ANTONIUS REX - ZORA
32nd Anniversary Edition of the legendary occult prog album by Antonius Rex, with an unreleased song (Monastery) and original "nude witch" cover. Probably the most charismatic figure of all the Italian prog scene, Antonio Bartoccetti (Antonius Rex) began his career going to Milan from the Marche, forming Jacula, Dietro Noi Deserto (even with a single on Decca in 1971!), and Invisible Force (another lonely single in 1971). Not real bands but just a group of musicians working beyond the leading figures of Bartoccetti and Doris Norton (aka Fiamma Dallo Spirito). In 1974 a new name change to Antonius Rex and an album called "Neque semper arcum tendit rex" (Black Widow Records Cat. BWR 066). Despite a contact to release it on Vertigo, the label considered it to be too outrageous, with the black and white cover reproducing a 17th century "diabolic" letter and strong lyrics, especially in the Devil letter track. The album was planned for release on drummer Albert Goodman's Darkness label, but it never went over a promo issue. So the first real commercially released Antonius Rex album is Zora from 1977, on the small Tickle label and, again, with an outrageous cover that was replaced with a different one a year later. Zora includes a reworking of a Jacula's Tardo pede in magiam versus track (Morte al potere is a third revised version of U.F.D.E.M.); their main elements are as usual church organ, dark atmospheres, lyrics dealing with occultism. Originally album has four tracks and "Gnome" bonus track was presented in the later issue with different cover in 1978...now this renewed version with the original artwork includes new photos, an unreleased track. |

DAVEY, ALAN - ECLECTIC DEVILS (+7")
"Eclectic Devils" is more rockier than usual, but still has the right amount of experimentation to know its Alan's own brand rock music! It features the fabulous Simon House, (ex hawkwind/David Bowie violinist/keyboard player!) on violin, organ and mellotron. Isobel Morris provides her usual haunting vocals and wrote the lyrics for the song "Encounter". She also wrote the lyrics and sang on 2 songs on Alan's previous album "Human on the Outside". On the song "Too High", Louis Davey (Alan's nephew or his son maybe, heehee!!) does lead guitar and Xoo bass and keysman James Hodkinson plays organ and twists out FX on it too!! Old style special FX come curtesy of Josh Dreamspirit who provides audio generators on "Angel Down", Waste of Time" and "Alien Veto". And last but by no means least, founder Gunslinger member, song writer and lyricist/word smith extraordinaire Nigel Potter performs alien-esque vocal FX without the use of any FX on opening song "Angel Down". 2 unreleased songs not included in the CD version! |

GOBLIN - SUSPIRIA (SPECIAL GIMMICK EDITION)
Probably the most scary soundtrack Goblin has ever written (don't listen at it when the lights are down!), apparently it seems that the score was composed before the film was ready, so that director Dario Argento had to make some changes to the movie script, in order to have the music perfectly suited!! This legendary soundtrack combines elements of music and sound scary effects going far beyond traditional background scoring, becoming an integral part of the film. As critics say nowadays, SUSPIRIA music "is so perfectly integrated into the film, fares less well as a stand-alone item. All that pounding, howling, thumbing, and wheezing is enough to send chills down your spine even without the movie images (it is the perfect imaginary soundtrack), but not all of it could be called a pleasant listening experience (unless your idea of pleasant is having your nerves set on edge)." The original Suspiria vinyl record album featured two sleeves. When removed from the outer sleeve, the inner sleeve unfolded to reveal a pop-up of Dario Argento's initials, decorated with the demonic Goblin logo and the dead ballerina poster art from SUSPIRIA. The inner sleeve featured a black-and-white photo of Argento working with Goblin in the recording studio, plus several color photos from the film, including behind the scenes images of Argento on set. This reissue features the same pop-up system, although inverted: this time the outer sleeve will reveal its astounding secret as it was intended in the original project! So this one is even better than the original. Of course the LP is the usual AMS heavy 180g high quality audiophile vinyl! |

IA-BATISTE - UN GRAN DIA (+7")
Key duo from the catalan folk rock scene, joint venture of Ia Clua (from Dos + Un) and Jordi Batiste (one of the leading forces of Maquina!), after the later ones return from military service. Un Gran Dia, the duo's first album, was recorded at the end of 1972 with the help of such outstanding musicians as Manel Joseph (ex Dos + Un, Ia's early band), Joaquin "Max" Suner (Vértice, Tapiman, Iceberg a.o.) & Albert Batiste (Musica Dispersa). The result is an amazing & varied musical tapestry, best heard on the record's first side, a long suite covering from orchestral folk-pop with some psych leanings ("Un Gran Dia", "Max") to straight in-your-face hard rock ("Sleeping Rock") via typical early 70s prog ("Oliba") and uncategorisable experiments which defy all known rules ("Reprise"). Sung both in Catalan and English, this album is a fine example of the craziness and experimentation achieved by the Catalan bands in the early 70s. A piece of wax which went totally unnoticed when first released in a tiny pressing back in the days (thus becoming a big ticket item in the collectors market). Strictly limited to 500 copies. High quality gatefold sleeves reproducing the original artwork from 1972's first press on Diabolo. Includes insert with liner notes by Fermi Puig. Comes with additional promotional poster and a bonus 7" EP in full color P/S containing five amazing unreleased demo versions of some of the best tracks on the album - do not miss it! |

JARKA - MORGUE O BERENICE
Originally released by Edigsa in 1972, the sophomore album by this great outfit led by Jordi Sabatés (Ocells del més enllà) took their jazz rock fusion sound one step further, diving deeper into the realms of seventies intrumental jazz. Recorded in the Gema and Odeon studios during spring 1972, featured a new Jarka line up: Sabatés himself on keys, Alfonso De Lucas on (bass) plus guitarist Daniel Somoza and drummer Tom Furgal, both from New York, where thay had played with Chick Corea, Michael Gibbs a.o. Great electrified seventies jazz-rock sounds! Jordi Sabatés has been one of the most prolific artists from Catalunya and his solo carrer after Jarka has gained him a wide reputation amongst collectors and music lovers, mainly because of his 1975 LP Ocells del més enllà, but also to his other great albums of the era. The sound roots of what he became later are clearly heard in Jarka. Strictly limited to 500 copies. High quality gatefold sleeves reproducing the original artwork from 1972's first press on Edigsa. JARKA - ORTODOXIA (+7")
At the dawn of the seventies Barcelona's underground scene veered towards a jazz oriented fusion sound with echoes of Gary Burton, Miles Davis and John McLaughlin. Two bands were at the forefront of this movement: Om and Jarka. The later being the brainchild of Jordi Sabatés, one of the most talented pianists/keyboardists in the Catalan scene. A generation younger than the great late Tete Montoliu, with whom he also recorded, he found fame on the teenage pop charts of the late sixties with the outfit Pic-Nic, where he joined forces with Toti Soler and Doro Montaberry. After the split of Pic-Nic, he collaborated Hammond organ in Om, when the band was acting as a backing group on the recordings of the top Catalan artists, most notably Pau Riba whom they backed in his masterpiece debut LP Dioptria. In 1971, Sabatés started his own band, together with bassist Alfonso de Lucas and drummer Pedro Van Eeckout (ex Pan Y Regaliz). This was the line-up that went to record their debut LP, Ortodòxia, on the famed Estudis Gema in March 1971. Housed in a wonderful black & white sleeve courtesy of Guillem Paris (leading force behind Pan Y Regaliz), the record was a solid slice of psychedelic jazz-rock and featured contributions from some of the best musicians from the Barcelona scene: Toti Soler, J. Albert Amargos, Doro Montaberry and Ricard Sabatés. Hardly known outside Spain, this is classic album that ranks amongst the best from the European underground of early 1970s. Jordi Sabatés has been one of the most prolific artists from Catalunya and his solo career after Jarka has gained him a wide reputation amongst collectors, mainly thanks to his 1975 LP Ocells del més enllà, but also to his other great albums of the era. The sound roots of what he became later are clearly heard in Jarka. Strictly limited to 500 copies. High quality gatefold sleeves reproducing the original artwork from 1971's first press on Edigsa. Includes insert with extra liner notes by Wah Wah's Marc Argenter helped by Fermi Puig. Bonus 7" single by Jordi Sabatés & Om reproducing with the songs 'Another Me, Another You' y 'Retorn a...' in its colour picture sleeve. A legend amongst Spanish collectors, this single was originally withdrawn at the time and only the sleeves made it to the production process (so no records were ever pressed...Until now!). |

MAXOPHONE - MAXOPHONE
Maxophone, from Milan, formed in 1973 as a six-piece with an unusual assortment of instruments, due to their past experience as music students. A band of great talents and musicianship, their only LP, released in 1975, came too late to compete with the most important Italian bands of the genre and went sadly unnoticed. Maxophone, released on the Produttori Associati label (along with Duello Madre one of the few ventures in rock records by this label) is a marvellous album, full of dreamy atmospheres and complex horn arrangements, with good vocal parts in a Genesis style and is nowadays considered as one of the best Italian prog records of all times. OM (SPAIN) - OM (+7")
Om -led by superb Catalan guitarist Jordi Toti Soler after his previous band Pic-Nic split- were one of the most interesting outfits to ever come out from Barcelona. Starting in 1968, their first recordings were done as a backing group for other artists like folk-singer Maria del Mar Bonet or american hippie Joe Skladzien, but most notably Pau Riba whom they backed on his debut LP the legendary Dioptria, one of the finest pieces of European psych ever. During all their early work, the band benefited from the organ playing of one of the most talented catalan pianists, Jordi Sabatés (of Ocells del més enllà fame) as well as the musical talents of two English brothers: drummer Peter Hodgkinson and his brother Tim on sax and keys (this is, of course, the same Tim Hodgkinson who founded Henry Cow, together with Fred Frith). By the time they released their LP on Edigsa in 1971, Om was already an experienced band, with important studio work on their back and countless gigs, having backed American blues-man Taj Mahal in his Madrid 1969 concerts. One particularity of Om was that, rather than having an established line-up, they worked as a musical concept where it was not so important the individuals playing as it was the resulting sound. Their only LP shows how, through the works of Miles Davies, Gary Burton and John McLaughlin, they had developed their sound from its original psych/folk-rock beginnings to an intensely psychedelic jazz rock fussion. A classic album that is hardly known outside Spain and ranks amongst the best of the era, sharing shoulders with similar underground European experiments by Min Bul, Colhemec Ensemble, Xhol, Dharma Quintet, Sunbirds, Full Moon Ensemble or the more progressive output of the British jazz of the era: John Surmans Trio, Nucleus or Michael Gibbs. Strictly limited to 500 copies. High quality gatefold sleeves reproducing the beautiful Tony Cepuka's original psychedelic artwork from 1971's first press on Edigsa. Insert with liner notes by Wah Wah's Marc Argenter and Fermi Puig. Includes also repro of big Om poster (coming originally with the first copies of the LP). Bonus 7" single reproducing Om's single with non-LP tracks 'Vindrà La Llum' / 'Waiting For Godot' (actually the only one released under their own name and not as a backing band). |

COOPER, JOHN & PHILIPA - COOPERVILLE TIMES
Spooky psychedelic folk rock (1969) featuring the unmistakable guitar sounds of Julian Laxton (Freedoms Children). Unquestionably one of the rarest South African albums ever: folk tinged psychedelia, featuring the whimsical vocals of John & Philipa Cooper with guitar by Julian Laxton, which has been hailed by collectors worldwide as comparable to the legendary Mellow Candle or early Jefferson Airplane. Brother/sister John & Philipa Cooper went to Britain shortly after the album was made, and there the story ends. Even so, this amazing album is considered in the same class as those by Billy Nichols, Duncan Browne and Blossom Toes. Well composed underground songs, folk rock, effects-an album full of ideas and masterfully played... it just has the right feel, with the combination of great songs and a '60s art-vibe. Formed in early 2006 by Chad Davis (ex-Demoncy, Father Befouled, Profane Grace) Hour Of 13 set out on a path of obscure and dark Heavy/Doom Metal. Joined by Phil Swanson (Vestal Claret, Upwards Of Endtime, Seamount) in 2007, the debut album was recorded and unleashed to great acclaim. Mixing elements of traditional Doom & Heavy Metal, Hour Of 13 have crafted a sound well deserved unto them. Phil Swansons lyrics, dealing with the occult, black magic, satanism and evil in general add tothe obscure image of the band and go well with their traditional sound, creating a nostalgic aura and reminding the listener of the early 80s and bands such as Pagan Altar, Ritual and old Mercyful Fate. |

SNOG - LAST OF THE GREAT ROMANTICS
Recorded over 2008/2009 in Melbourne, Berlin and Prague, Snog's 'Last Of The Great Romantics' is truly a landmark album. Like Radiohead's 'OK Computer' and Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' (to both of which it has already been compared) 'Last Of The Great Romantics' sees a beloved band at their conceptual and creative peak. from the blazing space-rock-ballad of opening track 'Were All In This Together' to the languid moog-boogie of 'The End Of The World' to the disco-metal pyrotechnics of 'Wargasm' Snog forge their own path and their own sound, bold, uncompromising and just a little bent. Recorded entirely in analogue facilities using a vast collection of vintage studio equipment with special guests including John Justin Stewart (Grace Jones), Neil Boyack (Angler), the City of Prague Philharmonic Choir and produced by the Calculators (The Faint, Schneider TM) 'Last Of The Great Romantics' is a lush, sincere masterpiece. Packaging: deluxe 4-panel gatefold-sleeve in matt cardboard & 16-page booklet. |

SOMATIC RESPONSES - NEON
John and Paul Healy a.k.a. Somatic Responses are aurally focussed on complex dislocated & broken beats, distorted intelligent constructions, fascinating sonic structures, force and sweetness enlaced. Their early productions' main focus were on hardcore and techno, later on they expanded the musical regions up to electro, dubstep, and even breakcore territories. As a diligent confluence of these styles, 'Neon' is a dark, claiming caleidoscope of state-of-the-art electronic sound mastery. Dubstep beats are combined with dark ambience and manipulated voice samples. Fast, heavy breakbeats are mixed with distorted synth lines creating an industrial music flair. Drum and bass meets electro sequences. Pulsating subbasses and acherontic synth lines induce a multitude of moods between aggression, disarray and melancholy...This album show how these icons of the challenging electronic scene are still able to open their ears and tap fresh ideas from today's music sensbilities. |

VARIOUS - NIGERIA AFROBEAT SPECIAL (3LP)
"The New Explosive Sound in 1970s Nigeria". Nigeria Afrobeat Special is the fourth addition to the Nigeria Special series, a project initiated by Miles Cleret, owner of the Soundway Record label back in 2004. Focusing on the big band sound dominated by wailing saxophones, brass solos and relentless poly-rhythmic grooves, Nigeria Afrobeat Special delivers a no-nonsense collection of tracks that (bar one) have NEVER been re-issued outside of Nigeria. It was Fela Kuti and his musical and political ideals that formed the core of afrobeat's message. Fela's highly sought after version of 'Who're you' lends this set it's lead. Originally released on 7" in 1971, It would later be re-recorded at Abbey Road for his album Fela's London Scene and here is re-issued for the first time ever. The collection features Fela's rival and fellow afrobeat veteran Orlando Julius, represented by the track 'Afro-Blues' - amazing that this has previously managed to escape re-issue. Also featured are tracks by big names on the Nigerian scene - Eric Akaeze, Bongos Ikwue & Segun Bucknor as well as a Victor Uwaifo produced cut by previously unknown artist Andrew "Madman" Jaga. The album also features a cut featuring Pax Nicholas, a singer whose album Na Teef Know De Road Of Teef has recently been made available after 30 years. Cleret's ambition is to distinguish the blossoming music scenes of 1970's. Nigeria has lent to an indispensable series of CD and LP compilations documenting the influence of western blues, rock and disco amongst artists and musicians versed in the local musical styles of highlife and juju. Tracks: Side 1: 1. Fela & The Africa 70 - Who're you? (Original 45 Version) (08:42) 2. Bongos Ikwue & The Groovies - Otachikpopo (08:38) Side 2: 1.
