Garcia, Jerry/bob Weir/duane Allman

Live 1970 - The Boston Broadcast

The Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead, two of the greatest jam bands in history, have often crossed paths. But to hear Duane Allman and Jerry Garcia cross their magical six-string (strictly acoustic on this occasion), with Bob Weir's rhythmic backing, is much more: on 21 November 1970, the two bands were both playing in Boston, and after their respective concerts, the magnificent three met late at night in the studios of local radio station WBCN to improvise: the result is this set of seven tracks interspersed with chats in which the musicians' common roots emerge, between the country & western of 'El Paso' (Marty Robbins) and Johny Cash ('Big River'), the traditional ('I Know You Rider') and British folk (Davey Graham's 'Angie'). A true historical document, despite the relaxed and informal atmosphere of the session. SIDE 1: 1. El Paso 2. Studio Chat 3. Big River 4. I Know You Rider 5. Interview SIDE 2: 1. Ragtime Workout 2. Interview 2 3. Dark Hollow 4. Studio Chat 2 5. Angie 6. Let Me In
