Their style combined early American and English punk like The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and The Vibrators with rock influences such as The Rolling Stones guitar attack and The Allman Brothers dual-guitar and slide-guitar leads, which, combined with provocative lyrics and an untouchable stage show, made The Action a musicians band. The band creates compositions from its improvisations centered around strong elemental percussion, radical theatrical vocals and classical acoustic instruments. Recurring themes of the band's text are the pain of relationships, the affirmation of the feminine in myth, the hero's journey and continuous need to flame the passions of the heart. "A La Lu La" specifically addresses the gap of language in facilitating accurate communication, a gap that only music at its most primal can fill. The back of the album features text by Jose da Fonseca & Pedro Carolino, two Portugese who in 1855 created an English phrasebook titled English As She is Spoke, but who faced just one problem: they didn't know any English. After numerous releases with the artist Jonathan Meese, No time left" is finally the first solo album by the artist and musician Tim Berresheim (Cologne). Besides last year's 7" on Meeuw Muzak it is also the first release that doesn't appear on his own New Amerika imprint, but on Eventuell. "No time left" is an impressive proof of Berresheim's musical skills, both as multi-instrumentalist, programmer and composer. The four tracks on this lp are carefully constructed mixtures of wonderful guitar- and basslines, atmospheric synth-layers, dubby electronic music and unorthodox samples. Although very eclectical in its wide range of sounds and elements, the recordings are characterized by a coherent mood. If you can imagine a hybrid of Nurse with wound, early Residents and Tom Recchion, you're probably quite near to what can be heard on this great record. The four instrumentals correspond with four large, modified black-and-white photographs by Tim Berresheim which are fully reproduced on four sides of the stunning extra-large gatefold-cover in the form of a triptych. Oliver Augst, Ruediger Carl, and Christoph Korn have sifted through their own recordings and releases from recent years, and have broken them down into microscopically small parts, creating countless strange and colourful fragments. These fragments are then recorded on vinyl in the form of 240 locked grooves. The original Blue Horizon issue LP was for some peculiar reason issued as mono although the master tapes are stereo. This is it's first issue on stereo vinyl. Born in the small towns of southeast Nebraska, the boys of BRIMSTONE HOWL worked on the farms and now make their music in Lincoln, a city-town neither urban enough for dandies or country enough for rodeo motorcyclists. Cranking out several 45s in one year, including one engineered by Jay Reatard, they've toured and played with bands such as the Black Lips, Radio Moscow, Boston Chinks, Gris Gris, and the Black Keys. Delivering in-your-face live performances, they describe themselves as "Guitar sluts and hook thieves with hearts of chrome, but with pretty good lyrics," and their music as "like burnt, steady tom beats, the blues, and looooooowwwwwd fuzz." Mij, a.k.a. Jim Holmberg was discovered by ESP owners while playing in Washington Square Park in the summer of 1968. His style and persona mesmerized the label heads, and he explained to them a recent auto accident had fractured his skull but left him changed. He perceived sound, color and vision differently and he had funneled this new world of perception directly into his music. All this was enough to warrant getting Mij into the studio to lay down a record of his rambly, cosmic folk songs. The entire album was recorded in three hours, first-takes and impromptu production intact, then pressed up and introduced to the world shortly thereafter. To focus on the yodeling aspect of the Yodeling Astrologer would miss some of the depth of this album. Not just a hippie novelty act of the time, this is a truly thoughtful and somewhat frenzied document. Like Buffy St. Marie's "Meditations", Linda Perhacs' "Parallelograms" or "Cold Fact" by Rodriguez, this is an album of sincere folk songs colored with subtle psychedelic touches. Uneasy reverberations and soft echoes glide over Holmbergs breezy songs, creating a consistent sonic environment as spontaneous as it is intriguing. At that time the STUD members had said "farewell" to their English record label Decca and spent most of their time on the Continent, mainly in Germany where they were rather successful. With John Weider on violin and guitar they had just an album (September) out on BASF and played a lot of Club gigs and festivals. During their 1972 tour they were invited by radio station SWF to play a recording session at radio stations main studio U1 in Baden-Baden. There were two sessions that took place in April and Mai 1972. STUD recorded titles from their first and second album but varied the material to give the recordings a special claim. From hard rocking "Good Things", to fourteen minutes epic title "Horizon" and shining ballad "Make Me High" these recordings are an impressive prove of the bands musical bandwidth and the bandmembers excellent technical skills.
