0339761 LP AMSLP 11 AMS	GOBLIN - SUSPIRIA (SPECIAL GIMMICK EDITION) Probably the most scary soundtrack Goblin has ever written (don't listen at it when the lights are down!), apparently it seems that the score was composed before the film was ready, so that director Dario Argento had to make some changes to the movie script, in order to have the music perfectly suited!! This legendary soundtrack combines elements of music and sound scary effects going far beyond traditional background scoring, becoming an integral part of the film. As critics say nowadays, SUSPIRIA music "is so perfectly integrated into the film, fares less well as a stand-alone item. All that pounding, howling, thumbing, and wheezing is enough to send chills down your spine even without the movie images (it is the perfect imaginary soundtrack), but not all of it could be called a pleasant listening experience (unless your idea of pleasant is having your nerves set on edge)." The original Suspiria vinyl record album featured two sleeves. When removed from the outer sleeve, the inner sleeve unfolded to reveal a pop-up of Dario Argento's initials, decorated with the demonic Goblin logo and the dead ballerina poster art from SUSPIRIA. The inner sleeve featured a black-and-white photo of Argento working with Goblin in the recording studio, plus several color photos from the film, including behind the scenes images of Argento on set. This reissue features the same pop-up system, although inverted: this time the outer sleeve will reveal its astounding secret as it was intended in the original project! Joining the remaining Fun House veterans - Iggy on vocals, Ron Asheton on guitar and Scott Asheton on drums, were new boys Jimmy Recca on bass and James Williamson on guitar - yes indeed! - a dual guitar Stooges!! ...and Jools Thurston nowhere in sight!!! 0339820 LP SHADOKS 124 SHADOKS MUSIC	SVANFRIDUR - WHAT'S HIDDEN THERE 500 numbered / heavy gatefold sleeve / 180 gram pressing / 2 page insert. The Icelandic prog-rock band Svanfrdur released only one album, recorded six months after they played their first gig. This short-lived band rapidly rose to fame, receiving rave reviews for live performances, but in fact their music was way ahead of its time. They were unable to seal a recording contract so they formed their own label - Swan Records. When the album Whats Hidden There? was released in autumn 1972 it got mixed reviews and sold only a few hundred copies, leaving the band with a great album but sadly not the income they had been hoping for. Recorded at Londons Majestic Studios the album was cut and pressed in England. Perhaps one of the best heavy prog / underground album from Scandinavia with amazing guitar & all English vocals. Since their debut was released Teeth of the Sea have been taking their unique sound around the UKs stages and blowing-away acolytes whilst touring with the likes of Oneida, Wooden Shjips and The Heads..Now Rocket Recordings are proud to introduce Hypnoticon, an EP of new material from Teeth of the Sea. The EP kicks off with the track In the Space Capsule (Love Theme), and Queen fans amongst us will recognise this track as a cover version of a track from the Flash Gordon soundtrack. The band covered the entire album in front of the film (and in costume) on New Years Eve 2009, and this track struck such a nerve that it became the opener of their live set, and was thus committed spectacularly to posterity. 0339822 LP SHADOKS 125 SHADOKS MUSIC	TRUBROT - TRUBROT 500 numbered / heavy gatefold sleeve / 180 gram pressing /2 page insert. Trubrot was the first supergroup ever founded in Iceland. It was created in May 1969 when leading members of Hljomar (Sounds) and Flowers set out to create the finest Icelandic rock group of all time. Guitarist and composer Gunnar Thorgarson bass player and singer Runar Juliusson and lead vocalist Shady Owens of Hljomar had been plotting this for some months, along with organist Karl Sighvatsson and drummer Gunnar Jokull Hakonarson of Flowers, before the bands genesis was announced publicly. These were troubled times and Trubrot had countless hurdles to overcome before the band eventually fell apart early in 1973. After the dbut album was released in December 1969 by EMI. After this album vocalist Shady Owens announced that she was quitting. Trubrot recorded 3 more albums which will be released on Shadoks too. Tony Branwell of Apple Records was saying these were one of the two best bands he had seen perform on stage in the preceding six months. Really cool underground album full of musical ideas and well-crafted music, male & female vocals. Musically is goes in the same direction as BLO, THE WITCH and QUESTION MARK, but this album is way cooler and stoned with amazing fuzz guitar all over which sounds like an African version of early CREAM. The cover make it look very traditional but after a few spins you are aware that this one is very special. Its soo cool, so tight produced and easily to compare with UK underground albums with a touch of African beats. The 1930's art-deco cinema, an audience of thousands, excitement and tension in the air, last minute preparations backstage. The Enid are about to take the stage for their performance... Recorded in front of a packed house on 3rd March 1979, this live recording shows the ability of the band to manage to play their music in a most faithful way live on stage, a feat that must be tremendously difficult to achieve. The roar of the crowd, the count down from Robert John Godfrey, lights, guitars, brass, strings, smoke and of course, the music. Artwork from the original vinyl releases have been re-created to bring it into line with other recent reissues from Inner Sanctum Recordings. Volume 1 is the first part of the concert; opening with 'God Save The Queen', proceeding towards firm favourites 'The Last Judgement' and 'In The Region Of The Summer Stars'. He began playing guitar and acting before he was ten years, and the fall of 1961, he became the first Norwegian who played in rock band with a fender Stratocaster. In autumn 1969 he helped put together super heavy rock group Jumbo with Freddy Lindquist, Leif Jensen, and Tore Syvertsen. The group had two singles, but were dissolved during the work on their first LP. Finjarn and Jensen made the album complete with Lindquist, Arild Krosby, Arne Kvikstad and Grete Christoffersen. Yngvar Holm wrote an enthusiastic article that was published by the jacket. Briton John Mills was the producer for the album, which came out in autumn 1970, and that could be placed side by side with the hard, progressive rock from abroad. One of the coolest albums made in Scandinavia. A review of the vinyl version of this album states as follows- "Keep yer 'and on it" was the second album by the radically transformed line up of String Driven Thing led by the only member left from the earlier line up- violinist Grahame Smith- ; it also proved to be their last. After "Please mind your head", the band came back with a fine collection of rock based songs featuring strong compositions and excellent performances all round. Both sides of the album open with similar up tempo numbers with strong hooks and a rich sound. "Starving in the tropics" has a pragmatic but sensitive message, while "But I do" is a nicely twisted love song. Kim Beacon, who was the principal vocalist on Tony Bank's first album "A curious feeling" (but sadly is no longer with us), is on fine form throughout. His voice may be something of an acquired taste, being somewhere between John Wetton and Tom Jones(!), but for me he was one of the best in the business. The songs are generally straight forward, the exception being the superb interpretation of the Beatles "Things we said today". Here the band allow themselves a little more latitude, developing the instrumentals aspects, and briefly exploring psychedelic territories. The ballad "Ways of a woman" may be schmaltzy, with weeping violin, but it is performed tenderly and Beacon offers his most soulful performance of the album. The melancholy mood continues on the reflective "Part of it", a song which would have suited the previous line up well. The subtitle of "Chains (I wanna be just like Stan Bowles)" will mean little to younger members, but think early 70's British football. "Stand back in amazement" and "Call out for mercy" are excellent pop rock songs, certainly not challenging, but enjoyable nonetheless. When Chris and Pauline Adams left String Driven Thing after the release of "The Machine that cried", the heart of the band essentially went with them. To his credit, Grahame Smith rebuilt String Driven Thing from scratch, but the truth was that this was a completely different band using the same name (per Fleetwood Mac). The new line up recorded two albums together;this is the first of the two. Vocal duties were taken on by Kim Beacon (here referred to as Kimberley) who was the principal vocalist on Tony Banks' first solo album. Beacon's vocals represented a fundamental change from those of Chris and Pauline Adams, implying an immediately apparent change of sound for the band. This, combined with a general move towards a more orthodox pop rock direction alienated many of SDT's original fans. Things start off brightly enough with "Overdrive" a mid-paced pop song with a fine harmonic chorus.. Songs such as "Without you" try to be more adventurous, with Smith's violin and viola contributions moving the songs on. Vocalist the late Kim Beacon was one of the finest rock singers of his day, his voice being a cross between Paul Rogers and Rod Stewart. Standout tracks are "Overdrive", and the instrumental "Timpani for the devil". Previously unreleased 60's Tracks by King Arthur's Quart and late 70's Tina Peel material were released on a 7" EP and LP respectively. A track by Rigor Mortis,(Rudi's band in 1970) was included in the Basementville U.S.A. LP Compilation,while a whole bunch o' Fuzztones fave 60's covers were re-recorded by Rudi and The Others in Rome. Some eventually ended in the "Yellow Purple and Green" LP Shared with Gonn' Craig Moore as guest on the flip side. In 2001 The Fuzztones toured Italy and stopped at Delta Studio in Rome to cut a 3 song EP that went sold out within' just a few months. Needless to say, these issues do not exist, yet the demand for the 'missing' No-Man album certainly does. To ensure a perfect replication of the artwork, Hidden Art Recordings managed to track down graphic designer Bill Smith (who holds the copyright in the original artwork). As a result we've been able to successfully replicate the complete fold-out booklet with lyrics, thus ensuring the re-issue is faithful to the original release.Wild Opera' is the progeny of 'Flowermouth' and the progenitor of 'Returning Jesus', the family resemblance is clear, but this isn't a No-Man clone. Roberts captures the fervor of do-it yourself ethos, punk energy and the rawness of early American folk by acting on his wild child imagination and enigmatic sense of song. They rehearsed during the day and played a fabulous show that night. Rhys was blown away by the skills of the drummer and bass player and talked about plans to form a trio - half a year later he was back in Bern and introduced Julian Sartorius (drums) and Mago Flueck (bass) to new compositions he brought along. Beat Unternährer on trombone joined as guest musician. Reto Mäder (RM74, Sum Of R, Ural Umbo) recorded many hours of these sessions on a multi-track machine. Over the next few months, Mäder listened to the recordings, separated the wheat from the chaff, selected the best parts and made pre-mixes. After more than 100 hours of work, a brand new Rhys Chatham album was finally mixed and mastered. Using the non-linear acoustics of the gallery at O', the dubplate was recorded, and later cut to disc in Berlin, at very low volume. This ephemeral audio signal becomes present during playback only at high volume, which subsequently produces, by design, a unique physical response from the room, air and amplification - creating deep undertones and blossoming overtones via these manifold resonances; simultaneously, the action of the stylus gently abraids the soft vinyl surface, causing the dubplate's sound to gradually disappear and evolve, successively losing higher frequencies whilst acquiring new artefacts and crackle. OLTRE documents this degradation and transformation over two months of live performances. The integrated system of subsonic feedback from ventilators, acoustically gated binaural microphones, modal micro-variations in guitar feedback, field-recordings from across remote areas of Australia and the live, physical interplay of the turntable, dubplate and stylus, combine to create a field which moves beyond the original recordings and their individual spaces. Their live concerts helped pioneer this hybrid of delicate and natural instrumentation with microscopic electronics and subtle digital processing bringing an organic richness to a genre that threatened to remain coldly digital. (short for One-O-Seventh Royal Dutch Underground Company) from The Netherlands became almost world famous in the worldwide cassette culture of the early 1980's. Their song "Crazy Computer" was released on a Plurex compilation back then. Later the song appeared on the self released album 'Pink & Purple' from 1981. After some cassette releases there was some silence. In 2007 O.R.D.U.C. and their own record company Motok came back to life after a sort of hibernation. What you hear are minimalistic and at times simple song structures done with lo-fi and cheap electronics and production methods. Think something in between minimal synth pieces sounding a bit poppy but too strange for dancefloors and at the same time experimental but not harsh and loud enough for going into the industrial side of things. This LP '107' is in a way quite close to 'Pink & Purple'. The mix of tracks is great with poppy songs and stranger pieces and even a Kosmische Scene influenced track. Covers and music inspired by the Godfather of Afro-Beat! Limited edition luxurious box set contains four 10" vinyl records, plus a large-format booklet. He's best known by his first name, Fela. He's certainly Nigeria's most famous musical export. In Nigeria, his countrymen knew his music like Americans know Elvis. On foreign shores, a chosen few Westerners could claim to know the extent of Fela's genius. As a result, while music historians have filled books with references to the influence of Westerners on Fela's creation, little has been said about Fela's inspiration on others. Thus, our compilation begins. Fela's music, and that of his organization inspired musicians across the global village when Afro-Beat was new and novel. This compilation focuses on the music Fela inspired whether by fellow Nigerians recording alongside him in the early 70s, neighbors in Ghana, then-modern Colombian cumbia ensembles inspired by the man who injected a new feel into the Yoruban rhythms that formed cumbia's base, Trinidadian steel bands or the select few organizations left that have maintained Fela's fury in the new millennium. DJ's such as Snowboy and Keb Darge have rejected the same old rare groove classics and dug deeper and deeper to find the lost sound of the urban America of the late 60s and early 70s. His name itself conjures images of 70s Lagos: a metropolis awash in the jubilation that swept in after the 1970 armistice in the civil war between the Nigerian Army and Eastern Biafran secessionists, a capital city in the midst of transition. This is the environment in which Fela and his Africa 70 popularized the hybrid of highlife, jazz and James Brown style, big-band funk he invented: Afro-Beat. In Nigeria, his countrymen knew his music like Americans know Elvis. On foreign shores, a chosen few Westerners could claim to know the extent of Felas genius. As a result, while music historians have filled books with references to the influence of Westerners on Felas creation, little has been said about Felas inspiration on others. Thus, our compilation begins. Fela's music, and that of his organization inspired musicians across the global village when Afro-Beat was new and novel. This compilation focuses on the music Fela inspired - whether by fellow Nigerians recording alongside him in the early 70s, neighbors in Ghana, then-modern Colombian cumbia ensembles inspired by the man who injected a new feel into the Yoruban rhythms that formed cumbias base, Trinidadian steel bands or the select few organizations left that have maintained Felas fury in the new millennium. This is but a cursory investigation into those inspired by Fela Kuti's genius, but it is unique: the first time that many of these tracks are not only offered a second chance for worthy introspection, but, in the case of many, the first time they're being issued full stop. The mellower second side includes the insanely brilliant eight-minute epic 'Shadows Of My Mind', in which Akira Fuse sings like some drunken Italian baritone, while atonal swooping strings and crazy brass support/undermine him; then it's off into a juggernaut bass-heavy clatterthon with duel-axe outrage of the highest level. And how about that title track whose catchy bastard licks unashamedly rip Sly's 'I Want To Take You Higher', but still have you singing along with Fuse? The record closes brilliantly with the demented 'Facts About It All', which opens like Fuse laying a grunting 6/8 James Brown/Eric Burdon ballad on us. But no, this miniature R&B opera says in 2 minutes and 56 seconds what prog bands too a whole side to say. All hail visionary genius Ikuzo Orita for uniting his fave guitarist Kimio Mizutani with the errant free-jazz Gibson 335 of Takao Naoi, whose brittle spittle pops permanent wheelies around these slipper rhythm tracks. Also hail Orita for recognising the genius of these songs of sax player Kei Ichihara, for trusting Akira Fuse's professionalism and open-mindedness, and for seeing this 33-minute-long classic to its unlikely conclusion." "Most people are familiar with the Ethiopian music of the 'golden seventies'. The great CD-series of 'Ethiopiques' focuses on this remarkable period of truly amazing and rich music. The era of the big brass bands came to an end in the period of the 'Derg', the military government in Ethiopia from 1975 till 1991. After that, the scene seemed confused. Many great musicians were forced into exile or passed away. The horns mostly disappeared and were replaced by cheap keyboards everywhere. Awful bombastic overproduced 'plastic' pop-productions flooded the market. Synthesisers, vocoders, drummachines and hasty productions that all sound alike. But in the last few years something new is emerging. Young producers have started combining traditional rhythms and strong dance beat production. The result is very original, uplifting and very danceable music. The gurage, wollo, gondar, oromo and other traditional rhythms work wonders for this new dance music. And the Ethiopian youth loves it. It can be heard not only in the hip areas like Bole, but all over Addis and other Ethiopian urban areas. Blasting from restaurants, taxi's, coffeeplaces, grocerystores and Addis' giant market, the Mercato.
