BYG's first Daevid Allen release was 'Est-Ce Que Je Suis' (confusingly / alternatively titled 'Garcon Ou Fille') which sounds like a Nino Ferrer spoof with freeform soprano sax bursts! The B-side, 'Hip Hypnotise You' is saturated with all the futuristic elements that Gong would become famous for throughout the '70s.

Having released a series of 7" singles that range from psychedelic, pop and even heavy funk, collectors are pushing one another aside in an attempt to obtain his legendary work. While his psychedelic guitars and flutes have collectors drooling at the mouth, his heavy funk moments can be heard rocking dance floors in clubs across the world. This album, his sole lp release "African Jumbo", is both the rarest, and most in demand album from Iran, dated sometime in the mid 70s. The 11+ minute track "African Jumbo" is not only a masterpiece of psychedelic funk, but is also only available on this sole and impossibly hard to find album. A simply wonderful experience full of beautiful sitars and flutes, while heavy drums, horns and percussion help fill out the wonderful melodies. Mehrpouya's talents weren't limited to traditional instruments either. He was known to have invented original instruments from bones and other natural materials, while using pots as a replacement for drums. Truly a magical album from a legendary artist within Iran's musical history, and one that is near impossible to source as an original. Released in 1968 in Argentina by a label called Phonexa, the Schibbinz album could be regarded as the ultimate teen garage folk-rock album ever. An album of fragile beauty, full of teen charm, innocent vocals, jangly guitars, charming lo-fi sound and lost-in-time atmosphere. It has the look and sound that can only be found on some USA 60s private pressings like Rising Storm or Summer Sounds. But Schibbinz music is something else. So now we're proud to present this wonderful and mega-rare album to the world, in a production counting with the bands involvement and assistance. Still marked by their experimental excursions into the realms of sound art and remixes, however, it was also an eccentric and gloomy work, combining tender melodic pieces with ghostly drones and surreal collages. White Nights: Glowing Lights is a direct continuation of its predecessor's approach, but places even greater importance on the band's talents as intuitive songsmiths. As a result, the focus of these occasionally no more than two minute long tracks is firmly on acoustic guitars and Peter van Vliet's voice, with organs, sitars, tablas as well as an array of vintage analogue synthesizers providing a colourful backdrop. The dark, claustrophobic and nightmare-like ambiance of The Hand Of Tzafkiël has evaporated and given way to a more luminous, airy and laminar sound - especially so in floating instrumental sections filled with undulating harmonics and dreamy mellotron melodies. As has been revealed, the record is the second volume in an ambitious cycle of interconnected releases. The Use Of Ashes have certainly entered a new period of prolific productivity after a relatively quiet phase spent with re-evaluating the future of the project: even though glowing lights contains enough ideas to see other bands through an entire career, yet more white nights material is to follow soon. The second release by Starless & Bible Black is an album which brings together the sounds of Topanga Canyon country rock, Manchester guitar jangle and outer-space psychedelic drones. Gone are the dulcimers and banjos of the first album, replaced instead by a harder wall of Telecaster and Moog and sitting in the centre of this bold, widescreen sound resides the pure and husky voice of their chanteuse, Helene Gautier. Recorded at Bryn Derwen in the wilds of the Snowdonian mountains and during all-night sessions in the relative tranquility of their local village hall, "Shape Of The Shape" is an album of contrasting styles, themes and approaches that coheres beautifully into a seamless whole. From sweltering swamp rock to gothic bluesy chanson via unplugged rustic balladry, a jazz-folk tinged instrumental and a sprawling nine-minute psych-choral drone opus the album traverses many different takes on the genre but never loses sight of the importance of a classic tune.

During this time the band continued to write songs and played numerous live shows with their studio technician (now a full time member of the band) filling the spot. Also in this period the band attracted another band member to perform live bass guitar on stage. Together they worked on a new album which was finished earlier this year after the lost member was back from the USA. This record is Irish Recording Tape. On this record the band has been perfecting their sound and song writing skills. Maybe the songs have been become more accessible in a way but they still show the typical style of Agent Side Grinder: drilling industrial sounds which may remind sometimes of Swans, hypnotic synth sequences that refer to krautrock and psychedelic music and post-punk influenced bass lines which will give you flashbacks to Joy Division. This started as a way to keep working together while one of the members was in the USA. Sounds and music where put to tape and send over the Atlantic Ocean and re-worked their and sent back again to Sweden. In the end this resolved into an unique album with amazing music. The Transatlantic Tape Project is a blending of 60s psychedelic music and 80s experimental industrial muzak which is molded into original contemporary ambient music. Maybe it is better to call this electronic Chamber Music as it is much richer in texture then ambient music. Think about a soundtrack for a David Lynch film, think early Cabaret Voltaire and think elements of Velvet Underground and you can maybe get an idea of the actual sound of this record. 1996. Drekka produces its first fruits, two very differenty cassettes entitled Grieve (in august) and windowframe EP/ Hermitage one EP (in December. The first captures the grief of loss, the hope of love and the sounds of a vast empty New England house. The second captures a cramped, but cozy apartment and the first Chicago winter. 1996-2009: Drekka has tours extensively in Europe as well as the US (with like-minded artists such as Jessica Bailiff, Iditarod, In Gowan Ring, Annelies Monseré, Rivulets, Stone Breath, Vollmar, and releases a bunch of items on Morc, Bluesanct, Digitalis Industries, and has comp tracks on a.o. Secret Eye, Drag City...Anderson also runs Bluesanct, responsible for releases by Black Forest/Black Sea, Boduf Songs, Cindytalk, Iditarod, In Gowan Ring, Low, Pantaleimon and many more. 2009. 13 winters later, Morc Records out of Gent, Belgium, issues a 2CD set entitled Drekka - "Someday I will be called upon regarding matters of tone - Collected Works - Volume One", containing both cassettes in their entirety, plus all extant DREKKA recordings from 1996... This 2CD is a one-time pressing, and comes in gorgeous cardboard packaging, including a 24 page booklet, handbound by Mr. Drekka himself.

Released in 1971, under the blanket of library music anonymity, "Jungle Obsession" is one of those rare and precious records whose extraordinary personality is instantly recognised by the ear of the listener. Timeless.luminous. Its high time one of the greatest instrumental records of the 70s was rediscovered. A demanding effort, unfaltering coherent, bordering somewhere along solar exoticism and primitive psychedelics and entirely focused upon the beauty and mysteries of Kiplings Jungle Book in its hunt for a fascinating artistic El Dorado. Leading this musical expedition, we find two of library musicsgreats, the amazing Roger Roger (1911-1995) and Nino Nardini (1912-1994). These outstanding conductors, with already substantial careers behind them, also take the role of mad scientists in the legendary Ganaro Studio, the marvellous Jouy-en- Josas-based lab at the heart of which the two magicians have attempted some of the most wonderful musical experiences ever carried out in France. Going beyond dominant current music styles, they blend genres and dare unprecedented mixes with obvious success. "Jungle Obsession" is the undeniable proof, vibrating willingly to an audacious and minimal orchestration that highlights percussion, whilst a forest of luxurious chords wreathe through savage guitars assaults and an electronic sounding backdrop. Intoxicated by these subtle melodies, these feline rhythms and flagrant poetry, all that is left for us to do is to succumb to losing ourselves definitively in the heart of this savage, fantasy land which gives its most wonderful patents to this spicy and bewitching branch we call exotica.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Funkadelic's first release and we are proud to celebrate that landmark with the very first Funkadelic Best Of compilation to cover both their Westbound and Warner Brothers years. Over a period of 12 years from their Westbound debut album to the release of 1981's The Electric Spanking Of War Babies, Funkadelic, piloted by George Clinton, redefined the way that black music was recorded and presented. They scored 20 R&B chart hit singles and a dozen chart albums, but their influence was far greater. They brought rock music into the black music charts and demanded to be treated like a rock band and in the years following their demise they have become treated as musical greats, by the sampling hip hop hordes and by the rock music establishment. Standing On The Verge includes the two number one R&B singles One Nation Under A Groove and (Not Just) Knee Deep, sample favourites such as I'll Bet You and Undisco Kidd and dancefloor monsters such as Cosmic Slop and Better By The Pound. We have also taken the time to shine a light on more contemplative masterpieces such as Sexy Ways, the wonderful instrumental A Joyful Process, and the incredible ten minute-plus epic Maggot Brain. Their early 1969 single Whatever Makes My Baby Feels Good is included - the first time it has ever been reissued.
