But after many failed recording attemps, and rescheduled recording/mixing dates 'Isolation' is finally ready for the masses. 'Isolation' contains 13 songs of what the band describes as "neo dada noise." That's not a far off description, but they definately have their roots firmly planted in punk rock. They take different aspects of the Urinals, Human Hands, Mentally Ill, Simply Saucer and the Electric Eels and put it through their own paranoid, unblanced filter. Anyway they have not included the first demo "No one can stop advance" that I consider also very great. In a different way the songs of the first demo were less fast hardcore and more lo-fi punk, similar to Urinals, some Chain Gang, Killed By Death, Messthetics compilation style stuff. "The day after" is a great lo-fi new wave punk song, and others like "NATO" or "Eenheidsworst" could easily be done by the Pagans, but recording with 4-track of course! This is pure classic! Conga conga!! Limited to 330 copies. First release on the new Spanish label Burka For Everybody Records.

As the name already suggests this group of Dutch musicians, led by Dr. Azmayesh, study the essence of Sufism, of which rhythms and music are an integral part. These studies eventually resulted in the release of their CDs ("Fly Fly" being their third), which are all about the mysteries of inner rhythms and mystic poetry. This music is a truly spiritual affair, with mellow hypnotic rhythms from the daf (a Persian hand drum) and other percussive instruments, gentle vocals, piano and flute. The atmosphere of Fly Fly will strongly appeal to anyone interested in world music, but also to the growing number of fans of contemporary folk and the sounds and vibes of the New Awareness. Amazing, certainly when you realize it was recorded live in a church (without audience) in one day. Coming with a full-colour booklet featuring special artwork, all the lyrics in Persian and English the history of the mystical rhythms and a biography of the Simorg Sufi Ensemble. Simorg Sufi Ensemble already performed their music in various European countries and are highly regarded for their authentic yet unique approach and personality.

When the first one showed up in my mailbox in '05, it was just what I was waiting to hear. The underground had drifted so far into abstract space that I was longing for something direct and simple. That first record was a magic whirl of early Modern Lovers, Big Star, and Flamin' Groovies circa '72--but with a casual no-fi vibe that sounded closer to the first couple Harry Pussy singles. Huh?! Yeah. Just about (non-)perfect! On this new Home Blitz CD release, Gulcher Records has collected those first two singles (way out of print), material from a cassette release, a new HB 12" EP, and two otherwise unavailable tracks. From the first single, "Apocalyptic Grades 2005" is a powerpop/postpunk hybrid with guitars that sound like the Fall circa '78 covering the Flamin' Groovies. On the very bratty "AC S.S.," it sounds to me like early Screamin' Mee-Mees crossed with early Modern Lovers. But my favorite from that first 7" is "Hey!" It comes on as if Big Star's RADIO CITY had been recorded under the more addled conditions of Alex Chilton's LIKE FLIES ON SHERBERT. It starts like a great noise-drenched powerpop anthem--"I got the gift that keeps on givin'/It's called electric guitar!"--but soon stops midstream. "I gotta get some gum," the singer complains.
