0336752 LP BSR 2 B-OTHERSIDE	SUN OF GREECE - SUN OF GREECE (BLACK) SUN OF GREECE is one of the best kept secrets of the early 70s Greek psychedelic era. Their music is perfectly comparable with SOCRATES and FOUR LEVELS OF EXISTENCE with excellent hard psychedelic progressive sound, great fuzz guitars and hammond organ. The band was formed in Germany by three Greek expatriates and one German in 1972. Original Greek lyrics were written during military service under dictatorship in the early 70s. After the fall of the military junta, the band returned to Greece and released privately one of the rarest Greek singles ever, the holy grail for collectors of 70s Greek psychedelic progressive music. At the same time, they recorded several other songs, which were supposed to become their first album, but remained totally unreleased until today. TRUTH was a post-THEM Irish-American outfit consisting of 3 THEM members, who took part in the 2 TOWER LPs (Jim Armstrong, who according to wikipedia was voted third best guitarist in the world, Kenny McDowell and Ray Elliot), and 2 Americans (ex-Buckinghams Curtis Bachman and Reno Smith, ex-Baby Huey). 14 tracks, 68 minutes in total. These tracks from 1969-70 were unearthed in the early 90s and were released only on CD in 1995. 11 come from the master tapes, while the three last ones (from which unfortunately a very slight background noise could not be eliminated) come from the acetate of a studio session for a prospective Epic deal, that was never realized. Inspired by this, and by listening to music from the so called space-rock genre from the 70's, The Movements started to work on a theme album about the swedish space traveler. During 2008 and 2009 the band has been recording in their own Parkeringshuset Studio. The result is a musical story of space-rock noise, kraut-rock and swedish folk-music. August 7:th 2009 according to plans, Christer Fuglesang will once again go to space on the shuttle Discovery STS-128. In connection to this, The Movements will release the album For sardines space is no problem, named after the motto of Fuglesangs' class at astronaut education at NASA. The album will be released by Austrian label Sulatron Records. The Movements have during the recording been in contact with Swedish National Space Board to ask if Fuglesang wanted to participate himself on the album. Unfortunatly he hadn't got the time for that. Your typical 60's teenage ups & downs Boy/Girl song themes. Being mastered from old records, you'll definitely get that Pebbles lo-fidelity sound on this CD. The moody ballad, 'Please Don't Go' is pretty good and alternates its' slow/fast tempos back & forth well. The title track appears twice here, first as the band's only A-Side released single and secondly, as a similar sounding abet, a slightly slower early first version. Both are very typical but, very likeable 1965 Garage. It's B-side, Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' (and featured on Pebbles Volume 1) is given the Farfisa driven treatment with upbeat harmony vocals working very well as a Garage tune. 'Satellite' is a pleasant sounding 'Telstar' like instrumental which, reminded me of music you would've heard played in a 60's roller rink. 'You can't have my woman' their first demo from late 1964 is an atypical mid-tempo Garage rocker yet, features more guitar than their later Farfisa lead stuff. Muldaur uses the terrific team of raggy guitarists Del Rey and Steve James, who also plays some funky blues mandolin, on several songs, including "I Am Sailin," "Lookin' the World Over" and "Crazy Cryin' Blues," taken from Memphis Minnie's repertoire, as well as on Lucille Bogan's "Tricks Ain't Walking," a street walker's hard times lament from the days of the Great Depression. Another Memphis Minnie song, "She Put Me Outdoors," a dialogue between a woman and the man she's dumping, is done as a duet with Alvin Youngblood Hart. On several other songs including "Empty Bed Blues," "Ain't What You Used to Have," a duet with Mahal, and "I'm Goin' Back," a duet with Tracy Nelson, Muldaur convincingly recreates the piano-based blues of classic blues singers like Bessie Smith. The album ends with Muldaur and Mahal harmonizing on "Take a Stand," a Blind Willie Johnson Gospel song. Richland Woman Blues and Sweet Lovin' Ol' Soul are the finest moments in Muldaur's substantial discography. The trilogy's final installment has already been recorded and I eagerly await its release. On July 22, 2008, James "T Model" Ford stepped into Planet Paul Studios in Wichita, KS at the end of his first formal tour in years. Rumors of his demise had been laid to rest after two weeks of T-Model's performing his raw, rough, & tumble blues. T wanted to play acoustic guitar and have 100% control over the record, so everyone agreed he should do it the way he wanted. The engineer simply let the tapes roll & T-Model made it look easy. One song after another just rolled out of him. "The Ladies Man" is the product of this afternoon session in Wichita. This is pure T-Model, with some newer young musician friends playing along with him. It is also the only acoustic album T has ever recorded and it's a blast. "I don't have a care in the world," T-Model would remark occasionally. He'd back it up by taking time in the studio to sip Jack Daniels from his flask and tell "blue" stories or tales of his life's hardships to his new set of listeners.
