0331797 LP BWRLP 118 2090503317970 BLACK WIDOW	ANTONIUS REX - ZORA 32nd Anniversary Edition of the legendary occult prog album by Antonius Rex, with an unreleased song (Monastery) and original "nude witch" cover. Probably the most charismatic figure of all the Italian prog scene, Antonio Bartoccetti (Antonius Rex) began his career going to Milan from the Marche, forming Jacula, Dietro Noi Deserto (even with a single on Decca in 1971!), and Invisible Force (another lonely single in 1971). Not real bands but just a group of musicians working beyond the leading figures of Bartoccetti and Doris Norton (aka Fiamma Dallo Spirito). In 1974 a new name change to Antonius Rex and an album called "Neque semper arcum tendit rex" (Black Widow Records Cat. BWR 066). Despite a contact to release it on Vertigo, the label considered it to be too outrageous, with the black and white cover reproducing a 17th century "diabolic" letter and strong lyrics, especially in the Devil letter track. The album was planned for release on drummer Albert Goodman's Darkness label, but it never went over a promo issue. So the first real commercially released Antonius Rex album is Zora from 1977, on the small Tickle label and, again, with an outrageous cover that was replaced with a different one a year later. Zora includes a reworking of a Jacula's Tardo pede in magiam versus track (Morte al potere is a third revised version of U.F.D.E.M.); their main elements are as usual church organ, dark atmospheres, lyrics dealing with occultism. This is raw, brutal Venom worship packed with riffy goodness backed up by barbaric drumwork and croaking, horrific vocals that are not totally unintelligible. Smashing bits of hellish fun hug out the kind of riffs Hellhammer used to crush back before they got all arty. Cauldron Black Ram may have a weird name, but they crank out the sort of heavy pure evil that reminds me of why underground metal is always the best. Each LP is hand numbered, and contains two art prints by Giuseppe Chiari. The CD is hand-numbered and signed by Daniele Lombardi. The total selling copies of the bundle edition are limited to 130. Giuseppe Chiari was one of the leading names associated first with Fluxus (being the only Italian member of the interdisciplinary art group since 1962) and later with Conceptual and Performance Art as well as Sound art. Coming from a background of different disciplines, he established new theoretical and practical standpoints in relation to music and art: his approach was always irreverent, walking the tightrope between to do or not to do, to say or not to say, while continually challenging the limits of language. The Die Schachtel vinyl LP (titled +/-) feature some of his previously unreleased and most intense pieces for piano, the musical instrument par excellence and emblem of conformist sound with which Giuseppe Chiari has a love-hate relationship, bestowing on it equal measures of ridicule and praise. It is also an amazing document of his last concert, with Frederic Rzewski (playing the 1964 groundbreaking piece "La Strada"), Giancarlo Cardini, Daniele Lombardi and Giuseppe Chiari himself. The limited CD edition by Daniele Lombardi, published in the occasion of his solo exhibition at Mudima Foundation in Milan, is the reissue of a 1978 piano sound exploration based upon a map of sky constellation, planned as the first step of a large work focused on the exposition and 'performance' of constellations maps, planetaria and maps of the heavens. It is a perfect counterpoint to the Chiari Edition, and it is hosted in a custom-made, silkscreened natural cardboard case, inserted in the fold out cover together with the LP. Two bands were at the forefront of this movement: Om and Jarka. The later being the brainchild of Jordi Sabatés, one of the most talented pianists/keyboardists in the Catalan scene. A generation younger than the great late Tete Montoliu, with whom he also recorded, he found fame on the teenage pop charts of the late sixties with the outfit Pic-Nic, where he joined forces with Toti Soler and Doro Montaberry. After the split of Pic-Nic, he collaborated Hammond organ in Om, when the band was acting as a backing group on the recordings of the top Catalan artists, most notably Pau Riba whom they backed in his masterpiece debut LP Dioptria. In 1971, Sabatés started his own band, together with bassist Alfonso de Lucas and drummer Pedro Van Eeckout (ex Pan Y Regaliz). This was the line-up that went to record their debut LP, Ortodòxia, on the famed Estudis Gema in March 1971. Housed in a wonderful black & white sleeve courtesy of Guillem Paris (leading force behind Pan Y Regaliz), the record was a solid slice of psychedelic jazz-rock and featured contributions from some of the best musicians from the Barcelona scene: Toti Soler, J. During all their early work, the band benefited from the organ playing of one of the most talented catalan pianists, Jordi Sabatés (of Ocells del més enllà fame) as well as the musical talents of two English brothers: drummer Peter Hodgkinson and his brother Tim on sax and keys (this is, of course, the same Tim Hodgkinson who founded Henry Cow, together with Fred Frith). By the time they released their LP on Edigsa in 1971, Om was already an experienced band, with important studio work on their back and countless gigs, having backed American blues-man Taj Mahal in his Madrid 1969 concerts. One particularity of Om was that, rather than having an established line-up, they worked as a musical concept where it was not so important the individuals playing as it was the resulting sound. Their only LP shows how, through the works of Miles Davies, Gary Burton and John McLaughlin, they had developed their sound from its original psych/folk-rock beginnings to an intensely psychedelic jazz rock fussion. Also featured are tracks by big names on the Nigerian scene - Eric Akaeze, Bongos Ikwue & Segun Bucknor as well as a Victor Uwaifo produced cut by previously unknown artist Andrew "Madman" Jaga. 0340504 3xCD AMSCD 154 AMS	ANALOGY - COMPLETE WORKS (3CD BOX) This exclusive deluxe - limited to 500 copies - boxset features ALL songs recorded by Analogy-Earthbound over the last 40 years, including lots of material never issued on cd, and even some completely unreleased tracks. 38 tracks! The box includes a huge book with many unreleased picture and an extensive band history in English, German and Italian. All vintage songs have been carefully remasterd. Analogy is a very rare and expensive album, pressed in around 1000 copies. It had a delicate single cover made of thin cardboard, and some copies were wrapped in a giant poster with a foot (pictured also on the back cover, this was in fact an ashtray!), folded in six parts, to hide the naked bodies. The original picture used for the LP had the six members of Yoice, but at the time of its release Mauro Rattaggi has left the group, so he was hidden under a blue stripe printed on the cover. The Akarma reissue has a retouched picture of the five Analogy members without the blue stripe which has been added to the record like the Japanese albums' obi's. The album was reissued for the first time in Germany by Ohrwaschl, with a cover identical to the original and a different poster (with the five musicians naked), and later by Akarma, with a reworked gatefold cover. The CD reissue by Garden of Delights issued in 2001 contains an unreleased extra track, Milan on a sunday morning. The CD The suite was issued in Germany in 1993 by Ohrwaschl, and later in 10-inch form by Akarma in 2000 with a different cover design. Even the single by Yoice is rare. The track Sold out also appears on a promo single backed with a song by Terza Classe. The song God's own land also appears on a promotional single, but under the name Eternity, on the other side the German group Ihre Kinder. Eternity was the name of the old band of Wolfgang Schoene, and was chosen by the record company for this promo single. The Earthbound single is rather rare, having been issued in 2000 copies each for both the 7-inch and 12-inch versions, the latter has an extra track. The 12" version has a laminated cover and an insert. Probably the most charismatic figure of all the Italian prog scene, Antonio Bartoccetti (Antonius Rex) began his career going to Milan from the Marche, forming Jacula, Dietro Noi Deserto (even with a single on Decca in 1971!), and Invisible Force (another lonely single in 1971). Not real bands but just a group of musicians working beyond the leading figures of Bartoccetti and Doris Norton (aka Fiamma Dallo Spirito). In 1974 a new name change to Antonius Rex and an album called "Neque semper arcum tendit rex" (Black Widow Records Cat. BWR 066). Despite a contact to release it on Vertigo, the label considered it to be too outrageous, with the black and white cover reproducing a 17th century "diabolic" letter and strong lyrics, especially in the Devil letter track. The album was planned for release on drummer Albert Goodman's Darkness label, but it never went over a promo issue. So the first real commercially released Antonius Rex album is Zora from 1977, on the small Tickle label and, again, with an outrageous cover that was replaced with a different one a year later. Zora includes a reworking of a Jacula's Tardo pede in magiam versus track (Morte al potere is a third revised version of U.F.D.E.M.); their main elements are as usual church organ, dark atmospheres, lyrics dealing with occultism. Oscillating in filigree nuances, the modulation of a drone that seems to last an eternity alone indicates that the sense of real time has been canceled-while, at the same time, another acoustic track surfaces like a distant memory, only to disappear again. A universe of sound particles spreads out, in which the sounds provide no references to a possible location. What the ear might consider to be the crunching sound of snow crusts, the deep droning of ice breaking, the scraping of migrating glaciers is often merely an acoustic hallucination, while actually the sounds have been composed using the finest of sound particles, which Archetti's ear has taken from completely different sources, such as the hum of generators, or the white noise of a blank video tape being played, or drone sounds created with the E-bow, which he extracts from his electric guitar (often with scordatura tuning). An intermediate realm is created in which acoustic sedimentations are layered into a sound tapestry so dense that it feels like there is almost no air left to breathe or to hear with anymore. But it also draws one in like an invitation to journey further into unexplored regions, a journey through timeless and spare acoustic events with a rivetingly hypnotic effect. The M Squared label operated in Sydney, Australia from 1980 to 1983.When Mitch Jones and Michael Tee gathered a motley assortment ofrecording equipment in a tiny Surry Hills terrace on Boxing Day 1979,they managed to produce three big ideas. The first was Scattered Order,more a sound experiment than a band. The second was a recording studio,with cheap access for people like themselves. Its income would help tofinance their final idea: a record label with an intriguing catalogue, run with uncustomarytransparency and with no agenda to shape or classify the material it might release. Quickly joined by Patrick Gibson, whose Systematics project was the first to come into the studio,the label rapidly established a following. With an output of 24 vinyl and 7 cassette releases overthree hectic years, M Squared also managed to promote live performances and build up some healthy interest in Europe and the US college radio network.Though methods of manufacture, promotion and distribution were more cumbersome then, M Squared advantageously came into being at the same time as a brief musical zeitgeist in Sydney's inner city. The scene was low key but full of fizz, producing a great variety of sounds and a certain 'underdog' camaraderie.
