PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

ATOMIC SIMAO - LEVITATION LOOM FOUR (LP/ADANSONIA)

On 'Levitation Loom Four' several genres collide. The five-piece band from Kiev (Ukraine) mainly plays instrumental music and combines psychedelic with space rock, acid jazz, funk and elements of Middle Eastern music. The child of the great wave of the '60s gets a big inspiration by electronic music of the '90s with a trippy sauce of acid-jazz. 'Levitation Loom Four' contains eight tracks with different rhythms and moods and includes support from guest musicians on a few tracks. The sound is powerful, impulsive and indescribably catchy. Get ready for the blast-off! Limited to 222 copies on black vinyl.

BOMBAY GROOVY - ODYSSEY (LP/COSMIC EYE)

Hailing from the celebrated new wave of Brazilian psych, Bombay Groovy are an instrumental group essentially consisting of the transcendental sound of the Indian sitar, the intense and versatile grunt of the Hammond organ and notably syncopated drum lines. A renewed alliance between East and West within a boundless rock concept can be defined as the quest of the three young musicians from Sao Paulo, who are heavily inspired by the sounds and general aesthetics of the early 1970s. The listener can expect influences of bands such as The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Ananda Shankar, Jeff Beck, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Herbie Hancock, Soft Machine, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, Graham Bond and even James Brown. However, the late '60s and early '70s references are adorned with an intensified Eastern twist. Vocal and verbal elements are replaced by a singular blend of sounds and mystic themes which gained the attention of the Brazilian music press and experimental retro rock music enthusiasts from all over the planet. 'Odyssey' is a compilation curated by the Greek label Cosmic Eye alongside the group, featuring tracks from all the band's releases, from the accentuated psych sound of the self-titled debut album (2014) to the progressive/jazz rock sonorities of its successor 'Dandy Do Dendê' (2016) and the art-funk double A single 'Saturnalia'/'Devi' (2019).

COMACOZER - MYDRIASIS (CLEAR/ORANGE) (LP/HEADSPIN)

Limited to 200 copies on clear/orange vinyl. Psychonauts Comacozer return with their signature acid rock with even more psychedelic madness. 'Mydriasis' is a brain-crushing full length by this Sydney-based heavy psychedelic space rock band. Three tracks of the most hypnotic, liquid, spaced out, mind bending jams around, taking you on a journey straight down the rabbit hole and will leave you floating through the other end of the universe. Comacozer are known for their meditative passages ending in an orgasm of sound. 'Mydriasis' is an adventurous, exciting and hypnotic release by one of the heaviest space rock/doom bands. Perfect for psychonauts who want to space-travel and ultimately get crushed by the weight of asteroid.

DELIRIO, FREDDY -& THE PHANTOMS- - THE CROSS (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

Freddy Delirio is the legendary keyboardist of Death SS, singer and founder of Italian band H.A.R.E.M. and producer since 30 years. 'The Cross' was sung, played and produced by Freddy as multi-instrumentalist with a few special guests such as Vincent Phibes (ex-Death SS), Francis Thorn (Fallen Fate, ex-Death SS), Lucky Balsamo (H.A.R.E.M.), Steve Sylvester (singer of Death SS), Francesco Noli (Alive with Paul Di'Anno & Others) and Chris Delirio. It's a mix of different music, where doom, prog and rock merge with typical cosmic music atmospheres.

EARTH TONGUE - FLOATING BEING (LP/STOLEN BODY)

Sometimes music is supposed to feel weird and indescribable. That's the music of Earth Tongue is about. At times, their songs are shrill and disorientating, other times their reverbwashed textures and instantly- familiar hooks can wrap you in a warm, loving embrace. The one consistent thread through their music, however, is the thick and all encompassing fuzz. The album contains songs that capture the raw, primitive energy from their live performance. Earth Tongue embrace the imperfections in their playing and recording - drawing influences from early '70s psych and prog rock. The last thing they wanted was to create an over-produced record. The result is a punchy, raw and fuzzy journey into psych-rock with songs that weave between melodic and jarring. Unexpected twists and turns leave the listener in a disorientated yet satisfying haze.

IVAN THE TOLERABLE & HIS ELASTIC BAND - RATIONS (LP/STOLEN BODY)

'Rations' is Oli Heffernan's twentieth album in seven years as Ivan The Tolerable, now the main vehicle for his hallucinatory basement outpourings since the dissolution of the beloved Year Of Birds. Here he eschews his old group's acerbic brevity for a sprawling double slab of time-dilating chug and wail. Joined by Tom Carter (Charalambides) on cosmic lead, Kevin Nickles (Ecstatic Vision/Writhing Squares) on flute and saxophone and members of King Champion Sounds (with whom Heffernan plays bass and organ), the band ride the taut.

L'ECLAIR - SAUROPODA (LP/BONGO JOE)

What can one expect of an album called 'Sauropoda'? Think of it as a 2am Youtube find. Or that weird looking Soviet prog funk LP reissue you never dared to buy. It actually sounds more like a L'Eclair show. Most of the album comes from deep jams the band road-tested following the recording of 'Polymood'. Some of the tracks faithfully capture the live sound of the band while the rest includes carefully crafted dance floor grooves, last minute studio fantasies and genuine late night jams. L'Eclair is about all those things. And things never sound the same twice. 'Sauropoda' was recorded in the mountains with the band's live engineer Benoit "Gérard" Erard. In case anyone ever wonders about the way L'Eclair sounded in 2018, 'Sauropoda' would be the correct answer. Proto-groove was born. Now, where shall we head to, baba?

LONE STAR - SINGLES 1972-1977 (LP/LS RECORDS)

A collection of the best singles this Spanish-Catalan band released between 1972 and 1977, that shows their whole stylistic range. An essential chapter in Spanish rock music. Limited to 300 copies on blue vinyl.

METAPHYSICAL ANIMATION - METAPHYSICAL ANIMATION (2LP) (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

Reissue of ultra obscure Floridan psych/prog album from 1973. Less than 50 copies were pressed at the time, housed in a plain white demo sleeve with the band name hand-written in pen on the cover. Classic '70s prog, with significant elements of fusion and psychedelic rock. Sometimes it sounds like a jazzier, jammer take on 'Close To The Edge'. Other times it sounds like Rick Wakeman briefly joined Pink Floyd during the 'Wish You Were Here' sessions. And then there are the tracks that sound like a looser, more electrified Graham Bond Organization.

SATURNALIA - MAGICAL LOVE (PD) (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

Produced by Keith Relf (Yardbirds, Renaissance, Steamhammer), Saturnalia made their 1973 debut with a beautiful 3D picture disc, which has since become a collector's item among fans of the genre. For this release Black Widow Records attempted to remain as faithful as possible to the original packaging (picture disc format with booklet, ticket and above all the 3D labels and a second 24 pages booklet) and the result is this fantastic reissue. Featuring the beautiful Aletta and Adrian Hawking on vocals and Rod Roach on guitar. Hawking and Roach were previously together in Horse. A '70s British psych prog underground gem!

TIMOTHY EERIE - RITUAL (LP/NOMAD EEL)

Psych pop with deep grooves and endless ego deaths! Timothy Eerie blossom slowly and effortlessly into your room with light-handed effects, bright ethereal hypnotic fuzzed guitars laced by a ever-present yet understated drumming, all allowing for Casey Lerman's sonically gentle captivating vocals to roam around in the air like animated fireflies on a warm summer night. Timothy Eerie (a spacious nod to Timothy Leary) come across as deceptively listenable, delightfully welcoming, elementally nostalgic and charming, like an old key that unlocks new doors, behind which cellophane flowers, tangerine trees and marmalade skies actually do exist. The enticing conceptual popish dreamscape Timothy Eerie build presents itself as being smoothly offhanded, filled with organic rhythmic exuberances and dreamlike wonder, effortlessly managing to explore a visionary path of subtle depth and emotional security. Wrapped in a warm blanket, 'Ritual' offers up lush soft pillowed couch-bound euphoria... as you've not yet experience before. Limited to 150 copies of yellow and black smoke colour vinyl.

TRAPPIST AFTERLAND - INSECTS IN AMBER (LP/SUGARBUSH)

8th album by Trappist Afterland, limited to 300 copies. Trappist Afterland was formed in 2010 and is the psychedelic folk project fueled by the religious ruminations of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Cole (oud, guitar, lute, tanpura, bodhran, vocals). The band also features Phil Coyle (tabla, frame drum, vocals), Nicholas Albanis (bell citern, hammered dulcimer, bowed psaltery) and Lachie Henderson (acoustic guitar).

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

BAIN DIDONC - LE BAIN DIDONC (7"/CAMELEON)

Reissue of this very rare French sixties beat/garage EP, originally released in 1966. Limited to 500 copies. Comes in laminated cover and with remastered sound. SIDE 1: 1. Marcelle 2. Tare... Zon SIDE 2: 1. 4 Cheveux Dans Le vent 2. Achetez Notre Disque

TODD, PAT -& THE RANKOUTSIDERS- - BANG BANG & THEN YOU'RE DEAD/YOU MADE A HIT (7"/BELUGA)

2019 single by this American garage rock'n'roll band from Los Angeles, California, founded by Pat Todd after The Lazy Cowgirls broke up. Co-release between Beluga Music, Ghost Highway Recordings and KOTJ Records.

VOO-DOOMS - (BLACK) AND IT GOES LIKE THIS... (7"/SPINOUT NUGGETS)

Once again, Sgt. Von Doom (vocals and rhythm ghoultar), C.K. Doomsmith (axe-murdering and back-breaking vocals), Doctor Voo (four and six-string bottom-gutters) and The Prince Of Doom (jungle drums, screams and tambourine) have plumbed the depths and hit pay-dirt with another clutch of blood-curdling tunes designed to send teenageres everywhere crazy! Limited to 300 copies on black vinyl, but only few available! SIDE 1: 1. Voo-Doom Twist 2. Goin' Away Baby SIDE 2: 1. Diggin' My Own Grave 2. Another Teenage Dance Craze

KAMERAS - KAMERAS (LP/CAMELEON)

13 previously unreleased studio and demo tracks from 1979 by this London-based punk/rock/post-punk band. Limited to 300 copies.

PINHEADS - IS THIS REAL (LP/STOLEN BODY)

The Pinheads formed out of what is known as the Leisure Coast, spread out among the northern suburbs of the Illawarra and Wollongong region of Australia. The Pinheads reside within a stylistic purgatory - too weird for punk shows, too free-form for garage rock, too genre-defiant for rock 'n' roll. The sound of The Pinheads is a mosaic of their collective tastes, built on the foundations of their heroes, a work of art in its own right. That's not about to change with the release of their second album, 'Is This Real'. One may find themselves musing in the LP's opening minutes. 'Is This Real' marks a reunion of sorts for the band, after several members took a short sabbatical from The Pinheads, to go explore other musical projects - among them Tropical Strength, Luke Spook and Shining Bird.

POP/ROCK/WAVE/NOISE

TREASURES OF MEXICO - THE LAST THING (7"/SPINOUT NUGGETS)

B/w 'Heart Pounding' and 'Lost In This World'. The Treasures Of Mexico feature Mark Matthews and Bob Collins from the legendary UK band The Dentists. Hand-numbered edition of 300 copies.

CLEVER SQUARE - CLEVER SQUARE (LP/BRONSON RECORDINGS)

Clever Square's style is closely linked to American indie rock, a timeless genre marked by a slacker aesthetic which exploded at the turn of the '80s/'90s. Guitarist/singer Giacomo D'Attore manages to make it shine in his own way. "It's the kind of music I grew up with and I identify with. For me, it means the possibility of expressing oneself for what one really is. In 2019, I think its still important just to play, have something to say and say it in a direct and spontaneous way. In reality, it's not simple or obvious but it's the lesson I learned and I try to put into practice". Clever Square's tracklist includes ten songs, each of them autonomous but functional to the essential overall picture, that pay tribute to a legendary generation of outsiders like Neutral Milk Hotel, Guided By Voices, Dinosaur Jr., Lemonheads, Pavement and Sebadoh, in tune with present-day names such as Courtney Barnett, Car Seat Headrest or Kurt Vile.

INDUSTRIAL/EXPERIMENTAL/NOISE/NEOFOLK/GOTHIC

MUSSIDA, SANDRO - EEEOOOSSS (LP/GRANDANGOLO)

'EEEOOOSSS' contains the recording of an the encounter between three instruments (bass clarinet, electric guitar played with e-bow, and cello), each one tuned according to a different tuning system. This meeting was conceived and designed over a period of years, but only took place once, in the Church of S. Giusto, Volterra, Italy, during the night of the 12th of August, 2018. The performing musicians were Alessandra Novaga, Edgardo Barlassina and Sandro Mussida.

POTTER, COLIN - HERE (2LP) (LP/POLYTECHNIC YOUTH)

The killer 1981 cassette only release 'Here' by Colin Potter, is expanded to a double LP with all sorts of additional bonus material released for a first time here. Ace new sleeve art is from Jonathan Coleclough who was behind the artistic reins of the initial Mirage cassette release 38 years ago. You probably know by now that Colin is the head behind respected electronic label ICR, and is a longterm member of NWW and has played with the likes of Current 93 and Organum etc; and that his revered back catalogue of hugely influential cassette only, DIY electronic releases is slowly being transferred to vinyl via the likes of (PY sister label) Deep Distance and Dark Entries? 'Here' continues the reissue programme, and as he pieced together the out-takes and demos to form this double LP, Colin says "'Here' marked a move away from some of the more song-orientated music I had been making up to then, towards purely instrumental tracks. On the (new) sleeve I describe it as 'rural electronic music' which was to some extent a reflection of my life in a small village in North Yorkshire. Listening back to it now, I can't figure out how I managed to do it with just a 4 track recorder...." Pressing of 300 so move swiftly...

PRZEPYCH - REGRESARABAS (LP/RED WIG)

Przepych is a Wroclaw, Poland based duo consisting of members of Kurws, Ukryte Zalety Systemu (UZS), Pustostany and Norymberga. The band is a member of local DIY underground music scene CRK Salka oriented around CRK social-cultural center which is their daily rehearsal room. Although the duo uses typical rock instruments and sound, they avoid referring to typical rock or post-rock structures; instead, guitars and drums as tools of composition owe a lot to the syncretic Rock In Opposition scene, funk-hitting no wave, and post-punk that wished to turn its own limitations into unlimited space. Przepych is a response to these endeavors. The LP is published cooperatively by Red Wig, Déguelite, La Loutre Par Les Cornes and the band.

SINIGAGLIA, RICCARDO - AMBIENT MUSIC (BLACK) (LP/SOAVE)

Futuro Antico, the mesmerizing collaboration of Riccardo Sinigaglia with Walter Maioli and Gabin Dabirè evoked in its name the uncanniness of simultaneously witnessing past and future. 'Ambient Music', Riccardo Sinigaglia's first solo work -recorded in Dec. 1984 and originally out on cassette from ADN Tapes in 1985- ultimately delivers on that idea, embodying different irreconcilable time frames not just in name.

SOURCE SIGNALS - SOURCE SIGNALS (LP/P.P.O.P.)

'Source Signals' contains previously unreleased guitar songs and experiments, recorded by Kees Tazelaar (from Dutch punkband The Brommers) between 1981 and 1985, which were compiled, edited and provided with some overdubs in 2019. While The Brommers (1978-1981) were developing their skills as a live band and gained recording experience under more or less professional circumstances, their guitarist also discovered the possibilities of the so-called Sound-On-Sound technique on an Akai tape recorder for the living room: it triggered a style of music making that relies heavily on transformed guitar sounds, multi-layered arrangements and tape manipulations, which in subsequent years would lead to completely abstract compositions in the electroacoustic music domain (see www.keestazelaar.com). Limited edition of 300 numbered copies on blue-transparent vinyl, with graphic design by Jan Heijnen.

AELDABORN - URFINSTERNIS (CD/LICHTERKLANG)

Aeldaborn's album 'Urfinsternis' deals with the religious motives of the Swedish island Gotland and its ancient stones ('Reiter Und Schlangen'), lesser known nordic myths ('The Ride Of Hyrrokinn') as well as songs standing in the tradition of Luciferian gnosticism referring to Albin Grau, Gregor A. Gregorius and Aleister Crowley ('The Wind Beyond' and 'The Law Of Silence'). The Kalevala as well as Karelian witchcraft are covered as well just like the mythical topic of the mountain in the context of a spiritual observation ('Entwölktes Gebirge'). By all means the Bronze Age is the peak of religious images, the first light from the original darkness ('Urfinsternis'). Musicalwise 'Urfinsternis' can be considered as their most accessible album, while a new female voice adds a new dimension to the multilayered compositions.

WOLFF, CHRISTIAN -PERFORMED BY PHILIP THOMAS- - PRELUDES, VARIATIONS, STUDIES AND... (2CD) (CD/SUB ROSA)

...INCIDENTAL MUSIC' - These two discs reveal Wolff as a composer fully exploring, in different ways, the continuum between music which is highly fragmented, embracing extended silences (composed or indeterminate), to that which is more progressive and seemingly driven, albeit taking in disarming and unconventional routes. As a body of repertoire, these works are remarkable for their freshness of musical thought and energy (John Cage considered Wolff to be the most 'musical' of the experimental composers).

METAL/STONER/HARDROCK

BEATEN BY HIPPIES - BEATEN BY HIPPIES (LP/POLDERRECORDS)

This Belgian four-piece band have been inspired by the first stoner wave. Together they have been working on brewing their own sound: elements from '60s/'70s hardrock and a pinch of '80s glam. Their mature productions are presented on this debut album by Beaten By Hippies.

JAZZ/AVANTGARDE

GRENIER, ALEX - 7TET (LP/MAAULA)

After playing all over with his trio in Europe, and also in the USA, Canada and Japan, Alex released four albums exploring '60s soul/jazz to electro jazz from the late '90s. The guitarist from Angers, France, has decided to explore new sound territories - in septet! Latin jazz cut for dancefloor and cosmic funk to bluesy rides.

REGGAE/DUB/SKA/ROCKSTEADY

MUSICAL BREED - SAVE THE LITTLE CHILDREN (LP/DIG THIS WAY)

Reissue of a deep Nigerian late '80s digi-roots reggae LP. The album was originally released in Nigeria by Tabansi Records and recorded at Afrodisia/Decca studio in Lagos. The LP never really saw a commercial issue and was probably pressed in very few promotional copies for Radios and DJs making the original nearly impossible to be found nowadays. Musically it comes with some dope, slow and one-a-way digital roots riddims filled with mad synths, deep conscious lyrics and a deep bassline. It's quite unique as the two main tracks come with a raw dub which is very hard to be found on any other African reggae albums. The last track called 'If I'm To Rule The World' is a very interesting blend of reggae and boogie. The cover has been fully restored and the audio was remastered. Includes an insert with lyrics, original pictures from back in the days (and a few new ones), a newspaper article from 1990 and an extensive interview by lead singer Sharon Escco Wilson.

SOUL/FUNK/LATIN/R&B/GOSPEL

LOIRE VALLEY CALYPSOS - VS. THE GREAT PINK FLAMINGO (LP/MAAULA)

Conceived as an authentic B-movie of spies fighting super villains, 'The Loire Valley Calypsos Vs The Great Pink Flamingo' travels from island to island, from one ocean to another, and even takes some astonishing cosmic detours. We find this spirit in the way the The Loire Valley Calypsos perform this popular Caribbean calypso music from the 1950s/60s, adding sevral influences of world music. This LP is vintage, dancing, sunny, festive and funny. A tropicadelic music who sway and bend to the trance. Featuring guests: Reunion Island musician René Lacaille on the accordion, the female vocalist from Lord Rectangle, Jimmy Virani on the theremin and Marc Barotte on percussions.

NEW SWING SEXTET - LO QUE TE TRAIGO (LP/ABANICO)

The 2019 album from the Grammy-nominated New Swing Sextet featuring 12 hot salsa tracks! Includes liner notes, lyrics, an interview, an exclusive photo and credits. Amazing and diverse tunes that range in style from hard salsa to Latin jazz, boogaloo and cha-cha-cha to salsa romantica and descarga. While the basic formula is classic, the band brings a fresh and honest approach to the album that feels both young and vivacious, so the combination of years of experience and honing their chops actually ironically helps them sound more assured, youthful and hip than many new salsa bands around today!

MARCHETTI, GIANNI - IL MAGNIFICO TONY CARRERA O.S.T. (LP/TRANSVERSALES DISQUES)

First ever reissue on vinyl of this ultra-rare Italian soundtrack originaly released in 1969 on the cult CAM label. The score includes lots of different atmospheres and arrangements: from fuzzy dark psychedelic themes with harpsichord and haunted choirs to angelic and dreamy vocal themes. Compared to the original CAM LP, this reissue dropped some carnivalesque tracks in order to include some unreleased variations of the themes, plus all the suspense cues that were largely removed from the original tracklisting. Limited edition remastered from the original master tapes.

ONETTI, LUCIANO - ABRAKADABRA O.S.T. (LP/BLACK WIDOW)

The Onetti Brothers, Luciano and Nicolas, return for a final stab at the genre which introduced us to the Argentina based filmmakers five years ago. What started with the predominantly first person perspective of 'Sonno Profondo' in 2013 opened up a bit more with 2015's 'Francesca'. Now the brothers have completed their most realized giallo film of the three, 'Abrakadabra', marking real progression from that first film five years ago presenting the story of a man haunted by his past, more than he knows, in a race against time to catch a killer. (screenanarchy.com). The music is again incredible and inspired. Luciano Onetti composed and played all songs of the soundtrack with the '70s Italian giallo feeling and influences of masters Morricone, Stelvio Cipriani, Goblin, Fabio Frizzi and many incursions to funky rock, jazz, progressive arrangements and thrilling and intense atmospheres.

VARIOUS: WORLD, CLASSICAL, SPOKEN WORDS ETC

PETER CAT RECORDING CO. - BISMILLAH (LP/PANACHE)

If discovering a favourite band through a 'Best Of' feels a curious premise, then 'Bismillah' does more than hint towards the promise of Peter Cat Recording Co's future. Blending gypsy jazz, psychedelic cabaret, space disco, bossa supernova, Bollywood and uneasy listening with kaleidoscopic ease. Always different, paradoxical, unpredictable yet somehow familiar. The album opens to the strains of bird chatter, the whisper of a city's soundscape and the first few notes from an instrument which seem to be calling us to the departure lounge, a foreshadow of the flight 'Bismillah' launches its listener on to.
