Originally released on small label "Aronda" in 1972 Dzyans eponymous 1st Album was their most rock oriented one. Similar to their SWF-recordings 6 month later Dzyan played a slightly jazzy form of progressive rock with hints of Wolfgang Dauner, flashes of Zappas Hot Rats and even some Van Der Graaf Generator styled saxophone-fronted diversions. As the Freeman Brothers write in their classic book "The Crack In The Cosmic Egg" an "intriguing album that is still fresh today". Strong expressive vocals (Jochen Leuschner), refined guitar playing (Harry Krmer) and remarkable sax tunes (Gerd Ehrmann) supported by an excellent rhythm section with extraordinaire bass player and bandleader Reinhard Karwatky and solid drummer Ludwig Braum are the characteristics of this great album, which is incomprehensible underrated in comparison with their latter albums "Time Machine" and "Electric Silence".Vinyl Version comes with original cover replica and insert with band story and rare and still unseen photos. Dzyan recorded 3 albums between 1972 and 1974. Each album they released was quiet different. After the release of the first album the line-up changed and Eddy Marron was the new guitarist. The SWF-session reminds a lot to their first album. Dzyan played a slightly jazzy form of progressive rock with flashes of Zappas Hot Rats and even some VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR saxophone- fronted diversions. These radio studio recordings are even more rock oriented then the first album recordings. There are five titles. 4 new compositions and a longer (11:00 minutes) and different version of probably the best title from the first album "Dragon Song". Steels Electric/Daddy Groove is a 15 minutes suite, very inventive and with great guitar playing by Eddy Marron. ZAZ has a great ethnic feel produced by fine Zaz (Turkish stringed instrument) also played by Eddy Marron and oriented rock rhythm patterns. Finally "Resurrection" was part of a one hour suite, Dzyan sadly never recorded. This recordings are among the best ever recordings at the SWF session studio. GOMORRHA - I TURNED TO SEE WHOSE VOICE IT WAS
Limited vinyl reissue. Formed at the end of the 60's, Gomorrha rised from the German progressive rock scene thanks to the help of the producer and sound engineer Conny Plank. The band original line up includes Helmut Pohl (drums) and Eberhard Krietsch (ogan, bass) with Ad Oschel and Ali Claudi at the guitars. They released their first album in 1970. The second recording "trauma" (1971) really marks a new step in the development of Gomorrha's original song. They distinguish with a dense heavy psych rock experience punctuated by organ dominated sequences. It now includes lyrics in English and a lead singer in the name of Peter Otten. In 1972 they release what will be considered as their summit "I Turned To See Whose Voice It Was"; An adventurous album featuring catchy instrumental jams, krautrock's original psych / spacey mood, pastoral flute parts and heavy guitar riffs. The concept of this release is focused on the apocalypse theme and the book of revelation. They suddenly split up in 1973 after the publication of two memorable documents of German independent rock. |

Horrific Child was the creation of one Jean-Pierre Massiera, also the composer behind the Les Maledictus Sound project from 1968. Les Maledictus Sound were an inventive, high-brow concoction of lounge-style instrumental mod big band music, with heavy brass, plucky bass and fuzz guitar. Horrific Child is certainly the logical stylistic next step from that record, evidence of the composer's having survived several years beyond the psychedelic era. |

Thors Hammer came from Copenhagen, the Danish capital. Their music was a jazzy progressive rock with English lyrics. Their one and only LP was released in 1971 and holds the sad record of being the most bootlegged LP in Denmark. The now first legal LP reissue is accompanied by a 4-page insert in LP format, containing a detailed band history in German, English and Danish language, a comprehensive discography including side and solo projects, cover and label reproductions, and band photographs. It is the very first LP release on Garden of Delights' sublabel Thors Hammer which, to honour this great band, was named after it. This label is destined for bands coming from outside the German-speaking countries. It is a deluxe edition, handnumbered and limited to 1000 copies, pressed on 180g vinyl. |

The scene swathes to a satanic ritualistic burial at the hands of a denim-clad crew of outlaw bikers with strangely familiar faces. To many global record collectors, DJ's, music producers and general retrophiles living outside of Australia "Stone" was primarily known for its electronic sound effects, psychedelic guitars, cosmic sound scapes and funky basslines. And when the needle drops into the groove and the freakish blend of didgeridoo and Moog blended with unidentified clicks belches and pops fly out the speakers it is literally impossible to put a date, never mind a story line, to this acid fuelled soundscape. |

The long-awaited,long-whispered Magickal Folk album has finally arrived. People have been asking for a reissue for a long time and are being rewarded with a double CD. "The Mildew Leaf" and "The Cat's Melodeon" CDRs have long been out of print. Along with a track from the Gold Leaf Branches comp they make up Disc One. Disc Two is all new recordings, further exploring the Peter Kennedy songbook and beyond. We thank for your patience and are delighted to present this collection of songs to you. The Magickal Folk Of The Faraway Tree began when David Colohan (Agitated Radio Pilot, United Bible Studies) got his hands on a copy of Peter Kennedy's classic collection "Folksongs of Britain and Ireland". Along with Shane Cullinane (The Cosmic Nanou, United Bible Studies) he began to pick songs to work on. Disregarding the sheet music they simply wrote their own music for the traditional lyrics. Other songs such as Spencer The Rover and Donal Og were learned from recordings and heard in sessions and are more faithfully recorded. The newer recordings on disc two are augmented by original instrumentals in the old style. The actor Caroline Coffey (also heard on The Jonah by UBS) provides the sole female voice, sometimes a gentle ghostly whisper, other times a more like a banshee. She is also a more full-bodied presence on rousing songs such as Here's A Health To All True Lovers. Inevitably other members of United Bible Studies contributed; Gavin Prior, Scott McLaughlin and Sean Og who plays flute. While United Bible Studies and Agitated Radio Pilot are at the modern/progressive end of the folk contimuum, The Magickal Folk Of The Faraway Tree take a traditional approach, sticking to acoustic instruments. Nevertheless, purists may be perplexed when confronted with completely new melodies after perusing the familiar titles. Those who have never heard the 'originals' would have no reason to suspect the melodies were written in the 21st century. Therein lies the strength of this double album; Imagination and energy are brought to old songs but with a love of of the tradition evident at all times. |

After their world-wide and unexpected hit with Time of the Season, the somehow announced death of the Zombies, who had indeed already disbanded, was put off by an attempt at prolonging this success. Using new Odyssey & Oracle era recordings, and rescuing some old Decca Out-takes and Demos, a new album was prepared for release. Unfortunately the album never saw the light; instead, a couple of singles were released, and the rest of the album was discarded... until some of the material featured here was released in several compilation albums during the 70s and the 80s, much to the astonishment of Zombies fans. This is the first time that the album is released in the way it was conceived. Unlike much of the "unreleased" material of other bands, the content of the LP matches the published work of the Zombies, in terms of song-writing and production, confirming the talent of one of the most influential bands of the sixties. "Persian Pop, Funk, Folk And Psych From The 60s And 70s". The music and voices that blossomed during the 60s and 70s in Iran exemplify the turbulence and excitement of the age. It is worth recognizing these 'left out' and 'lost' artists individually and as a group in the global happenings of 60s/70s psych, rock and folk, while exploring their influence and relevance to the present day. Is it possible that there is a genus of delectable sounds and fetching images that almost exclusively reside in the elbowroom of memory and nostalgic 'yesteryear' storytelling? Little consideration has been given to the correlation of these sounds and stories within the universal psychedelic phenomena: parallel to the shared stylistics of British and American players, and the radical politicking of their Turkish and Korean counterparts. This collection endeavors to re-contextualize these songs from the realm of reminiscence, nostalgia, and memory into a specific and accessible narrative to share and relate within the universal musical gamut. It is for aficionados, the curious, and collectors alike. We hope that Iranians around the world will rediscover these songs. This collection is, in some sense, dedicated to a generation in self-imposed mental exile, due to years of war and catastrophe; decades of lies and bombs; a fundamentalist theocracy of reformist shams; addiction; isolation and alienation; unemployment, and inflation. These are voices and stories that may again prove relevant to a psychologically damaged and spiritually corrupt society, a society whose discontents recall the latter years of the Shah's rule. The recordings excavated here are highly sexual musings, voluble love songs, and simple folk tunes. In many of these songs, there are subtle voices of political protest. WHEEL was formed in 2006 under the name ETHERIAL SLEEP by Marcus and Arkadius, former members of the Power Metal Band AVANITAS from Dortmund, and Benjamin, former member Dortmund's Thrashers McDEATH. The common goal of the trio was to create old school, heavy, emotional music different from their former bands and so traditional Doom Metal was the only logical consequence. In 2008, after several rehearsals with more or less talented drummers, Cazy joined and guitarist Timo finally completed the line-up for the first time ever. ETHEREAL SLEEP then changed their name to WHEEL because they felt more comfortable with a shorter, more concise name. In early 2009 WHEEL recorded a two track demo in their rehearsal room which led to a multi album deal with Eyes Like Snow. During that time Timo left the band and subsequently Ben took over both lead & rhythm guitars for the album recording. In 1989 Abshire left the band and was replaced by GREG MCCAUGHEY, and soon after the group's debut album If This Isn't A Dream was released on Alchemy Records (Melvins, Neurosis, RKL, Poison Idea, etc.). Shortly after the album's release, Alchemy folded, the album was lost in obscurity, and the Virulence disbanded (re-forming later with a different vocalist as FU MANCHU). Southern Lord's reissue includes all the tracks from the debut album, along with early demons and live tracks. Packaged with liner notes from the band and tons of photos and flyers from the band's glory days. |

WHEEL was formed in 2006 under the name ETHERIAL SLEEP by Marcus and Arkadius, former members of the Power Metal Band AVANITAS from Dortmund, and Benjamin, former member Dortmund's Thrashers McDEATH. The common goal of the trio was to create old school, heavy, emotional music different from their former bands and so traditional Doom Metal was the only logical consequence. In 2008, after several rehearsals with more or less talented drummers, Cazy joined and guitarist Timo finally completed the line-up for the first time ever. ETHEREAL SLEEP then changed their name to WHEEL because they felt more comfortable with a shorter, more concise name. In early 2009 WHEEL recorded a two track demo in their rehearsal room which led to a multi album deal with Eyes Like Snow. During that time Timo left the band and subsequently Ben took over both lead & rhythm guitars for the album recording. Dark Sunny Land uses acoustic and electric guitars (often played in an unorthodox fashion), as well as keyboards, recorder, percussion, various household contraptions, and other found sounds. "The original idea if there ever was one was to have the sound be a lot closer to a Skip James record than how it turned out. But the feeling of the blues is still there, even if most of the blues chords and structure got turned inside out along the way. That's happened to me before. 2008 was a strange summer. I didn't have a job or much money and was pondering mortality more than usual. The recording got done mostly at night in my apartment, which looks out onto the Mass Turnpike. Trains run along the highway. While I was doing the recording I was working on some paintings. Looking back, it seems like the trains and the highway and the night affected the paintings and the songs in a big way-the mood of them, that is. I think each song is distinct though. Actually, you can hear the cars and trucks and even a train going by if you listen hard."-Steve Painter. |

The M Squared label operated in Sydney, Australia from 1980 to 1983.When Mitch Jones and Michael Tee gathered a motley assortment ofrecording equipment in a tiny Surry Hills terrace on Boxing Day 1979,they managed to produce three big ideas. The first was Scattered Order,more a sound experiment than a band. The second was a recording studio,with cheap access for people like themselves. Its income would help tofinance their final idea: a record label with an intriguing catalogue, run with uncustomarytransparency and with no agenda to shape or classify the material it might release. Quickly joined by Patrick Gibson, whose Systematics project was the first to come into the studio,the label rapidly established a following. With an output of 24 vinyl and 7 cassette releases overthree hectic years, M Squared also managed to promote live performances and build up some healthy interest in Europe and the US college radio network.Though methods of manufacture, promotion and distribution were more cumbersome then, M Squared advantageously came into being at the same time as a brief musical zeitgeist in Sydney's inner city. The scene was low key but full of fizz, producing a great variety of sounds and a certain 'underdog' camaraderie. Formed 1978 in New York, Circle X was born out of the ashes of No Fun and the I-Holes as Louisvilles first punk rock band. Once the lineup of Circle X solidified, the formerly-punk band lunged headfirst into weirder, artier territory. Whether the big citys burgeoning No Wave scene influenced Circle X or they influenced the scene is unclear; what is clear, though, is that Circle X was the most unique, most mysterious, and most un-heralded band hailing from that place and time. In France for nine months with new manager Bernard Zekri, Circle X toured from their base in Dijon, garnering strong press and stronger public reaction while writing new material as they went. An untitled four-song EP saw the light of day in 1979. That untitled 12-inch debut was practically without antecedent. Its a lurching, squalling monster. Identified only by a symbol on the cover (a spray-painted circle with an "X" through it; the spelled-out name first appeared in '83), it pits Pinotti's screeched vocals against Witsiepe and the Letendres' bass-less, barely contained distorto-blare. The hatred and rage on this thing is palpable and when it coalesces perfectly with the music, as it does on the lead track, Tender, its pretty damn effective. Nothing sounded like this in 1979. They arrived in New York at the tail end of No Wave, at the same time that equally ornery bands like Swans and Sonic Youth were getting revved up. Circle X are every bit as distinctive and attitudinal as Throbbing Gristle, PiL, Theoretical Girls, DNA, or Mars, yet they don't much sound like any of them. We proudly represent this masterpiece after thirty years again for the public. It has lost none of its intensity and rage. Limited to 500 copies, its on 180 gram vinyl in tip-on jackets that bear the original artwork and poly lined black inner sleeve plus liner notes. |

Dexter Dub is a producer, remixer and DJ from Cologne and his first longplayer is really opening a new dimension. Dexter likes to play with the well known conventions of genres, but transforming them into his own style, which he calls Dubbeat. Calibro 35 are a killer band performing classic and obscure themes from 60's and 70's soundtracks, trying to bring something contemporary to the compositions but still remaining very respectful to the originals. Calibro 35 had their first ever gigs in Luxemburg and Belgium and then moved back to Italy for some very crowded shows during spring and summer 2008. "Then Inspiration Of Fela Kuti". Covers & music inspired by the Godfather of Afro-Beat. Includes rare & previously unreleased music from Nigeria, Ghana, Colombia & Trinidad. He's best known by his first name, Fela. He's certainly Nigerias most famous musical export. His name itself conjures images of 70s Lagos: a metropolis awash in the jubilation that swept in after the 1970 armistice in the civil war between the Nigerian Army and Eastern Biafran secessionists, a capital city in the midst of transition. This is the environment in which Fela and his Africa 70 popularized the hybrid of highlife, jazz and James Brown style, big-band funk he invented: Afro-Beat. In Nigeria, his countrymen knew his music like Americans know Elvis. On foreign shores, a chosen few Westerners could claim to know the extent of Felas genius. As a result, while music historians have filled books with references to the influence of Westerners on Felas creation, little has been said about Felas inspiration on others. Thus, our compilation begins. Fela's music, and that of his organization inspired musicians across the global village when Afro-Beat was new and novel. This compilation focuses on the music Fela inspired - whether by fellow Nigerians recording alongside him in the early 70s, neighbors in Ghana, then-modern Colombian cumbia ensembles inspired by the man who injected a new feel into the Yoruban rhythms that formed cumbias base, Trinidadian steel bands or the select few organizations left that have maintained Felas fury in the new millennium. This is but a cursory investigation into those inspired by Fela Kuti's genius, but it is unique: the first time that many of these tracks are not only offered a second chance for worthy introspection, but, in the case of many, the first time they're being issued full stop. Compiler Egon has written extensive liner notes - and sourced never before seen Fela photos and other ephemera - for this project, included in the hardbound book that contains the CD. |
