These sides, originally recorded at Chess Studios, represent the only audible remains of the band which played frequently in Chicagos burgeoning "Old Town" music scene. The record was originally released in an edition of a few hundred on the Chicago label "Jim-Ko" in 1967. The searing lead guitar on the A-side Progress is a tough Chicago garage take on a song made popular by The Pretty Things and features the very early use of a wah-wah pedal, which was only invented in late 1966. The band played all the major clubs throughout Chicago and its suburbs as well as a few gigs on the road, including a two week booking at the Aragon Ballroom backing up Baby Huey and the Babysitters. With their improvisational mixture of rock, jazz and new music, Agitation Free -soon relegated to the not so flattering category of "Krautrock"- made musical forays into areas that few of their fellow German musicians had ever penetrated. At a time when most in Germany were still orienting themselves as closely as possible to Anglo-American musical formats, Agitation Free found a completely new and very original form of musical expression. Starting with their debut album 'Malesch', Agitation Free delivered a fascinating sound, influenced not least by the impressions from a Near East tour. The band moved toward a form of meta-music, a weaving of exotic-sounding compositions. The album has been justly regarded as a milestone in the genre, especially abroad. Looking back, it's evident that Agitation Free was one of the most important bands of the experimental circle known as the "Berlin School", and a career springboard for a whole slew of musicians. 0373809 LP MIRLP 100201 0889397100605 MIRUMIR	BAILEY, DEREK - IMPROVISATION The godfather of improvisational guitar, Derek Baileys praises have been sung far and wide by everyone from Pat Metheny to Karlheinz Stockhausen for having revolutionized the way the instrument was played over the last half of the twentieth century. Although fans are often frustrated by the low-fidelity of his earlier recordings, this 1975 LP (originally released on the Italian avant-garde label, Cramps), stands out in that regard. Recorded in an actual studio (unlike most of his early work) in Milan, for this session Bailey was apparently asked by his Italian hosts to define "improvisation". He then proceeded to give his answer in the form of these fourteen tracks (eight performed with electric guitar, five with six-string acoustic guitar, and one with a 19-string acoustic guitar). 0378799 LP WORMREC 4278 2090503787995 WORM	BASTIEN, PIERRE - ENTOMOLOGY A threesome of coloured vinyl by WORM Records. These records are extraordinary not just because of their appearance (bright yellow, blue and pink vinyl), but also because of their unique origins. The a-sides of the records were recorded for Soundpiece, a soundinstallation under the floor of the Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam. WORM invited the composers Machinefabriek, Pierre Bastien and Dyane Donck/Daisy Bell to compose a piece for this. The results are three soundartworks/tape compositions that are made for public space, but are impressive as an isolated piece of art as well. Towards the end of 2011 the pieces rang out at fixed times during the Soundpiece installation and something that stands out well, are the different approaches taken by the three composers. Bastien is very French, but for quite some time now lives in Rotterdam. His work finds its place on the secant of installations / robotica / visual arts on one side and soundart / jazz / improvisation on the other. Pierre is signed to the Rephlex label (the Aphex Twin playground) but also turns out projects for dozens of other labels whilst working in the realms of dance and theatre too. Soundpiece is a soundinstallation in the public space of the Schouwburgsplein in Rotterdam and utilising 32 speakers covers an area of 30 by 30 meters. Recorded live at Copenhagen's Club Montmartre' on May 4th, 1956, this rare LP is one of the few remaining live recordings of Broonzy from this period. While the track selection of standard blues numbers is typical of his European performances, Broonzy was always a crowd pleaser and tried to play the songs that each individual person in the audience wanted to hear, never letting his ego get in the way and, thereby, winning the hearts of fans everywhere! 0373811 LP MIRLP 100203 0889397100629 MIRUMIR	CARDEW, CORNELIUS - NOVA MUSICHA #6: FOUR PRINCIPLES ON IRELAND Having worked closely with Karlheinz Stockhausen during the late 1950s, the Irish-born Cornelius Cardew became a major figure on the European avant-garde music scene over the following decade. However, by the early 1970s Cardew had become deeply involved in the international communist movement which created a growing rift between himself and his colleagues (particularly after his book Stockhausen Serves Imperialism was published in 1974). As Cardews politics changed, so did his music, which began drawing more and more from the populist roots of folk music. On this LP Cardew proposes a series of compositions based on the revolutionary songs of different countries (i.e. the Irish Rebellion of 1798, the Islamic Rebellion of 1937, the uprisings in West Berlin in the early seventies). It is perhaps not surprising that Cardews new music found a home in Italy of the 1970s (this LP was originally released on the Italian Cramps label), as the Italian Communist Party was extremely strong during this era. Originally formed by bassist/vocalist Nick Irwin alongside his guitar playing brother Justin Irwin, the pair have teamed up with drummer Darren King and new guitarist Dave Achille to record tracks for 'Ruminate'. Nick and Dave had previously played together in the nineties with Full Tab, following that Dave went on to join Tumbleweed, recording with them on the album 'Return To Earth'. Recorded in Sydney by their long time recording engineer Russell Pilling at Damien Gerard studio's, the tapes were then shipped off to California to be mixed by Billy Anderson. The man responsible for recording artists such as Sleep, Fantomas and Eyehategod has given Immolate a sound that captures the band the way they are meant to sound. Playing live across the east coast of Australia alongside bands such as Bloodduster, The Dwarves and Mondo Generator in recent times the band are now ready to take their music further across Australia and internationally.
