Second album of this great German band for the first time re-released on vinyl. The line-up had a little bit changed. Drummer Wolfgang Teske was replaced by Lucky Schmidt (of Wind fame) and due to the addition of violin player Christoph Krieger the sound was a touch more varied but mostly in the vein of "Humanum Est". Again great melodies, driving rhythms and lots of space for solos from guitar, sax and flute and in addition from violin. Long tracks like their classics "Mechelwind" and "Elephen Elephants" show the bands impressive ability to create atmosphere, passion and force. Absolutely great stuff. Great first album of near Nuremberg (Bavaria, Germany) based band re-released on vinyl for the first time. After he left famous "IHRE KINDER", guitarist Muck Groh looked for new musicians to play his idea of German progressive rock. With sax- and flute player Klaus Kreuzeder he found, after a lot of changing line-ups, a congenial partner to create a sound not only in the tradition of Bavaria jazz-rock oriented bands like Embryo, Out of Focus, Missus Beastly etc. but also with that certain Krautrock feel, that led the music to an unique style, originating as a highly inventive fusion band with strong percussion, driving rhythms and lots of space for solos from guitar, sax and flute (Crack in the cosmic egg). Humanum Est presented a most proficient instrumental band with a strong identity with multi-tracked guitar-riffing and near ever-present wind solos, a real classic of the genre. Long tracks like "Papa Doing", Demmerawang" "Hodibbel" or "Sechs-Achtel" give an idea what the musicians were able too. While there live-performances - they toured near all the time - they often played hour long versions of their classics to their enthusiastic affiliates (comparable to KRAAN). This reissue by Headstone, a hard rock quartet from Indiana was their only album release. They were discovered by a local producer from Ohio, who owned the label "Starr-Records" and went there to record "Still looking" (further they released 3 three non-lp 45 records, which are 6 bonustracks on this CD & 3 on LP). In the psychedelic underground collectors scene the album got established as a classic psych-hard-rock rarity. Their sound is strong and melodic with awesome guitar/organ leads, solid bass and catchy vocals. Their natural float creates a hypnotic atmosphere and makes you listen to this album again and again. at all their musical spirit is closer to the end 60s blend, than the recording year 1974 reflects, and sometimes they remind of the early Bloodrock stuff. Acid Archives (Patrick Lama): "The opening seven minute title track is a killer journey through local underground guitar psych, and there's plenty more good stuff aboard including some more lyrical moves. Limited vinyl release of one of the most legendary German small label pressed albums. Originally released in 1971, this album is an intense and bombastic hybrid between heavy fuzz acid guitar, instinctive free rock improvisations and some lyrical, classical influenced interludes/fragmentes. Mammut played in an impressive and comvincing manner their conception of an psychedelic rock opera. For that each title includes the name Mammut. The opening track ,Bird Mammut" is a groovy, percussive, crazy psychedelic affair featuring an avalanche of drums, trippy organs, bluesy e-guitar and wistfull flute passages. ,Classical Mammut" delivers a short piano interlude, a pleasant melodic moment. ,Mammut ecstacy" is a fuzzy heavy psychedelic composition with furious rhythms, an efficient bass guitar leading theme and some nice keyboard moves. ,Foot Machine Mammut" alternates a bluesy popsong with free guitar jams accompanied by Hammond organ. Perhaps parts of the first Embryo album are comparable to this. "Nahgarn Mammut" is their attempt to be more lyrical and melodic, while the album closes with 14 minutes of ,Mammut opera", which show Mammut at their best. Dark sounds with hints of Amon Duul II, heavy blues rock with all sorts of strange, ethnic and gothic touches combined in their music. Altough the band themselves quoted Deep Purple in Rock as a major influence, their spirit was purely krautrock. Their sole album is a legendary rarity. Four Decades after WOODSTOCK, these fabulous recording sessions see the light of day for the first time. This album contains 5 studio tracks from 1969, recorded at the popular 'Mu House' by the panhandle in San Francisco's Haight & Ashbury where the likes of Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Paul Butterfield Blues Band with Michael Bloomfield frequently played music. Plus, 2 live tracks from 1970 during their 'Hight Time' best! An added bonus of 4 songs from Banda de Jesus, (a band which included 3 original Naked Lunch members), recorded by David Rubinson & Fred Catero at Pacific Recording in San Mateo, CA circa 1972. To put it in a genre ... it blends the best of Latin Rock, with 'rare grooves, and tricky jazz/funk elements'. Highly addictive melodies, with emotional vocals, pulsating beats with floating conga rhythms, soaring electric guitar, whirling Hammond Organ, and a punchy Horn-duo, create powerful arrangements to set your home stereo ablaze. This release tells the story , musically, but also in extended linernotes, and rare photos (20p. booklet) the evolution of the band which was founded in the Summer of '69. Led by 16 year old Abel Zarate (Gtr & vocals) to become one of SF's hottest live acts in 1970 - a record deal with Bill Graham's Fillmore Records was in sight, but NL was too 'raw', and energetic to be reigned in and 'commercialized'. But now you hear it, remastered to a fresh dynamic sound from the original sesssion tapes. The trio from NL, Murray (trumpet), Spremich (drums), and Zarate took a huge part in helping to create the sound of Latin Rock group MALO, on their 1972 debut record, and helped that band become one of the premier Latin Rock groups of the era.... HERE ARE THEIR ROOTS! The sum of the music, and the intensity of these recordings can be compared to SANTANA'S Woodstock performance, with a bit of Hendrix-vibe, and Blood, Sweat & Tears influence. Now also available as limited vinyl version. 2nd and follow up album to the highly acclaimed debut 'Ajatuksia Maailman Laidalta' by Finnish PROGRESSIVE rock band that's rooted in all that's progressive from the early 70's. "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents") is the first full-lenght album of the current, now 3-year old Viima line-up. Transition from female to male singer has considerably affected the bands new sound. The same applies to the flute and the soprano sax played by the new frontman. Viima, which rehearses in Turku, Finland, has five members and two them are professional musicians. Compositions of the Finnish-singing Viima contain large instrumental parts (one of the tracks is entirely instrumental), but the lyrics also play an important role. Part of the texts are Finnish poetry from the early 20th century, the rest of them are rock lyrics of today. The guitarist and the original member, Mikko Uusi-Oukari, and the new members vocalist Hannu Hiltula and drummer Mikko Väärälä have composed all the tracks for the album. The keyboard player Kimmo Lähteenmki, who wrote several tracks for the first album, was busy with his studies and could not participate in composing. Aapo Honkanen, member since 2005, plays the bass guitar. The title track of the spacious sounding album, "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents"), combines the history of the city of Turku with story of the characters life in the city and in the archipelago. The title refers to the way the story handles and modifies the truth. Part of the text is based on reality and the rest reflects it in its own way. On the other hand the name also refers to a perfect moment by the warm and calm sea when the moon is shining and is reflected from the glassy sea. Viima's musical style can be defined as 70s-influenced symphonic folk-prog. No heavy guitar walls can be heard. Instead the sound world is enriched with a violin quartet and nature sounds. The band has also used some original keyboards, like the Mellotron, Rhodes-piano, Hammond-organ and analog synthesizers. The recording of "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" took two years. The reason for the long period is mainly due to scheduling. The recordings were interrupted by the bands other projects, like participation to concept and tribute albums ("Kalevala", "Inferno" ja "Tuonen Tytär II" by Colossus/Musea Records), and in general the so-called real life, work etc. The album was recorded in parts, but the majority has been recorded between June-November 2008. Double CD unites absolute rarities of famous German band Aera. AERA founded in 1972 by "Ihre Kinder" guitarist Muck Groh and 2066 & Then keyboard player Steve Robinson were in their very beginnings, when they recorded their special extended version (26 minutes) "Mechelwind Suite" of their later classic title "Mechelwind" (on album "Hand und Fuss", LHC 44, vinyl-edition). The Mechelwind Suite is divided into 5 parts and is rather different from the later album-version, not only because of Steve Robinsons excellent keyboard playing but also because of Muck Grohs fine guitar playing and Klaus Kreuzeders pleasant sax tunes. CD 1 finishes with two SWF-recordings "Hodibbel" and "Mechelwind" from Oktober 1973 again with 2066 & Then keyboarder Steve Robinson. CD 2 contains a live performance of AERA from 23.12.1973 with the same line up as on CD 1. Highlights are the 15-minutes-version of "Hodibbel" and 12-minutes-version of "Papa Doing". Joe Beck, one of the most famous jazz guitar players, recorded this album with fellow Donald McDonald on drums and among guest musicians is Danny Whitten, guitar player of Crazy Horse before they worked together with Neil Young. On this album Beck, influenced by Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, created a song-oriented psychedelic rock style with slightly jazz influences showing his remarkable guitar skills, including some fine Wah-Wah treatments. But - and thats a big but - before you start thinking this is some kind of chin-stroking slab of "serious" music custom-designed for the arts-grant/wine-&-cheese circuit, let it be known that this is Mr. Dave Brown at the helm. Apsomeophone brings together the worlds of "composition" and rock, a meeting point of low- and high-art, a collision of the electric and the acoustic (and the occasional electro-acoustic). In it ye shall find moments of Derek Baileyesque guitar destruction, looped guitar twangs, repetitive, percussive chimes, drones, Japanese film samples, doom-laden power chords and out-of-nowhere noises leaping and disappearing in a moments notice - all cut and spliced with a masterly precision. Play it loud and the effect is awesome. The point? If this was released in 68 with a Wergo label stamped on its LP sleeve, youd probably skip a few meals to grab it, bragging to your socially-challenged collector friends of your score for the next fortnight. First time available on CD, Cold Sun from Austin, Texas was recorded in 1970 in the legendary Sonobeat studios, where the Mariani and Johnny Winter first LPs were produced. The Cold Sun band are considered contemporaries of Velvet Underground and The Fugs, often listed as being in a similar vein but inspirations for this unique piece actually go back to the desperated, haunted Joe Meek. All songs lyrically express dark, mystic poetry with the true 60s psychedelic floating/distorted fuzz spirit presented in short compact mini-epics along with several mind blowing long tunes, such as "Ra-Ma" (11 min), "Here In The Year" (9 min) and "Fall" (7 min). Discovered by Rockadelic Records of Dallas, Texas in 1991, the Dark Shadows album saw the light of day the next year as a limited LP version, to become today one of the most important and revered US psychedelic underground albums from the early 70s. ---(Rockadelic heard it in the form of an old scratchy acetate that one of the Cold Sun band members had made in order to be able to play the recording at friendsparties on their turntables. Dark Tooth Encounter is the name of the new music project from Yawning Man/Ten East lynchpin, Gary Arce, and drummer extraordinaire, Ten Easts Bill Stinson. Although joined by Scott Reeder (Kyuss, Obsessed, etc.) and Mario Lalli (Across The River, Fatso Jetson, etc.) on a few of the seven tracks on their debut album, Soft Monsters, the approach is much more experimental and cerebral than many of the players previous work, sounding like an update on the classic 70s art-rock of Eno. With Gary supplying guitars (inc. lap steel) throughout, as well as keyboards and electronics, along with the metronomic beats of Bill Stinson and contributions from Lalli and Reeder, Dark Tooth Encounter remain a unique proposition. Purely instrumental, and aided by the astonishing production and studio work of Mike Shear, their music is a mixture of several different elements. There are two almost rootsy-sounding tracks in "Weeping Pines" and "Engine Drone" (a 9-minute epic which remains the albums centrepiece and masterstroke, a phenomenal work that brings to mind the acid-fried guitar workouts the Meat Puppets once perfected); a breezy space-rock number such as "Deep Sleep Flower", which borders on My Bloody Valentine shoegazer territory; the minimalist, aggressive drive of "Radio Bleed"; and the quieter, plaintive passages in "Alloy Pop" and "Hyper Air". Anyone with an interest in post-punk instrumental rock will get a kick out of Soft Monsters. Their sound incorporates small elements of the players other outfits, sure, but theres also hints of math-rock, prog and shades of country-rock and psychedelia. DTE have already caught the ears of Ash Ra Tempels Manuel Gottsching and Pell Mells Steve Fisk, both of whom wish to work with the band in the future, but for now you have Soft Monsters, an album sure to be loved by stoners and art-rockers alike. His father is a modern jazz drummer and his mother, a jazzsinger who grew up in the family of Bobbie Jones, known for his work with Charles Mingus, so he grew up in a musical surrounding and knows Marja since his childhood. On oud and guitar Andy Rust who knows much about Indian culture and is with Embryo since some years. The third electric guitar is played by Bjorn Eric Munz from Ensemble ORIENT-EXPRESS, also good friends of Embryo. On Percussion Norbert Keck who had been playing with the band almost on all the Herzberg gigs in the last years. This CD presents a rawer electric set by Embryo - (cause the wet and cold wind at the Festival weekend made it too hard to tune the acoustic instruments! The iLLiad is a young quintet from Ohio. A creatively produced demo put World In Sounds attention to the band leader Kyle Pittman, an introverted and deeply emotional singer and guitarist. "A Sad Day on Pluto" was recorded in Cleveland, Ohio (2007) and contains 13 original tunes reflecting a tasty spectrum between early Pink Floyd jamming, 60s garage/flower-power and loner Folk style, and feature very catchy lyrics combined with interesting "psychedelicate" melodies. Pittmans music captures a unique style of composing fresh music with the influences of Syd Barretts Pink Floyd, West Coast Pop Art Exp. Band, Velvet Underground, Marc Bolan and David Bowie. The mixing, mostly done by Pittman himself is truly a "trip in time" - a total stereo-experimental" 60s style like Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn! Amazingly underrated French neo-psychedelic band. Arised from the ashes of The Heretic Dreams Murder in the Cathedral was found in the beginning of the 90ties by Brothers Stephane (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Pascal Moru (bass, keyboards) and drummer Gilles Lepron. Influenced by new groups like Plasticland, Prisoners and in the tradition of 13th Floor Elevator, Chocolate Watchband or Plastic Cloud, the boys tried to create their own sound. Their first eponymous album (entired as Bonusalbum on this CD), released in 1996, shows a mixture of guitar-oriented neo-psyche in the vein of Plastic Cloud, Morgen and Grateful Dead. It consists of 8 titles, instrumental pieces alternating with vocal (sung in English) ones. It was very positively received in the neo-psychedelic underground and the limited edition of 500 was sold out within a few months. 2nd album "Afraid of." saw the light of day in 1999. Now the music is much more structured and contains less jam-like passages. According to the reviewers the crucial sound influences rage from the Byrds to Bevis Frond, combing the San Francisco acid sound of the 60ties with oriental sounds. Again the album (limited edition of 500) was sold out within a few months. All titles are digitally remastered from original tape. Great lost band from Frankfurt, Germany. In 1973/1974 Papa Zoot Band played all over Germany, mainly in clubs but also on festivals (German Pop Meeting 1st and 2nd February 1974 in Essen, Grugahalle). Lutz Sommer guitar, Robby Matthes bass, voc, Reinhard "Tammy" Grohe organ (Ex-Nosferatu !) and Christian Engel drums, voc. played mainly long tracks, very melodic but also with a sense of drama comparable to Nektar, Eloy, Jane or Pink Floyd. Outstanding 20 minutes title "Fly away" could be a long track by Pink Floyd of the Meddle/Wish you were here/Animals-era without being an imitation. The other two long tracks "I Wish" (9 minutes) and "Friendship or Love" (11 minutes) also show throughout fantastic guitar and organ work (as you know it from "Nosferatu" album). Unbelievable that Papa Zoot Band never made an album. 4 Years after they called it a day, Papa Zoot Band played in early 1978 a sole reunion concert at there basic venue "Sinkkasten" in Frankfurt. No progressive rock music fan should be misled by the album title "Jazz macht Spazz", a bowdlerization of "jazz makes fun", this is progressive jazz-rock at its best. Budi Siebert (flutes and saxes), Herbert Binder (gt), Frank Fischer (bass), later with Release Music Orchestra, Thomas Rabenschlag (keys) and drummer Bea Maier (later with Zomby Woof and Moira), all well trained on the instruments, played a varied, inventive, melodic and often furious kind of music with lots of Krautrock magic influenced by Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Soft Machine and Weather Report. 5 titles on this CD were recorded at German radio station SWF, 2 titles are live recordings (taped from the soundboard), all in all 77 minutes of great flute and sax playing, furious and lyrical guitar and bass work, hypnotic rhythm patterns and perfect keyboard sounds. Hard to believe, that Puppenhaus never recorded an album. In 1980 Budi Siebert with friends recorded an album under the name "Herrgottsax", which also will be released in the next month on Long Hair. Heres what ya need to know... Ten East started up in the mid 00s as a semi-improvised outfit and an excuse for old friends to get together, jam it out and put some tunes to tape. It wasnt long before they caught the ears of Alone Records out of Spain, who then released their debut longplayer, Extraterrestrial Highway (since re-released by Lexicon Devil: LEXDEV019). On that album, the band was Gary Arce (YAWNING MAN, SORT OF QUARTET), Brant Bjork (KYUSS, FU MANCHU, etc.), Mario Lalli (ACROSS THE RIVER, FATSO JETSON, etc.) and Bill Stinson (GREG GINNS HOR, CHUCK DUKOWSKI SEXTET). They completed a successful tour of Europe with Greg Ginn (BLACK FLAG, GONE, etc.) filling in on bass for Bjork, then regrouped in late 07 to record The Robots Guide To Freedom. The line-up here is a veritable stoner-punk supergroup: Arce, Lalli and Stinson, and joining them are Scott Reeder (KYUSS, OBSESSED, etc.) on bass; on guitar there is acclaimed six-stringer Bryan Giles (LAST OF THE JUANITAS, RED FANG, etc.) and Greg Ginn himself with guitar (and organ) on almost half the tracks. Recorded at Ginns SST studio over several months, TRGTF sees Ten East branching out in heavier, more aggressive territory than their first release, as well as tempering the brute attack with forays into more ethereal space-rock and 60s/70s-style psych jams. The music is a perfect encapsulation of the "scenes" these individual members helped create: the ferocious punk squawl of Ginns frenetic, free-jazz-inspired riffs which set California ablaze some 25 years ago, combined with the scorched desert-rock of stoner pioneers Yawning Man, Fatso Jetson and Kyuss. The music of Ten East is dense, multi-layered and worthy of many repeated listens. Lead songwriter Gary Arce has the knack for penning a totally non-generic riff - such riffs born from his love of the guitar work of Ginn, Eno, Steve Fisk, surf music and Tom Verlaine - and creating a truly lyrical piece of music, one which makes one forget that Ten East dont and likely never will require a vocalist. The appearance of Yawning Man, Kyuss, Fatso Jetson and Black Flag members all in one band should make you stand up and take notice. Anyone into the sounds of such bands, or the manic prog freakouts of early 70s King Crimson, the surf twang of the Ventures, the spaced grooves of Guru Guru and Amon Duul, or the peyote- fried guitar work of primo Meat Puppets will find something in the music of Ten East. Peter Thorup well known Danish Blues-Rock musician gained an international reputation because of his cooperation with Blues icon Alexis Korner in New Church, CCS and Snape in the early 70s. After he dispended his first Band The Beefeaters in 1969, Thorup was helped by some old friends from famous Danish groups Young Flowers, Burning Red Ivanhoe, The Beefeaters, Rainbow Band to record ,Wake Up Your Mind" in February and March 1970. 13 titles were recorded of which 7 found its way on in 1970 on Philips released album ,Wake up Your Mind". The music was not restricted to just Blues-Rock and consequently this release had a much wider appeal as the rest of Peter Thorups efforts. The album reflects the musicians good reputation and it is rather a band project than a solo effort. 2nd and follow up album to the highly acclaimed debut 'Ajatuksia Maailman Laidalta' by Finnish PROGRESSIVE rock band that's rooted in all that's progressive from the early 70's. "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents") is the first full-lenght album of the current, now 3-year old Viima line-up. Transition from female to male singer has considerably affected the bands new sound. The same applies to the flute and the soprano sax played by the new frontman. Viima, which rehearses in Turku, Finland, has five members and two them are professional musicians. Compositions of the Finnish-singing Viima contain large instrumental parts (one of the tracks is entirely instrumental), but the lyrics also play an important role. Part of the texts are Finnish poetry from the early 20th century, the rest of them are rock lyrics of today. The guitarist and the original member, Mikko Uusi-Oukari, and the new members vocalist Hannu Hiltula and drummer Mikko Väärälä have composed all the tracks for the album. The keyboard player Kimmo Lähteenmki, who wrote several tracks for the first album, was busy with his studies and could not participate in composing. Aapo Honkanen, member since 2005, plays the bass guitar. The title track of the spacious sounding album, "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" ("Two Crescents"), combines the history of the city of Turku with story of the characters life in the city and in the archipelago. The title refers to the way the story handles and modifies the truth. Part of the text is based on reality and the rest reflects it in its own way. On the other hand the name also refers to a perfect moment by the warm and calm sea when the moon is shining and is reflected from the glassy sea. Viima's musical style can be defined as 70s-influenced symphonic folk-prog. No heavy guitar walls can be heard. Instead the sound world is enriched with a violin quartet and nature sounds. The band has also used some original keyboards, like the Mellotron, Rhodes-piano, Hammond-organ and analog synthesizers. The recording of "Kahden Kuun Sirpit" took two years. The reason for the long period is mainly due to scheduling. The recordings were interrupted by the bands other projects, like participation to concept and tribute albums ("Kalevala", "Inferno" ja "Tuonen Tytär II" by Colossus/Musea Records), and in general the so-called real life, work etc. The album was recorded in parts, but the majority has been recorded between June-November 2008. The band known as Yawning Sons is the result of a unique collaboration. Californian desertrock veteran Gary Arce (YAWNING MAN/TEN EAST/FATSO JETSON/DARK TOOTH ENCOUNTER etc.) was flown out to the UK to produce an album by the Kentbased instrumental riff-rock quartet, SONS OF ALPHA CENTAURI. Upon the first day of working in the studio, it was clear that a new direction was to be taken: Gary and the band would work together and write and record their own collaborative album within the space of a week. The weeks work bore fruit in the form of seven incredible instrumental tracks whose sound was caught somewhere in the musical netherworlds of Yawning Man, Sonic Youth, Can and early Pink Floyd. Over the course of the next few months, more additions were made to the recording, including extra guitar overdubs from Arce, as well as vocals from Scott Reeder (KYUSS/OBSESSED), Mario Lalli (FATSO JETSON) and Wendy Rae Fowler (MARK LANEGAN BAND/UNKLE/EARTHLINGS?). The results are sublime. From the soaring vocals of Fowler on the opener, "Ghostship - Deadwater", which has the fuzz n sheen of Loveless-period MBV, to the drone-laden vocals of Reeder on "Garden Sessions III", which is like a blend of More-period Floyd and 80s Meat Puppets, through to the extended guitar workouts on the Lalli-helmed "Meadows", right on through to the chiming guitars and metronomic drums on the closer, "Japanese Garden", Ceremony To The Sunset will prove to be a revelation to fans of any and every of the artists involved, and will appeal greatly to lovers of Kraut/psych/desert-rock. JOHNNY REBB and The REBELS One of Australia's first R 'n' R stars Johnny Rebb had several hit records and he and his band were very popular at R 'n' R dances in Sydney. He was known as the 'Gentleman' of Rock. Johnny Rebb and his band, the Rebels, are in many ways the lost tribe of the 1950's. His name rarely comes up on the oldies playlists, yet his career was as vital as anyone's. They kicked off with "Rebel Rock/Johnny B Goode" with HMV, before finding a home at Leedon and making the classic "Hey Sheriff/Noline" His biggest hit followed, "Pathway To Paradise", advanced for it's time with some interesting tempo variations. JOHNNY REBB and The REBELS One of Australia's first R 'n' R stars Johnny Rebb had several hit records and he and his band were very popular at R 'n' R dances in Sydney. He was known as the 'Gentleman' of Rock. Johnny Rebb and his band, the Rebels, are in many ways the lost tribe of the 1950's. His name rarely comes up on the oldies playlists, yet his career was as vital as anyone's. They kicked off with "Rebel Rock/Johnny B Goode" with HMV, before finding a home at Leedon and making the classic "Hey Sheriff/Noline" His biggest hit followed, "Pathway To Paradise", advanced for it's time with some interesting tempo variations. When things turned quiet Johnny went solo and spent time in America. He released some brilliant sides at this time "Think Me A Kiss" "L-O-V-E-V-I-L-L-E" "How Will It End" and "There You Go". You ought to see grandma rock - Skeets Mcdonald: 1956 Capitol session, superb backing (with young Eddie Cochran on guitar) and Skeets strained vocal being perfect for frantic rockabilly. 14. Fleener of sage and sand records playing the clubs in Los Angeles. Nice vocals, piano and guitar for this B side of the wild Yah! I'm movin release. 21. Hep Cat - Larry Terry: Very pricely in collectors circles as a testa 45. Extremely wild with a full rocking backing from 1960/61. Testa was tied up with Ozark records from Normandy, Missouri. 22. Ice cold baby - Marlon "Madman" Mitchell & the Rocketeers Vena records of Madison, Alabama. Super little shuffling rockabilly with tight backing and an "out of breath" vocal. 23. 16 Cats - Joey Michaels: Released on Arcade records from Philadelphia in 1957, it's got to be one of the best rockers to come from that much maligned city. Written by Rusty Keefer and Bill Haley, its an excellent track, nervous feel, the backing and vocal are first rate. 24. Sitting on top of the world - Curtis Gordon: This version cut for Mercury merit a place in anyones collection. Fantastic dance tempo. 25. Australian import. "The hearts" CD turned out full length and now a recent discovery means the Wild Cherries will also be a monster. The Wild Cherries was the second of Lobby Loydes (Australias first guitar hero, the guy who taught thorpie to play) 1960s bands and the one he wrote all their festival sides for. After the Purple Hearts and Missing Links CDS, this one will be just as highly sought after. thats life features 24 tracks (1965-68) from the legendary Wild Cherries, including 16 previously unreleased recordings, plus a 36 page booklet. renowned australian film sound recorder Lloyd Carrick has unearthed one of the first recordings he made on his trusty nagra reel to reel recorder. Back in 1966 he set up his recording equipment at the Fat Black Pussycat club in Melbourne and captured a full set by his mates the Wild Cherries! As you will soon hear the band were on fyre (sic), with Mal Mcgee blasting out the lead guitar, John Bastow on screaming vocals, Les Gilbert going mad on his home-made cut down cello bass (that Bill Wyman wanted to buy!) and the late Keith Barber kicking it along on drums. Great sound quality too, as you would expect from Lloyd. This live recording is a major find: a truly rare document of a mid-60s beat band in their natural environment. Scene Is Now (TSIN) were formed at the dawn of the 1980s by Philip Dray and Chris Nelson, a band born from the ashes of No Wave trio, Information (the third partner of that outfit being Rick Brown). Influenced equally by the ragged avant-folk sounds of the Holy Modal Rounders and the Fugs, the screech of DNA and Mars, and the traditional Americana of Bob Wills and Hoagy Carmichael, TSIN instantly set themselves apart from the pack. Their music was an indefinable mixture of the old and new, the impenetrable and the accessible and the weird and wonderful. Some folks compared 'em to the Red Krayola or Pere Ubu, some to SST outfits such as the Meat Puppets and Slovenly, and some people even hail them as the world's finest No Wave jug band. The point is this: between the years 1984 and 1988 they released three magnificent albums on their own label, Lost (the last two being in co-operation with the Twin/Tone label), which have been out of print for a dog's age and never seen the light of day on compact disk. Until now. If you like the music of their fans - Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo (who covered an old TSIN track on their Fakebook LP) - the music of their peers - Mofungo, Pere Ubu, dBs, Fish & Roses, The Feelies - or the sounds of their acknowledged influences - DNA, Sun Ra, Red Krayola, Minutemen - you'll love the music of The Scene Is Now. Part two (of three) of their reissue series documenting the great works of New Yorks The Scene Is Now from the 1980s. This time around its their sophomore album from 1986, Total Jive. TSIN started out in the early 80s, born from the ashes of No Wave outfit, Information (recently documented in Thurston Moore and Byron Coleys No Wave book), by Philip Dray and Chris Nelson. Joined by Dick Champ and Jeff McGovern, they went on to release three LPs in that decade which remain amazing and scarcelyheard gems from Underground America. With a sound which was distinctly New York - equal parts Velvets/Feelies strum, angular geekoid rock a la Television/Talking Heads and choppy avant rhythms straight from the No Wave - the band also melded influences from such disparate sources (The Fall, Minutemen, Bob Wills) that they remain a tough band to musically pin down. They truly are/were a unique blend of the avant-garde and the traditional. Total Jive was originally released on the bands own Lost label in 1986, manufactured and distributed by the Twin/Tone label. Roughly half of the tracks are produced by downtown wiz-kid, Elliott Sharp, and it has never been issued on CD before. This version is fully remastered from the original master tapes and features a 12-page full-colour booklet with never-seen-before photos of the band from the period, as well as liner notes by Lexicon Devil honcho, Dave Lang. The 1980s produced a lot of great underground sounds from the US of A, and The Scene Is Now is certainly one of them begging for some much-deserved 21stcentury recognition.. Yawning Man have been around as an on-and-off-again project for guitarist Gary Arce (Ten East, Sort Of Quartet, Fatso Jetson) and drummer Alfredo Hernandez (Kyuss, QOTSA) for over 20 years, and stand as a defining influence on the so-called "desert-rock" scene which inspired the likes of Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age. Yawning Man, however, are quite a different musical beast from those they inspired. Drawing heavily from the SST roster of artists which set the world ablaze in the 1980s - Black Flag, Minutemen, Meat Puppets - their music is caught in the nexus of surf, psychedelia, krautrock and the spaghetti western soundscapes of Ennio Morricone. Or, if you will, a missing link between the worlds of Dick Dale, Syds Floyd, instrumental Black Flag and Pell Mell. On these recordings, Yawning Man also features the bass duties of Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson, Ten East) and Billy Cordell (Unida), and the levels of interplay between all players are sublime. One listen to a song such as "Perpetual Oyster" will convince you that Yawning Man are onto something very special indeed. The sheer lyricism of the playing demonstrates their total lack of need for a vocalist. 		POP/ROCK

Issued as an edition of 500 copies in a full receive book bound sleeve. 3 Decades of sound tracking the secret psychedeli-sphere has found Edward scoring an imaginary film. Edwards music for the movie flows with measured, stygian force; the groaning rises punctuated by that old black magic that only Ka-Spel can conjure with the smallest of sounds permeating every wave. Loops trill and sigh within virtuoso keyboard cameos. A myriad of miniature minuets thread backwards and beneath the main thematic pulses. Edwards dark ambience is non-ambivalent, however, which gives it a lifes breath beyond the realm of film music. The album certainly generates excitement as to what images might accompany such a skewed, sonic construction. But no movie is needed to find prophet from these starry sounds. 		EXPERIMENTAL

In the terpsichorean tradition of traumatizing and titillating treacalese collector geeks the world over, Beta-lactam presents a limited LP release by Nurse With Wound. This is a full fledged, full length, full bodied album of previously unreleased material, and just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder... It would seem that the musty odour exuded by pierced rectums is exhilarating; even scintillating. With rounds of disembodied voices, arias of crackle and rumble, jets of ascendant and descendant sound, bursts of silent, nurse wounding flak worthy of The Great Cage, well, if my thermometer reads correctly, "Rectums" is not unlike "Gyllensköld" in its sonic attacks and rectal decays. I find it especially enlightening with Ann-Margret singing in the background on the television, but you will realise hours of listening pleasure even without the random Ann-Margret caveat. Honestly though, Volks, if'n I heard this record and did not know who it was, I would buy it on the spot because it just happens to be AWESOME, dude. All I'm saying is that thy ear drum is worth piercing with the "Musty Odour Of Pierced Rectums," possibly whilst driving around in a Pierce-Arrow reading Pears Anthony with, of course, a butt plug firmly and resolutely installed. Hoodoo Man Blues was one of the first electric Chicago blues albums that was actually conceived as an album rather than a collection of singles. This is definitely Junior Wells's best full-length LP. The record sounds as if it was recorded in a small club, and the sound fidelity is very good too having been recorded in stereo. There is a definite funk feel to the record which shows that the influence of James Brown was not far removed. Wells's version of "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" was especially good. The record features ace guitarist Buddy Guy, drummer Billy Warren, bassist Jack Myers, and harpist/frontman Junior Wells. 		VINTAGE BLUES/R&B
