Shortly after releasing the 6-track mini album Albion Moonlight the Use Of Ashes started writing and recordings songs for a new full length album. A first version of the album, back then simply entitled Ice, ended up on our decks in the spring of 2000. A superb mellotron drenched beat driven version of the title track was something hit us right in the face immediately. However, the Use Of Ashes felt the version didn't go well with the other tracks on the album. when the album was finally released in 2004, a completely different and much lighter version of the song opened the album, retitled Ice 67. Less than twelve months later, the Use Of Ashes returned with a vinyl only offering on Tonefloat/c, the beautiful and enigmatic the mousehill daydream which received rave reviews from everyone. In january 2006 we asked Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-man, Bass Communion) to rework the takes from the album, and he replied with a beautiful ten minute Bass Communion reconstruction entitled Mousehill. The Bass Communion recontruction is also scheduled to appear on a CD compilation of Bass Communion recordings at a later date. With the band finalising works on White Nights Volume one, out on Tonefloat this spring, we thought it'd be a good idea to release a 10inch that brings together the original demo version of Ice and the Bass Communion reconstruction Mousehill. The Band was forbidden by the East German cultural and educational policy in 1975 because the Band members Eberhard Klunker and Olaf Wegener escaped to West Germany across the Baltic Sea. As usual the band has not been mentioned in the media anymore and all existing recordings were destroyed. Therefore it is even more astonishing that these now available recordings have survived. The reason is a labeling mistake in the audiotape archive. When we first heard the music we were surprised by the musical and technical quality of the recordings. The music sounds so fresh it could actually have been played yesterday. Psych-Funk 101 - A Global Psychedelic Funk Curriculum introduces students to the global phenomenon of psychedelic funk music, and covers the "golden years" of the movement, from approximately 1967 until 1980. This compilation does not focus on American and British bands. Rather it focuses on the bands throughout the Global Village that were influenced by the innovation of American and British bands - that many times one upped the heroes they sought to emulate. This compilation focuses on bands influenced by James Brown, The Meters, Sly and The Family Stone, Booker T and The MGs and The Bar Kays and unsung rhythmic forces such as drummers Bernard Purdie, Idris Muhammad, Earl Palmer, bassists such Carol Kaye and Jimmy Lewis. It focuses on bands who took that energy and combined it with the flair of psychedelic-rock musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Cream - as well as pop-rock acts taken by the experimental side of psychedelia such as The Beatles. But these bands added their own, unique cultural flourishes. The result is mind-bending. Think about it for a second - what musical forces were greater than that of funk and psychedelic music in the late 60s and early 70s? These forces, combined by bands happy to incorporate folk music and improvisational elements from other musical forms, lead to an amazing body of work still being unearthed by researchers the world over - and still capable of inspiring new investigations into shapes of rhythm. The Hansi Biebl Band is a phenomenon of the East German rock music history formed by Johannes Biebl in 1974 as the Johannes Biebl Blues Band. Until they finally split up in 1975, they performed about 120 concerts of which unfortunately no live recordings exist. For the East German Broadcasting however five tracks were recorded in the Nalepa-Studios in 1975. These recordings were never broadcasted because second lead guitarist Eberhard Klunker and drummer Olaf Wegener escaped to West Germany at the end of the year which also meant the end of the Hansi Biebl Band. For a long time the tapes have been considered to be destroyed or lost. However by some miracle Eberhard Klunker found them with the help of former studio staff. The reason is a labelling mistake in the audio tape archive. So this release can be regarded as a late premiere - and as a lucky chance for enthusiasts of high level guitar rock. Asstonishing about these recordings is the technical quality. Especially since all tracks were recorded live with the whole band playing, renouncing single-instrument overdubs. This CD-release is the first of a WIS - Dragonwyck trilogy. The group from Cleveland (OH) was one of the most promising bands in that area, opened shows for bands as Foghat, Golden Earring, Edgar Winter Group etc. The mood of the music is dark, mystic and strong influenced of the times spirit, the hippie age.."anything goes"! - Shortly after highschool in 1970, the 5 guys recorded 7 tracks, released a test pressing on Pama Records in an edition of only 85 copies. It was reissued in the 1990s by Rockadelic Records as limited edition on LP and CD, since then this band is a milestone for all heavy/psychedelic music collectors. Jim Morrison and The Doors brought main inspiration to Dragonwycks music, with the small difference; the songs are heavier and more progressive; the sound is not just dominated by great vocals, there are lots of freaked out heavy guitar solos and swirling Hammond B3 organ, which brings the individual note to the music. The core of musicians started as Sunrise in 1968 and released one 45 record. This CD is from the mastertape which seemed to be lost, contains 5 bonus tracks (3 unreleased), a bio, cool original artwork and photos. This time as normal jewel case. Embryo and the Burg Herzberg Festival is a long story. 40 years ago, when the first one happened in the old castle, Embryo was there. After that performance they even got robbed, a blue painted violin and a good amp were gone for ever. In all the years following the festival got bigger and changed to a different place to find room for the growing audience and stages. Embryo played there many times in different line-ups. This performance was a sort of chill out act for the whole festival. The nucleus of this band (Jens, Lothar, Mik. Marja, Christian) had grown through all the many years on tour to a steady line-up, supported by five other friends: On trumpet Werner, who was introduced by Mik, one of the few good oboe-players around. On guitar Valentin Altenberger. His father is a modern jazz drummer and his mother, a jazzsinger who grew up in the family of Bobbie Jones, known for his work with Charles Mingus, so he grew up in a musical surrounding and knows Marja since his childhood. On oud and guitar Andy Rust who knows much about Indian culture and is with Embryo since some years. The third electric guitar is played by Bjorn Eric Munz from Ensemble ORIENT-EXPRESS, also good friends of Embryo. On Percussion Norbert Keck who had been playing with the band almost on all the Herzberg gigs in the last years. This CD presents a rawer electric set by Embryo - (cause the wet and cold wind at the Festival weekend made it too hard to tune the acoustic instruments! This reissue by Headstone, a hard rock quartet from Indiana was their only album release. They were discovered by a local producer from Ohio, who owned the label "Starr-Records" and went there to record "Still looking" (further they released 3 three non-lp 45 records, which are 6 bonustracks on this CD & 3 on LP). In the psychedelic underground collectors scene the album got established as a classic psych-hard-rock rarity. Their sound is strong and melodic with awesome guitar/organ leads, solid bass and catchy vocals. Their natural float creates a hypnotic atmosphere and makes you listen to this album again and again. at all their musical spirit is closer to the end 60s blend, than the recording year 1974 reflects, and sometimes they remind of the early Bloodrock stuff. Acid Archives (Patrick Lama): "The opening seven minute title track is a killer journey through local underground guitar psych, and there's plenty more good stuff aboard including some more lyrical moves. Underrated LP, solid all through, better than many $1000 LPs." The Cd will come with a bands bio and is remastered to a fresh dynamic sound. The experimental guitar-driven musician collective, iH8 Camera (="i hate camera") from Antwerp, Belgium was formed by 2004, around the nucleus of the "Love Substitutes". iH8 Camera performs rarely but frequently live and in changing line-ups and Trip In Time discovered them for the Burg Herzberg Festival 2006 (Europes biggest Hippie Fest). The Sextett arrived at the Freakstage just in time for their set - ready to plug in and perform this mindblowing 50 min improvisational Freak-Out-Show..their odyssey seemed long and must have been impressive to the band; finally they got inspired to name their 7 songs after cities from the area which have been passed on this trip, lyrics reflect the "true" stories about life on road! For sure youll recognize influences of Pink Floyds early period (69-71), 13th Floor Elevators - but also more modern ones, such as "Radiohead" or "Deus" (Ward & Trouv are former Deus members). We assume that not many festival visitors will remember this show.but finally this awesome performance will be available, mixed by the band and mastered to excellent sound-quality. These catchy and floating psychedelic sounds will leave no one untouched! The iLLiad is a young quintet from Ohio. A creatively produced demo put World In Sounds attention to the band leader Kyle Pittman, an introverted and deeply emotional singer and guitarist. "A Sad Day on Pluto" was recorded in Cleveland, Ohio (2007) and contains 13 original tunes reflecting a tasty spectrum between early Pink Floyd jamming, 60s garage/flower-power and loner Folk style, and feature very catchy lyrics combined with interesting "psychedelicate" melodies. Pittmans music captures a unique style of composing fresh music with the influences of Syd Barretts Pink Floyd, West Coast Pop Art Exp. Band, Velvet Underground, Marc Bolan and David Bowie. The mixing, mostly done by Pittman himself is truly a "trip in time" - a total stereo-experimental" 60s style like Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn! The song "Are you a Librarian" can be heard on Trip In Time Vol.2 (Psychedelic Rock Reflections). With expressive vocals, screeching guitar hooks and sunny Farfisa sounds in these electric tunes and classic ballads, the iLLiad create the beginning of a fantastic voyage into a concrete vision of dreamy songs. The CD comes with a 16 p. booklet and is well produced (intense sound)! This album is highly individual and part of the new generation of 60s influenced bands. This quartet was founded in 2005, in Heidelberg (Germany) and plays with a great level of proficiency and on authentic equipment to get their analog 70s Sound. Mostly instrumental jams, the Karmic Society reflects the traditional krautrock jam-spirit of Kraan, Message, Epitaph, combined with US-Westcoast influences, but also progressive-fusion-rock elements like Mahavishnu "McLaughlin", Chick Corea or Keith Emerson. Besides a unique rhythm section, you can look forward to beautiful melodies and variative compositions fitting perfectly to a festival sunny afternoon. A massive, swirling Hammond Organ by Winnie Rimbach-Sator (also plays keys with Treacle People) is in communication with excessive Stratocaster guitar solos melting into unexpected orgies of sounds. This album contains 4 originals and 4 improvised covers tunes which are Dark Star (Grateful Dead), Witches Moon (Quicksilver Messenger Service), a heavy Spacepatrol Orion version (authorized by Peter Thomas - Sci-Fi Sound from the mid-60s) and Yoo Doo Right (Can) as a 17 min. version with stunning moog space parts and tribal voodoo percussions. The production sounds natural and grew from a free concept to a strong compact album of 65 mins intense music. (btw: 3/4 of the band support the US-group Dragonwyck at live shows). This group from the Detroit area is probably the weirdest experimental psych outfits from 1970. Originally the band was hired by "Zig Zag Records" to record cover tunes and easy listening, with the intention, "Were just doing whatever we want," the result was an overdosed rock concept album. "to give the music back to the people". Original copies are rare and pretty unknown among psych collectors until now! The 7 songs with an average length of 7 mins combine different styles of music, from heavy garage rock to bluesy westcoast, drifting into various tripped-out, funk, jazz, fusion elements with humorous/social comments. Structure, feeling and complexity can be compared to experimental Krautrock, while the groups basic sound is represented better by end-60s US Hippie Rock as Country Joe & the Fish or The Head Shop (WIS-1024) with its excessive fuzz guitar work, Farfisa organ, amazing vocals by Clevelands "Bocky" and several additional instruments, sax, harpsichord, cello, percussion, bells.. Studio work is pretty tricky, lots of unexpected mixing and experiments, with flashes of UKs legendary "White Noise". - This CD issue contains a 12 p. colour booklet with a bands bio, and the cool original album design, made by John Williams who also worked for Zappa - so it can be assumed which influences Zappa used for his 1972, "Grand Wazoo" album?!? It is hard to imagine Bryn Jones' idea behind a low threshold in releasing albums. However, Uzi, among other early Muslimgauze releases, isn't an album offering fine four-minute electronica tracks -- it is purely a theme album. The three-minute pieces are simply variations of each other, based on a rhythm track and occasional background sounds. These pieces aren't much when listening to them individually, but as a whole Uzi can be very stimulating. It basically follows the rules of classical minimalism: a continuous, pulsing rhythm track in the foreground and a slowly variating theme in the background. That is very typical of late-'80s Muslimgauze records, but on Uzi the effect of on the listener can be very strong. That's why Uzi may not, however, give anything to a typical listener of avantgarde electronica, but to any fan of Muslimgauze it is a must-have. 		EXPERIMENTAL
