PSYCHEDELIC/PROGRESSIVE/FOLK

CURTISS MALDOON - CURTISS MALDOON (LP/TRADING PLACES)

After playing in Bodcast with future Yes guitarist Steve Howe, Dave Curtiss and Clive Maldoon formed blues-rock duo Curtiss Maldoon, and released their self-titled debut on Deep Purple's label Purple Records in 1971. For the LP, the pair was backed by top session players including Mighty Baby's drummer Roger Powell, as well as Howe on the final track; contemplative folk-rock track 'Sepheryn' would later be immortalized in altered form by Madonna as techno classic 'Ray Of Light,' but is included here in all its original glory, along with four rare bonus tracks from the same sessions, left off the original release, making this expanded reissue the best way to experience the band at their finest.

DAVISON, BRIAN -'S EVERY WHICH WAY- - BRIAN DAVISON'S EVERY WHICH WAY (UK) (LP/TRADING PLACES)

Esteemed drummer Brian Davison was a key part of The Nice during the mid-60s, and when Keith Emerson quit to form ELP, Davison put together Every Which Way with former Skip Bifferty frontman Graham Bell, bassist Alan Cartwright, guitarist John Hedley and saxophonist Geoffrey Peach. Self-titled debut LP, released by Charisma in 1970, was an intense slice of prog with excellent sax solos, emotive vocals, tasteful bass, soaring guitar and forceful drumming, but Cartwright soon joined Procol Harum and Davison drifted into Refugee, making this album the group's sole release. Well worth exploring, it's another highly sought-after album for fans of well-produced prog.

EARTHFORCE - EARTHFORCE (LP/LION PRODUCTIONS)

The first ever vinyl issue of these recordings. Comes with a 12-page full color booklet with band info, photos, and lyrics Newly remastered by Earthforce band leader Steve Bayfield. We doubt whether the name Earthforce will be familiar to many, mainly due to the fact that they merely existed for a couple of years, with only a 60x copy private press cassette release in 1977 to their name during their time together. Earthforce were a musical collective out of step with the punk age, children of the UK free festival scene - events like the Psilocybin Festival - enjoying a connection with the earth, singing meditative songs with lyrics about the "moontide of the pagan heart" and the "wind blowing seaward." The end result is a fantastic album, loosely charting the course of a day, from dawn to moonrise. The diverse instrumentation (sitar, 12-string guitar, flageolet, electric guitars, fretless bass, harmonium, doogi, synthesizer, acoustic guitar, percussion, tabla, cymbals, etc.) are used in ways which bring unexpected wonders to the Earthforce sound. And if the late date of Earthforce's existence is at all worrying to you, as you probably remember, Caedmon's legendary debut album, also released as a private pressing - and one of the most sought-after progressive folk-rock albums from the UK - came out in 1978. Had Earthforce opted for vinyl instead of cassette for their release, we have little doubt that an Earthforce LP would be at least as sought after as the Caedmon LP - and so, with that idea in mind, Lion Productions have made an Earthforce LP. Praise for the long out-of-print CD reissue of Earthforce: "Ultra rare mid-'70s UK acid folk rock recordings. Features sitar, moog, acoustic and electric guitars, assorted percussion instruments to create a Popul Vuh like soundscape. If you can imagine the perfect blend of Eastern trance/psych and English hippy acid folk rock, this would be it. Very cool and freaky." "Earthforce were an offshoot of Ebling Mis and Oa Band formed by Steve Bayfield. Hailing from the UK, the band was influenced by a wide variety of music including English folk and acid rock. This release is culled from sessions that have never been released before, and they sound like a cross between Popul Vuh and Gong. Very tasty, very spacey and mystical vibe throughout."

FAT MATTRESS - FAT MATTRESS (LP/TRADING PLACES)

As bassist in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Noel Redding made an indelible impression, but guitar was his chief instrument since the age of 17, when he backed Neil Landon in The Burnettes, and when Landon reconnected with Redding after a spell with Engelbert Humperdinck, Fat Mattress was born with Humperdinck's drummer, Eric Dillon, and bassist/keyboardist Jim Leverton. This indispensable debut was the only LP to feature Redding, the sound a pleasantly-melodic shade of psychedelic folk rock, with a few rough edges. Reproducing the original fold-out poster cover, this edition has four bonus tracks from the same sessions, two of which were issued on a 1969 single, the other two left in the can. Limited 180 gram vinyl reissue in poster sleeve, faithfully reproducing the original version.

HOLY MONITOR - SOUTHERN LIGHTS (LP/BLACKSPIN/PRIMITIVE MUSIC)

Holy Monitor is a music collective blending space rock with repeatable psyched riffs and beats and ambient sensibility. "...tonal presence and rhythmic motion seeking not to crush or overwhelm, but more to accompany the listener on an outward-directed journey... eight songs of engaging, calmer-than-you-are heavy psychedelic warmth as the Athenian five-piece engage touches of proggy keys and rhythms amid a bed of languid fuzz..." Limited to 300 copies on high quality red/white swirl vinyl.

JESS & THE ANCIENT ONES - VERTIGO (BLACK) (LP/SVART)

Their brand of heavy guitar and organ-led swagger has progressed from the twin guitar metal blast of yesteryear to Jess and The Ancient Ones' very own take on soulful late sixties garage psychedelia. What began on the previous record, 'The Horse & Other Weird Tales' is taken further and deeper, towards a conclusion on 'Vertigo'. Wrapped in a crude tornado-adorned old school sleeve, the album's eight tracks bubble in a boiling cauldron of vintage pop culture influence and occult-tinged paranoia. Ranging from the softly fiery opening track 'Burning Of The Velvet Fires' to the almost heavy metal-ish nihilistic banger 'Born To Kill', 'Vertigo' is a spiraling journey of heavy Finnish psych rock at its finest.

KENNLISCH - KENNLISCH (LP/WAH WAH)

Originally released in 1976, now reissued on vinyl officially for the first time (in a run of 500 copies with a 4-page colour booket), this instrumental album by brothers Philippe and Jean-Francois Macherey is one of the most beautiful works to emerge from the French alternative music scene of the era. Musically it's a mixture of experimental/avant-garde acid/psych-folk and kosmische influences, performed with acoustic guitar parts harmonised with the most elegant Moog Satellite lines. This is the perfect record for your mind to float away on a peaceful Sunday morning under a clear blue sky!

NOSFERATU (GERMANY) - NOSFERATU (BLACK) (LP/LONGHAIR)

Originally released in 1970, Nosferatu's sole album is a true highlight of the early Krautrock-era. The six musicians (a.o. Christan Felke, sax and flute, later with Epsilon and organ-player Reinhard Grohe, later with Papa Zoot Band) played a raw, rough and heavy progressive style. Some regard it as one of the best heavy progressive records made in Germany. With great guitar and organ playing and highly talented flute and sax playing, the album is an outstanding release of the first wave of the German progressive rock. Sadly Nosferatu never recorded a second album. This reissue is not only an exact reproduction of the original album, but also contains a fully detailed insert with band story by singer Mick Thierfelder and a lot of still unseen photos. The recordings are remastered from the original master tape. Don't miss this limited edition.

SAGE AND SEER - SAGE AND SEER (LP/WAH WAH)

The self-titled album by the Denver-based duo Sage And Seer is now available on vinyl again for the first time since its orginal release in 1969! This wonderfully produced, yet rather obscure popsike gem sounds like a tasteful mixture of a.o. Simon & Garfunkel, soft pop legends The Free Design and baroque pop maestros The Left Banke! This edition (500 copies) comes with remastered audio, a thick cardboard sleeve, a gatefold insert, a lyrics insert and two bonus tracks taken from the duo's first single, which dates back to 1968.

SPHINCTER ENSEMBLE - HARRODIAN EVENT #1 (LP/TRADING PLACES)

The incredible sonic beauty of the Sphincter Ensemble results from musical spontaneity, a random jam session undertaken by a loose group of friends in the unlikely setting of the Harrodian Club in Barnes, west London, on 2 January 1972. The sumptuous free jazz/prog rock/avant-classical fusion features top session players at their peak, with Trevor Morais' funky drumming loosely tied to Quatermass bassist John Gustafson's rough melodic lines, embellished by Anne Odell's far-out synths, Martyn Ford's French horn and arrangements by Elton John's orchestrator Paul Buckmaster. This hugely enjoyable rarity is appearing on vinyl here for the very first time - a thing of wonder for all discerning prog fans.

SPIDERWORKS - SHIVER (2LP) (LP/NOMAD EEL)

This is psychedic stoner rock at its best. Lots of trippy effects like echo on the drums and reversed stuff. Originally released on CD only in 1992. Limited to 200 copies on translucent green vinyl.

STONUS - SEANCE (LP/ELECTRIC VALLEY)

'Séance' is the third EP of the Cypriot heavy rock band Stonus, a fully analogue 18:24 minute EP recorded live at Hot Soap Studios in Larnaca, Cyprus under the supervision of Andreas Mattheou and mastered by George Leodis. The delicate artwork, perfectly translating the visualisation of 'Séance' was crafted by Petros Voulgaris. In this trip, Stonus take a more experimental approach seeking into tradition, experiencing folk sounds, gypsy sceneries and expose themselves into the darkest side of nature. In some parts they are raw and heavy, while in others lost in a psychedelic trance, filled with roaring basslines, heavy riffs and dreamy melodies, always bloodthirsty for revolution and change. Whether you're bound by the evil chains of pretentious love, feeling disconnected from your dreams or being chained to the system, 'Séance' is a kind reminder that you are not alone... This one-sided record comes with a digital print on the B-side.

TUCKY BUZZARD - BUZZARD (LP/TRADING PLACES)

The roots of hard rock act Tucky Buzzard lie in psychedelic group The End, who supported The Rolling Stones on an early tour, leading Bill Wyman to produce their sole LP. The band then morphed into Tucky Buzzard, now with scorching lead guitar licks and Hammond organ parts to the fore, and Wyman still on board as producer and manager. For their final album, 'Buzzard,' released on Deep Purple's Purple imprint in 1973, there is a mix of hard-edged blues rock, with a fine interpretation of perennial classic 'Who Do You Love,' and wistful originals like 'Hanging On In There.' As ever, Wyman's sterling production and presence on acoustic and electric piano makes this one a must for all Stones fans.

VARIOUS - ST. ALBERT'S DREAM, VOL. 2 (LP/LYSERGIC SOUND DISTRIBUTORS)

'LUCID ELECTRIC PROPHET' - A follow up to the highly rated 'St. Albert's Dream' compilation from 2013. Includes booklet with bios and rare pictures of the bands. Limited vinyl pressing of 600 copies. Heavy "dosed" psychedelia where The Prophet takes you to the depths of the unknown Acid Land. Twelve tracks from some of the deepest underground acts in North America, from the years 1968-1972. Plenty of raw fuzz, swirling effects, deep lyrics, heavy beats, and cool hooks from these mostly unknown heroes of this long past era of musical creativity. Sourced from micro-pressed 45's and unreleased master tapes, these songs have never been compiled on vinyl before. Hear wizardry from such acts as Osceola, Hindenburg Lyon, Ark, Merriday Park and others. The very detailed fantasy cover art evidently shows "The Prophet as he enters the mythical Valley Of The Stone Giants." And why not? Created for and by lovers of the mega-heavy and the ultra obscure. SIDE 1: 1. Concrete # 1 - Ken Boe (Featuring Milo Mars) 2. Got To Get Away - Frozen Sun 3. Makes Me Wanna Hollar - Osceola 4. Blue Sea Circus - Greylock Mansion 5. That's My Baby - Butter 6. Witchcraft - Merriday Park SIDE 2: 1. It All Comes Back - Gidian's Bible 2. Heat - The Fabulous Fish 3. In The Desert - Ark 4. Something Happened - Hindenburg Lyon 5. Underground Purple - Result's Of Adult's 6. Hey Jim - S.O.S.

BUFFALO TOMBS - HEKHALOT/MERKABAH (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Psychedelic lo-fi stoner rock from Denver featuring Eric Stuart of Earthdiver. Buffalo Tombs combine fuzzed out guitars, tribal rhythms, and psych jams taking you thru the desert on a journey of awakening.

BUNSUIREI - FIRST GIG (CD/EKKOGUSA TALL GRASS)

Japanese import. Bunsuirei is one of the most unique new psychedelic bands from Japan. They are influenced by bands from the Japanese underground scene like Ché-SHIZU, Tori Kudo/Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Hallelujahs, Kousokuya, Fushitsusha, Hisato Higuchi etc. 'First Gig' was recorded as support act for Ché-SHIZU on August 11th, 2019 in Tokyo. The first half of the album contains four unprocessed live recordings. A field recording of cicadas cawing is inserted as an interlude, and the second half contains a version of the same live recording mixed with environmental sounds such as crows cawing, water sounds, passing trains, thunder, crowded streets, and conversations. This is a unique double feature. The remix and sound arrangement was done by Baba Masami, who is a noted sound artist. Previously released on a limited CD-R, it is now available again on a factory pressed CD. Limited to 200 copies.

SLEEPING TIGERS - DARKEST CAVE (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Salt Lake City's Sleeping Tigers are back with the EP 'Darkest Cave'. Three blistering stoner/grunge bangers sure to please Satan himself! Also includes the 2019 single 'Free Life' as well as their debut 7" on Forbidden Place 'Ancient Request'/'Railroads'.

SAYOZOKU - BIRTH OF SAYOZOKU (CD3/EKKOGUSA TALL GRASS)

Sayozoku is an improvisational duo consisting of Sayaka Tenjin (voice, percussion, toys etc.) and Yonju Miyaoka (vocals, guitar, keybord, cymbals, toys, sarangi). ,They play not with technique but with heart, mind and soul directly. Guest: Harutaka Mochizuki on sax on track 5. 3-inch CDR limited to 100 copies. Order fast!

GARAGE/BEAT/SURF/ROCK’N’ROLL

WYLDE TRYFLES - FUZZED AND CONFUSED (LP/SOUNDFLAT)

The Wylde Tryfles sound wild and out of control, playing their modern take on ultra-fuzzed '60s garage-punk, full of snotty garage vocals, screams, back from the grave vibes and hypnotic dangerous beats. The sound of their LP 'Fuzzed And Confused' is a continuous wave of influences from '60s and '80s garage punk era, such as The Shadows Of Knight, Count Five, The Cynics, The Tell-Tale Hearts, The Pandoras and The Sonics.

PUNK/HARDCORE

CHUZPE - TERROR IN KLEIN BABYLON (LP/BACHELOR)

Don't be ashamed of your "record collection" you can now upgrade your possessions of early Austrian punk rock with the purchase of this essential album. Bachelor Records did spare no expense or effort to present you this groundbreaking masterpiece, the first recordings of the first punk band from Vienna, Austria: Chuzpe. This ain't no shabby thing here, no bootleg pressing of practice room tapes that spent decades under someones filthy mattress. No wrong liner notes, no thin paper sleeve... sorry. This is just what this band deserves. Eric Brady took the audio and did some wizardry, Robert Wolf himself took care of all artwork, Al Bird Dirt - impresario extraordinaire - was responsible for the liner notes, and all of this is now housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. This is a limited edition of 500 copies.

METAL/STONER/HARDROCK

AMAMMOTH - THE FIRE ABOVE (ORANGE) (LP/ELECTRIC VALLEY)

Amammoth is a really loud sludge/doom band from Sydney, Australia, influenced by Sleep, Melvins, Eyehategod, Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. Long, hypnotic, simple yet textured seven minute songs. A sonic scream into the abyss and a sacrifice of the innocents at the alter of the almighty bong. The record sounds like a weighted blanket, a comforting fire on a frozen night, a shot of heroin to shut out the voices, a knife in the throat of those who have wronged you, the tender touch of a lover who had plans for you which were not negotiated in the verbal contract of consent. Comes on solid orange vinyl.

DIXIE GOAT - (BLACK) THERE'S NO LIGHT WITHOUT DARKNESS (LP/ELECTRIC VALLEY)

Second studio album from Santiago hard-rockers Dixie Goat. On 'There's No Light Without Darkness', the power-trio put its musical influences into a bowl and mixed them hard enough. It took five years and finally the Goat is back louder, heavier and slower. 'There's No Light Without Darkness' is a record that will moreover delight fans of Black Sabbath, Corrosion Of Conformity, Down and Soundgarden. The album was recorded and mixed by NES (Wild Parade, The Ganjas drummer) at BYM Records, mastered by Jack Endino and produced by Dixie Goat. Album artwork by Chilean artist José "KAT" Canales.

EYEHATEGOD - EYEHATEGOD (BLACK) (LP/SVART)

The eponymous Eyehategod album, released in 2014 on Century Media after a 14-year break is a formidable return to form from the pioneers of NOLA sludge nihilism. Considered by many to be their best since the classic record 'Take As Needed For Pain', Svart Records are proud to bring the out-of-print slab of loathing and rejection back on vinyl.

OCEANA - THE PATTERN (2LP) (LP/TIME TO KILL)

First full length album by this Roman trio with members of Novembre and Stormlord. A great album of progressive metal. Harder than current day Dream Theater or Katatonia, Oceana is no less melodic.

PENTAGRAM - SHOW 'EM HOW (BLACK) (LP/SVART)

Authorised vinyl reissue. Black vinyl. Gatefold jacket with silver foil. Further infections to feed your disease - an official reissue of Pentagram's 2004 cult album! On 'Show 'Em How' the doom metal legend Bobby Liebling is joined by members of the Maryland doom metal cult Internal Void for a spellbinding selection of of new songs and renditions of old classics such as 'Starlady' and 'If The Winds Would Change'. With exclusive artwork by the Italian masters Malleus, this is the definitive edition of this cult metal classic.

PONEY - PAGAN NOUVEAU (LP/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Fifth release by Poney. Poney plays a chaotic blend of sludge, shoegaze, stoner metal and post-hardcore.

WOORMS - SLAKE (LP/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

A great band that achieves a pulverizing heaviness and presents something truly creative and interesting is RARE... the debut album 'Slake' immediately put Louisiana's Woorms in the same company as their famed contemporaries (Melvins, Neurosis, Down, Mastodon, Godflesh). The music is a creepy and frightening blend of sludge, doom, noise and atmospheric scapes. Third pressing of 150 copies on "dead fox gold smoke" coloured vinyl.

FULANNO - NADIE ESTA A SALVO DEL MAL (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Fulanno are a full on Argentinian doom unit with sludgy undertones, whose riffs are thick and nasty, rhythms are thunderous and pummeling and whose vocals are clean and strong.

HERMANSSON, PETER - SECOND GLANCE (CD/GMR MUSIC)

Peter Hermansson is foremost known for being the drummer in Swedish rock band 220 Volt, but he also played with melodic rockers Talisman, featuring the late Marcel Jacob, together with whom he also played in the classic first line-up of John Norum Band. Peter is highly prolific both as a songwriter, singer and drummer, as well as a producer. On 'Second Glance', Peter presents a bunch of self-composed songs and the album features members from bands such as Europe, Electric Boys, 220 Volt, Treat, Blindstone and Overdrive.

SHADOW PEOPLE - BATOM ROUGE/WASHING IN SOAP OPERA (CD/FORBIDDEN PLACE)

Emotional sludge punk from Baton Rouge, LA. Combining hardcore elements, sludgy heavyness and screaming emotional outbursts!

BLUES/COUNTRY/OLDIES

DUNN, WILLIE - (BLACK) CREATION NEVER SLEEPS, CREATION NEVER DIES (2LP (LP/LIGHT IN THE ATTIC)

Willie Dunn has sometimes compared to Leonard Cohen of folk and country music. The only difference was that Willie stayed away from the Hollywood showbiz game. In talent, he was Cohen, Dylan, and Cash rolled into one and along with Buffy Sainte-Marie, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, and A. Paul Ortega, brought a new set of perspectives and realities to the folk music tradition. This 2LP set is the definitive overview of one of Canada's unsung musical heroes. It includes rare and previously unreleased recordings, photos, interviews, lyrics, discography, and filmography. All audio has been remastered and liner notes are from Kevin Howes (Voluntary In Nature).

JAZZ/AVANTGARDE

SZABO, GABOR - BACCHANAL (EXTENDED EDITION) (LP/EBALUNGA!!!)

The long-awaited reissue of this rare eastern and psychedelic jazz LP by the famous Hungarian guitarist, originally released in 1968. This extended edition comes with four bonus tracks: radio versions from 7" singles (1968).

KAWASHIMA, MAKOTO -& NAOTO NISHIZAWA- - DUO: HAMACHIDORI (CD/HOMOSACER)

Makoto Kawashima: altosaxophone, Naoto Nishizawa: percussion. The song 'Hamachidori' is a Japanese nursery rhyme, which this serene and passionate duo plays very differently. Nishizawa's percussion is played gently, loosely, and never becoming violent or inflammatory. Kawashima's saxophone, with its rich sound that includes even noise without melody, moves the listener's emotional heart.

REGGAE/DUB/SKA/ROCKSTEADY

JONES, VIVIAN - INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM (7"/ROOTS VIBRATION)

Crucial '90s production by Ossie Thomas. One of the lesser-known tunes by Vivian Jones, but what a rough diamond this is, computer-programmed digital drums and horns guide Vivian's tremendously fetching vocals. Drops heavy!

KING SHARK - BLACK MAN (7"/ROOTS VIBRATION)

Conscious early '90s tune by King Shark. Self-produced and released on his own label Green Farm in 1991. Easy-going rhythm, horns and bass and fantastic conscious lyrics. Listen!

PALMA, TRISTON - BORN NAKED (7"/ROOTS VIBRATION)

Next cut to 'Institutionalized Racism' with Triston Palma on the vocals and a different dub. Produced by Ossie Thomas.

WAUGH, ASHANTI - POLICE POLICE (7"/ROOTS VIBRATION)

Scorching '80s tune previously only released on his scarce 'Crime Act' album. Produced by Ossie Thomas with dub version on the flip by The Soul Syndicate.

YABBY YOU & THE PROPHETS - DUB CONQUEROR (10") (10"/PRESSURE SOUNDS)

Three remixes of the roots classic 'Conquering Lion'. An extended mix by On U Sound/This Heat stalwart Martin Harrison, heavy on the bassline with a steppers vibe contrasting with 2 slower radical remixes by Paolo 'Dubfiles' Baldini. Lean mean and a great way to start 2021! Yabby You's 'Conquering Lion' taken with love, care and attention to somewhere new and beautiful. Comes in a National Bird custom sleeve.

JONES, VIVIAN - BANK ROBBERY (LP/ROOTS VIBRATION)

Vivian Jones' debut album, originally released in 1983 and backed by Undivided Roots. Heavy slow sparse rhythms (in a Roots Radics style) and floating keyboards. Superb roots by this inspired UK singer, including the well-known tunes 'Flash It And Gwan' and 'Third World Man'.

YABBY YOU & THE PROPHETS - CONQUERING LION (EXPANDED EDITION) (2LP) (LP/PRESSURE SOUNDS)

'Conquering Lion' stands as one of the few truly essential albums of the roots era. As devotional as anything by Burning Spear, as polemical as Bob Marley, and as militant as the Mighty Diamonds, the album also communicates a haunting spiritual quality that is uniquely its own. Amazingly, for such a coherent work, the tracks were recorded over a period of at least four years, yet come together to present a single coherent vision. The album was first issued in Jamaica by Micron, and in the UK with a different tracklisting as 'Ram-A-Dam' on the Lucky label in 1976. Here the album is presented for the first time in expanded form, together with its dub counterpart.

AFRO-BEAT/FUNK & PSYCH/DESERT BLUES/ETHIOPIQUES

BAZALI BAM - ACTION (LP/WAH WAH)

An awesome and extremely rare South-African Afro-psych, garage rock and funk album from the '70s gets reissued on vinyl (limited edition of 500 copies) for the first time ever. Here presented with remastered audio and reproduced artwork, 'Action' is essential for fans of Nigerian legends Blo, SJOB Movement and Ofege, Zam-rockers à la W.I.T.C.H., Amanaz and The Peace, and Psychedelic Aliens from Ghana. Bazali Bam was a mysterious band of which little is known. Fact is that the LP was produced by African funk master, composer, guitarist and producer Almon Sandisa Memela.
