0375368 7" HUNT 1410 HUNT	AL'S UNTOUCHABLES - COME ON BABY/STICK AROUND (HUNT) In 1965 The Untouchables recorded what turned out to be a double-sided hit in the upper Midwest in 1966 with the songs "Come On Baby" and "Stick Around", both penned by Hankins and Douglas writing under the name of Thomas Richards. "Come on Baby" is now being called "The Holy Grail of Garage Punk". From Iowa City, Iowa. Second of two 45s, this from 1966. Both sides feature screaming punk. "Come on Baby" is full of raw energy and fast trashy ringing guitar. "Stick Around" is an original composition, blues/soul crossover with an intense break. Attaining Single of the Week status at a number of esteemed UK outlets and radio plays galore for both A and B sides on 6music especially- notably from Jarvis Cocker and Andrew Weatherall. The recently extended "I am Ampersand", is the moniker for the solo project of Fujiya and Miyagis Matthew Hainsby- and "Negative" acts perfectly here as a taster for the incredible debut LP. Like its predecessor 45, "Negative" is propelled initially by a gentle, predominantly acoustic motorik backbeat with wood block percussion. Direction changes midway through as ghostly backing vocals and a nagging earworm of a keyboard riff joins the mix. Beautiful stuff.. Like "20 Seas" before it, not only does this contain a gorgeous B side- in this case "Minus Sign", but the packaging on this 45 is exquisite- 300 numbered copies on clear orange wax complete with a numbered, signed screen print from Matt himself inside every copy! This was their first release, and it's a great way to start. A genius version of the Slim Harpo classic played through a haze of electrically-charged Stones-itus. These guys did shows with the Elevators and even covered one of their tracks for their third 45. This masterful punk gem came on Dunwich, itself a Chicago label, and was the only thing this bunch released before vanishing into the wind. It assaults the senses with a jagged twin guitar sting and crashes through with a full on 3 chord crunch. They made they mark with this one 45, never feeling the need to make a second - as all bands should. Allegedly one of them became a priest. It's A Shame is a great harmonica-led punk one chord wonder getting more intense as it builds, whilst Makin Love is a cover of the legendary Sloths track. It's not as crude as the Sloths but equally as powerful with a more rocketing Stones beat. The bands music career was pole-axed when two members of the band got drafted shortly after this was released. Curdling blood-thirsty fuzz guitar, pounding bass and a leering vocal make this three-chorder stand head and shoulders above the rest, so much so that the band would bleach their hair white. Special deluxe edition, limited to 1000 numbered copies of a hard cardboard box set which includes three 7" singles (each with its own sleeve), a CD in slim cardboard sleeve, an 8-page booklet and a card. It contains the first material recorded by Esplendor Geométrico between 1980 and 1981. One of the singles includes their first demo, recorded after their formation, with three tracks of industrial-minimal-tecno-pop among which is the well known 'Moscu Esta Helado'. This demo was sent in 1980 to the German label Ata Tak, run by Der Plan, who chose 'Moscu...' for their legendary compilation "Fix Planet!". The second single is a facsimile reissue of 'Necrosis en la poya', originally released in 1981 and which already shows EG's shift towards harsher industrial rhythms. Finally, the third single includes four tracks recorded in 1981 soon after 'Necrosis.' Three of them are previously unreleased and were found recently on an old, lost reel tape. The CD includes the ten tracks from the singles plus another five extra tracks from the same period, originally released on the cassette "Esplendor Geométrico 1980-1981". The 8-page booklet features texts, designs and period photos. All tracks have been remastered and the artwork is by Juan Carlos Sastre, professional designer, founding member of EG and also author of the tracks' lyrics (Moscu Esta Helado, Negros Hambrientos...). This rare out-take with vocals sounds great given the 45 treatment! On the flip, Cameron Stallones Sun Araw offers up a fabulous take on the Jaybird Coleman classic blues piece "Im Gonna Cross That River of Jordan". An incredible version, heavy on dense layers of glorious feedback, coated with sweet 2 chord keyboard and heavy dubbed vocals. Totally stunning and eternally building over 9 incredible minutes. Soundway continue their single series with the incendiary Shango by Lord Nelson who hails originally from the Caribbean island of Tobago. The original 1978 track sits on the A-side with a bass-heavy, dancefloor-minded remix from Daniel Haaksman and DJ Beware on the flip side. Robert Lord Nelson, now in his 80s, is one of Trinidad and Tobago's most popular artists with a string of hit records from the 1950s all the way through to the 80s and 90s. After leaving Trinidad for the USA in the early 50s Nelson soon became a much-loved calypsonian with the expatriate community in the New York area and beyond, as well as back home in the Caribbean, with his unique style of mixing calypso and later soca with soul, funk disco and boogie. Taken from the 1978 Charlie's LP Black Gold, Shango was produced by Clive Bradley - one of Trinidad's top producers in the 1970s. With Shango Nelson follows a tradition of calypso and soca tracks that focus on the shango cults of Trinidad and Tobago that have their roots in the religion of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. With its driving 4/4 beat, traditional instrumentation and choral chants it was a step away from his trademark poppy and soul-flavoured soca-funk sound of the late 70s. Berlin based DJ, producer and owner of Man Recordings Daniel Haaksman is one of the key names on the tropical bass scene and along with DJ Beware (UK/Hong-Kong) has tweaked it up and rolled it out with a little extra trademark weight for the dancefloor. (10" As one of the most triumphant and beguiling directorial debut features to emerge from the fruitful Polish New Wave, Andrzej Zulawski's 1971 film Third Part Of The Night not only earned the 30 year old filmmaker a place next to other radical Polish directors such as Polanski, Skolimowski and Has, but also galvanised a creative bond with long running collaborator and composer Andrzej Korzynski, providing fans of foreign abstract/suspense cinema with a potent creative fusion to match those of Polanki/Komeda, Fellini/Rota and Argento/Goblin, amongst others. Quite simply one of the heaviest psych rock film soundtracks of all time Andrzej Korzynski's short and unreleased score matched the blueprint that adorned the drawing boards of conceptual French jazz orch rock composers like Jean-Claude Vannier, Francois De Roubaix and Alain Gourageur, creating a soundtrack that unknowingly begs comparison to Masahiko Satô's Belladonna Of Sadness and Billy Green's Stone. As one of the first progressive pop writers to come out of the vibrant (but carefully scrutinised) Polish beat scene with his bands Ricecar and later Arplife (and composing for national heroes such as Czeslaw Niemen, Niebiesko-Czarni and Test) Korzynskis growing passion for conceptual rock and jazz music soon lead to instrumental composition and soundtrack scores. His cinematic debuts scoring two consecutive transitional new wave films for Andrzej Wajda (in collaboration with the radical Polski pop groups Trubadurzy and Grupa ABC) also provided Korzynski with another significant cinematic muse in that of the stunning actress Malgorzata Braunek with whom they would both eventually achieve their finest performances under the direction of the ravenous first timer Zulawski. Third Part Of The Night (1971) perhaps epitomises that triangular on-screen unison in its vibrant youth and feeds it through a hallucinogenic mangle finding astonishing beauty (within a repulsive synopsis) against a bleak and shattered backdrop and accompanied by progressive, psychedelic orchestral rock music - elements which would intensify for all three creatives with the next film, Diabel, which was banned by the Polish government the following year until 1988. Third Part Of The Night also marks the public unison of Zulawski and Braunek whose later private romantic relationship is said to form the basis for another defining Zulawski/Korzynski defining endeavour with the 1981 film Possession exactly a decade later, encapsulating a period that bequeaths a previously unopened vault of some of the composers finest and most inspired sonic adventures. It looked like he was going to have a long and promising career, when suddenly in the mid-sixties he gave up music altogether and disappeared from the jazz world. Thankfully, before doing so he recorded several sessions, including two as leader for Blue Note in 1957. This quintet session (recorded with the all-star rhythm section of Kenny Burrell, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, and Danny Richmond) is considered to be the better of the two. Here Jenkins also gets an opportunity to show off his flair for composition as well, contributing three of the six pieces found on the album ("Motif", "Sharon" and "Chalumeau"). As our maiden voyage into an expansive vat of unreleased music by Polish composer Andrzej Korzynski, Finders Keepers Records presents his previously unreleased electro/orchestral/experimental score for Andrzej Zulawski's surrealist 80s horror classic, Possession. These 25 cues were written and recorded exclusively for the 1981 award-winning film starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neil, but due to the progressive, stark and modernist nature of the finished film less than half of them made it on to the actual directors cut - leaving many of the tracks on this package totally unheard outside of Korzynskis studio. The intended Possession score in its entirety marks an important axis in Korzynskis career where his various musical disciplines overlap. In one respect it marks his first forays into to synth driven electronics and disco drum machines, while other tracks epitomise the well honed techniques used in previous Zulawski scores, such as Third Part Of The Night and The Devil, which rely on his inimitable orchestral arrangements and combination of clavinet, Rhodes, piano and electric guitar. This is the first time any of this music has been released outside of the films original context and is packaged on CD, 12" vinyl and conceptual green compact cassettes housed in miniature clamshell cases reminiscent of the films original VHS release that briefly adorned UK video shops in the early 1980s (before being banned by over excited censors as one of the unprosecuted video nasties' in the infamous 1983 tape cull). The important restoration of Korzynski's music aims to shed new light on the seldom manufactured productions of the composer whose vast cinematic catalogue warrants overdue global status alongside other golden era Eastern European composers such as Kryzstof Komeda, Jan Hammer and Zdenek Liska - not to mention the best of the French and Italian sound trackers, such as Roubaix, Vannier and Nicolai. 0343914 LP OS 9 ONDERSTROOM	POLAR PRAXIS - MUSIC FOR FIREWORKS In 1978, Philippe Genion bought a guitar for 1000 belgian francs (25 euro). He connected it to his hifi amp, quickly learned how to play "smoke on the water" and a few punk songs with two fingers and within two weeks, pushing the amp more and more to the limit, blew his 200W speakers out. Later, around 1980, he bought an old ARP synthesizer from walloon band "Jo Lemaire plus Flouze" and started playing with these instruments and a few old flanger and distortion pedals, and started recording songs on a reel-tape recorder belonging to the RTBF! Philippe Genion started creating bands with all the friends that he was meeting in the train from Charleroi to Brussels, on the way to the rock concerts he went to several times per week. This way, many bands were created, among which Los Casios, The Presocratic Umbrellas, JTB, Confite Sonar and à;GRUMH... which became a major EBM band of the 80's and now has a practically cult status. In the meantime, parallel to being involved in bands with other people, Genion, who had become S3 EVETS, created three solo projects : A FINGER SOCIETY, for pop electronic songs, THE PENULTIMATE INFINITY, for arty projects, not only music but also painting, poems, writing and performances and POLAR PRAXIS for more serious and also industrial music. The only project that became prolific was Polar Praxis. A first tape called "GORY OSCILLATION" came out on Titicaca, a long improvisation made on the basis of three cassette tapes, mixed together with live studio interventions. After that, S3 started to compose songs in various styles, industrial, electro, experimental, minimalistic, and also repetitive music. The first tape called "WERK EEN" was released on TTKK, later followed by "WERK TWEE" en "WERK DRIE" both with collector multiple covers. In 1985, Polar Praxis released "MUSIQUES POUR FEUX D'ARTIFICE" on Play it Again Sam's "Scarface" sub-label, a two side/two songs LP containing rythmic dance-like electronic music, which pre-figured the DJ'S of the end of the 90's ! Later, on the new label created by S3 and Kenny Gates of PIAS, "CIRCLE RECORDS", Polar Praxis released a second, and last, mini-album "FIREWORKS", a collection of songs all titles "Music for Fireworks", repetitive music in the style and inspiration of Philip Glass and Steve Reich. In Sweden and in Stockholm specifically, the sign of those times gave rise to diverse politics, anarchistic and playful happenings that all intertwined eventually giving birth to a rather small but highly prolific and unique musical scene. Resan (The Trip) was surprisingly released on the Swedish CBS subsidiary label Epic in 1973 and is the rarest of all the major-label releases within the Swedish psychedelic/progressive era. It has been seen as continuation of the legendary Swedish Life album as it features all the former Life band members. The Resan (The Trip) crew all lived together in a hippie commune outside of Stockholm and the album represents a unique and almost hidden part of the most "heady" (cerebrally stoned and turned on) Stockholm psychedelic-rock-history. 0374397 LP CACHELP 3 CACHE/FINDERS K	VARIOUS - STRANGE PASSION Ireland in the late 1970s and early 1980s was an island in the grip of unrest, with civil and political strife in the north, and a tardy economy and religious hegemony in the south. To be young in Ireland at this time was extremely tough with many choosing to follow the well-worn path of emigration. A significant number of those that stayed had little choice but to join the dole as employment opportunities were scant. However, the increasing influence of those windows to the wider world such as TV, radio and print were combining to fuel imaginations and plant seeds of disaffection amongst an increasingly sophisticated and pop literate youth desperate for change. Needless to say when punk entered the mainstream the cultural and social conditions were such in Ireland that a new generation of kids were perfectly primed to tap into its energies and values. Focusing on a three year period from 1980 to 1983, Strange Passion is a compilation of rare, unheralded and unreleased Irish music that emerged after the first wave of punk and new wave bands. A time when the raw primitive sounds of punk began to absorb new ideas and technologies and emerging acts were reaching audiences on an unprecedented scale thanks to new magazines such as Hot Press and Heat, RTE Radio 2 and its Fanning Sessions, as well as new youth magazine programmes on national TV like Anything Goes. Access to UKs broadcasting and magazine cultural behemoths (Peel, NME, Morley etc.) as well as touring bands such as The Clash and PIL also played their part in creating an appetite for this thrilling new subculture and soon venues such as The Magnet, Dandelion and Project Arts Centre in Dublin and Kampus in Cork became significant live music hubs. This was catalysed by new youth scenes which sprung up particularly in the main urban centres of Belfast, Derry, Dublin and Cork. Fuelled by boredom, antipathy towards society and inspired by the developing DIY scene in the UK, new bands, independent labels fanzines and creative art provocateurs began to emerge. Such was the rapid growth and creative freedom of this new culture that for a couple of years there seemed a constant stream of emerging acts producing work that was both original in content and presentation. Undoubtedly U2 were the breakthrough act from this new generation of acts. However, others such as Virgin Prunes with their Dadaist inspired blend of performance art and punk offered a darker vision tapping into the latent energy of their environs which resulted in extraordinary live events and the odd incendiary TV performance. Live legends, The Threat and Chant! Chant! Chant! were gone almost as soon as they arrived but so fully formed were they already that recordings they did leave behind stand as prime examples of post punk music. Released in September 1968, Five Day Week Straw People were not a band, but rather the work of London-based songwriters David Montague and Guy Mascalo, who composed a song cycle that they once described as being about "people who work monotonously during the week and then try to enjoy themselves at weekends." The song writing pair hired in guitar, bass, drums, vocals and set up in a makeshift studio recording space (actually a school!). Taking just four hours, most of the tracks being recorded in one or two takes, the results were exceptional. Tracks like the title song, Im Going Out Tonight and the dreamy, shimmering Sunday Morning being particularly strong. Packaged in a colourful psychedelic sleeve, the LP is now quite rightly regarded as one of the classic LPs of the era and copies regularly sell for more than 100. The LP sold quite well at the time and the label wanted a follow-up album, but David Montague remembers that given how he and his partner had made no money from the LP (the modest fee was all given to the session players) they declined the offer and elected to focus their efforts on placing their songs with established music publishers. This is the first reissue of the album, by Montague and Mascalo, mastered from original tapes stored in the Library for nearly 40 years, and enhanced with the addition of two bonus tracks recorded the same year by the pair, not previously re-issued. Packaging includes further input from Montague and Mascalo. An all-time classic Brit psych LP and original copies still fetch good prices on the collectors market.
