The bands music blended hard rock with country and jazz, using complex arrangements and exhibited the ability to switch from gentle acoustic passages to booming heavy progressive assaults on the senses within the same song. Released in 1977 in an edition of 500 vinyl copies and quoted now for about 300 euros, it is the most wanted opus of German symphonic rock. With two keyboarders, incl. Mellotron. The attentive and expensive recordings meet nowadays high demands and were processed from the original master tape to LP. The first two tracks are with female vocals, the rest are instrumentals. 0358656 LP THLP 2 4016342600026 THORS HAMMER	FOTHERINGAY - ESSEN 1970 Fotheringay was the legendary English folk group around singer Sandy Denny who died a long time ago. She had become well-known with the groups Strawbs and Fairport Convention and was elected best British singer several times. At the end of 1969, she founded Fotheringay together with four friends. They could immediately sign a contract with the Island label. On Friday, 23rd October 1970, they had a gig at the third Essen Pop & Blues festival in the Gruga Hall. The concert was then recorded semi-professionally by the host. Now, the tapes have been elaborately re-mastered by Fotheringay guitarist Jerry Donahue who got the most out of the sound that was technically possible. 0363036 LP LP 6 4016342700061 GARDEN OF DELIG	GAA - AUF DER BAHN ZUM URANUS Gäa, a band from the Saarland region in Germany, played progressive rock with German lyrics. Their band name derives from the ancient Greek gods, for whom Gaia was the goddess of the earth and fertility. The group's only LP, 'Auf Der Bahn Zum Uranus', was a limited edition release on the Kerston label in 1974. Copies today change hands for about 600 EUR. It is a mature and well-balanced album, the artistic value of which long remained undiscovered. The tasteful cover was designed by Eduard Bell, the brother of Gaa bassist Peter Bell. There were several re-issues of the album -LPs as well as CDs-, but unfortunately not all of them were legitimate releases. 0347396 LP LP 2 4016342700023 GARDEN OF DELIG	KALACAKRA - CRAWLING TO LHASA Kalacakra's "Crawling to Lhasa" is one of the few German psychedelic classics. Their 1972 LP has become such an attractive collectors' item (today's value is 300 euros in mint condition) that several bootlegs have appeared on the market. The legitimate LP release on the Garden of Delights label is limited to 1000 numbered copies, housed in gatefold sleeve and contains a 4-page colour insert in LP size, featuring a detailed history (in German and English language) of the Duisburg band and their community together with a detailed discography, cover and label repros, and numerous photographs, which reflect the sombre, stoned atmosphere of the record in a perfect manner. "Raga no. 11" is probably the best track, with "Nearby Shiras" reflecting the most psychedelic aspect of the band's music. 0363038 LP LP 7 4016342700078 GARDEN OF DELIG	LANG'SYNE - LANG'SYNE Langsyne from Barmen (Bergisches land region) in Germany played a subtle kind of psych-folk with a wide range of partly unusual, exotic and medieval instruments: sitar, psaltery, koto, glockenspiel, flute, etc. Especially remarkable is the instinctive assurance with which the three musicians, who understood each other without words, played their music together. Their only LP was released as a very small edition of only 200 copies in 1976. It is today the second most expensive "Deutschrock-LP" (close on the heels of the first edition of Cans 'Monster Movie'). Original copies nowadays fetch more than 1000 EUR. The reissues on Lost Pipedreams and Rebirth are not available any more. Therefore this new edition on Garden Of Delights is now available, with one bonus track. 0368477 LP THLP 3 4016342600033 GARDEN OF DELIG	MAY BLITZ - ESSEN 1970 Limited vinyl version housed in deluxe gatefold sleeve. May Blitz have been compared to Led Zeppelin, the early Black Sabbath, or the early Uriah Heep. The only difference being that May Blitz never had their great breakthrough. Their history ended after only two LPs which, however, are today in high demand. On Tuesday, 22nd October 1970, the group performed in the Gruga hall at the third Essen Pop & Blues Festival. The event was recorded semi-professionally. The recordings could be purchased from the promoters and were mastered in a studio with great effort and care. The sound, however, is naturally not as good as that of the two studio LPs. The 32-page booklet contains a long band history in German and English, photographs, a detailed discography, numerous cover and label repros as well as a personal retrospective report by guitarist and singer James Black. A must for collectors. It is the first legitimate release of a May Blitz live recording. 0370522 LP BAMLP 7003 4752817700326 BAMBOO	MIZUTANI, KIMIO - A PATH THROUGH HAZE (UK) 180g vinyl reissue of this ultra-rare 70s Japanese rock album. Kimo Mizutani was the guitarist in the excellent Japanese Freak-out group, Love Live Life + 1 and this reissue is of his first solo album from 1971. Mizutani plays electric and "folk" guitar and leads a largish ensemble (bass, drums, organ, Moog and vocals) through what is widely regarded as one of the true psychedelic masterpeices of the 70s Japanese scene. Sensitive interludes (accompanied by the Toyama String Quartet and the Etoh Wood Quartet) , tasteful nods to progressive/fusionist extension and a lovely, hovering psych guitar from Mizutani dominate proceedings. Released in 1970 on the obscure Map City label, Cleveland-based Purple Image sadly managed only this lone effort. Its clever use of fuzz and wah-wah guitar demonstrates a clear Hendrix influence, as does the second side's final track, 'Marching To A Different Drummer', 15-minutes of far out guitar-jammin' extravaganza. The overall sound is tight and driving, making for a truly excellent album with some outstanding cover art. Their one and only LP "Walpurgis" (from 1969) is legendary and hardly affordable. So, evidently, a lot of bootleg versions appeared on the market over the years, but all of them very poorly done. The LP on Garden of Delights comes in a gatefold cover and, as usual, with a 4-page insert in LP size, including a detailed band history in German and English language, discography, cover and label repros, band photographs etc. The LP has three bonus tracks. Two of those are taken from the very rare sampler "1. Schweizer Rhythm and Blues Festival". The early version of "Repent Walpurgis" comes from a so-called split single from 1968, where you can find The Etc on its flip side. 0354833 LP LP 5 4016342700054 GARDEN OF DELIG	SUNDENFALL II - SUNDENFALL II Suendenfall II from the Kevelaer area at the Lower Rhine played a mixture of folk and jazz, influenced by Jethro Tull. While their predecessors, Suendenfall, exclusively dedicated themselves to jazz, the group included folk after a change in line-up and band name (following the example of Amon Duul II). In 1972, Hubert Schmitz invited the band into his Trepitia film and sound studio in Alpen-Druept for free recordings, as he wanted to test the newly installed equipment after a recent move into the new location. Thus the recordings were made for the album "Suendenfall II" (Trefiton HS 1017), which was released in a small edition of 200 copies at the end of 1972. Today it is sold at a price of about 500 to 1000 in mint condition. 0354830 LP LP 4 4016342700047 GARDEN OF DELIG	TETRAGON - STRETCH Tetragon, successor of Trikolon, were founded in Osnabrueck (Lower Saxony) in the spring of 1971. They released their first and only LP, "Nature", in that very year. It came out as CD on Musea in 1995. At the end of 1971, Tetragon recorded in a Hamburg studio five long tracks in their well-proven style for their second LP, the release of which, however, failed. Fortunately, the master tape has survived until the present day, so that now, 39 years past schedule, the work was released on LP. Three of the five songs have been written by the band itself, one by Eddie Harris ("Listen here") and one by John McLaughlin ("Dragon song"). The two latter ones had already been interpreted by Brian Auger. Especially remarkable are Hendrik Schaper's exceptional play on keyboards and Juergen Jaehner's hot guitar play. The other two, however, are their equals in skill and talent. Black vinyl limited to 500 copies. Ektro Records (Pori, Finland) celebrates the 70th birthday of electronic arts pioneer Erkki Kurenniemi (b. July 10, 1941) by releasing the LP Erkki Kurenniemi & Circle: Rakkaus tulessa ("Love On Fire"). The album is an odd "blind-date" concept, where two home cassette recordings from different eras are married together on editing table, creating a random sonic double-exposure. The backing tracks of this time tunnel are by Circle, taped in May 1999, and the romantic lead-vocals crooned by Kurenniemi himself, dating back to his cassette diary in January 11, 1972. Mash-up by Jussi Lehtisalo and Tuomas Laurila, produced by Lehtisalo and film-maker Mika Taanila. Available on vinyl only on Ektro's Full Contact imprint.
