PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

ELLISTER, JACK - (COL. 1) WHEN AN OLD CRICKETER LEAVES THE CREASE (7"/FRUITS DE MER)

Colour TBA. B/w 'Supernaut'. 'Supernaut' first appeared on the album 'Black Sabbath IV' and is based on one of the all-time great heavy rock riffs; 'When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease' is from Roy Harper's album, 'HQ' and is probably Roy's best-loved song. When it comes to two sides of a single, the phrase 'poles apart' never seemed more apt.

SOFT HEARTED SCIENTISTS - (COL. 1) PLEASE READ ME/MOTHS MISTOOK US FOR THE MOON (7"/FRUITS DE MER)

Colour TBA. Welcome back the Soft Hearted Scientists. Firstly with a new take on The Bee Gees' 'Please Read Me', a '60s pop-psych gem from the brothers Gibb with not the faintest whiff of cheese to it, given a magical makeover (it was recorded by The Bees Gees in 1967, appearing on their 'Bee Gees' 1st LP), and its paired with an all-new Scientists song, 'Moths Mistook Us For The Moon', that's just lovely and has that classic Soft Hearted Scientists sound; lets hope there's more to come.

MOLASSES - MOURNING DAZE/DROPS OF SUNLIGHT (12"/VAN RECORDS)

Born as a commissioned project from the Roadburn Music festival, Molasses brings back Farida Lemouchi and her old The Devils Blood bandmates to craft a very unique body of music that serves as a way to move on from the death of Selim Lemouchi and TDB days. Opening with the amp fuzziness of 'Mourning Haze', we are quickly transported to the days of psychedelic rock and its trippiness. Featuring a very accommodating pace and beautifully adorned with playful guitar leads and groovy synths, this opening track is pure magic and a very powerful way to open this release. The second and longer piece, 'Drops Of Sunlight', is a bit more experimental and introspective. With mysterious percussions and moody tempo changes, this piece feels bit like TDB in their 'The Thousandfold Epicentre' days, but with an extra layer of atmospheric elements. Farida's vocals are as enchanting as always, and perfectly provide that rigid darkness that music like this deserves. Comes on 180 gram opaque blue vinyl.

SENDELICA/SECRET KNOWLEDGE/THE ORB - WINDMILL (COL. 1) (12"/FRUITS DE MER)

Colour TBA. "'Windmill' marks a rare organic collision between three disparate outfits who turned unimaginable tragedy into a beautiful eulogy after an astonishing musical journey. On the night of Sunday June 3, 2018, writer Kris Needs lost his soul mate Helen Donlon after an illness she preferred not to know about. A respected literary agent and author, Helen and Kris had got together in 2013 and lived happily in a medieval cottage in Thaxted until events took their terrible turn. Kris was already on a mission to bring Sendelica into the mainstream music press and struck up a friendship with Pete Bingham that was already pointing to a cover version of Tim Buckley's 'Driftin''. On hearing the awful news about Helen, Pete went and quietly transformed the music into a poignant eulogy with this tragic new dimension to deal with, bringing in Sendelica bassist Glenda Pescado and sax titan Lee Relfe to enhance its gorgeous swirl. When Wonder, who had sung with Kris in Secret Knowledge 25 years earlier, heard the piece she called it 'Windmill', after the beautiful place where Helen had been laid to rest. "The windmill looks so big and strong and beautiful," she explains. "In a silent way it watches over her, like you did. And it never stops, always protecting." Wonder flew to the UK all the way from her home in Cleveland, Ohio to sing the song at the magical Mwnci Studios, near Cardigan, giving a heart-wrenching performance while facing Helen's photo (wearing her favourite purple velvet scarf) that reduced the room to tears. Helen's beloved dog Jack, now her earthly representative, was also there to make the picture compete. It didn't stop there either. Kris's old friend Alex Paterson had already said he wanted to do a remix. Working with Paul Conboy, his co-pilot in Orb spinoff Chocolate Hills, Alex produced two time-stopping remixes, using a recording of Helen's speech on her beloved Ibiza at the 2017 Breaking Convention conference; her last major appearance in public entrancing the crowd at the world's foremost psychedelic drugs conference. With Kris's photo of the Thaxted windmill on the cover, a rare heavenly synchronicity seemed to have been at work to produce this record. It's an unimaginably beautiful tribute to a very beautiful person, lost too soon but alive forever in the music. She would have loved it." ~Kris Needs

HUMINOITA - 369 (LP/LUOVA)

Finnish band Huminoita plays instrumental psychedelic rock with post rock and jazzy ingredients. '369', the band's third album, is composed of some kind of dreamy and slightly melancholic style, getting magnificently paired with space rock elements.

KOZMOTRON - QUAL (LP/BABYLON DOOM CULT)

Space and groove! The music on 'Qual' kisses stoner as well as '80s synth-kraut with a healthy dose of laidback psychedelics. Great guitar work and a psyched out theremin make for a laidback, groovy and sunny listen. Limited to 300 copies.

LONDON UNDERGROUND - SPACE EDITION (2LP) (LP/FRUITS DE MER)

With a history that traces back to the classic Italian band, Standarte, London Underground formed in December 1998 in Florence; they began by recreating the UK keyboard sounds of the likes of Brian Auger and Georgie Fame, moving onto a more progressive rock feel by the time they released their second album. After a period of inactivity, in 2008 Gianluca Gerlini reformed the band and recorded their third album 'Honey Drops'; London Underground today have a sound that is still inspired by the Hammond - now purely instrumental, they also draw influences from soundtracks of films from the '60s and '70s. 'Space Edition' is a 350-copy double LP reproducing their release 'Four' (the LP version) on purple vinyl plus an exclusive bonus LP, also on purple vinyl, of a selection of tracks taken from their three previous album releases.

LONE - 10 SONGS (LP/COLLECTABLE VINYL)

Third album by ex-Alquin members Ferdinand Bakker and Michel van Dijk. Well produced rock songs with a bluesy edge and a bit of a rough side. Ferdinand took care of the music writing, producing, arranging, guitars and violin. Michel took care of the lyrics and vocals.

MOTHERCROW - MAGARA (LP/NASONI)

The Mothercrow is a rock band influenced by '60s and '70s rock, based in Barcelona. The influences that define the sound of the group range from blues and psychedelia to early '70s heavy rock. This edition is limited to 300 copies on orange/white vinyl.

RED SUN ATACAMA - LICANCABUR (LP/MORE FUZZ)

Red Sun Atacama have forged a wall of fuzz via the spirit world of the high Chilean desert on this blistering output. 'Licancabur' blasts us with mountainous riffs, hallucinatory rhythms and enchanting volume.

SENDELICA - (COL. 1) CROMLECH CHRONICLES IV: THE DOOR INTO SUMMER (LP/FRUITS DE MER)

Colour TBA. Sendelica's annual pilgrimage to Mwnci Studio in 2018 resulted in a full on musical head collision of West Wales with the West coast of USA. Not so much down the rabbit hole but more of a trip through the door into summer of USA West Coast circa 66-70. A door of perception into the jamming delights of Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly and The Byrds at the heights of their improvisational prowess. Although these bands were quite adept at writing 'hit pop songs', it is their live alchemy that is drawn into the ever evolving brewing pot of Sendelica, disjunctive song structures, key and time changes, modal melodies, and drones that entwine and evolve into a magical musical journey. Tune in, turn on, turn down the lights, indulge in whatever tickles your fancy and let the odyssey of 'Cromlech IV' engulf your senses.

STONE FROM THE SKY - BREAK A LEG (CLEAR) (LP/MORE FUZZ)

Huge swathes of succulent stoner delight. Mammoth riffs and searing soundscapes. Colour Haze-ish jams that lift you up into the clouds.

TWINK WITH MOTHS & LOCUSTS AND HEAVY FRIENDS - THINK PINK IV: RETURN TO DEEP SPACE (LP/NOISEAGONYMAYHEM)

This gorgeous and adventurous LP is worthy of the legacy of Twink's legendary first solo album 'Think Pink' (1970). 'Think Pink IV' features Canadian krautrock royalty Moths & Locusts, with Sir Ian Blurton (Change of Heart, C'Mon, Public Animal, etc.), Barnaby Bennett, Jay Ferguson (Sloan), Gregory Macdonald (Sloan), Arlen Thompson (Wolf Parade), and Rob The Viking (Swollen Members). Mastering for the album was done by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission Of Burma) at Chicago Mastering Service. 'Think Pink IV' is a multi-generational collaboration that crosses time and space and brings the best of many worlds together with songs that range from the sprawling poetic strangeness of the opening track to hook-laden rockers and luscious ballads. The music and lyrics weave across the intersection of fantasy and reality from the perspective of a sage who has maintained an innocent sense of joy in the midst of crisis and chaos.

DYER, TOM - 1+1=? (CD/GREEN MONKEY)

And now for something different. In this latest rendition of the Tom Dyer Saga we step away from his usual pop/rock meanderings and head deep into left field for something strange and beautiful. '1+1=?' is an album of collaborations. Tom Dyer and mostly one other person, trying to make a sound that is interesting, pure, unfettered. The orchestrated opener 'Everything In The World Is Returning To A State Of Nature' started living in Dyer's head in 2004 while riding the commuter train to Boston and looking at rust. A 2017 call to Jim of Seattle finally brought it to vibrant life. The clangorous train-wreck song 'Death At Mounts Road' did not exist in any form until Tom and Amy Denio walked in the recording studio on a January 2018 Saturday morning. More than half of these songs do not have drums. Most are slow. Some songs were written prior to the collaboration, others like the psycho-matic 'Alaska (Put It In Your Head)' with The OF's John Carey are pure improvisation. Ornette Coleman's 'A Girl Named Rainbow' was purchased as sheet music in 1977 and was the final song recorded for the album, in 2019.

VESPERO - LIVENTURE #19 (CD/VMS)

Originally recorded in Astrakhan in June 2008 and including tracks from 'Rito' and 'Surpassing All Kings', Liventure #19' was released in 2008 on R.A.I.G. (digital/50 CD-r). This edition is released as mini-vinyl CD with new cover-art and includes 4 extra tracks not available anywhere else (multitrack from another concert (January 2009) which was surprisingly found in the Vespero archive). Alexander Kuzovlev has made a new mix and mastering specially for this release.

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

CAVALERO, PIKE - SPRING IS IN THE AIR/TICK-TACK BOOGIE (7"/SLEAZY)

Pike Cavalero returns to the roots music scene with a 7" single containing two of the songs to appear on his album 'Three Chords And The Truth'.

POP/ROCK/WAVE/NOISE

DISORDER OF DEADEIGHT - DO WOW THAT TILT! (7"/LUOVA)

'Do Wow That Tilt!' distills the esoteric dodgery of Disorder of Deadeight into cosmic power anthems to celebrate their first full decade. On side A of the two track EP the thirst for absolute freedom is exchanged for the joyful thelema of dance floor obligations. On side B, a cabbalical 'Deep Stuff' extract is prepared for further mental mountaineering.

BARNET - TANK PA DODEN (LP/SING A SONG FIGHTER)

Debut album from this unique trio from up north in Sweden. 10 tracks full of brilliant lyrics (in Swedish) and beautiful melodies. Barnet consists of Frida Johansson (plays live with Annika Norlin, Skert, 1900 and her own band Kraja), Linnea Nilsson (Kraja) and Love Kjellsson.

KLEMETTI, LITKU - TAIKA TAPAHTUU (LP/LUOVA)

2018 album. Litku Klemetti is a modern day example how you don't have to be signed to major record label and can still have major success. Good music has still it's value and Litku is about making exceptionally good music. Influences are taken from punk to progressive rock - and still her albums sound just Litku Klemetti and no one else.

MUMMIN KULLAT - KULTA (LP/LUOVA)

Mummin Kullat (Grandma's Darlings) is a three member pop/experimental folk group combining elements of folk, punk, and electronic music. These talented musicians use wide variety of instruments from toy-synths to cello and clarinet. Multi voiced vocal harmonies and witty, somewhat ingenious lyrics makes this group very special.

RAUDASKOSKI, TEEMU - VALOÄÄNI (LP/LUOVA)

Teemu Raudaskoski is a musician and artist living in Tampere, Finland. In his music organic and electronic sounds are fused into colorful soundscapes. Poetic and meditative lyrics floats above peacefully pulsating sounds. Charango's lightweight rhythm brings Teemu's music extra flavour of uniqueness.

RIIKKAHOI - SUPERRAKKAUTA (CD/LUOVA)

Riikkahoi was formed by singer-songwriter Riikka Aho and producer Antti Silvennoinen. Their debut album 'Superrakkautta' features experimental pop music sung in Finnish and the soundscape pays homage to '80s arcade classics while the lyrics touch subjects like love for animals, longing for nature as well as some darker themes.

PUNK/HARDCORE

AINTS! - THE AINTS! PLAY THE SAINTS (73-78) (LP/FATAL)

On the 40th anniversary of the release of The Saints' groundbreaking '(I'm) Stranded' album, guitarist, songwriter and founding member Ed Kuepper took to the stage performing the material he had written for that seminal band across their first three albums '(I'm) Stranded' (1977), 'Eternally Yours' (1978), and 'Prehistoric Sounds' (1978). Joined by like-minded souls, bassist Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys), drummer Paul Larson (The Celibate Rifles) plus keyboard player Alister Spence and a guest brass section, 'The Aints! Play The Saints' captures that energy of the original band delivering on a promise made 40 years ago and not heard since. Tracks include the incendiary '(I'm) Stranded', everybody's favourite 'Know Your Product', the blistering cover of Ike & Tina Turner's 'River Deep Mountain High', the epic 'Nights In Venice' plus 'This Perfect Day', 'Messin' With The Kid' and more. Released on the Fatal label, home to The Saints' original '(I'm) Stranded 7" in September 1976.

ENZYME - HOWLING MIND (LP/LA VIDA ES UN MUS)

After two 7"s on Crust War and Hardcore Victim and a Tour flexi in Japan on Vox Populi Records, Australian noise-punx Enzyme release their debut 10 track debut album. The band made up of ex members of Pisschrist, Kromosom and Unknown To God worship at the altar of 'Perdition' era Disorder, Chaos UK and Confuse. The bass drives the sound, the drums hectic with a lot of rolling tom tom work whilst the guitar has an immense tone of buzzing distortion and flanged psychedelics which sits somewhere between Gloom and Les Rallizes Denudes. Pummeling, assertive one-two hardcore with a visceral-physical without stupidity, clever but unpretentious venomous vocals. Recorded by Jason Fuller at Goatsound and mastered by Shige at Noise Room Howling Mind comes with sleeve and 16 page booked designed by Zach Malakonas.

MASA - VIIMESEN PÄÄLLE (LP/LUOVA)

2018 album. MÄSÄ is a Finnish punk band that can't be labeled as punk. They're just trying to be punk but end up playing some wicked tunes far away from the original idea. MÄSÄ makes songs about everything and anything. Potatoes, balls, clowns, cars, you name it.

INDUSTRIAL/EXPERIMENTAL/NOISE/NEOFOLK/GOTHIC

FATAMORGANA - TERRA ALTA (LP/LA VIDA ES UN MUS)

Formed in Barcelona in the summer of 2017, Fatamorgana sprang to life from the hearts and minds of Patrycja Anna Proniewska and Louis Harding. What began as a bedroom project of sorts (monophonic synthesisers, 4-track cassette recordings) the project soon blossomed into a functional live unit. Following a self-released cassette single at the start of the year, the pair spent the latter part of 2018 touring continental Europe and the west coast of North America. Recorded at Holyrook Estudio in Barcelona, 'Terra Alta' is the group's first full-length effort. The verse-chorus songwriting, the raw set-up of 2-synths-and-a-beat, and the primal rhythms nod to the duo's background in punk. But 'Terra Alta' has a pensive and mesmeric quality, provided in part by an outstanding production job (Studio AS One, Warsaw), but also by lyrics concerning themselves with themes of love, time travel, reflections on the future, the power of imagination and the mysteries of the natural world. If pressed for musical references the band could be pin-pointed somewhere between early Depeche Mode, Young Marble Giants, The Human League and a rounder around the edges Borghesia. Dreamlike synthesisers and echoed voices circle around danceable rhythms, inviting you to simultaneously contemplate and move your body. Allow yourself to be teleported from the majesty of Nature, to the glow of the discotheque.

COMMON EIDER, KING EIDER - EGREGORE (CD/COLD SPRING)

'Égrégore' is a ritual collaboration between B.S.s. (Common Eider, King Eider, Badgerlore/Six Organs Of Admittance collaborator) and Arexis (La Breiche, Coume Ouarnede, Stille Volk, Ihan)... and all of the spirits of the Pyrenees present during those Dark Moon Rituals, wishing to speak. Recorded live using electronics, rocks, antler, branches and voice. Four offerings given as gifts to the black air... the burnt soil... Gifts to the Spirits living in those forests and mountains of the Pyrenees. Dark moon folk magic... Housed in a beautiful matte-laminate gatefold ecopak, with visuals prepared by Kevin Gan Yuen (Sutekh Hexen).

VARIOUS - CHANGEZ RETRAVAILLE (3CD) (CD/RICERCA SONORA)

The New Blockaders' 'Changez Les Blockeurs' has attained a somewhat mythical/legendary status (Record Collector magazine included it in a list of the rarest, most collectable records ever) and 2017 was the 35th anniversary of its original release. In celebration of this, TNB invited some of their favourite artists to compose a reworking which have been issued collectively as 'Changez Retravaillé' ('Changez Reworked'). Includes tracks by Nurse With Wound, Philip Sanderson (Storm Bugs), Mark Durgan (Putrefier), Phil Julian (Cheapmachines), The Prestidigitators, Anomali, Spoils & Relics, Asmus Tietchens, Ralf Wehowsky (a.k.a. RLW), Das Synthetische Mischgewebe, Kommissar Hjuler, Rudolf Eb.er (Schimpfluch Gruppe), Frans de Waard (QST), Jerome Noetinger, Giancarlo/Massimo Toniutti, Alexei Borisov, TNM, Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, GX Jupitter-Larsen (The Haters), John Wiese, Idea Fire Company, Irr. App. (Ext.), Merzbow, K2, Toshiji Mikawa (Incapacitants), Kazumoto Endo, Nobuo Yamada, Daisuke Suzuki and Veltz.

MISSION OF CHRIST - SILENCE IN GRAVE (+FLEXI) (LP/SUPREME ECHO)

Mission Of Christ were the band that united the punks and metal-heads in Victoria, BC. Young skater kids riding into the collision between metal and punk - those wild days of early crossover. Albums such as COC's 'Animosity', early Metal Church, Accused's 'Martha Splatterhead', Sacrilege UK, Trouble, Venom and Slayer were all on heavy rotation. Each band sounded different and many were hard to classify. MOC received multiple record label offers (Metal Blade, Alchemy, Manic Ears), gigged often, released two demos and a split 7" - but failed to fulfill any album agreement. This deluxe 10 song LP comprises of the 7 song 'Silence In Grave' demo '87, three songs from 'Demo '89', plus a bonus 7" flexi EP called 'Realms Of Evil' featuring 4 songs from their '86 rehearsal demo. Remixed by Kurt Ballou and remastered by Brad Boatright and Audu Obaje for wider dynamics while maintaining vintage authenticity. MOC included a member of the Neos and also future Black Mountain leader Stephen McBean. Includes an amazingly generous 16 page booklet with interview, flyers, art, photographs and lyrics. Speedmetal/thrashcore legends!

SOUL/FUNK/LATIN/R&B/GOSPEL

VARIOUS - PACIFIC BREEZE (2LP) (LP/LIGHT IN THE ATTIC)

'Pacific Breeze' documents Japan's blast into the stratosphere. By the 1960s, the nation had achieved a postwar miracle, soaring to become the world's second largest economy. Thriving tech exports sent The Rising Sun over the moon. Its pocket cassette players, bleeping video games, and gleaming cars boomed worldwide, wooing pleasure points and pumping Japanese pockets full of yen. Japan's financial buoyancy also permeated its popular culture, birthing an audio analog called City Pop. This new sound arose in the mid '70s and ruled through the '80s, channeling the country's contemporary psyche. It was sophisticated music mirroring Japan's punch-drunk prosperity. City Pop epitomized the era, providing a soundtrack for emerging urbanites. An optimistic spirit buzzed through the music in neon-bathed, gauzy tableaus coated with groove-heavy strokes. 'Pacific Breeze' is an expertly compiled collection of choice cuts that range from silky smooth grooves to innovative techno pop bangers and everything in between. Long-revered by crate diggers and adventurous music heads, this music has never been released outside of Japan until now. Including key artists like Taeko Ohnuki and Minako Yoshida, as well as cult favorites Hitomi Tohyama and Hiroshi Sato, the long-awaited release also features newly commissioned cover painting by Tokyo-based artist Hiroshi Nagai, whose iconic images of resort living have graced the covers of many classic City Pop albums of the 1980s. Many of the key City Pop players evolved from the Japanese New Music scene of the early '70s, as heard on Light In The Attic's acclaimed 'Even A Tree Can Shed Tears: Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973', the first release of the ongoing Japan Archival Series. In fact, you could say City Pop set sail with a champagne smash from Happy End, the freakishly talented subversives who included amongst their ranks Haruomi Hosono and Shigeru Suzuki, both featured on this compilation. As Michael K. Bourdaghs noted in his book, 'Sayonara Amerika, Sayonara Nippon', this music was, "Deconstructing the line between imitation and authenticity." Some of the best City Pop teeters in this zone-easy listening with mutant exotica, tilted techno-pop, and steamy boogie bubbling beneath the gloss. TRACKS: 01. I Say Who - Tomoko Soryo 02. Kusuri Wo Takusan - Taeko Ohnuki 03. Midnight Driver - Minako Yoshida 04. Subterranean Futari Bocci - Nanako Sato 05. Sports Men - Haruomi Hosono 06. Coffee Rumba - Izumi Kobayashi 07. In My Jungle - F.O.E. 08. Sun Bathing - Akira Inoue, Hiroshi Sato, Masataka Matsutoya 09. Say Goodbye - Hiroshi Satoh 10. Drip Dry Eyes - Yukihiro Takahashi 11. Bamboo Vender - Masayoshi Takanaka 12. Lady Pink Panther - Shigeru Suzuki 13. Mykonos No Hanayome - Haruomi Hosono, Takahiko Ishikawa, Masataka Matsutoya 14. L.A. Night - Yasuko Agawa 15. Exotic Yokogao - Hitomi Tohyama 16. Machibouke - Tazumi Toyoshima

ELECTRONIC MUSIC/AMBIENT/D’N’B/TRIPHOP

SUMUPOSAUTTAJA - SP1ALBUM (LP/LUOLA)

First release on Luova's electronic sub-label Luola. Sumuposauttaja is the solo project of Sami Keinänen. The songs are built up piece by piece, consisting of '90s vintage Yamaha synth tones accompanied by Keinänen's shimmering voice. The resulting atmospheres vary from '80s pulsating neon lights to deep dives into the inner psychic space. The artist calls his personal and danceable style "heart beat" and Sumuposauttaja has quickly emerged from the bohemian blocks of Jyväskylä to the awareness of both Finnish and international underground scenes.
