It features -on one side- the UK debut of James Toth aka Wooden Wand, with an exclusive track "Breather", an outtake from last years extraordinary "Second Attention" LP on Kill Rock Stars in the US, and prior to release of his eagerly anticipated new full length "James and the Quiet" next month - his debut since signing to Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label. Well known in the States as a leading light in the new "psych folk" arena, especially for his work with the Vanishing Voice, "Breather" showcases perfectly why many people stateside are hailing Wooden Wand as the finest new singer songwriter around. A killer tune that makes you wonder just how WW could have escaped UK labels' ears over the last coupla years, and acts as a taster to both the new LP proper and a "first time on vinyl" 10" appearing also on the Great Pop Supplement this summer. The reverse sees the second split 45 appearance this year on the GPS by Keith Wood's Hush Arbors project. The first being a pairing off with the equally mighty Voice of the Seven Woods. Previously known predominantly for his incredible guitar work with Six Organs of Admittance, Sunburned Hand of the Man and more recently Current 93. However its his solo work here as Hush Arbors that is grabbing most attention of late, a clutch of fabulous live shows, "sold out in an instant" home pressed CDRs, and appearances on various compilations, 45s and so on that is raising his profile in the UK. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground-scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought after pieces of vinyl from the era. Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B / beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. T-Boones are probably best known for their "At the club/King of the Orient" single which is one of the best, and most collectable, out of the Swedish garage beat-era. This unique collection brings live-recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Dungen's fourth studio album extends the acclaimed Swedish outfit's sound past psychedelia into something far more rare. Moving beyond mere stylistic concerns, 4 finds Gustav Ejstes' focus on the extremes of Dungen's sound separating into two entities. Blazing, raw guitar workouts have their own time and place, but now, so do stirringly orchestrated, jazz-cooled compositions with cinematic undertones. Bandleader Gustav Ejstes has made many allusions to his creative process as it likens to that of a hip-hop producer. On 4, that process is more evident than ever, both in the feel of each piece, and in the sense of intuition and control within the members of the group. New drummer Johan Holmegard joins guitarist Reine Fiske and bassist Mattias Gustavsson, while Ejstes steps away from guitar for the entire album, focusing on the piano as his lead instrument. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmosphere changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville, "Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone" went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately for us, it didnt disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, "Mosaics" has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. And beyond these obvious qualities, the album has something subtle and unique, a magnetic power that keeps drawing the listener back. One of Jade Stone & Luv's earliest advocates was the legendary New York City musicologist Paul Major. Heres a typical Major impression of the music on "Mosaics": "Groovy love vibes thru a prism of jade statues in swinging singles apartment complex action... Cadillac with fuzzy dice, feather boa, lotsa cigarette burns, stale perfumed ashen air. This album in the 8-track player at 5 AM with someone you don't even know passed out in the backseat, as you head to the diner to meet up with an early-bird Lava Lite salesman who deals pills on the side. Bubbly champagne molecules become the plastic vinyl booths in dim-lit dive bars; it's crackerbox post-war suburban low-rent psychedelic." The albums cinematic qualities were also highlighted in a review in the recent Acid Archives book, which deals with vintage underground music: ".The music is notoriously hard to describe, but projects scenes of all-night cruising through Edge City... a hip which is not metropolitan hip, but dreams of stardom and glamour from the American underbelly, two renegade souls zooming down the highway between Austin and Nashville..." After 30 years, this rare experience is finally available for general consumption. Done in collaboration with Jade Stone himself, this reissue of "Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone" features the complete original album, adds a rare 45, and comes with extensive liner notes. Long in the works reissue of this amazing and little know gem, "Beautiful People", from 1972. Born in Miami, Florida to an American father and Venezuelan mother, Bill split the USA to Madrid, Spain in the early 70s. Once there he quickly landed a recording deal with famous producer Alain Milhaud of the Explosion label, and set to work on this, his sole LP release. Sessions went down with an impressive cast of up to eleven players in the studio, including Salvador Dominguez & Chema Pellic (Cerebrum), Jess Lam (Jess & James), and Frank Rojas (Sangre). One of the albums real hidden treasures, though, was the assistance of unknown Texan Mark Gottschall, who co-wrote the title track and adds perfect vocal harmonies as well a second acoustic guitar. A finely balanced mix of sounds that drifts between throbbing electric full band groove and gentle acidfolk. When Bill wants to rock, things get downright funky, with a wickedly hard-hitting rhythm section, pumping organ, scorching electric leads, and flipped out acoustic guitars all locking into some seriously tight jams. Then the next minute the mood swings and youre deep into some beautifully fragile and introspective folk meditations; often just two acoustic guitars, Bill's lyrics, and huge, angelic, vocal harmonies all weaving together into lush tapestries of sound. A few tracks fill out a more folkrock vibe with flute, autoharp, piano, slide guitar, banjo, and more. Bill's lyrics (all in English) and vocals always feel deeply sincere, which combined with his unique voice, unusual accent, and loose delivery make for one hell of a cool singer. The whole album has an air of mystical psychedelia, yet never strays far from pop craft, and there's a real sun-blasted quality to it all that just makes you want to crank the volume... Nothing amateur or lo-fi about this one, its a pro recordings and these guys have serious chops. It's hard to image why it didnt become a hit at the time. The album was released only in Spain and Brazil, to very little interest, and quickly became yet another great album lost to obscurity... at least until now... Packaged in a heavy weight gloss coated exact reproduction of the original cover, including the the original double sided insert, as well as a huge new full color foldout insert which reproduces at nearly full size the totally different Brazilian version of the album art. Plus extensive notes by album musicians Salvador Dominguez & Mark Gottschall, and Alex Carretero (Guerssen Records, Spain). Also a small photo of some rare picture sleeves 45s, promotional inserts, lyric sheets, etc. even the LP labels reproduce the original psychedelic full color explosion label art. Incredibly enough, but very naturally, after 11-years silence heres a new album by this mysterious and legendary Swedish psychedelic multi-instrumentalist. S.T. Mikael spearheaded the DIY psychedelic rock/folk movement of the late 1980s-mid-90s, with a collection of albums that now fetches up and over $1000 on Ebay. During his long absence S.T Mikael grew more secretive and reclusive, but all the while he was still writing music. Now that hes finally back heres at last a chance for the world to join in to his psychedelic world again. The music, stretching out in many different musical directions, has been done freely and spontaneously in an extremely relaxed and happy environment, where Mikael joined forces with Dungens Reine Fiske and Fredrik Bjorling , whos musical expertise now also grace the grooves. These otherworldly acid tripper recordings now exists in the real world and ST Mikael, proves, once again, to be a gifted songwriter and an unconventional performer with a very personal ear for acoustics and an emotional honesty seldom seen these days. Folk rocky melodic elements flow with waves of heavy fuzzphase leads, weird detached haunted vocal echoes over the band and the whole thing seems to teeter on the brink of psychedelic oblivion. Not revival either but purely of the now. You do get the feeing that Mikael actually lives the lifestyle rather than just emulating it. His soaring vocals, surreal lyrics, fragile, folky melodies, heavy fuzz riffs, mind bending soul funk and penchant for the spiritual and mystical make this altogether a fascinating voyage that is so mind twisting, soul swirling, upper psychedelic that your third eye takes you on a joyride thru an altered state! This album makes your brain start thinking in those pebble splash pond mind circular expanding waveforms that people on this vibe await the returning ship their roots sent out to bring back the password to tomorrow. Here's something a bit different...A collaborative release with the band's own Indian Queen label. Pretty hard to pin this one down, but its a trip for sure. A rather mysterious one man band solo outing from Texas, who builds up layer upon layer of violin, viola, acoustic guitar, slippery electric slide, percussion, electronics, accordion, buried vocals, and found sounds into haunted, rollicking, thick sonic blankets of sound. Many simple parts entwined, looped, and orchestrated into an undulating whole, like naive bedroom folkrock filtered through some blissed out minimalist phase experiment. Ecstatic, post-psychedelic chamber rock maybe? Really doesn't sound like much else out there, but its instantly enjoyable, energized, and grooves freely in its own uplifting way. Having it's roots in the late 60's rock & soul outfit Soul Caravan they eventually renamed themsleves Xhol Caravan and released the crucial Electrip album on Hansa, one of the first efforts in bridging psychedelic, jazz and psychedelic styles in a really original way. Shortening their name to Xhol, they signed to the hip Ohr label where they released the live album Hau-Rauk and the mysterous archival Motherfuckers GmbH & Co Kg. Conceived as a varied collage of archive pieces, sound snippets and free extended jams, the album hints at the madness of Faust but reatining that freaky Xhol attitude. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground-scene in 1967. Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B / beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. Dionysos was led by Paul-Andr Thibert and put out three albums in the 1970s. The first two were released circa 1970 and are more psych, Le Grand Jeu and Le Prince Croule. The third came out around 1976 and is closer to mainstream rock with some progressive touches. There is a final solo album by Thibert called Musique de mes amis Dionysos which is more symphonic. Without rights to parts of the back catalog, the band put out this compilation in 1994, which is entirely re-recorded. The old stuff like the 12-minute "Narcotique" sounds excellent, and the band has not lost their edge from 25 years earlier. Together, they have honed a classic and seamless sound, constructed with lavish studio flourishes and moving, narrative arrangements, and yet able to toughen up to tear veins of fierce blues-psych instrumentals up from the surface. The ten tracks on 4 comprise Dungen's most concentrated effort to date, beats surging forth and atmosphere changing as their sound continues to evolve. Every song here runs under five minutes, pushing the group to introduce confident melodies and arresting ambiance in tighter frameworks. Gauging from the results, this challenge has done them well. A welcome Rereleased reissue!!! The band MU was formed in 1969 when Merrell Fankhauser teamed up with Jeff Cotton of Captain Beefhearts band. When it was discovered that the Hawaiian Islands could have remnants of the sunken Mu civilization, the band decided to move to the island of Maui. But by 1974 all but Merrell Fankhauser had left for the mainland. Merrell was now staying with his girlfriend violinist Mary Lee in the two story Tarzan style jungle house which Merrell had built, complete with flowing lily ponds. The stream cascaded around the house forming a natural pool and waterfall, an ideal setting for Merrell to compose his laid back cosmic music. Around this same time the Tibetan Lama Kar Mapa came to the island for a meditation retreat that was sponsored by one of Merrell and Marys neighbours in the jungle. They did a special Black Crow ceremony with 400 devoted hippies all meditating for peace and harmony for all beings on the earth. Merrell and Mary were the first musicians in the United States to play modern music for the Lama. They lived in the Maui rain forest in their jungle retreat for over seven years. Late in 1975 they visited L.A and recorded the Maui Album. The album recording originally started at MCA Studios in Hollywood with producer Dino Airelli who went on to head up Dark Horse Records for George Harrison. Due to Dinos busy schedule he was unable to finish the album. It was later finished in San Francisco and came out on a small independent label Maui Music. It sold a few thousand copies and disappeared. The album is released here in its entirety with 7 bonus tracks including an unreleased version of "Some Of Them Escaped". The sole album from male-female duo Jade Stone & Luv is a lost gem from the heart of the psychedelic 1970s. Composed and self-produced in Nashville, "Mosaics; Pieces Of Stone" went unnoticed by the music industry upon release. Fortunately for us, it didnt disappear forever, but simply went into retreat, biding its time. While almost unknown outside specialist circles, "Mosaics" has been an underground cult favorite for many years. The combination of top-level songwriting, skillful guitar/keyboard arrangements and soaring vocals is just too impressive to ignore. So I reason guess that its from before the vêch show but after the bonus material on that release. Mylla came into fruitation at the now legendary illicit club/speakesy BZ in a Stockholm cellar. Mylla is the ultimate psychedelic party-band for the loosely knitted family of musicians centered around the Subliminal Sounds label (like Dungen, The Works, Life on Earth! and St. Mikael and many other Swedish psychsters). Were happy to finally be releasing their debut album "Vanya". The album was recorded in a limestone cottage at a secluded island far out in the Baltic Sea known by sailors for centuries as the "White Hawaii". The island Faro has been closed for all foreigners up until a few years as it contains several top secret army bases. The music is steeped in the Swedish 70s "Progg" tradition. Like Dungen the band sings in Swedish but unlike Dungen the Mylla experience might only be for the natives, but at least its no longer forbidden for anyone to try it out. "Rock and Revolution with the MC5 and the White Panther Party". Guitar Army is the incendiary book that proclaimed "Rock and Roll is a Weapon of Cultural Revolution" for young, revved-up readers in 1972. Author John Sinclair spearheaded the leftist revolutionary vanguard White Panther Party and managed the Detroit rock band MC5, leading them from the ferment of the Detroit riots to the Chicago Democratic Convention of 1968, where the band played minutes before police clubbed antiwar demonstrators. In October of 1970, the FBI referred to the White Panthers as "potentially the largest and most dangerous of revolutionary organizations in the United States." However, just three years earlier, the groups leaders hosted a "Love-In" on Detroits Belle Isle, presided over by Sinclair, whom the Detroit News proclaimed "High Priest of the Detroit hippies." In 1970 he was arrested and sentenced to 9 to 10 years for giving an undercover officer two marijuana joints. Sinclair then became the most celebrated political prisoner of the original war on drugs. After 18 months in prison, John Lennon, Allen Ginsberg, Stevie Wonder, Phil Ochs, and others demanded his freedom with a televised benefit concert attended by 15,000 people. Three days later, Sinclair was released. Guitar Army chronicles these years of revolution through Sinclairs "street writings" and prison writings, with over 80 photographs, illustrations, concert flyers and comics from the period. So here it is again, dear listener: Live In The Netherlands. Recorded live on one Microphone on tour in Holland in May 1993, this musIcal gem is the stuff of which myths and legends abound. Billy Childish, having heard the Blue Fields Express, wanted his own broken down engine of a group and put out the word. And so they came, from near and afar. Kyra, practicing her Spanish and rattling the pots and pans. A man who didnt normally drum to play drums. A trumpet player nursing several stitches from having a glass thrust into his face the previous night in a dubious drinking den at the wrong end of town. Miss Ludella Black, dropping in to sing a few numbers during her lunch break from selling fruit and veg on the high street. Shamus, from south of the Thames - having never met the rest of the ensemble, getting lost in the streets of Medway, banging on the wrong door of the wrong house in the wrong town for 2 hours then whipping out his accordion and busking along regardless. And then of course Billy, stringing up his fathers 1910 banjo, picking in open G and singing in what he imagined were the tones of the lost looking for solace. "He Put The Bomp in The Bomp" is not a tribute album per se (a box set would probably be more appropriate and is still in the cards), but more of a remembrance of the man and his unique perspective. We asked the bands to go into the studio and cut the cover song they felt was most in tune with the idea of Bomp! and Greg Shaw. The result is a nice brew of garage punk, power pop and psychedelia that we think captures the spirit and sound of the BOMP label. The Plimsouls and Lyres covered the Easybeats and the Outsiders respectively, the Black Keys surprised us with their rendering of the Cramps "I Can't Find My Mind", while the Dwarves and the Briefs did their version of punk classics by the Weirdos and the Zeros. We also got some nice surprises with the teaming up of Captain Sensible (Damned) and the late Nikki Sudden for an acoustic cover of Iggy's "Kill City", Chris Wilson of the Flamin' Groovies joined the Barracudas to capture Rocky Erickson's "Two Headed Dog," and a Cleveland super group of sorts tabbed The Dukes Of Earls was formed with ex-members of the Dead Boys and the Stiv Bators' band. Also included is an amazing rendition of Rockin' Horse's classic "Don't You Ever Think I Cry" by Buffalo Killers, a cover of Spacemen 3 by The Warlocks, and much more. The Last even dug up for the occasion their previously unreleased rendering of Jonathan Richman's "Pablo Picasso" recorded back in 1977. This is the third release from the Swiss band Kruger. You may not be familiar with them or their music yet, but it won't be long before their talent is discovered by a wider audience. Redemption Through Looseness is not easily categorized. Kruger has some similarities to Mastodon, and also cite groups like Entombed and Neurosis as influences. The songs are intricate and complex, full of twists and turns. Kruger creates a soundscape that's experimental at times, but also has enough metal riffs and structure that it is still very accessible. This album has plenty of rawness and aggressiveness in both music and vocals, but also balances that with a dark, almost melancholy atmosphere and some melodic vocals. There are some albums that you like immediately, while others take a few listens to fully sink in. Pretty much 9 years it took to make this album, I can not say I know a lot of people that have the patience to work on one thing that long, maybe I am mistaking hyper neurotic action with patience here though...ANGST HASE PFEFFER NASE is the moniker of CHRIS COOPER, a multi-instrumentalist, cat and moustache toucher, neologist and member/guitarist or ex-member/guitarist of bands such as DEERHOOF, a duo with BILL NACE called BUDDIES (though Nace would love to see that name changed...), TURBWASN, FAT WORM OF ERROR, BARN OWL, CAROLINER etc etc etc...Probably this is one of the most intense and most "filled" records Ultra Eczema released so far, a percise collage of beautiful sound made with more instruments than a parrot could handle, such as plastic guitar, bass, clarinet, banjo, optigon/organ, egg slicer, ratchets, broken toys, fan motors, whirliegigs, glasses, tape loops etc. Poor rabbits quickly hide when they see the red head with the twitching eye play his tunes with more then 34 hands at the same time, this could be the soundtrack for some seriously fucked up road circus, dead rabbits crawl out of a lazy elephants hat while a sad tapeloop of a rotting harmonium plays your Uncle Vomit's fave cough sirup tap dance blur, oozing for some romantic noise crackles, the nostalgia of the banana fish days puts him down in his cough again wheeping like a black cat on an attic in New Jersey! This record continues the German couple's satyrical aproach to fluxus, dada, outisider art, whatever u wanna call it.. KOMMISSAR HJULER is a police officer from a small village in Germany "Flensburg", where he lives and works with his younger wife MAMA BäR and their kids. MAMA BäR is a full time painter. The KOMMISSAR only started making music when he was already in his thirties, heavily influenced by the strange music he had been collecting since the age of 16. Almost all of their music got released on their own SHMF inprint, mostly limited to less then 20 copies and always packed in handmade collages, paintings or even giant puppets or garbage melted together...they've done a bunch of collabs with greats like RUDOLF EB-ER and JAN IWERS. This LP includes three long tracks; a hysterical cover version of Suicide's Frankie Teardrop, a piece about the Bronx (with some guest vocals of their kid crying...) and a side long screaming argument between a granddad and a kid which sounds so painfully loud and "German" that every touring band will want to skip Germany in the near future. This record gives you a pretty good introduction of what they're all about. KOMMISSAR HJULER and MAMA BäR's way of working reminds me of people like BOBBY COLOMBO, SCOTT FOUST, RUDOLF EB-ER or even GIL J. WOLMAN. After countless self-released 3" CD-Rs, heres the first more widely distributed full-length LP by Holland's Rutger Zuydervelt presenting six tracks of post-industrial ambience. Zuydervelt works with live instruments, mostly piano and guitar, and intense computer processing to create gloomy instrumentals. Zuydervelt's tracks develop very slowly and he takes all the time in the world to push them to the level of density his music requires. The album starts with the snaps and crackles of "Kreukeltape", its treated piano giving the track a distinct deteriorating charme. "Somerset" features Zuydervelt on guitar and has a very physical presence to it, mostly through the noisy digital hiss in the background. In "J'espère Zuydervelt delicately layers feedback and white noise on top of a repeating piano theme. The magnum opus of "Marijn" is the 18 minute album ender "Lawine" though. Zuydervelt starts looping piano, but soon departs from there and plays a menacing melody followed by a transistory section that leads to the grand finale: A five minute noise orgy that sounds like plugging headphones into the turbine of an Airbus. This is quite a surprise when compared to the overall quiet nature of the remainder of the LP, but it sums up a very dense and satisfying album. 		EXPERIMENTAL

Hero Wouters is a Dutch artist who has been active since 1950. Through the years he has been involved in many (music) projects. His work in the field of electronic music ranges from synthpop to experimental music. Some people might know him from his collaborations with The Legendary Pink Dots and Edward Ka-Spel. Other people might know him from his contributions to the obscure Contactdisk vinyl series or his appearance on the legendary Dutch Ding-Dong tape label. Featured on this LP is work him Hero Wouters from 1982, 1984, and 1986. Most of the material was written for a Dutch film ('Een zaak van Leven en Dood') and a theatre play ('Laios'). The music has been (partly) released on cassette on Hero's own label Herophone. Now it is for the first time available on vinyl. The music has been restored from the original tapes and mastered for vinyl with great care not to loose the original feeling. Enfant Terrible is proud to present this beautiful and simply fantastic music by a Dutch artist that deserves more attention. The wonderful cover artwork is a drawing by Maaike. Pop01 is a piece of conceptual art entitled The Perils Of Paradise and articulates visions on a dreamed Utopian society and criticizes the contemporary Western, so called open democratic, society (which is a make belief paradise). The Perils Of Paradise is about the construction and destruction of social reality. Thus it is about the structures that are created around us and most people call reality, and the will of a few to destroy them and see the light behind these structures. The inspiration for this comes from a poem of which the origin is unknown to us. Here is one stanza from the poem: "I destroy to create, For the new is the old, I speak in a babble of tongues, In this game of confusion, One paradise less or more, Only to know after it is torn down". The music on this record is based on a minimal noise sculpture by Dutch industrial project <vektor>. Next to that it features revisions of the original sound structure by this artist from The Low Countries. These revisions are created by German minimal electronics act Echo West, French nihiltronix producers ICK and, last but not least the ritual industrial musicians from Terroritmo. Michel Banabila is a composer, producer and musician best known for his album 'VoizNoiz', which received critical acclaim internationally. In addition to acoustic instrumentation Banabila uses electronics, field recordings, recordings taken from radio, television and film and recordings made with vocoder plugs. His music is often described as cinematic and atmospheric. Banabila also makes musical contributions to film, television, theatre, video art and dance. The albums 'VoizNoiz', 'VoizNoiz 2' and 'Spherics' were released internationally on Tone Casualties (Los Angeles) and Pork Recordings (Hull/London). CD 1 contains highlights from Banabila's albums released on Steamin'Soundworks since 1999. They were selected from the albums 'VoizNoiz' (1999), the subsequent VoizNoiz 2 and 3 (2001 and 2002) and the two-part 'Spherics' series (2001 and 2003). In addition, a track each was chosen from the albums 'Arhil' (2000) by Bahia El Idrissi and the compilation album 'X-Rated: The Electronic Files' (2002). All tracks were freshly mastered and some were remixed. CD 2 contains new material recorded by Banabila in 2008.
