(33 1/3rpm): Comprised of three different versions of future "Reg King" album tracks (*) from pre-album sessions in the Summer of 1969. Some of these are quite radically different to their released counterparts, and, importantly, are different again to anything on our expanded album release! A fascinating look at how the tracks evolved. In addition, there are three completely unknown/unreleased original tracks (+), which we feel warrant description: ·The rousing, upbeat "Merry Go Round" has shades of late period Beatles, and is probably a song that Noel Gallagher would love to have written! .Gentle and sensitive, "Magenta" builds from a tender beginning to a pure emotional climax. "So Full of Love" has a subtle eastern/psychedelic feel, but also modern jazz chording and arrangement. It has an air of The Action's "Rolled Gold" album about it. These three tracks in particular, are a revelation, and prove beyond doubt, Reg's versatility and gifts as a songwriter as you've never heard before. These tracks will only appear on Vinyl the once, on this 10" record, so we recommend 'Vinyl Freaks' to pick it up soon! 0306784 LP CPWL 108 5039297000030 CIRCLE RECORDS	BREAKTHRU - ADVENTURES HIGHWAY (+7") Only known for the one single in 1968 "Ice Cream Tree" /"Julius Caesar" on Mercury, (and largely misunderstood from this to be a pop act), Birminghams Breakthru were in fact one of the loudest, hairiest and most exciting psychedelic rock bands of their time. However, they could create soulful, sensitive or just plain catchy sounds too. Young and very fashionable, many audiences had seen nothing like them. They took their wild stage show, complete with smoke and lights, all over Great Britain: Playing many of Londons most important clubs of the day in the process, such as "Happening 44", "The Electric Garden", "Blaises" and "The Marquee". They also were resident at a club in Switzerland for a time, and made a big impression at Plumptons 1969 "National Jazz and Blues Festival". This is their first complete album, and gathers together all their surviving recordings. Despite the sole single release, the band recorded much material from 1967 to 1970. Included here are their cancelled second Mercury 45 "Peer Gynt"/"Troubleshoot", alongside 14 other unreleased titles, and two which only made a brief appearance on a contemporary compilation. The album C.D. runs for over 50 minutes, and has been put together to show the band as the ex-members would like best to be remembered. The E.P. disc contains their single release, alongside three of their earliest/more pop-orientated numbers. Together, these show the bands musical range in full. This is a 600 press with glossy color psychedelic cover and photos of the band on the back. The album contains all original songs and is mostly psychedelic with a couple progressive instrumental cuts, 11 songs in all. The band features a great singer and future guitar legend Rick Iannaconne, who later made a big name for himself in the world of jazz, playing with Coltrane, Miles Davis etc. The recording came from the bands' original tapes and sounds very good. Songs include "High on a Happy", "Walk on Mister", and the classic "Dit Dewey Man", which is psychy, funky and flat out cool! The original test presses have been a coveted collectors item for a long time fetching hundreds of dollars making this reissue an instant classic. Mushroom Palace is Dreu Ferguson Sr. and Brian Hullit's collaboration into the psychedelic folk blues dimension. Hulitts words and Fergusons guitar establish the album from the beginning with title cut "Mushroom Palace", a drug lyric upbeat rocker complete with laughter, subtle background effects and strangeness, followed by the 60's sound of "The Essence" which is a psychedelic chant put to music complete with whispers, druggy references, 60's guitar etc.Then comes the killer electric guitar cut "Maelstrom" with great lyric and guitar playing. As the album evolves into more of a folk blues direction, great cuts "Without a Face" and "History Following Me" stand out. The humorous rocker "Bad Weather Mama" is also a fun spot. There is a Dylan esque cut "If I Disappeared Today" and spoken word cut "Words of Whispers" complete with a tape loop and backwards guitar! Not too forget the 60's pop sound of "Price of Love"(Hey is this an old Monkee?) and the drug chant "Painting", Mushroom Palace" is an ambitious effort qualifying for inclusion in several genres. A two man effort, the album has a private underground feel to it throughout which contributes to it's charm. Lyrically fantastic, Hulitt exorcizes demons of drugs,the bottle, women and death,culminating in the hopeful and beautiful "Even If". Ferguson's guitar playing is on target throughout with a nice touch of the throbbing wahwah on "Easy Prey To Time" and dobro on "History Following Me". There's the hint of a gentle electric guitar in there too, but its those intricate, ethereal vocal harmonies that draw the listener. A primeval monster of sound as wild and brutish as a young underground band could possibly be. "Inner Seasons" is the name of the first LP by the Balkan rockers. 5 tracks packed in forty minutes. A monument of the finest "blues-driven sludgerock-amped stonervibes with a psychedelic hairline" carved in stone. This Zagreb, Croatia-based band's blend of heavy blues rock and psychedelic-tinged doom is damn near note perfect on tracks like "The Amazing Voyagers," "To Follow," and prerequisite super long closing track "Drag and Drop," thanks to some great vocals that prove you can soar while getting down and dirty. It's not 100% (for all of its blustery energy, "Mr Plow Is Growing Hop" drags towards the end), but Stonebride's still strong enough to come across as the missing link between Acid King and Dozer. The album was mixed and mastered by Billy Anderson, who has already worked together with Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep, Fantomas, High on Fire, Acid Kings or Los Natas. Numbered copies. 0328844 LP VIIMALP 2 6430024260038 VIIMA RECORDS	VIIMA - KAHDEN KUUN SIRPIT Now also available as limited vinyl version. 2nd and follow up album to the highly acclaimed debut 'Ajatuksia Maailman Laidalta' by Finnish PROGRESSIVE rock band that's rooted in all that's progressive from the early 70's. "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents") is the first full-lenght album of the current, now 3-year old Viima line-up. Transition from female to male singer has considerably affected the bands new sound. The same applies to the flute and the soprano sax played by the new frontman. Viima, which rehearses in Turku, Finland, has five members and two them are professional musicians. Compositions of the Finnish-singing Viima contain large instrumental parts (one of the tracks is entirely instrumental), but the lyrics also play an important role. Part of the texts are Finnish poetry from the early 20th century, the rest of them are rock lyrics of today. The guitarist and the original member, Mikko Uusi-Oukari, and the new members vocalist Hannu Hiltula and drummer Mikko Väärälä have composed all the tracks for the album. The keyboard player Kimmo Lähteenmki, who wrote several tracks for the first album, was busy with his studies and could not participate in composing. Aapo Honkanen, member since 2005, plays the bass guitar. The title track of the spacious sounding album, "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents"), combines the history of the city of Turku with story of the characters life in the city and in the archipelago. The title refers to the way the story handles and modifies the truth. Part of the text is based on reality and the rest reflects it in its own way. On the other hand the name also refers to a perfect moment by the warm and calm sea when the moon is shining and is reflected from the glassy sea. Viima's musical style can be defined as 70s-influenced symphonic folk-prog. No heavy guitar walls can be heard. Instead the sound world is enriched with a violin quartet and nature sounds. The band has also used some original keyboards, like the Mellotron, Rhodes-piano, Hammond-organ and analog synthesizers. The recording of "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" took two years. The reason for the long period is mainly due to scheduling. The recordings were interrupted by the bands other projects, like participation to concept and tribute albums ("Kalevala", "Inferno" ja "Tuonen Tytär II" by Colossus/Musea Records), and in general the so-called real life, work etc. The album was recorded in parts, but the majority has been recorded between June-November 2008. However, they could create soulful, sensitive or just plain catchy sounds too. Young and very fashionable, many audiences had seen nothing like them. They took their wild stage show, complete with smoke and lights, all over Great Britain: Playing many of Londons most important clubs of the day in the process, such as "Happening 44", "The Electric Garden", "Blaises" and "The Marquee". They also were resident at a club in Switzerland for a time, and made a big impression at Plumptons 1969 "National Jazz and Blues Festival". This is their first complete album, and gathers together all their surviving recordings. Despite the sole single release, the band recorded much material from 1967 to 1970. Included here are their cancelled second Mercury 45 "Peer Gynt"/"Troubleshoot", alongside 14 other unreleased titles, and two which only made a brief appearance on a contemporary compilation. The album C.D. runs for over 50 minutes, and has been put together to show the band as the ex-members would like best to be remembered. This Zagreb, Croatia-based band's blend of heavy blues rock and psychedelic-tinged doom is damn near note perfect on tracks like "The Amazing Voyagers," "To Follow," and prerequisite super long closing track "Drag and Drop," thanks to some great vocals that prove you can soar while getting down and dirty. It's not 100% (for all of its blustery energy, "Mr Plow Is Growing Hop" drags towards the end), but Stonebride's still strong enough to come across as the missing link between Acid King and Dozer. The album was mixed and mastered by Billy Anderson, who has already worked together with Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep, Fantomas, High on Fire, Acid Kings or Los Natas. "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents") is the first full-lenght album of the current, now 3-year old Viima line-up. Transition from female to male singer has considerably affected the bands new sound. The same applies to the flute and the soprano sax played by the new frontman. Viima, which rehearses in Turku, Finland, has five members and two them are professional musicians. Compositions of the Finnish-singing Viima contain large instrumental parts (one of the tracks is entirely instrumental), but the lyrics also play an important role. Part of the texts are Finnish poetry from the early 20th century, the rest of them are rock lyrics of today. The guitarist and the original member, Mikko Uusi-Oukari, and the new members vocalist Hannu Hiltula and drummer Mikko Väärälä have composed all the tracks for the album. The keyboard player Kimmo Lähteenmki, who wrote several tracks for the first album, was busy with his studies and could not participate in composing. Aapo Honkanen, member since 2005, plays the bass guitar. The title track of the spacious sounding album, "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents"), combines the history of the city of Turku with story of the characters life in the city and in the archipelago. The title refers to the way the story handles and modifies the truth. Part of the text is based on reality and the rest reflects it in its own way. On the other hand the name also refers to a perfect moment by the warm and calm sea when the moon is shining and is reflected from the glassy sea. Viima's musical style can be defined as 70s-influenced symphonic folk-prog. No heavy guitar walls can be heard. Instead the sound world is enriched with a violin quartet and nature sounds. The band has also used some original keyboards, like the Mellotron, Rhodes-piano, Hammond-organ and analog synthesizers. The recording of "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" took two years. The reason for the long period is mainly due to scheduling. The recordings were interrupted by the bands other projects, like participation to concept and tribute albums ("Kalevala", "Inferno" ja "Tuonen Tytär II" by Colossus/Musea Records), and in general the so-called real life, work etc. The album was recorded in parts, but the majority has been recorded between June-November 2008. From its inauguration as an exclusive and elitist clique centered in London and its immediate suburbs, the mod movement had by the early 60's germinated to a point where British groups were flourishing to entertain its growing legions. The mods' original musical palette oozed black soul and rhythm and blues and since in the less cosmopolitan world of the time its perpetrators rarely ventured beyond their home base of the U.S.A, a blossoming of indigenous talent to sate the demand for live R&B and soul was inevitable. The mod riots, 'Ready Steady Go' and the emergence of Tamla Motown as a commercially successful force exasperated the phenomenon and expanded mod into a national and indeed mercantile culture, which ignited a further engendering of mod or mod styled groups. Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Chris Farlowe and the Thunderbirds and Long John Baldry's Hoochie Coochie Men to name but a few had paved the way but in 1965, a genus of more visually appealing bands had or were achieving a profile. Despite their mostly manufactured mod image the Who were the movement's most distinctive standard bearers but from the ranks of mod itself there emerged two bands in particular who for many of their own and subsequent generations, defined and epitomized the British mod group - The Small Faces and The Action. The recordings: Five are T.V./Radio/Live versions of Action single (+ one from "Rolled Gold" era) tracks. Another five are totally unreleased, and appear here for the first time ever on any record! The C.D. version will be a double set: The first C.D. will contain all the material on the vinyl version. This was the second and by far the best record she ever made. Why 'truth in my tears' was never a hit is anyone's guess, to my mind it is musical perfection. 18. Heidi Bruhl Better known for her German pop music and film work than this awesome release on UK Philips rumoured not to have been released in her native country. This sounds like it could have been from a film soundtrack with the excellent production work and song title. The track itself is one of the best discoveries I heard in recent years and fits perfectly with the lady's above effort which was also recorded just a 66 releases later for the very same label just a few months apart. 19. Paul Nicholas Started life with Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages playing organ before teaming up with the Reaction label and Robert Stigwood productions. His first solo release was in 1966 as Paul Dean 'with she can build a mountain' before switching names again to Oscar for four singles on Reaction label including the excellent Mod club fave 'club of lights'. One single on the Polydor label in 68 with the same name, before changing again to Paul Nicholas. In 1969 his theatre musical career started with star roles in 'Hair' and later 'Jesus Christ superstar' before going onto become a household name on your TV screen in 'Just good friends'. 'Run shaker life' is the B-side of his 1970's single. 20. M.U.5 Named,we think, after the World biggest computer at that time. We have no information on this band who released this single on Crystal in 1972. Blue eyed soul with fuzz guitar and a sound production that would have common place some five years before. Earlier this year he released the "Minilab" 12"/7" combo on Anna-logue records and now we present you 3 new born tracks. Again the Clogsontronics double media format was used. The 7" vinyl EP is accompanied by a mini CD containing the same tracks. To emphasize his 30 year activity in art in 2007 he decided to finalize the drawing of a poster he started in 1977. VARIOUS - THE PERILS OF PARADISE
Pop01 is a piece of conceptual art entitled The Perils Of Paradise and articulates visions on a dreamed Utopian society and criticizes the contemporary Western, so called open democratic, society (which is a make belief paradise). The Perils Of Paradise is about the construction and destruction of social reality. Thus it is about the structures that are created around us and most people call reality, and the will of a few to destroy them and see the light behind these structures. The inspiration for this comes from a poem of which the origin is unknown to us. Here is one stanza from the poem: "I destroy to create, For the new is the old, I speak in a babble of tongues, In this game of confusion, One paradise less or more, Only to know after it is torn down". The music on this record is based on a minimal noise sculpture by Dutch industrial project <vektor>. Next to that it features revisions of the original sound structure by this artist from The Low Countries. These revisions are created by German minimal electronics act Echo West, French nihiltronix producers ICK and, last but not least the ritual industrial musicians from Terroritmo. In short, expect a record with a broad range of international industrial sounds. Limited to 238 copies in a hand printed and hand numbered sleeve with the Elitepop01 insert.

0331274 LP DOMINOS 25 2090503312746 DOMINO SOUND	DE KIFT - KRANKENHAUS De Kift's second album, Krankenhaus, originally a 1993 compact disc, is released for the first time ever on vinyl. The music on the album is difficult to describe, there simply aren't the reference points to make it easily classifiable. Thematically, Krankenhaus is a guided tour through the terror and tedium of war and its effects. Musically, it does have guitar, bass, and drums, but there is also a brass section, scrappy and heartfelt, making plenty of appearances throughout, and some woodwinds, an accordion, piano, violin, and hand clapping show up here and there. Imagine a scene from a Berlin cabaret of the 30s as written by the New Deals Federal Theater Project. But, in, well, Dutch. And using World War authors and poets as lyricists, but seen through the lens of the Dutch squatters movement that De Kift and The Ex came up through. If Hanns Eisler had been a collaborator with The Ex, you'd be close, but still not quite there. De Kift sets their music to the stories and poems of authors Jan Arends, Erich M. Remarque and Wolfgang Borchert and comes up with an album that brings a new beauty to the words and a remarkably original amalgamation. Way back in 1982 after their first demo tape was no reason for two record companies to give them a record deal, the members of Ensemble Pittoresque invested into more equipment to record and release their first album themselves. In November 1982 they gathered all their songs, idea's and equipment to start recording in a squatted monumental building in Wassenaar called Huize Rijksdorp. Clogsontronics released this what later would became their best known record in the beginning of 1983. Called For This Is Past, the album title also refers to Störung's This Is Future album. Now 25 years later this collectors item is re-released in the new Clogsontronics format as Vinyl + CD in one package. The package features a Hansaboard sleeve with glued-on picture, inner sleeve with lyrics and credits as well as two "HoSuMuKu Collective" stickers. The original mastertape was used. With minor sound enhancements and pressed on 180 grams vinyl as well as offered on CD the quality of the re-issue clearly surpasses the original release from 1983. Besides being an art-collective (dubio) who were sharing a building they used as a base to launch their commie rockets at CRASSholes, the police, nihilist punx and the corrupted consumer society at large...they made some fantastic records too. Grating repetetive stripped down angry compositions... songs is maybe not the right word. They introduced a new gestalt in the Dutch music world; aesthetically nothing to do with rock, playing on their own terms, writing their own zines...creating D.I.Y. platforms to be inclusive and inspirational. Rehearsal spaces, gigs and stencilmachines. Power to the people. This double LP collects their singles on the first side, a selection out of a live concert in 1978 on the second. Eugenius and Arian Brunwin gifted the eighties their unique style of experimental minimal wave. Both in various recordings as well as on stage. First released in 1982 as SG002, Clogsontronics now puts out a re-release of the Störung album 'This Is Future'. The original mastertape still in perfect condition was used for this one. Carefully some minor corrections were done to make it sound like it should have compared to the original pressing. Clogsontronics brings out this one in a new concept: A release both on vinyl and CD in one package. The buyer gets the art and analog feeling of the vinyl as well as the convenience and technical quality of the CD. For best results the vinyl was cut using the DMM cutting process and pressed on 180 grams vinyl. Also included in the package are 2 stickers similar to the ones the band used for promotion back in the old days. Over the past twenty years one of the bigger enigma's of 'industrial' music or 'modern musique concrete' has been THU20. They seldom record or play live, yet when they do, a lot of attention is placed on the detail. In the studio this leads to perfectly shaped sonic constructions, and in a live concert a detailed balance between the various interests of the five players involved. The computer work of Jos Smolders and Roel Meelkop, the acoustic sound objects of Peter Duimelinks and Frans de Waard and the analogue electronics of Jacques van Bussel. A small selection of live recordings by THU20 has been made available before, such as a split LP with Merzbow, and live recordings from Nancy. 'Tilburg' fits that particular line of THU20 work. Their firstborn (Where's the rest of me?) was an attempt to make the perfect pop-record (under their conditions), on this second CD they've abandoned that noble attempt. Recorded and produced in a barn in the countryside in the south of France it sounds somewhat in between advanced lo-fi and sloppy perfectionism. The main theme was to write within song-like structures, but they took the liberty to ignore those at moments of their own choice. Bob Drake (usa) currently lives in france but used to work as a soundtechnician in Los Angeles as a favorite of many hip-hop acts, amongst others Ice Cube, who even swears at him on one of his cd's. He also worked for Peter Sellars, Ike & Tina Turner, Quincy Jones and others. His own music was allways more experimental. AA Kismet is a direct descendant of Dull Schicksal and later 'The Rosebuds' and much of the material on this, their first, CD had been recorded by Dull already or at least performed live. The problem was that these songs were a bit to 'poppy' to be included in the Dull Schicksal repertoire. The main idea by this CD was to make an un-ashamedly pop-album and get some respect from the 'indierock' scene. We succeeded on the first count and the reactions and reviews by those few who have heard the CD agree with us completely. And although this is much more commercial then anything made by Dull, we fully understand (on second hearing) why we're not nominated for any MTV-award or even its equivalent in Sexbierum, Friesland (pop. 1500) The opening song did inspire and served as the music for two short movies; 'Nee' By Segher Van Wijk and 'Questions and answers' By Marieke v.d. In addition to acoustic instrumentation Banabila uses electronics, field recordings, recordings taken from radio, television and film and recordings made with vocoder plugs. His music is often described as cinematic and atmospheric. Banabila also makes musical contributions to film, television, theatre, video art and dance. The albums 'VoizNoiz', 'VoizNoiz 2' and 'Spherics' were released internationally on Tone Casualties (Los Angeles) and Pork Recordings (Hull/London). CD 1 contains highlights from Banabila's albums released on Steamin'Soundworks since 1999. They were selected from the albums 'VoizNoiz' (1999), the subsequent VoizNoiz 2 and 3 (2001 and 2002) and the two-part 'Spherics' series (2001 and 2003). In addition, a track each was chosen from the albums 'Arhil' (2000) by Bahia El Idrissi and the compilation album 'X-Rated: The Electronic Files' (2002). All tracks were freshly mastered and some were remixed. CD 2 contains new material recorded by Banabila in 2008. 0322194 CD PLONK 11 2090503221949 PLINKITY PLONK	BEEQUEEN - GUND A final dig in the vaults for the Beequeen, resulting in the following release: "Gund" is now available as a CD on Beequeen's private Plinkity Plonk label and has two recordings for two vinyl projects. The first four pieces on the CD were recorded early 1998 for a 12" vinyl single on which these tracks were supposed to be cut at different speeds (16, 33, 45 and 78 RPM). Due to its complexity of pressing this record was never realized. The fifth and sixth track were originally intended to form a 10" album of a most unlikely meeting by Beequeen and MSBR, the wellknown Japanese noise act. Based upon a mutual sound exchange, both Beequeen and MSBR worked independently on their pieces. The label that intended to release this, stopped while both bands were still recording. Beequeen finished their piece in 1998 and MSBR decided to do a new piece in 2001. Unlike its somewhat abstract predecessor SlowmotionAdversity, the new record, which ManicM has worked on at home for the past 4 years, consists of a more accessible and more colourful collection of songs. The CD also features collaborations with other artists from the Alkmarian music scene. There aren't many musical genres not present on the album. For instance, one can hear blues, rap, spoken word, electro pop, rockabilly and industrial, sometimes also referring to the 2003 debut. One of the highlights is the song Hank, featuring vocals by American author Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), a track that has already gotten great response on the internet. Fortunately, ManicM has managed to maintain a certain unity in his musical variety. Not only through recurring themes lyric-wise, but also through the way some of the songs refer to each other. The intro, for example, features a guitar solo that returns 11 songs later, in the desolate Strolling Down the Highway. Even Bukowski does an encore near the end of the record, speaking along the chords of the third tracks reprise. And, at the end of the album, the circle completes itself when spoken word is heard over ocean sounds - which is exactly how the album began. As mentioned before, ManicM didn't make TWSOTF all by himself. The album contains contributions by A Days Work guitarist Maarten Appel, electro vamp Monsieur Plastique (on Doing Time, which was released as a single November 2007), rap duo Stosil, Abe Diddy & The Krautboys singer/guitarist Nelis Hoogers and drummer Gijs Steenbergen, Adoma, British poet Maria Gornell and Geoffrey Aubert (formerly known as Bunky B), who used to play the keyboard in Iedereen Zôò Jotje. Even though some tracks have gotten ManicM a lot of positive feedback, hes not likely to take the stage to promote the album any time soon. This is mainly due to his devotion to writing (as M.S. Hoogland, he released two books over the past few years). Also, he's pretty sure hell forget and mess up his guitar parts while playing his stuff live -all the more reason to just get this album, really. On ManicM's MySpace you can hear four tracks of the album, as well a Doing Time remix and a Tom Waits cover. One stop was at the rural city of Easthampton and the audience that night was rather small, but among them were Scott Faust, Gregory Whitehead and Thurston Moore. That particular concert showed Kapotte Muziek in probably their most fluxus element: the process of making music was made audible. The amplification of the opening of the bags, searching out objects to play and from there built the concert was a new, and as of yet, unrepeated, idea. For the 12th part in our series of 'Kapotte Muziek by...' we asked Thurston Moore to expand on this idea and in a totally free setting of piano, guitar and small objects, he recreates the concerts by removing the concert and replacing it by his own playing, where the original recording serves as a score. The same magic square is transposed in two versions. One can be experienced by the eyes, the other one by the ears. A magic square is a series of numbers arranged in a square grid so that the sum of each horizontal and vertical row and of the corner diagonals is always the same. Magic squares reveal harmony of number and refer to the nature of existence and a cosmic order dominated by mathematical regularity. Number is the origin of all things, Pythagoras said, and Boethius said music is numbers made audible. Presented as a room installation, 'A magic square of 5 to look at' is a floorpiece of 5 x 5 m, and 'A magic square of 5 to listen to' can be heard through a quadraphonic sound system performing the four staffs of the score independently, starting about 5 seconds after each other. The audience moves around the floorpiece in the space. This work was designed for and premiered as a site-specific sound installation at the Puddles Festival 2003 at Jusshi Square in Tokyo from September 13-24 in 2003. The sounds were chosen in cooperation with Leon van Noorden, who realized the recording on a computer using the programme CSOUND. The master CD-R was made with technical assistence of René Adriaans. 0326740 CD Z6 893 2090503267404 Z6	SIMONIS, LUKAS -& TAKAYUKI KAWABATA - NEWS It was cello-player Kumi Kondo who asked Simonis to write a multiphonic (cello & voice) piece for her final exams for the Rotterdam Conservatory in 2004. The lyrics of this song -Iyashi- were written by the Japanese Poet Takayuki Kawabata and having discovered his work like this, Simonis suggested to do a bigger project together. Out this came NEWS which consists of the songcycle with the same name (the first 5 songs on the cd) and 3 other Kawabata (inspired) songs. Simonis wrote some music and made some route descriptions for the band that consisted of two cellos, a guitar & voice. After the recordings ,that thus involved a large part of improvisation, Simonis took his time, editing and mixing the material, almost like re(de?)composing the stuff. So what we have here, is -not unlike Simonis last CD Stots- a project that is in a way about the misunderstanding of (a) language and therefore very suitable for massive misinterpretation. A fact that is eagerly exploited in the use of composition as a commoditive tool. In the meantime we hear a much more quieter and esthetically friendlier landscape then in Stots. Then theres the disoriented remix of reality that happens in Kawabatas texts. And last but not least, the interpretations of the band that, except for Simonis sparse contributions on guitar, consists of two cellos -Nina Hitz and Kumi Kondo- and the beautiful voice of Miki Sugiura. 0322197 CD A 26 2090503221970 ALLUVIAL	WAARD, FRANS -DE- - VIJF PROFIELEN In November 2005 Frans de Waard spend a week recording and composing on location in the small Dutch town Vlissingen, near the coast. The Marine shipyard is located in the centre of that town, but activities are moved and the whole area gets new direction in years to come. As part of an exhibition '[Mijn] Domein', three musicians were asked to reflect on this transition. Frans de Waard was last and recorded the remaining activities in this building where so called 'profiles' are made used in shipbuilding. In the piece things move from hectic and busy (in the first profile) to emptyness (in the fifth profile), although it's one piece. Using mainly recordings made on site of elevators, metal cutting and room ambience, this piece is a strong work of field recordings with minor electronic processing. Wander is Beequeen in drone disguise. This piece (in two parts), was recorded in the summer of 2008, with subsequent mixing afterwards. All analogue synthesizers humming away. Playing his unique brand of percussive music he gained a lot of attention, but in more recent years he returned to working with electro-acoustic manipulations. Since 2003 he has also begun a wide ranging series of collaborations, working with Francisco Lopez, Stephen O'Malley, David Jackman/Organum and Oren Ambarchi among others. One such ongoing collaboration is with Frans de Waard, with whom he released 'Forwaard' in April 2007 and 'Outwaard' is the next installment. Whereas the sound sources used on 'Forwaard' where of a varying nature, on 'Outwaard' they were all made at a petting zoo in Kleve, Germany. These recordings which are 'recoded' by Z'EV into a forty minute, densely layered pattern of musique concrete. Many of the animal call like sounds disappear in the 'recoded' version and makes a particular strong work, but occasionally one returns and leaves a no less than haunting listening experience. MONSIEUR PLASTIQUE - DOING TIME Doing Time is the first and only CD single off of ManicM's second CD album, The Wrong Side of the Fence (due February 2008). Although the majority of his album is influenced by blues, folk and industrial, Doing Time is a both catchy and noisy electro pop tune, or whatever the hell they call it these days when you play guitar on a dance track. ManicM claims the inspiration for the song came from both Johnny Marr and Q Lazzarus (use that information in any way you want). Vocals on the song are performed by electro darling extraordinaire Monsieur Plastique, who, while working on his debut album for U-Lit Records, was eager to contribute to ManicM's CD. The end result of their collaboration was very well received in local clubs and by the public - that's when the idea came to release it as a single. Even though Monsieur Plastique claims materialism kills, we do recommend you get this single, since it features some extra curiosities you wont find anywhere else. FACES (NL/CH/JAP) - TIJDLUS
FACES is the name of the group; TIJDLUS is the name of the project. Tijdlus is a collaboration between cinematographer Joost Van Veen, electronosonorist/composer Huib Emmer, improviser/no good sonofabitch/songwriter Lukas Simonis (all NL), cellist Nina Hitz (CH) and fortepiano player Kaoru Iwamura (JAP). Images & Sounds are equally important in TIJDLUS (timeloop) and they were created simultaneously whilst developing the material for the project. Van Veen generated the images; Emmer & Simonis - strongly influenced by the band - wrote the compositions. Although composed, the music uses a wide range of techniques & styles: improvisation, baroque music, etc. Similarly, the visuals draw on images from different times and different places - most of the footage comes from archives.com and some of it was specially shot on location for this project. TIJDLUS tells a story through its use of association, but you can also watch & listen to the songs - 1 by 1 - on their own merits. The musicians & the filmmaker come from various backgrounds too: Emmer is a composer working in the fields of composed & electronic music; Hitz plays old music, new music and works a lot with dancers; Iwamura is definitely OLD school (by that I mean baroque; this project is actually the first time she has played a modern instrument - the ARP Odyssey); Simonis is an eclecticist pur sang and Joost van Veen is an experimental filmmaker who has been awarded several prestigious prizes.
