS - HAY FEVER (LP/ALIEN SNATCH!)

Hyperactiva punk! To cast our modern Knack, Alien Snatch! had to shovel snow for a year to dig out this four dudes in Arctica. Borrow some Sator rock guitars, make them pick up their bus ticket of Impo & The Tents to pop cul-de-sac, stitch some thrift store Redd Kross look-a-like jeans and and ask some music early semesters out-goofing Nobunny songs. Here are the Real Tears!

SMOGGERS - GET STONED ON FUZZ (LP/SOUNDFLAT)

The sixth LP by crazy garagepunkers The Smoggers - and as its title already promises, you can easily 'Get Stoned On Fuzz' while listening! The Smoggers have absolutely outdone themselves on this record with some fantastic songwriting and a perfect garagepunk sound that has a huge amount of power, tough attitude and a great deal of '80s garage revival influence in it!

TV CRIME - METAL TOWN (LP/ALIEN SNATCH!)

'Metal Town' is like a neverending night of fun and looseness. Adrenaline level does not drop, great guitar riffs, lead singer Shaun's powerful soul shouts and and glam rock driving batteries. In the Nottingham punk hall of fame TV Crime gets the denim corner. A passionate fest of garage punk, power pop and pub rock.

POP/ROCK/WAVE/NOISE

LISPECTOR - SMALL TOWN GRAFFITI (LP/TEENAGE MENOPAUSE)

Lispector is the alias of Julie Margat. She's playing, recording and releasing music since 1996, alone behind her synthesizers ans sequencers. From New York City to Brighton where she used to live for 15 years, she recorded and released hundreds of awesome cute songs which have been released as albums ('Guide To Personal Happiness') as split record (with Petit Fantôme) or as compilations (curated by Andy Votel from Finders Keepers). This album will remind you of the first listenings to Beat Happening, it's full of these sounds from a teenage era or when you understood, by listening to Lee Hazlewood songs, that writing and melodic qualities could be so astonishing. Since she's been very productive with people as Stereolab or White Horses, her music is well known in the UK indie scene, so many zines and dedicated website were eagerly awaiting this album.

SE - BANAANICONGA (LP/SVART)

Reissue of 1981 album Finnish new wave/post-punk band SE. Limited to 300 copies on black vinyl.

PUNK/HARDCORE

LE PRINCE HARRY - BE YOUR OWN ENEMY (LP/TEENAGE MENOPAUSE)

The 2019 album by this post-punk, synth-punk and cold-wave trio from Liège, Belgium.

PIOUS FAULTS - OLD THREAD (UK) (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)

Penultimate Press (UK) and Aimless Wander (Australia) present the debut album from Brisbane's Pious Faults. With 'Old Thread' this young Australian group have crafted a remarkably lucid and original vinyl debut. A sonic whirlwind of wonderfully deconstructed hardcore punk - songs stripped of inheritable form; leaping from stone to leaf to puddle in a unique, abstract manner. Pious Faults careen through nine tracks on this 45rpm 12", balancing short, disaffected hardcore punk blasts with an experimental urgency, as referenced across tracks like the massive 'Worship The Surface'. The tense physical interplay between instruments feeds powerfully beneath uninhibited, wonder-full snarls that depict a landscape of the destructive external and a keyhole view into the bruised internal. Experience is exposed here by Pious Faults. Watch on and see no mind tied to its own leap. This record is born solely out of love, amusement and all the motions that follow in their wake.

ANTHEADS - THINK FAST (7"/SUPREME ECHO)

Fast melodic punk rock from Vancouver played at hyper hardcore speed! Featuring ex-Active Dog members. Recorded summer of 1980 at Majestic Studio, Vancouver BC. All songs previously unreleased.

WIPERS - LAND OF THE LOST (LP/JACKPOT)

Jackpot Records is proud to announce the highly sought after 'Land Of The Lost' LP by Wipers. It was released in 1986 on Restless Records and has been out of print since. 'Land Of The Lost' is the follow up to their historic third studio record 'Over The Edge' and is one of the hardest Wipers titles to find. Featuring 9 original tracks and includes the original locked groove. Pressed on limited blue/gray vinyl.

INDUSTRIAL/EXPERIMENTAL/NOISE/NEOFOLK/GOTHIC

GRIM - FACTORY RITUAL (BLACK) (LP/TESCO)

The post-industrial music pioneer from Japan surprises once again with simplistic purity in noise and sound. Field recordings, junk noise and rhythms, organs and distinctive vocals - a mixture towards another great Grim experience. Comes with A4 booklet. Limited to 250 copies on black vinyl.

POST SCRIPTVM - VARIOLA VERA (LP/TESCO)

Post Scriptvm enters its third decade of marginal existence with a full-length album of surrealist industrial-eight inexplicably obscure analog sound sculptures, created using antiquated electronics and obsolescent techniques, juxtaposing dark ambient, power electronics and electroacoustic music. Titled after the outbreak of smallpox in the 1970s socialist Yugoslavia, unintentionally brought in by the pilgrims returning from a quest for divine illumination, 'Variola Vera' is the soundtrack to the somatic and the metaphysical epidemics steering the human enterprise towards its termination. Adrift in the sea of narcotic synth textures, discordant recitations, contaminated laboratory noises, misshapen fragments of charlatan sermons, cannibal ceremonies, voices of dying children and speeches of the moribund Eastern Blok dictators, 'Variola Vera' navigates its wayward course amidst the bitter nostalgia, ritualistic fervency, lethargic dejection, and frantic anguish.

SPK - ZAMIA LEHMANNI (BLACK) (LP/COLD SPRING)

'SONGS OF BYZANTINE FLOWERS' - Originally released by Side Effects in 1986, 'Zamia Lehmanni' was the third (and final) core SPK album and was Graeme Revell's first truly solo project. He was in a period of transition, somewhere between the industrial noise of the early years and his later award-winning soundtrack work. On the day before this was first released, this style of music, now ubiquitous (especially in soundtracks), did not exist. After 'Information Overload Unit' cleared a space for subsequent explorations, and the environmental percussion and anchored mutilated sound collages of 'Leichenschrei', the "body without organs" was fully eviscerated. Graeme felt 'industrial music' was becoming ossified and needed to be taken into radically new territories: 'post-industrial'. The track 'In Flagrante Delicto' (mastered as originally intended here) was later used by Revell for his work on the soundtrack for the 1989 film 'Dead Calm', which won him Best Original Score from the Australian Film Institute. Unavailable in any format since Mute's 1992 CD edition, Cold Spring now present this landmark album on vinyl for the first time since 1986. Approved by Graeme Revell, this release comes with new artwork by Abby Helasdottir and is remastered by Martin Bowes (The Cage).

CHRISTENSEN, MATT/CIRCLE BROS - SPLIT LP (LP/MORC)

For most people, Matt Christensen is probably best known as the founder/singer/guitarist of Zelienople, the band from Chicago that spoiled us slow, atmospheric vaguely rock-oriented music for well over a decade. But the past few years, Christensen has been working on an impressive oeuvre of solo material as well, brought to us on quality labels like Under The Spire, Miasmah, and his own bandcamp for a lot of download-only releases. Since Matt's characteristic voice and guitarplaying define the sound Zelienople for an important part, that band is of course a valid reference point for his solo work too. However, his solo output is -in general- more delicate, sparse, eerie and straightforward. Imagine Roy Montgomery joining 'Laughing Stock'-era Talk Talk, working on a Twin Peaks-soundtrack. Circle Bros is the project of Wim Lecluyse, the man behind Morc Records. The past few years Circle Bros shifted from a pure ambient-esque project to a more song-oriented unit, though most songs are built up around an improvised core. That is definitely the case for these recordings. At the end of a long improvisation session in Strasbourg, some parts grew together into a minimal guitar structure, resulting in these two pieces. This EP is a lot more stripped down than the last two Circle Bros albums, that both were released on Three:Four Records from Switzerland. Pressed on high-quality German clear vinyl, and all sleeves are screenprinted by hand on sturdy chipboard paper. Complete with download coupon, in an edition of just over 100 copies. Recommended if you like Zelienople, Talk Talk, Roy Montgomery, Hala Strana, Grouper, pop-oriented ambient.

NOETINGER, JEROME -& ANTHONY PATERAS- - A SUNSET FOR WALTER (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)

This interesting release combines Noetinger's tape manipulations with Patera's unique piano performance skills. 'A Sunset For Walter' is music without beginning, or end, or development, in which the lack of obvious structural divisions creates something like an endless present.

PANCRACE - THE FLUID HAMMER (2LP) (LP/PENULTIMATE PRESS)

The 2019 full-length by this experimental quartet from France, issued on DOUBLE-LP! The approach of Pancrace is based on the physicality of sound, a choice of specific tone qualities within a given spatial contextual awareness. Therefore the manufacturing and usage of the musical instrument are constantly reassessed. Consequently, playing with the mechanical aspect of the instruments is central to Pancrace's musical approach and narrative.

REICH, STEVE -& ENSEMBLE MODERN & SYNERGY VOCALS- - TOKYO OPERA CITY 21.5.2008 (LP/ALTERNATIVE FOX)

As noted on Alternative Fox's 'Live In Berkeley 1970' and 'Information Transmission, Modulation And Noise' releases, the New York-born composer and abstract keyboard artist Steve Reich was one of the most important pioneers of minimalist music. After studying with jazz pianist Hall Overton, Reich studied composition at the Julliard School of Music and later at Mills College, a hotbed of experimental music in Oakland, near San Francisco. He subsequently began experimenting with audio tape as a medium for recorded and performed music at the San Francisco Tape Music Center with important figures of early electronic music, including Morton Subotnick, Pauline Oliveros, Ramon Sender and Phil Lesh (the latter eventually a bassist in the Grateful Dead), and more importantly with Terry Riley, who joined Reich for the staging of 'In C' in 1964, based on constantly shifting, fragmented music patterns. Reich went on to compose a number of noteworthy film soundtracks and in 1967 collaborated with Oliveros and Richard Maxfield for the LP 'New Sounds In Electronic Music'. Phased musical and rhythmic patterns, sonic loops and electronic percussion were focal points from the mid-1960s. 'Music For 18 Musicians' was first released by jazz label ECM in 1978, based around pulsing patterns of tuned percussion created by several pianists, a vibraphonist and three marimba players, along with a clarinettist, a cellist and a violinist, as well as three vocalists, with players switching to different instruments and percussion as necessary; the masterful version presented at Tokyo's Opera City on 21 May 2008 features the choral group Synergy Vocals, close-microphone specialists founded by BBC Singers and London Choir alumnus Micaela Haslam, who first collaborated with Reich on his 2002 'Drumming' release.

UVB76 - SAN (LP/TEENAGE MENOPAUSE)

During their last Asian trip, this Russian-Britain duo accumulated influences and materials recorded and captured live on the spot, in order to draw this debut LP's mainlines. Expected for a few months, following a killer livesets series, this album shows up repetitive and massive rhythms. From Shanghai shabby clubs to the Itaweon preachers, it's a dark world to perfection, a fantasy imagery, which is created throughout this album with captivating narration, sliced by the Japanese opera singer Mari Suzuki's vocals and whispers. This release is an opportunity for the duo to recombine and offer a brand new live experience which made their reputation around. They now consider it as an audiovisual experience combining multiple electronic musics and digital arts.

METAL/STONER/HARDROCK

BLACK ROAD - (GREEN/BLACK) WITCH OF THE FUTURE (LP/DHU RECORDS)

Debut full length album by doom blues rock band Black Road. Based in Chicago, IL and started in 2015, Black Road is a DIY labor of love. Their musical influences are styles such as metal, rock, heavy blues, psychedelic rock, doom metal, jazz, funk, and folk. Limited to 100 copies on neon green/black vinyl.

DEATHTRIP - DEMON SOLAR TOTEM (BLACK) (LP/SVART)

Featuring the long-due return of Kvohst (Ex-Dodheimsgard/Code) on lyrics/vocals joining the cold, hypnotic riffs of Host (Thine), the primal drumming of Storm (ex-My Dying Bride, Blasphemer) and introducing the bass playing of Thomas Eriksen (Mork), The Deathtrip offer tickets to primeval possession and open portals to other dimensions. 'Demon Solar Totem' captures the spirit of ancient Darkthrone, Thorns and Beherit imbued with old-English occultism and the chanting of sacred sound formulas. Otherworldly black metal eeriness for a deep dive into spectral realms.

GRAVE PLEASURES - DOOMSDAY ROADBURN (2LP/BLACK) (LP/SVART)

Grave Pleasures' atomic performance on the mainstage of Roadburn Festival 2018. Features songs from Beastmilk's 'Climax' and their most successful album yet, 'Motherblood', including 2 unreleased tracks from the 'Motherblood' recording sessions.

RED WIDOWS - FUZZIFIXION (2LP) (LP/DHU RECORDS)

"Five epic tomes of monolithic groove dwell beneath the Jesus Christ pose that graces the artwork of The Red Widows' 'Fuzzifixion', an album that sees the band moving away from the slightly retro proto-metal/hard rock of their debut EP 'Rising' and embracing a heavier more doomic approach. Huge monotonic, almost monastic vocal tones weave majestically over and around thick syrupy low slow guitar refrains , growling bass lines and thundering percussion to create a sound that is menacingly dank, beautifully dark and hugely atmospheric." ~Frazer Jones. Limited to 150 copies on coke bottle with black and red splatter vinyl.

VESPERITH - VESPERITH (BLACK) (LP/SVART)

Sariina Tani channels the depths of the cosmos through the vessel of Vesperith. On her self-titled debut album, Tani meditates on the nature of shadows and emptiness. There's an essence of black metal in Vesperith's DNA, but it's much more an exploration of different dimensions of existence through art, bringing to mind more left-field and transcendental pioneers such as Wolves In The Throne Room and Darkspace. From the Swans-like, wide-screen crescendos to the Björk-like layers of voices that phase and warp into snaking synths, Tani's vision is refreshingly unique.

DRAKO GIGANT - DRAKO GIGANT (CD/SOUND EFFECT)

Drako Gigant is an experimental heavy musical constellation from Athens Greece, formed in 2017 under the concept of exploring heavy music combined with elements of sonic textures like early industrial, ambient, progressive rock, jazz and metal. Improvisation has been the backbone of creating the soundscapes laid down, but not without carefully considering the impact each result might have, first upon the creators and then upon the listener. The members, each coming from different genres and with different approach to how music works and is created, collide in a cauldron of ideas where explosive mixtures and intense dynamics meet and merge into strong bonds of a sound collage full of contradiction; a melting pot of thought provoking color and a deep travel into both the subconscious and dreamy states of mind. In the end this work will have to suffer or win the test of time, depending on the point of view. No boundaries, no walls, just pure music exploration!

NEBULA ORIONIS - ASHES (CD/BEVERINA/CASUS BELLI MUSICA)

'Ashes' completes the conceptual trilogy, which also includes the albums 'Starthrone' and 'To Keep The Flame Burning'. Real cinematic cosmic metal!

SAINT KARLOFF - INTERSTELLAR VOODOO (CD/OZIUM)

Saint Karloff are rare. The Sabbath influence in many ways is obvious but they don't sound like a straight up cover band. They have all their own feel and all their own music. The guitar work is amazing, the singing can be just as haunting as Ozzy-era Sabbath, the drums remind of Bill Ward in the best way and the bass rips.

ARCFIEND - MORTIFIED WITH HATE (7"/SUPREME ECHO)

In the mid 1980s the Canadian West Coast erupted with a new wave of speed/thrash metal and Victoria BC's most evil and extreme sounding group of the period was Arcfiend. Led by visionary guitar/vocalist Quin McCulloch first as a trio playing a mix of originals and covers and later evolving into a refined quartet, Arcfiend's unreleased recordings echoed with greatness... but nothing ever materialized for them beyond a few legendary shows. This carefully remastered mega-long EP collects 4 great songs, the speed metal trio similar to 'Pleasure To Kill' era Kreator on A and the technical death/thrash quartet reminiscent of Sepultura's 'Schizophrenia' on B. With a 12 page booklet featuring vintage artwork by Quin McCulloch and the late Chris Stanley, plus flyers, photographs and their story. Lo-fi Monophonic metal mayhem!! Demorgorgon!!! 500 copies.

JAZZ/AVANTGARDE

HARRIS, EDDIE - BOSSA NOVA (LP/ALTERNATIVE FOX)

Tenor saxophonist Eddie Harris is best-known for his composition 'Freedom Jazz Dance,' which Miles Davis brought to prominence in 1966, and for being a pioneer of the electric saxophone, yet his career is long, distinguished and varied. His debut album 'Exodus Into Jazz,' was named for his jazz adaptation of the theme from the movie 'Exodus', a chart-topping smash hit which became the first jazz song to win a gold disc. There were further jazz/film soundtrack explorations for Vee Jay and some concept albums too, with 'Bossa Nova' being the most noteworthy of the bunch. The Brazilian form had been gaining favour in the US thanks to 'Girl From Ipanema,' yet Harris' LP was not a tokenistic stab at faddism; instead, Harris uses the form as a launchpad for his own sterling solos, heard most enticingly on 'Cev Y Mar' and on the dreamy opener 'Mima,' inspired by his young daughter, Lolita Marie. The stellar backing is part of the picture too, the hand-picked musicians led by esteemed pianist Lalo Schifrin (then still making a name for himself), with Coltrane/Monk bassist Art Davis, Dizzy Gillespie drummer Chuck Lampkin and veteran guitarist Jimmy Raney allowing Harris all the space he needs, yet never playing mere filler behind him.
