0367853 7" SNDW 7016 5060091551343 SOUNDWAY	BOOMA ROCKERS - SOUL FOOD/BOOMA WOMAN The Booma Rockers were a London house-band put together by a young producer and songwriter from Guyana, Terry Nelson aka Omar Farouk. Nelson released approximately thirty 45s on his labels Halagala, Booma and Rude Boy in the late 1960 and early 1970s before returning home to Guyana to start a successful and well loved TV station. The majority of the records were of the ska and rocksteady persuasion but one or two stick out as being slightly different. 'Soul Food', a super weighty instrumental soul / blues / funk b-side was released in 1969/70 on Rude Boy Records featuring amongst others Ghanaian saxophonist and vocalist Teddy Osei (who went on to form the Afro rock band Osibisa). 'Booma Woman' was also a B-side in a more reggae-funk style released possibly a year later featuring vocalist Jean Manix. 0369044 7" INNL 55 5200347770856 INNER EAR	ELECTRIC LITANY - ENEMY With their debut album, "How To Be A Child And Win The War", not only won great reviews, but they were instantly loved by the Greek audience. Then came the concerts in Greece and Europe, where the lucky ones who attended, shared a unique experience. In expectation of their new material for some time now, finally theres a 7inch, forerunner of the second Electric Litany album, expected near the end of 2012. Electric Litany continue to compose, rehearse, make demos and live in public spaces combining economy with a certain clandestine charm and following an ideology that says that public buildings belong to the people for any possible use, even to write music. After the church that hosted them and the recordings of their first album, their new home for a while was a large rectory in West London, where "Enemy" was written. When forced to leave it, they moved to an old candy factory in East London, in which they built a rudimentary home studio and there continued to rehearse and wrote "Betrayal Of The Lamenting Circles". The final recordings took place - unexpectedly - in Athens this time, at Vasilis Terlegas studio, where the aesthetic connection between Terlegas and Litany was their shared love for analog recording on magnetic tape. The arrangement and the lyrics of the two tracks bridge lyricism with crudity and action. At the same time their thematics are looking for the perfect balance between personal/social revolution and eros/love, starting from the idea that to be someone or something revolutionary, they should have only love (for life, for mankind) On the other hand, for someone to truly love, to fall in love, the ideal is to be free. Basically the "Enemy" is all the things that we do not need and in fact harm us and getting rid of them as soon as possible, will give us one day when we will be able to have and we will only need our loved ones. The "Betrayal Of The Lamenting Circles" was written for all those dark love passions that triumphantly remind us how weak we are against love, the most obscure, the most incomprehensible and beautiful thing of all. This single was originally released in late 1982, and soon became pick hit of the week in Billboard Magazine in early 1983. Back then the A-side received most of the attention, leaving the B-side yet to be discovered. Both tunes were the first songs ever written by Harold, and his first recordings as a single artist. The early 80s was a time of uncertainty, the economy was in a shambles and male/female relationships were starting to deteriorate, this was Harold's inspiration for his music. The tracks deal with these issues in a (playful) manner with an agenda, which is far from spreading sadness. About the songs: A - 'In The Cool Of The Night' is a smooth classic and ostentatious 6/8 soul ballad in classic Motown style. In addition the track has an impressive lead vocal presentation, sang in a natural voice opposite to falsetto, bland horns arrangement, which is performed in an authentic orchestra manners. All of the above mold 'In The Cool Of The Night' to a true treasure among the soul heritage. B - 'Shortage Of Love' is a soulful upbeat energizer of booming disco beats, that is a bit dirty and slick simulta- neously. The tough windy comp, sexy backing vocals, and the punchy sax make this number to a musical party. With its four brass ensemble and its acoustic instrumentation generate the feel of the 70s rather than the time it was issued in. 'Happy affairs' as Harold gets to the heart of the tracks inspiration, making 'A Shortage Of Love' a pure reflection of the sentiments of those times. About Harold: Milwaukee based musician and composer, and co-owner of the Je-Har Label. Harold's career as a crossover balladeer has spanned over 30 years. It was a foretaste of what would follow, or the official baptism for the newcomers. The first Playground Noise 7inch, a rare item in the year 2008, is sold out for a long time now, while their debut album released last year, entitled after the bands name, has supported all the enthusiastic reactions provoked from their first recorded attempt and established the existing good reputation they already had as a band from their live appearances. The second 7inch, coming out in February by Inner Ear, remains true to the indie guitar sound of the band from Patras, while the new elements added to the arrangement and the lyrics influence the stylistic atmosphere of the tracks, without threatening the bands solid music base. Playground Noise continues to monitor the lives of those who dance on the edge of life in defiance of the risk of fall, only this time their heroes fall with more style and a little light comes to play with darkness. "A part of nothing / Apart from everything / I can still breathe / Im doomed but still I breathe". The addition of more strings and brass, the title of track "Swinging Lowdown" (a possible paraphrase of Swinging London) that could alternatively be "Falling And Laughing" (like that old Orange Juice track), the calm light that penetrates the reeds on the album cover and the lyrics of Cohen ["There is a crack in everything, thats how the light gets in"] on the back cover, are only a few signs . If you wanted the bootleg LP that used our title track, Hang It Out To Dry, as its title track a few years ago, youd need another 100 on top! 0365146 12" ZIQ 314 5055300329523 PLANET MU	KEEP SHELLY IN ATHENS - CAMPUS MARTIUS Hailing from Greece's capital, Keep Shelly in Athens has been the toast of the blog world for a while now, and their first EP for Planet Mu fits nicely on the roster of a label whose in 2011 discography includes the likes of Tropics, Vezelay and Heterotic. With several releases under their belt, the duo first came to Planet Mus attention with their remix of 'Cub', an awesome re-imagining of a track from Solar Bear's debut album. Its is a monumental slice of cold but blissful synth pop, with stadium-sized reverbs and punched-in repetitive vocals over rumbling guitars and punchy drums. 'The Chains' has all the off-key atmosphere of an Italian horror film soundtrack, with vocalist Sarah P intoning a melody that couldve come from Violator-era Depeche Mode. The song breaks down toward the end into an intense finale. Title track 'Campus Martius' is underpinned by a giant, humming bassline. Electronic drums scratch away like insects flying at windows as a gentle piano line ripples over the top, painting an airily pleasurable feeling while vocal samples drop a melody at altered pitches-a scene of tentative bliss. Finally, 'Struggle With Yourself' pits raw singing over a weird, acidic bassline that would be at home on a Coil record along with loose guitar strums, before the track breaks into light spoken word and angelic vocals. 0364444 12" ANNA 35 2090503644441 ANNA LOGUE	PASSION POLKA - OBSESSIONS PASSION POLKA was an electronic pop outfit founded by Steve Cottier (also in Scope, Xionics, Kinetics, Peep Show) and Keith Leary (also in Peep Show) in Liverpool, UK, presenting here four classic analogue electropop tracks from 1982/1983 in the vein of Camera Obscura, OMD or Oppenheimer Analysis, featuring the Roland TR-808 drum machine and a little armada of the usual synthesiser suspects made by ARP, Korg, Roland and Yamaha. They only released the impossible-to-find 'Obsession'/'Juliet' 7" single back in 1982 on their own Kinetic Rekords label. These tracks are now available again on Anna Logue Records' first 12" ever, remastered by Marc Senasac and with an addition of two beautiful and and previously unreleased 1983 tracks 'Lying next to You' and 'Fighting Alone' which feature Siobhan Maher (River City People, Kindred Spirit) on backing vocals. A must-have for all the aficionados of early 80's romantic electropop. 0368311 LP INNL 52 5200347770832 INNER EAR	BOKOMOLECH - MASS VULTURE Greek cult-band Bokomolech's debut LP was 'Xero' (1995 - Lazy Dog Records, an indie label from Salonica, Greece). They later signed with Hitch-Hyke and released the EP 'Insect (Songs)'. Steve Albini was impressed by their music and invited them to Chicago to work on a record together at his own well-known studios 'Electrical Audio'. The product of this collaboration was a double LP, 'Jet Lag'. Steve and Shellac fitted an extra day in their European tour that autumn, so that they could play in Athens with Bokomolech. Their next release was another EP, entitled 'Slowburner' and produced by Greek musician/producer, Coti.K. 'Exit: Trance' was recorded during the summer of 2003, once again with Steve Albini, but this time in Iain Burgess' Black Box Studio in rural France. It was their first record that got properly distributed abroad, in Portugal and Germany. According to Bokomolech, their new album 'Mass Vulture' is their most mature and complete work. They worked on it in the last two years, under their full artistic direction and production and it combines, with an even clearer idiosyncratic way, elements from all their previous works: the sensitivity and musicality of 'Xero' and 'Insect (Songs)', the homogeneity of SNP 'Jet Lag', the acoustic elegance of 'Slowburner' and the energy of 'Exit: Trance'. The lyrics are as always open to different interpretations, but this is overall the most 'political' album of Bokomolech. This is also reflected in the title of the album, which is an attempt to compress the two basic positions developed in the public discourse about the Greek 'crisis', positions that can be encoded around the dipole guilt-victimization, and together a position that combines them. 'Mass Vulture' refers more to a process (schematically, the application of 'the shock doctrine' in a society) rather than a subject. Simultaneously, however, it refers to those mechanisms of mass culture that systematically brought out (and, depending on the establishment and defense of each, imposed) a model of thinking and behavior that made the society a convenient and vulnerable target for such attacks. The Brick Keepers are a mythical marching band featuring the sublime voices of the Medieval Baebes, improvising legends Steve Noble and Alex Ward and guest appearances from Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O)))/Aethenor) and Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver/Aethenor). Ritual music is performed over a mysterious brick stack at the centre of 'Laid To Rest'. Their hysteria highlights the meticulously painstaking procedure of collecting 500 dust samples from people, places and institutions around the world. This record charts the transformation of peoples dust from the almost invisible to the palpable. Inspired by the commercialization of waste in Victorian London from the enormous dust heaps of Grays Inn Rd to the civil engineering achievements of Joseph Bazalgette's Sewage System. O'Sullivan's music responds to the process and making of 'Laid To Rest', from 'Collection' and 'Firing' through to the alchemical processes of 'Holy Dust' and the final interment of the bricks in 'Eulogy'. The two albums, released in April and August respectively, both features American musician Ron Schneiderman and both sold out immediately after release. Now reissues as double LP with new artwork. Ron Schneiderman from American impro-rock collective Sunburned Hand of the Man first got together with Danish stoner/kraut/jazz ensemble Causa Sui in December 2006 for a loose, improvised gig at the old cinema at Christiania - Copenhagen's autonomous, and notorious, free commune. A live recording of this gig was released the following year, under the curious bandname Pewt'r jjjjj, and became widely admired among fans of free-form psychedelic rock for its updated version of late 1960s/early 1970s freak-out bands such as Blue Cheer, Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel. In the early summer of 2009 Ron Schneiderman was back in Denmark, this time for a three-week stay as co-curator of the art-and-music event Festival of Endless Gratitude. During this period the group was united again for a few shows and a couple of recording sessions in Causa Sui's studio in Odense, which resulted in the Pewt'r Sessions albums. These records consists of loosely structured sun- and beerfueled jams that were later edited and mixed by Causa Sui guitar player and producer Jonas Munk. While all the psychedelic fury from the Christiania live recording is still very prevalent on these studio sessions, they also see the group channeling into new territories, such as pieces heavy on analog electronics and motoric grooves. Pewt'r Sessions 1 and 2 are albums that could only be recorded in an impulsive mode. Yet there is an alternative kind of structure taking place in almost every piece - some intuitive, almost psychic connection, which moves the sounds from one place to another. The centerpiece from these sessions, Garden of Forking Paths, gloriously sees the band fully exploring the potential of free rock, all participants working at the height of their ability, slowly jamming a gentle bass-groove into a psychedelic beast that sounds like the missing link between Electric Ladyland and Can's Tago Mago. Tracks such as Streams of Gratitude and May Sun are more delicate pieces where the group explores the hazy, sensual side of cosmic rock, while the 12 minute pulsedriven Gelassenheit sees the group paying hommage to the sound of Düsseldorf. -Ron Schneiderman has been a prime mover in the so-called new weird America movement for decades, especially as member of Sunburned Hand of the Man and as head of Spirit of Orr Records. Watching a rehearsal for the Tokyo version of the hit US musical Hair, Utchidas wily gaze fell upon the Afro-sporting cast member Yamanaka Akira, aka Joe. Utchida liked what we saw and heard so much that he invited Joe to sing guest lead vocals at the next Flowers gig, and so impressed was he with the audiences response to the singers opening number that he knew a direction-changing discovery had been made. Gone was Flowers and its place Flower Travellin' Band emerged with a whole new sound and a charismatic and talented front man leading the charge, a relentless process that would see the singer become the sound of FTB with his career ascending as the fortunes of the band decreased. Eventually the inevitable happened and Utchida disbanded FTB in 1975, after which the bands record label, Atlantic, offered the world one final, posthumous release in the greatest hits package, The Times, with the title, Joe Featuring Flower Travellin' Band becoming the bands epitaph. Sadly Joe died of cancer in August 2011, but he will long be remembered as the voice of Japans most successful and enduring musical ensembles, Flower Travellin' Band. Side 1: 1. Satori Part II 2. They later signed with Hitch-Hyke and released the EP 'Insect (Songs)'. Steve Albini was impressed by their music and invited them to Chicago to work on a record together at his own well-known studios 'Electrical Audio'. The product of this collaboration was a double LP, 'Jet Lag'. Steve and Shellac fitted an extra day in their European tour that autumn, so that they could play in Athens with Bokomolech. Their next release was another EP, entitled 'Slowburner' and produced by Greek musician/producer, Coti.K. 'Exit: Trance' was recorded during the summer of 2003, once again with Steve Albini, but this time in Iain Burgess' Black Box Studio in rural France. It was their first record that got properly distributed abroad, in Portugal and Germany. According to Bokomolech, their new album 'Mass Vulture' is their most mature and complete work. They worked on it in the last two years, under their full artistic direction and production and it combines, with an even clearer idiosyncratic way, elements from all their previous works: the sensitivity and musicality of 'Xero' and 'Insect (Songs)', the homogeneity of SNP 'Jet Lag', the acoustic elegance of 'Slowburner' and the energy of 'Exit: Trance'. The lyrics are as always open to different interpretations, but this is overall the most 'political' album of Bokomolech. This is also reflected in the title of the album, which is an attempt to compress the two basic positions developed in the public discourse about the Greek 'crisis', positions that can be encoded around the dipole guilt-victimization, and together a position that combines them. 'Mass Vulture' refers more to a process (schematically, the application of 'the shock doctrine' in a society) rather than a subject. Simultaneously, however, it refers to those mechanisms of mass culture that systematically brought out (and, depending on the establishment and defense of each, imposed) a model of thinking and behavior that made the society a convenient and vulnerable target for such attacks. The two albums, released in April and August respectively, both features American musician Ron Schneiderman and both sold out immediately after release. This is the first time this material is released on CD. Ron Schneiderman from American impro-rock collective Sunburned Hand of the Man first got together with Danish stoner/kraut/jazz ensemble Causa Sui in December 2006 for a loose, improvised gig at the old cinema at Christiania - Copenhagen's autonomous, and notorious, free commune. A live recording of this gig was released the following year, under the curious bandname Pewt'r jjjjj, and became widely admired among fans of free-form psychedelic rock for its updated version of late 1960s/early 1970s freak-out bands such as Blue Cheer, Guru Guru and Ash Ra Tempel. In the early summer of 2009 Ron Schneiderman was back in Denmark, this time for a three-week stay as co-curator of the art-and-music event Festival of Endless Gratitude. During this period the group was united again for a few shows and a couple of recording sessions in Causa Sui's studio in Odense, which resulted in the Pewt'r Sessions albums. These records consists of loosely structured sun- and beerfueled jams that were later edited and mixed by Causa Sui guitar player and producer Jonas Munk. While all the psychedelic fury from the Christiania live recording is still very prevalent on these studio sessions, they also see the group channeling into new territories, such as pieces heavy on analog electronics and motoric grooves. Pewt'r Sessions 1 and 2 are albums that could only be recorded in an impulsive mode. Yet there is an alternative kind of structure taking place in almost every piece - some intuitive, almost psychic connection, which moves the sounds from one place to another. The centerpiece from these sessions, Garden of Forking Paths, gloriously sees the band fully exploring the potential of free rock, all participants working at the height of their ability, slowly jamming a gentle bass-groove into a psychedelic beast that sounds like the missing link between Electric Ladyland and Can's Tago Mago. Tracks such as Streams of Gratitude and May Sun are more delicate pieces where the group explores the hazy, sensual side of cosmic rock, while the 12 minute pulsedriven Gelassenheit sees the group paying hommage to the sound of Düsseldorf. -Ron Schneiderman has been a prime mover in the so-called new weird America movement for decades, especially as member of Sunburned Hand of the Man and as head of Spirit of Orr Records. Crown jumped all over the latest fads and wasted no time whatsoever in proffering their $1.98 LPs at grocery stores and other retail outlets. And they often recycled recordings with updated packaging that often didnt have anything to do with what was actually on the record itself. But unlike so many other drugstore records, Jerry Cole's LPs contained some really good tracks, mostly penned by Jerry and featured many of LA's super-session players such as Leon Russell, Don Randi, Steve Douglas and Billy Preston. Jerry Cole was a space-age, soul-surfin', hot-roddin', go-goin', blues-pickin' psychedelic ranger if there ever was one and he gave it everything he had. Many people have not even been aware of these hard-to-find LPs existence and still others probably dismissed them out of hand due to the exploitation aspect and the lack of details on the covers.
