Boduf Songs was Sweet's first attempt at recording himself playing his own songs, using a sparse variety of instruments. Mostly vocal and guitar oriented, it would be easy to confuse him with singer-songwriters. But Sweet's compositions are way more bleak and abrasive than what most people associate with the genre. Sweet has a profound love for loud and heavy music, which he takes in the exact opposite direction with Boduf Songs. It's hard to come up with more extreme quiet bands - He proves that quiet and introspective is a whole different thing than soft. Thusfar, Boduf Songs did 4 full lengths (all on the Kranky label), and a handful of very diverse EPs, on labels as Under The Spire, Bluesanct or Latitudes. As you can tell from the song titles, Internal Memo is to be consumed as a whole. Temping and the three songs with memo in the title are the key songs. People familiar with the first records will be happy to hear a few stripped down songs, while the b-side marks the return of the piano that had such an important role in setting the tone for the last album. The other tracks manage to bind the mini-album together. This limited 10" is the first release by Boduf Songs that was entirely created since Mat Sweet moved from the UK to Toledo, OH. 200 copies were made, in beautiful jackets, designed by Sweet himself, and printed in lush silver ink on black paper by Druckwerkstatt in Aachen, Germany. 0371481 EP MORC 60 2090503714816 MORC	MONSERÉ, ANNELIES - NEST (10") Annelies Monseré is one of those artists who graces us with excellent EPs that at the same time are a sort of missing link between full lengths, and being records that have enough qualities to be justified to be listened to on their own. Nest is no exception to this. The loud, built up start of the record gives a glimpse on what to expect on her yet unreleased third record, but is still heavily relying on the melodies that made her second album Marit so remarkable. The B-side of the EP is a lot starker, and very reminiscent of the style she used on her debut album 'Helder'. This is well illustrated by the traditional 'All Things Are Quite Silent', best known for the version recorded by Shirley Collins. Annelies delivers one loud and heavy organbased version, and a very bare pianoversion. Both are completely different, but yet strangely coherent. On 'Nest', two guest-musicians appear for the first time on Annelies side. Steve Marreyt, aka Edgar Wappenhalter and one of the founders of Silvester Anfang plays bass and sings in his unique style, while Yumi Verplancke does additional vocals as well - the first time she appears on a record since the release of the much sought after John Merrick Band 10" on Morc, back in 2004. This definitive body of work will present the entire official recorded output of The Hard-Ons first ten years of existence with a new reissue every three to four months. Smell My Finger debuts the series. Spanning the years 1984 - 1987, it contains all of the bands early 7 inch releases and the two 12 inch album releases Smell My Finger and Hot For Your Love, Baby. Gatefold / insert / poster. Formed in 2010, DRUID LORD isn't a seasoned band per se but its members damn are. Having served massively in the sadly overlooked EQUINOX but also in DIABOLIC, ACHERON or even the mighty INCUBUS, those guys are the real deal and have collectively decided under their new banner to go back to their roots, both musically and spiritually wise. So while the music of DRUID LORD is a fine return to the days of yore when VENOM, CELTIC FROST and POSSESSED reigned supreme, a time where death fuckin metal meant heavy tempos, great riffs and dark atmosphere, not technically wanking nor ill-fated so-called concepts, theyve been playing over the last two years the UG game faithfully according to its original rules. So besides one hell of a debut album released on Walpurgis night in 2010 (and aptly titled Hymns Of The Wicked), they've also been steadily putting out split seven EP with a couple of fellow retro-metalheads, namely WOODEN STAKE, KAIJU and SKELETAL SPECTRE. But this one is different. The first 7 inches of theirs bearing their name alone underneath its creepy Mark Riddick artwork enhanced by your average DOOMENTIA quality stamp, Druid Death Cult also contains what is maybe their heaviest material to date. Yes, the fact that the whole thing starts off to the sound of thunder, pouring thunder and of a church bell echoing (Black Sabbath anyone?!) in the distance aint no coincidence as those two new tracks, once again recorded by the bands own Tony Blakk last fall, were conceived under the sign of doooooom. Twelve fuckin minutes that are bound to firmly put DRUID LORD at the top of the old-school doom/death foodchain.

Lost sounds are the archives of a forgotten history. The raucously raw, Vodoun-inspired rhythms of Cotonou have confirmed Benin as a mecca of 70s Afro sounds and revived the story of its people, but the unopened vaults housing the country's catacombs of musical riches are endless. With this as our compass, Analog Africa charters its fifth expedition to Benin, traveling far north to delve deeper into the obscured repertoires and tales of the Bariba and Dendi people. Originating from the Kwara state of northwest Nigeria, the Bariba - a predominantly Islamic people - now dominate the Borgou department of Benin with the market city of Parakou at its heart. The rhythms of their culture constitute just one domain of the Islamic Funk Belt - a distinct musical swath of land encompassing northern Ghana, Togo and Benin. Once frequented by Muslim merchants and traders, the belt has yielded a rich harvest of talent with the likes of Uppers International (Ghana), Orchestre Abass, the Black Devils (Togo), Anassoua Jazz (Benin) and, undoubtedly the most powerful band from Parakou, Orchestre Super Borgou, who were first introduced to the West via Analog Africa's defining release, "African Scream Contest." The birth of modern African music in Parakou is inextricably linked to Super Borgou. The progressive-minded father of the band's founder, Moussa Mama, imported modern music - which he learned while working as a goldsmith in Accra, Ghana - to the region in the 50s. His return to Borgou and subsequent teachings spawned countless bands from villages across the department. In its infancy, Super Borgou served as a cover band for Congolese Rumba hits but, in line with the most enigmatic - and experimental - African bands of the day, they developed their own musical identity by reinventing traditional songs and rhythms. With Benin's foremost drummer, Bori Borro, in their ranks, Bariba and Dendi linguistic folklore - alongside melodies of an Islamic ilk - fused with Soul, Pachanga, Breakbeats, Rumba and Afro-Beat, Orchestre Super Borgou de Parakou manufactured a sound of penetrating and unpolished directness, blurring the line between the erstwhile rhythms of the devout village and the modern grooves infecting the forward-thinking city. Their reinvention redefines what contemporary audiences classify as the "Afro" genre. Performing live at the bar 'Congolaise', the high-octane live performances of Parakou's finest troupe also captured the imagination of Celestin Houenou Sezan, co-founder of Albarika Store (Benins most important music label), and Super Borgou were, in fact, the legendary label's very first EP release. Apart from Albarika, Discadam - and its sub labels Impressions Sonores du Nord and Echos Sonores du Borgou - were the band's major backers who helped galvanize the sound of northern Benin. Armed with a keen sense of philosophical observation, multi-instrumentalist Moussa Mama and rhythm guitarist Menou Roch, through their lyrics, reported on the socio-economic ills of their time - the rampant inequalities they saw around them - which established the band as noteworthy commentators on top of their gift of unique rhythm. Sticking with our dedication to dig deeper with each compilation, Analog Africa's Orchestre Super Borgou anthology opens an entirely new chapter of lost and resurrected Afro sounds. Remastered to recreate the energy of their legendary live performances, the story of this remarkable ensemble and the traditions of the people of Northern Benin is set to be revealed and documented like never before.
